Question Pixel 7 Pro screen turns off when finger front cam recognizes finger even when is 3 cm away - Google Pixel 7

Hi there. My Pixel 7 Pro shows a strange behavior when my finger approaches the front camera. The screen gets dark even if it's 2 or 3 centimeters away. I'm on latestes beta.
This is very annoying because I can't use a ln app which has buttons on the upper end of the screen.
After a reboot it's fine but after some hours this bug shows up again.

Not seeing that happen to my Pixel 7 (non-pro)
does it occur in safe mode?

hello. I also had this problem a few times quite rarely with the Pixel 7. Once the phone restarted, no more worries. Could it be an application that produces this kind of bug?

It's the proximity sensor. Normally, this behavior should only happen when in a call. Maybe an app is glitching your phone?

I second this. The sensor is under display directly below the camera. Something is triggering it when it shouldn't.

I cannot reproduce this on my Pixel 7 Pro on QPR1 Beta 3.

Screen Swipe Problems

Hi,
Since getting the Oreo 8.1 Beta I have issues when swiping on the screen (issue remained with final 8.1).
As an example, when receiving a call, I swipe up, but the green button jumps back down and I have to swipe up 2-3 times until Ican take the call.
Same if I swipe to the right to clear certain status messages. I swipe right, but instead of beeing cleared, the message jumps back and I have to do it several times.
Does anyone have a simila issue?
As stated, this issue was not there with 8.0.

I'm also having trouble with "swipe up" to answer calls. Can't remember if I hade the problem before 8.1 beta/final. Sideways works pretty good for me.
Yeah, I have the same problems with answering and dismissing notifications.
Me too, same problems

I usually have the problem when the phone screen is wet with my sweat after a workout and talking on the phone. Usually fixes it self when i wipe it dry.

Yes, this problem is normal on all phones. But it happens on my Nokia 8 even when it's completely dry. I think it's a software problem.

Do you have a screen guard on? Lot of people seem to have problems with the touch screen on the Nokia 8 with some screen guards

It's definitely the software. I don't have any screen guard on my display and as stated, it was working well in 8.0.
What phone are you in what model
I don't have this problem.... But on charging screen becomes laggy Turing screen off n on set things rights
Hi, i have problem in my NOKIA 8 with swipe to unlock. When im trying to unlock phone after black screen - screen goes down and I must to swipe ~3x times until I can unlock. When im doing this slowly is better. I think NOKIA/HMD must repair this. The same problem exist with swiping phone calls.
Yeah it's software prob definitely, and it is present after last update to oreo 8.1

Burn in? No, but it's weird.

Since I have only had my Mi 9 for less than a month, it should be impossible that it already has a Burn In...
However on the part of the screen where the fingerprint sensor sits, I noticed a grey-ish circle, which is exactly the size of the fingerprint. Since Burn In after 2 weeks should be impossible I turned the phone off and restarted it after a Minute and the spot was gone.
Now 2 hours later it is there again.
I don't even use the fingerprint sensor very often, only if I can't use face unlock...
Did anyone experience a similar problem?
(Btw, it's not software, I took a screenshot and it wasn't there)

Well, that's interesting... Do follow this up to let us know what's up.
Before I got my Mi 9 yesterday, I clocked a full 4 years on my Note 4, and never experienced burn in... In fact, I would argue that the display looks the same today, as it looked the day I bought it. (no noticeable brightness drop)
i have experienced this on every "in display fingerprint" phone i've owned, and all it it is the optical sensor slightly visible with the screen off .

Hey Man sorry for telling you so but this gray spot is the actual hole that your phone needs for the indisplay fingerprint scanner to work. You cannot notice it in all conditions. To test it go out in the sun max out the brightness and use a completely white photo.
P.s. there is another hole near your notch which is your proximity sensor

Automatically lower brightness

I have k 20 pro Indian variant, full stock, no root ,etc, i have a problem, my screen brightness automatically lowers whenever i exit the game mode and sometimes randomly too ,i have disabled auto brightness option as well as DC dimming option;
I also noticed that the screen is on warmer side, i have nokia 7 plus and i opened white wall paper on both the devices, and k20 pro shows warmer image, and nokia 7 plus is showing a proper white image, i have tried all 2 colour modes in display settings, but its still showing warmer image.
I tried hard reset also.
Can anyone tell is these things are hardware fault or its just software problem with everybody device.
K20 pro, MIUI global 10.3.3.0 stable
I assume it should be a hardware related issue.
As far as I am concerned, brightness change could be related to software. For me it happens since I installed Xiaomi EU beta. Of course this shouldn't even happen in your situation but who knows.
Warmer images, as Anand_theGeek says, this should be related to hardware problem.
Same happens to me. This is a F******g sh****t
It is a problem with EU beta
I also noticed that front camera is making face red while clicking selfie, if i cover my face then camera is showing actual colours, but when it recognizes face in the frame it automatically turns the face red, i also disabled all beauty footers but seems there is something wrong with camera software, because gcam port is not showing red face in front camera, can anybody confirm if they are also facing this issue.

Same here, after 2 days I suddenly noticed the display has a rather warmer white tint.
Compared it with my Poco, and there is a substantial difference between the two phones, whereas the MI 9T PRO, almost has a yellowish white.
I did noticed that, when rebooting, the display is "normal" for a second, and then turns to yellowish.
Still on stock rom, bootloader locked.
Edit: it is gone, suddenly the whites on my screen returned to normal. I was already thinking it had something to do with the automatic brightness combined with the Night Mode settings.
you guys using auto brightness mode ?

Same problem here. Sometimes even if I use cold colours in display settings, I get verey very yellowish whites. And sometimes not. Using increased cotrast is the same thing
I'm not using DC Dimming, auto brightness, reading/night mode. It is very strange..
Still no solution for this??

Proximity sensor is not enabled outside call

I've noticed that, unlike other phones I own (from Huawei, Meizu, Samsung), on Xiaomi phones the proximity sensor is not active outside calling screen, making the phone accidentally react to touches with face or ear when call is in progress.
As long as I leave calling screen, for example to take a note, search something on the web or to make simple calculations, things that are needed in the calling process, proximity sensor becomes disabled, meaning that if I put the phone back to my ear, the screen won't turn off like on other brands I own.
This happens on an older Xiaomi Redmi 4A, making me believe that it's a MIUI thing. I haven't got the chance to test this behavior on custom ROMs.
Is there a way to force the proximity sensor to be enabled all the time when a call is in progress, no matter what app is in foreground?

Of course but my issue has nothing to do with that setting. Even that setting is ON, proximity sensor gets disabled (or its effect gets lost) if the calling screen goes in the background - which doesn't happen on other brands.
Yeah, I know, it's a Xiaomi/MIUI thing but maybe there's a software workaround for this.

I don't have the issue you are having, I had a call this morning, had to grab some details off a text message, the little green call indicator went to the top right hand side of the screen, if I hover my hand over the top left hand side of the screen the screen turns off. I was in the house though I've not had the need to anything like that outside

I tested MIUI 12 Beta from xiaomi.eu for about a week but the issue was still present. Maybe is'a Beta thing or "feature" that had a different approach on Stable ROM.

Question Screen unresponsive to taps?

Hi guys!
A few months ago I tried Pixel 6 as a replacement for my ageing OnePlus 5 and in the end had to return it because it was sometimes missing screen taps. Now I have Pixel 7 and guess what? The same thing. It is the most prominent when I want to wake the phone up with a tap (Google changed from double-tap, gods know why) and it often fails. I've tried double-tap, tripple-tap, turning off/on various settings, restarting, updating... The same stuff. There seems to be a lot of talk about it on reddit. The same works flawlessly on my Pixel 5 (and also many other things which are failing on Pixel 7).
Going through discussions it seems this plagues Pixel phones for some time and it seems to be some hardware issue.
Have you encountered the same issue?

My works flawlessly single tap, double tap, doesn't matter but I use nova launcher and Iam rooted
I noticed something similar because my 3 XL worked with the slightest tap. My 7 misses taps if I'm not directly tapping with a full press of my finger. If it's just a brief tip tap it sometimes doesn't work. The strange thing is if I'm tapping something on the screen it shows the touch animation, but it doesn't register the tap, so I have to tap again harder, and then it works. Seeing a setting to increase sensitivity makes me thing Google has the default too low, and hopefully can "fix" it in an update.

Nova Launcher, my favourite app!
Seems like some shortcomings of Pixel 7 can be solved using the root access, however it seems crazy I need to root the phone to get the same functions as on a Samsung or a OnePlus phone :-/

Yes, it is as you describe. But don't hope too much, this behavior about missing already animated taps had been reported for Pixel 6 by many people, but Google seems to ignore it or what, they just don't give a care?
I encountered this issue in the beginning. Try the following and see if it solves your phone being unresponsive to tapping to unlock the device. Go to: Settings>Display>Lock screen and turn off Lift to check phone, turn on Tap to check phone.

Hey, same here sometimes. I got a pretty good but cheap tempered glass screen protector with which FP works 8/10 plus using face unlock. Better touch input option with protector is enabled in settings.

Exactly this happens more often and I had that on my Pixel 6 too which I replaced with a Realme GT2 Pro (no problems with the Realme) but on Pixel 7 now again. Still using three buttons navigation bar, and often the taps don't work there too.
LOL f* Google, can't they get their stuff fixed? I mean the company which codes the OS sucks regarding their flagships more than other OEMs which only adapt the OS. Jesus f* christ.
