Question When I press power button, phone goes to lock screen instead of turning off display - Google Pixel 7

Hi, when i press the power button on my pixel 7, sometimes (i would say 50% of the times) it goes to the lockscreen instead of turning off the display. I cannot figure out why sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn't. Is this an intended behavior or it's a bug? Maybe I've missed some "smart" feature?

It could be the feature "pick up to wake" . So when you are pressing the power button and move the phone at the same time it wakes up again.
Does it also happen when the phone is flat on the table?

To have more control over when the screen turns on, consider these settings
Display:
- Disable wake on plug
- (Other important settings here too)
System->Gestures:
- Disable tap to check phone
- Disable lift to check phone
- Enable long press on fingerprint sensor to unlock phone
- (Also consider changing press and hold power button)

I had this on Android 12 Beta when I changed the animation speed to x0.5

Using PocketToolMan 2 on Tilt

even though I click "suspend", the button that supposedly powers off the device, all that happens is the screen turns off only to come back when a button is pressed - am i missing something?
Start-settings-system-keylock Lock all buttons except power button
No luck...
that didn't do it - in Pocket Tool Manager 2 it specificaly says that the "suspend" command should power off the tilt - all it does with mine, even when applying your suggested settings, is turn the screen off - where can I get an app that shuts the damn thing off?
Hold the power key down for a full power off... press it and it will hibernate... and then wake up according to the key lock conditions shown above.

X1 Auto Key Lock?

Hey I was hoping that someone new of a registry setting or 3rd part app that I could use to automatically lock the keys of my X1 after a minute or so.
I can only find the option to do it with a password in the standard settings and I'm sure that would get annoying after a while so I was hoping to do one without, just like that standard key lock.
Any ideas?
For me after one minute it will lock automatically and can only restore it with the power button (can lock the keys manually by pressing the power button key too).
See Start -> Settings -> System -> Power -> Advanced
Tick the second option and set your preferred time.
Do you mean the lock function from holding down the end call button?

Exactly, I would prefer that to the setting to turn the screen off and only being able to turn it on via the power button, if possible
Something like this. Have not tried it myself

Sorry if this isn't what you are after, but...
Start -> Settings -> System -> Power -> Advance
On battery power:
[x] Turn off device if not used for: [3 min \/]
Start -> Settings -> System -> Key Lock
When device is in Sleep mode:
(x) Wake up the device by pressing the POWER button
...results in my phone going to sleep after 3 mins of no use, with the only way to wake it by pressing the power button (or to have an incoming call)

Yeah in those 3 minutes the screen takes any touch as an input though, while being in your pocket.
I don't get it, if you hold down the close call button the phone locks itseld and you get a click here to unlock screen if you touch the screen. Why can't the X1 have an option to enable this after x seconds?
Hell, my T630 has that.

What's wrong with the power button lock? It is almost the same, the difference is that you don't have to touch the screen to unlock but press the power button.
I don't understand at all this topic. The topic starter said he wants a lock without pressing anything after one minute. The solution provided by me and artesea is exactly that. Again the only difference is the unlocking method which instead using the screen you press the power button.
People are quite finicky these days....
I find this annoying also.
I now have to lock my phone (holding down the end call button) and then push the off button when I put it in my pocket. Would be better if theres an auto screen off and keyboardlock when you push the off-button.
Sorry, do we have different phones??????
To "lock" my phone I press the Power button, everything goes dark and I can put it in my pocket, doesn't matter if I hit the call button or tap the screen, the only way to "unlock" the phone is to press the Power button again.
If I forget to press the Power button after 3 minutes (but you can set this as low as 40 seconds) it "locks" the phone for me.
No need to press the End Call, or tap on the today screen.

I used to just press the power button and put the phone to sleep too... but then after a could long flight I found out that 1) if I put my phone in my jeans' front pocket (or actually... anywhere that have a chance to bump the power button), I can hit the power button and 2) once I hit the power button, the phone wakes for a couple hours trying to search for the network in the sky... and thanks god the plane didnt crash because of that but it did drain all the battery
I dunno if you have seen this too, but I realized that happened to me a couple times (not only on the plane but when I was walking as well) and eventually I decide I will hit the end call button to lock the phone before I hit the power button
this also happened when I had S2U2 installed... but since I didnt find it too useful (very nice if you want a iphone feel... but I already had an iphone for too long =P) and I dont want another application running in the background I decided to use the lock button instead
I was looking for automatic keylock too .. and then I too relized I don't need it ! Automatic screen-off is all I need.
For everyone who doesnt understand this thread, hold down the end call button and wwatch what happens.
The benefit is that yiu can see updates, email, sms, etc because the screen remains on for a while.

When i long hold the cut-call button, (which also has a lock icon on it) to happen automatically and is there a setting anywhere???
Try TouchLockPro, ever the best, even if just a few function is working on Xperia.
But actually this is what you are looking for.

How do you check message?

Hi, please forgive me for asking such a dumb question. I imagine my problem is not that uncommon. By default, the phone turns off back light if I don't touch any key for 30 seconds (feels like shorter than that). Anyway, I dial in to check my voicemail. Due to the length of the message, the back light turns off. It looks like there is no key other than the power button can bring the screen back. Sometimes, I have to press the power button a couple of times before the screen comes back, then when I try to delete the message (by pressing 7) sometimes I don't even see the keypad any more. It's just a bit of hassle. Can you tell me how you would do it?
thanks very much!
I'm not sure if there's an option for the phone not to switch the backlight off and/or go to sleep while in a phone call.
If you want to control the duration before the phone switches off the backlight or goes to sleep, you will have to change the backlight or power settings ujnder Settings -> System.
didn't know when and how it was set at 10 sec backlight

Thanks! I went into Settings -> System -> backlight and realized that it was set to was set at 10 sec on battery. I don't know when it got changed. Reset it back to 30 sec. should be better now. Changed the power to turn off after 3 min, too.

Home button remap mod + call screen issue solved!

For null ROM users that have the home button remap mod enabled (allowing you to manually turn off the screen with the power button when using 3rd party launchers), there is a documented issue where it can be difficult to wake the gear back up when in an active call.
Pressing the power button usually results in the screen flashing on and turning right back off. Sometimes you need to double tap the button or time the presses just right to get the screen to turn on and stick.
Fortunately, I stumbled upon a solution to this........this assumes you are already using Xposed.
1) Download the "Xposed Additions" module
2) Activate the module and reboot your gear for it to take effect
3) Go into Xposed Additions -> Buttons -> Add new Key and then press the power button at the prompt.
3) Select the power key option that should now appear in the list and add a new condition for "Screen off"
4) Set the "Long press action" for "End Call".
NOTE: Long pressing the power button while in a call does not actually work. BUT you will notice that you can now reliable press the power button (just once) in order to succesfully wake the gear back up from the in-call screen.
I have noticed no other adverse effects after making this change but have only been testing it for about a day.

Pressure sensitive home button issue

I bought my Note 8 brand new less than three weeks ago and I am noticing a fault with the home button. I don't use the always on display so when I go to use my device the screen is 100% off. I force press the virtual home button and the phone jumps to life....although in a faulty kind of way. The haptic feedback is random and the force required to press the button is random. Sometimes the screen turns on and there is a lag until the vibration feedback. It isn't a consistent button at all when the screen is off and I'm wondering if this is a hardware fault? I'm running the latest update.
Nobody has any home button issues when the screen is off? When using the always on display and the ambient light is low the always on display will be off, so in these situations will hard pressing the home button result in a consistently tactile operation each and every time?
Well, no, the home button behaves exactly as intended, in AOD, in homescreen and in any app, I even assigned it the lock screen behavior when long pressed
In general have never had issues with hard pressing with screen off, often when i fish my phone out my pocket i accidentally hard press and the vibration tells me so with no lag.
the only time there is a lag is when the phone just came out of a cold boot or if it's installing/updating stuff.

Mine works fine for double taps of the home button within the AOD and for long presses when the screen is on. It is when the screen is fully off that the home button becomes temperamental. When it is too dark for the AOD to illuminate, or when the AOD is switched off and I press where the home button should be to wake the device....they're the scenarios when my pressure sensitive home button plays up. It should perform like a mechanical home button and wake the screen whether AOD is on or not, but 3 or 4 times out of 10 it plays up. It will still wake my device but it takes a harder/longer press, the press might not register at all, or the haptoc feedback will lag. The button becomes inconsistent and frustrating to use. So many people use the fingerprint sensor to unlock, the physical power button to wake the device or they're always in a well lit room so can double tap from the AOD that they won't come across this fault even if they have it.
Sunking, I dont think the light levels or anything else for that matter, make your button erratic, take your device to claim warranty
