GT-N8013 - Too old to update? - Galaxy Tab 10.1v Android Development

I just came across my old tab 10.1 and see that the OS is the most current update at 4.1.2.
I wanted to use it for a zoom call but apparently this device/os is not supported.
But before I throw it away, I thought I'd check if there's any way to update the tablet enough to at least install Zoom.
Or if there are any other ways of getting modern benefit from this dinosaur.
(it still runs well. fairly snappy. I hate to trash it if there's a way of making it useful.)

That's old with only 2gb of ram. I would keep it on Kitkat. Repurpose it as a surveillance vid monitor, picture display, etc. Remember to charge the battery to 75% every few months while in storage.

You don't want to go beyond Android 9 unless scoped storage is fully disabled as it will squander resources which are already limited.
Pie is reasonably secure, versions below that not so much.

Are there ROMS for the 10.1 and Android 9?
Is Zoom likely to be compatible?

Don't know about the roms but Zoom is compatible with Android 5.0 and higher.

Fennec Alpha 3 (Firefox for WM)

http://blog.mozilla.com/blassey/2009/09/04/fennec-alpha-3-for-windows-mobile/
I have installed this on my X1 and the interface looks good, but I can't get it to load any web pages!!
Am I missing something or is anyone else having the same issue?
For those that want to give it a try the cab is here:
bit.ly/wma3cab
same here
I didn't have any trouble at all - just installed and ran fine. I'm using Touch-X custom rom though, so I'm not sure if that affects it. I've tried both a1 and a3.
I'm really excited about the layout, it certainly better and more inline with the iPhone Safari experience; needless to say the rendering is the same as FF for desktops. But it's quite unstable, many pages cause the browser to crash/quit, and since there's no support for OpenES yet - it's painfully slow.
I only had one problem with it. It was terribly slow.
As Opero Mobile Turbo mode is still in beta and does not support lots of features, I keep my Opera mini.

Thats absolutely no excuse for this extremely slow piece of software, Opera Mobile 9.6 didn't have any acceleration either and is over an hundred times faster. OpenGL-ES was one of the key-features of 9.7 Beta.
Granted, its a Alpha. But all things considered, I dont think we'll ever see this running at reasonable speeds on the 528Mhz MSM7200A.
Im very interested how the speed is on the, 1Ghz Snapdragon powered, LG TG01 phone.
The actual page panning is a lot better since A2, it's just panning onto the interface that is painfully slow.

Haha that's true, shame that it seems Fennec's focus is really just on the Nokia platform at the moment.
on my x1, don't start the browser, crash only.

OperaMini 5 soon..
Will kick ass probably.
I think some people in this thread forget that it is a fricking ALFA! IT IS SUPPOSED TO CRASH AND BE SLOW AND LAGGY! Ever heard of a "work in progress", or did you think "alfa" is part of the name? Pffft...

same problem for me
I have it installed (using King's Legend 1.0), but it's not doing anything. I open the app, it shows a big button that says "Launch", I click it, and then I get a black screen (top bar is still there)
This is an EARLY beta of Fennec and it was designed for the Droid/Nexus. Chances are, it isnt gonna work right with the G1.

Please note that I said it is an EARLY BETA. Actually, it's the FIRST BETA. It's going to have problems on any device, much less a device it wasnt designed to support, like the G1.
the guy said it requires android 2.0 or higher.
As I read things, it is actually an UNOFFICIAL beta built from the dev repos.
The official betas will be distributed from mozilla's website, just as the n900 betas are.
Its also a ~40mb app. My thoughts are its running itself virtually for now. But that could be one stupid theory...
The alpha is out for Android 2.0 users. Only 10M this time

Isn't it awesome that custom roms can come with devices
Do you ever think a rom like Paranoid or Cyanogenmod could be cold with a pre-rooted phone?
also, for a custom rom phone to be targeted (and sold) at British/American/English speaking country?
The cool thing is, according to cnet's bench mark tests, this phone is more powerful then the S3 or One x!!
I don't like MIUI particuarlly but the idea is pretty awesome
Pics =D

Also
There is a problem with this phone being sold in America/Europe

Unless i'm missing something obvious, the Xiaomi Mi-One was the first MIUI Phone with the Mi-Two being the second? Anyway, wish these could be bought here, and in English, as i really like the MIUI style and the specs are pretty decent. I'm not sure that i'd be confident in build quality or after-sales care though.
The concept of having a custom ROM phone is a bit moot with Android though. How is a HTC phone with Sense Android, or a Samsung phone with Touchwiz Android, any different from a Xiaomi phone with MIUI Android?
lol
Well, makes sense. I never heard of the one though. I still find it interesting how it is supposedly better than the one x or s3
Why would anyone buy a one x or s3 when this is cheaper (in China where it is sold)

Probably because being cheap is usually the opposite of quality and last-ability. Also, when my phone breaks I return it to my provider or manufacturer by giving it to the driver that brings me a new one the next day. Good luck doing that with one of these.

I guess because sense/wiz only comes with phones (in theory) whilst MIUI was first a ROM and I'm pretty sure is open source.
Men, maybe I'm just overexcited by a cheap powerphone
But do you think they OEM lock the phone, or is it prerooted or nexus like (in rooting method)?

Blurry in app icons

Hi, I have an ROG Phone II on Android 10 version 17.0240.2108.103, and a lot of my apps have blurry icons when I'm inside the apps for no apparent reason, almost like it's loading the wrong DPI for the icons. Snapchat, YouTube, Google maps, Facebook, Messenger, TikTok, and my Asus router app are all effected in some capacity. I attached screenshots of the apps I've noticed the issue in so far.. any ideas would be helpful. Deleting the apps and reinstalling them doesn't help

That's what my plan was, but I still don't have any OTA notification over a month after release.
I haven't looked much into updating manually, but it seems more complex than I'd like.
I'll be going for any other brand the next time I need a phone. This poor software support really sucks. I sent an inquiry about the headphone jack not functioning on the fan accessory when using the gamepad attachment, and never got anything useful back out of it.
My first Android phone was an Essential PH-1 and getting updates the same time as Pixel devices really spoiled me. Security updates were always current, as well. Much better experience overall, on a much more limited device.

Update: I dropped the . ZIP OTA file into root, and it fixed all the issues I was having.
It also removed a gesture I liked having to get to the app tray. "innovation" they call it.
Thanks for the suggestion though, I appreciate it! At least the icons look better now

Question LoD (Linux on DeX)

I'm reading about LoD (Linux on DeX) and i wanted to use it but from what i find online it is discontinued, files don't work on android 11 and there is only the andronix with termux and bVNC or VNC or XSDL or something to play with it.
DeX works as expected, the phone delivers, i would like to know if i can have an optimized version of linux on my S21 ultra, i'd like to know that it can work and not run 2-3 commands each time to make it work.
Usage case, vscode, browsing, docker
Try Andronix, see if it helps.
As i mentioned, there are viable solutions
andronix with termux and bVNC or VNC or XSDL or something to play with it

the thing is, i'd like something near native, like LoD was, cause i really want to replace e.g. a chromebook.
i've got screens everyplace i go, and i also have DeX software installed, i can even work without cables.
i'd like to have LoD experience!
Then your only option is to get a phone that still has LoD active (an S9 or S10, I don't remember, that was never updated beyond Android 9).

Thank you for the suggestion, i won't trade my brand new S21 Ultra for a lesser Samsung device.. :-/
And we get somebody here on XDA to mod the LOD app to bypass the Android version.
I have used Andronix and it is okay. It's not the same. Besides getting the app off of APK mirror you can go to archive.org to download the Ubuntu from Samsung.

I already did gather all the original and forked apk, and the images.. but still haven't had the time to get my hands on my S21u, left it at the office yesterday cause i've got a f*** load of data to transfer (about 210gb) from my Oneplus 7 to it.
I'll report my findings and/or results soon.
