Broken screen... not sure how to get into phone - Maze Alpha Questions & Answers

My screen broke and I can figure out how to log into the phone to back it up.
What can I do? Is there any USB-c to HDMI output devices people have used?
Can I somehow use ADB to get into the phone?
I dont want to replace the screen as I am just going to upgrade now.
Any thoughts?

What kind of security did you have on your phone? Pattern, pin, password?
Can you see anything on your screen or it is completely black?
Does the phone screen respond to touches or it is completely dead?

Screen not working

Hello,
I have sent my gnexus off to be repaired this week and recently started to use my old milestone until my other phone is repaired. Phone was working fine, a little slow to my nexus but it was better than nothing. I was checking my emails and stuck my phone in my pocket to cross the street, when I pulled it out again, the screen would light up (glow) but the screen was black, I tried pulling the battery and rebooting but to no avail. I can feel the phone vibrate when I slide my finger across to unlock it and tap icons, but nothing is being displayed. I'm wondering if anybody else has had something like this happen and if it is possible to fix relatively easily?
If you don't get anything on the screen anymore I'm afraid it's a hardware failure.
Maybe the connector cable is broken (partially), I guess...
I guess Eiertschik is right.
In the boot process, does the M logo show up?

[Q] only digitizer works after 2 foot drop onto carpet.

Hello XDA,
So a Moto X 2014 was dropped from the height of a couch to a carpeted floor earlier today (my friends moto ). He picked it up, inspected it and then resumed using it after seeing no evidence of damage(no cracked screen). Next he turned the screen off. After a bit, when he went to turn the screen back on, it would not. The haptic feedback still works when hitting the home key and other parts. I can even drag up to get to google now, then start typing into the search bar. All of this is done by feel, without the screen being on at all. Also of course "ok google" works too. The phone also gives sound feedback. So now you guys get the picture here, only the screen does not work, and the digitizer does. I have two questions here:
1. How?
Why on earth would the phone still work until the screen was turned off?
2. Is there any way to fix this?
My hypothesis was that the display connector somehow became ajar due to the drop, which would require a teardown, which we will not do. Would a battery disconnect help at all. I think we may be willing to risk peeling off the back to disconnect the battery.
The phone is most likely going to to be returned, however if there is something we can do which might work possibly via software on the computer that would be great.
Thank you XDA so much for your help!

Enter boot loader. Turn off your phone and then press enter and volume down. After that with the volume down go to "factory" and press volume up to select it. Your phone will restart with out radio signal and a Commserver app on your status bar, there you can select the first option and check all the system hardware. Hope it helps.
Regards
I can't access the bootloader because the screen will not turn on. I would not know what I was selecting. That is the source of the problem. Thanks though.
Is there a way to do a factory reset over usb with adb? Also I cannot find the required drivers.... anyone out there?

Yeap. But first download minimal adb and Fastboot drivers then search for the firmware of your phone
The command is
Fastboot flash system system. img
I think you need to unlock your bootloader in order to flash even stock system files
Since you dropped it it is rarely possible that software is "broken" better to do is sending to motorola asking for warranty (if no signs of drop are visible) an hope.

Screen went black, but there is a voice describing what's on the screen

Okay, so this is a weird one. My little brother has a had his Kindle Fire HD 7" since it came out and just recently the screen has gone completely black. But what's odd is that there is a voice describing what is on the screen, and it seems to still respond to touches. He claims he didn't do anything and that he just woke up to it being like that.
So I really have no idea if there is a way to disable the screen that he accidently enabled, or what. But I'm stuck trying to fix it for him now. My gut says that the screen is shot because even when I power cycle it I get absolutely nothing on the screen. ADB was never enabled on it either, so I have no way of reflashing it, except maybe with something called a factory cable.
Do any of you have any suggestions that I can try to fix this or any easy way to use a factory cable to give it a fresh firmware reflash?
Thank you for the help!

[SM-A310F] Recover files with a broken screen, debug off & OEM Lock

Hi everybody, I need all of your brains, because my brain stuck at this point.
Yesterday I got a phone (Samsung Galaxy A3 or model SM-A310F) from my neighbor with an damaged display. He told me the phone fell into water, but run after drying normal (I saw a video, isn't the phone water proof?) but then it fell to the ground and since the phone doesn't recognize any touch. I checked it and told him that I need to take a look inside because the glas is in a perfect state, I could see anything on it but, as I said, no functional touch. Hard-Keys are working fine.
The first thing what I does, was to restart the phone with "Vol- and Power". I thought the phone were now bricked, because the boot-up seems to be endless. After I let the phone work for approximately 5-10 minutes, the Samsung logo comes up and Android was there but again, with no touch.
So, as I said, I opened the phone, took a look inside and was very confused, because two wires were broken and some electrical parts near the display plug and the plug itself had a white covering, I think from the water damage before. Anyway, the phone is running but after I opened it, the screen got black and never come back. I cleaned up the parts and the plug and tried again, now when I press home or power, the screen is flickering on the left for a short time and is then black again.
At this point I said him that the phone is broken, because it is not clearly if the screen is broken and/or the mainboard, too (because of the white covering).
My neighbor asked me to recover the files and the contacts. I told him it is hard, but not impossible. My plan was to install a recovery, boot into and to adb pull all the files to my computer.
But: USB Debugging is DISABLED and the oem lock is on, too, so I failed trying to install twrp with odin. I just get a fail.
New for me: you can control your phone with your computer mouse and keyboard, so I thought, I can just accept the MTP request and simply drag and drop the files... but nope, the request just pops up, when I connect the phone to the computer. So I can't use my keyboard AND the connection to my pc...
Adb doesn't recognize the phone, because of the disabled usb debug (and even if I can figure it, I need to accept the debug dialog while connecting).
So, this is your part, anybody, any Idea to install something or just to recover the files?
My ideas:
Mirroring APK (to mirror the screen to my PC, explored that with MyPhoneExplorer)
Custom Recovery for stock recovery flashing (flashable zip)
Downgrading (but will definitly stuck in a bootloop, because I can't delete the data)
...
What do you suggest?
Buying a new screen isn't an option. I don't know anybody who can "borrow" me his screen.
I'm really a android geek, not someone as you are, but more than "normal users", so if it difficult, it is not a problem.
I also accept some tips with the screen part. I attached the picture, which I tooked for him. There you can see the white covering AFTER cleaning (it is almost there at some spots... I don't want to break more).
Thank you alot!
Kisses from germany =)
Sorry! I posted it in the wrong sub =( Can anyone please move it?
Ah I would like to update this thread:
I bought a new display, had some problems anyway but now I got a new phone =)

Touch just stopped working any way to backup phone with unresponsive touch feedback?

So I was just using the phone without issue yesterday evening. Then it just stopped responding and was sitting on my home screen. Thought it was locked then a phone call came it. Obviously not locked. Then it chimed an email came in. Again obviously not locked. Rebooted the phone to obviously the pin screen due to restart. No ability to touch any numbers. Don't feel the vibration of touching the screen either. Display is fine, not dropped, phone calls will pop up on the screen but no way to do anything.
I obviously need to replace the screen with touch digitizer I guess. How much fun that's going to be to find when every result under the sun comes up because of all the Mi Mix versions.
Is there a windows app that can backup the phone without unlocking it or imputing anything into the phone? Or am I screwed? Was going to try factory reset as a last resort before attempting to find a new screen for it. But really want to back it up first if it's possible.
