[ROM][UMI][UNOFFICIAL] Lineage OS 19.1/20 (vanilla/microG/GApps) - Xiaomi Mi 10 ROMs, Kernels, Recoveries, & Other De

Hello all, just thought I'd drop a quick post for anyone that like me a couple months ago was looking for a LineageOS version for your Mi 10 that is up to date and fully functional.
If you are looking for vanilla LOS or LOS with GApps, chaptsand offers those on a ~2 month release schedule without OTA updates. He previously released 19.1, but seems to have moved to 20 and no longer updates his 19.1 images. You can find those releases ready to install here: https://github.com/chaptsand/android_device_xiaomi_umi/releases
I also offer vanilla LOS with OTA updates here, and instructions to flash GApps, which is the same process as with official LOS.
Since I wanted LOS with microG instead of GApps, I have been working on that, and I just recently released LOS 19.1 and 20.0 with microG. I will be releasing new builds twice a month, and I also offer OTA updates in my builds, so you don't have to update manually and you can do it directly through the updater app in LineageOS. Currently 20.0 is supported and I will continue giving support to the 19.1 images until I see that no one is updating to the latest builds. You can find those versions here
If you end up using any of these versions, please consider supporting chaptsands work by following the link to his github releases, where he has links to accept donations. And enjoy!
EDIT: As requested by the mods, here is the link to the kernel I use to build my microG images. I have forked the kernel from UtsavBalar, who is the actual maintainer of the kernel, I just use my own branches due to the branch name requirements of my build process, and to ensure that new changes upstream don't impact builds until I have time to sync the branches and ensure that the changes don't break the automatic build process I have set up. More specifically, I am currently using release 6.0 for LOS 19.1, and release 7.1 for LOS 20.0. To see what repos exactly I am using at any time in my builds (whether it be kernel, hardware or device specific), you can check this file, as I may change sources in the future.
EDIT #2: I added a link to my vanilla hosting repo with installation instructions, for anyone interested in vanilla LineageOS with OTA updates.
I decided to create a Telegram group in the end, the invite link is: https://t.me/+JD3_waVOj_NhMTNk. Feel free to join and ask questions or propose changes

LOS 20 + microG has just been released on the repository mentioned above

Hi, I wanted to know if, on this rom, the netflix app works? I tried it first version 20 and the playstore said that netflix is not compatible with this rom. I also tried magisk with safenet but nothing to do.

Not sure if you're asking about chaptsands version (either vanilla or GApps), or the microG version. I am currently running the LOS 20.0 microG version, I re-rooted it with magisk, and I was able to download Netflix from Aurora Store without an issue, open it up and sign up for an account. I haven't seen the catalog, because I don't actually want to open an account and have to pay them for something I won't use, but as far as I've seen, it works fine for me.
In your case, does it tell you its not compatible directly when the app starts up, or when you log in and view the catalog?

it write that is not compatible directly in the google playstore, when i try to download the app. the version is with GApp installed

Are you using the GApps version? I assume so, if you're saying that it doesn't let you download it from the playstore. Have you tried using the Aurora Store, with an anonymous account? Maybe the Play Store itself has some extra validations that don't allow Netflix to be installed. I also assume you have checked in Magisk and you see that it is properly installed?

I would suggest trying to install Netflix via the Aurora Store. If you are using the GApps version I cannot help you much, as I am not the one that builds or runs that version. I just linked chaptsands versions in case anyone was interested because it took me a long time to find anyone providing LOS for the Mi 10.
I am running LOS 20 with microG, which I build and host myself, and have rooted my phone with Magisk the same as you. The Aurora Store lets me download the Netflix app, so I would recommend you do the same, try installing it and see if that works for you, I don't see why it should not you can get the Aurora Store here: https://auroraoss.com/

@nanoandrew4 Hi OP, thanks for sharing this ROM on XDA for this device. As part of the GPL v2 license requirement on open source, could you please post a link to the kernel source you use? If you are using a pre-built kernel, kindly post a download link as well.
By doing this, other developers may benefit from your work and they would do the similar thing in future to bring the community with more good ROMs.
Thank you for understanding. Feel free to contact me via message if you have questions.

Yes of course, the sources used are publicly visible in the umi.xml file in the repository, but I'll link them at the top too. Please let me know if I need to add or modify anything else.

Any particular reaason to use Telegram over Gitter or IRC? I don't like the idea of having to hand over my phone number to yet another company.

Quick update, I've started offering vanilla builds of LineageOS with OTA updates here. You can flash GApps on the vanilla image if you wish, just like with official LineageOS images.

Please be aware that both vanilla and microg versions of my builds, on both 19.1 and 20.0, have an issue with the Updater app, the OTA URL is wrong due to an issue with the cloud build process I am using which has been corrected. The published builds which had errors have been removed, so please revert to an older version manually, or wait for the new batch of builds with the corrected OTA URL that will be available throughout the day tomorrow.
If you are rooted, you can also manually modify the `build.prop` file in /system, look for the `lineage.updater.uri` prop and replace the dash character --> - with a period --> . This will fix the issue and you will start receiving updates normally once again.
The issues have been mentioned in both repos:

About The Open GApps Project
Open GApps is a Google Apps package completely developed by writing buildscripts which allow for the automated creation of new up-to-date packages automatically.
The development process is completely open-source (GPLv3) and the goal is to have multiple contributors involved, to secure and reinforce the sustainability of Open GApps development.
Builds are generated every (European) night automatically (if there are any changes) and uploaded to GitHub.

Characteristic of Open GApps:
All platforms and and all android versions are supported
DPI-optimized support for ALL packages (unlike all the other GApps out there)
Frequently updated Google Apps: Packages are updated daily (if there are any updated google apps released)
Strong compression, which allows for relatively small downloads of even the most complete packages
All apps are untouched, we do not change or modify Googles' applications but deliver them as-is
Automatic Backup: It is not necessary to re-flash Open GApps or modules when you flash a ROM update. Most ROMs support this function
All installers measure your device's system partition size and will notify you, BEFORE making any changes, if it finds any problems
We offer several variations from a Google Stock Package (based on what Google ships on Nexus devices) to smaller, minimalist packages.
All packages can be customized to your individual preferences using our exclusive Advanced Features and Options
The idea behind this project:
I believe a big source of the problem for many GApps packages to stay up-to-date (or not be forfeited) is the lack of time for developers to do labour-intensive repetive every time a new google-app apk is released.
That is why I have taken it upto myself to write some Linux shell scripts to automate the packaging and to share these efforts with the world with the goal to create a team to continue this package together under the name Open GApps.
This project should not be managed by a person, but by a team, so volunteers willing to help are more than welcome!

Open GApps is originally based on the now discontinued PA GApps package of @TKruzze and @osm0sis
Open GApps also includes some code and features from the TK-GApps package of @TKruzze and @osm0sis
I have converted Zenfone gapps to x86 Open Gapps, because i was contacted by @MastahF about working on Open Gapps for x86 because there are so few devices with intel chips. I agreed to help with it, initially it took some work to get all of the apps updated but once that was done Mastah and i talked about including arm apps in the packages because we have LibHoudni which allows arm apps. Which has now been implemented in today's build. The only thing that does not currently work is Face lock because this does not have a x86 version and arm one does not work.

So... question for you then. Backstory: I signed up for Github a couple of weeks ago to watch our CM project, and I even took a tutorial on Git (hoping that I could learn how to contribute (hasn't gone all that well)). So the question is: How do I build it myself?
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Development#Learning_To_Build_CM
Do I just need to dig through this for a weekend or two until I get it, or is there a simpler answer?

Well that's true, but having Houdini compatiblity stuff doesn't preform as well as native apps.
and i saw on apkmirror we need -470 build for gapps x86, daymn its a whole different structure if its like this.. so does that means cm12.1 is also different for arm or x86 device?

About
MoKee OpenSource is based on the Cyanogenmod. We update our source code frequently to keep up with the latest development, and not forgetting to merge in special features of our own at the same time.
A small group of people from around the world who are interested in Android launched this project on the 12th of December 2012, and is committed to make this ROM better and better. Like most contributors of open source projects (Omni, CyanogenMod, Slim AOSPA etc), we are doing all these in our free time as our passion…
Since this project is open source, anyone interested can participate in the development (maintain new devices, contribute code etc). Newcomers are always welcomed!
Read here for developer application: http://www.mfunz.com/en/developer-application, you can host your unofficial MoKee builds on our server!
Features:
(I will mention only that which does not take into CyanogenMod)
Listview animation
Interpolation anmação listview
Update over the air can download the download website only incremental, it helps lower faster update and upgrade more easily:
Some icons and own layouts
Manager for Google services, so no need to use a large gapps, you can only download necessary at MokeeCenter
Ringtones, Alarms, Notification, UI sounds are all different CyanogenMod, thus bringing a beautiful charm to rom
bootianimation own
information integrated into MokeeCenter
Settings to add speed data network
Settings for navigation bar
Settings for Statusbar
Intelligent control settings to configure the newer apps and others.
What is the difference?
RELEASE: Tested after integrating new features, more stable than NIGHTLY. (Odexed builds)
NIGHTLY: Built daily with newest code and experimental features, might contain undiscovered bugs. (Deodexded builds)
HISTORY: Final odexded builds once a newer Android version is out and being built.
EXPERIMENTAL: Released when a new device is added or when a new feature is added for public beta testing and feedback. (Deodexded builds)
UNOFFICIAL: Maintained separately by individual developers, usually involves modification of shared code which cannot be merged (affects other devices), therefore maintained by the developer himself.
Note: We always test the shared code for bugs, however sometimes we may not be able to detect device specific bugs. If you have such issues, it will be better to report to the device maintainer.

install the complete package downloaded via OTA
Method 2:
Download the complete package over the air and go to install update

I flashed it a couple of nights ago and have used it a little bit; it's... interesting. The launcher is cute as I said before
I am not sure what app store it uses (is it specific to /e/? I have never seen it before) but it seems to function kind of like Aurora Store? It comes with a pretty good initial set of apps anyway.
I've tested the version "e-0.14-q-20210225103486-dev-suzuran" one week ago. Runs pretty good. But for me in personal it's a little bit too playful.

In facts the rom is very similar to berni's ones except for a different launcher and different icons.
The camera ( default app is open camera ) has 8mp limitation and is often slow to focus, as in all >7 roms.
I just tested the new e-0.15-q version, removed microg and some other default apps from system/priv-app in order to flash gapps. Everything seems to work.
It seems that they're just using other developer's work and adding a different UI, but all in all it's a good thing to have an official supported rom.
If someone wants to give a try to their launcher, there is a f-droid version ( not up to date ), it's called bliss.

/e/ OS is based on LineageOS and/or LineagOS for microG. For devices not officially supported by Lineage OS - such as suzuran - the /e/ OS ROM is based on unofficial LineageOS ROMs, in this case @Berni-0815's excellent ROM.
The device information page at <https://doc.e.foundation/devices/suzuran/> does credit Berni, and there is an issue raised to give better credit / acknowledgement to creators of the ROMs on which /e/ is based.

What do you have to uninstall in order to install gapps?
Are you able to use their OTA updates after flashing gapps?
The reason I am trying to do such atrocity to a ROM that its purpose is to be ungoogled is: OTA updates and trustable ROM sources.
UNOFFICAL ROMs are cool, but we can never know if the dev decides to add something "extra" to the ROM. The best thing about LineageOS is that the sources, updates and flashing are signed and can ver verified. They, along with /e/, are a trusted source and not just a bunch of binaries hosted on mega.
And that's something that I want to archive with /e/: it is my trustable base ROM and then i flash opengapps, which I also trust

For what you want to do, you should just use that ROM and install OpenGapps. All of Berni's code is available on his GitHub repos

I have only used it on E5823. I have no idea whether or not it would work on any other "version"
[edit] Checking out the official information model E5803 is also supported.
But please note that I have not personally tried it on that model. Also as mentioned above, this ROM is based on @Berni-0815's unofficial LineageOS 17.1 ROM.
Also, official support for this ROM is via the /e/ OS forums: you are more likely to get a swift response to any queries there than you are here

Hello, just change the device codename which about download link:
https://images.ecloud.global/dev/suzuran/ (so "suzuran" codenamed z5 compact device)
to
https://images.ecloud.global/dev/sumire/ (so "sumire" codenamed z5 device's e os rom)
but backup your current rom fully before flashing this.
Please do not flash this ROM which is only for Z5 Compact (suzuran) on any other device (such as Z5 (sumire)). Doing so could render your device non-functional.
The official ROM for Z5 Sumire (linked above) is only Android 7 (Nougat) since that was the last version of Lineage OS which supported this device. The official ROM for Z5 Compact is Android 10 (Q).
Please also note that the recommend support channel for this ROM is the /e/ community forums, not this thread or this forum. I am the /e/ ROM maintainer for this device: I do look at posts in this thread, but if you have an issue or question about this /e/ ROM, please raise it there rather than here.

Yes, you are right; but firstly you should know about why XDA has formed and read the topic of this thread so i said: "... I am not developer of this rom; but i open this thread because the official /e/ os's team doesnt opened this thread so i want to everyone to know this rom..."
If you want, i can remove this thread because of i am not maintainer of that and you can open thread for it for everyone to know that rom which is especially official for that phone which has forget by developers like i did here.
I'm very happy for you to publicise this ROM here. I just want readers to be clear that support for this, and other /e/ ROMs and services, is to be found in the /e/ community forums
Have you guys noticed that it is not possible to install Google Play Store on this ROM?
However after flashing GApps, there will be no Play Store app.
I've tested OpenGApps and NikGApps and non of them worked.
Also tested manually installing Play Store apk after flashing GApps.
Please, Is it any possible solution?

If you installed and are currently running one of Synt4x's ROM builds, you can flash over it. If you're coming from stock ROM you'll have to do a full format per Lineage's official guide.
Wow looks like a polished and hassle-free Lineage version! Thanks for your work and for sharing it.
I am considering to buy either a Galaxy S9 or S10 for an acquaintance since both are often sold phones. So they should have good community support for quite a while. Neither of the two has official Lineage support as of now. They do appear to be supported by /e/OS and CrDroid but I feel that Lineage is still the way to go for rock-solid experience right after flashing.
So is it planned to add official Lineage support? If not, would it be feasible with some help and contributions of others? Could you add this information in the first post for others too please?
Would be valuable information for many

I'll run the updates weekly.
Great! We missed LOS 18.1 for S9+!
Just did a dirty flash and rebooted successfully. So far everything is fine.
So thanks again!
BTW: I had to flash magisk again.
Haven't flashed ROMs since I had my Nexus 6P, so apologies if I missed something - is there a specific method to enable encryption on this ROM, or is it simply broken as of now?
I set my phone up, logged into everything and reinstalled all my apps, and then enabled encryption. Now the phone crashes and performs soft reboots. It also logged me out of my Google account. I suppose I'm going to have to wipe and reinstall.
It's also worth noting that neither TWRP 3.3.1 nor 3.5.2 can decrypt /data (I double-checked - the PIN was correct), which is a shame. I would have liked to have /data encrypted.

I figured it out! The trick was to enable encryption before setting anything else up.
Skip everything you can in initial setup (no Wi-Fi, no Google account, etc) so that by the end all you have is a PIN code in place (skip adding a fingerprint too). Then enable encryption, allow it to do its job, and when it reboots you can go about continuing setup.
TWRP unfortunately still cannot decrypt /data, however.
Hope this helps anyone running into the same problem.

LineageOS 18.1 is regularly updated by the maintainers, so I just run the updates for S9 and S9+ owners. This includes monthly AOSP performance and security updates.
Additionally, I am in the process of upstreaming the kernel. This provides performance and security enhancements made possible by the long term Linux kernel maintainers.
Synt4x hosts the device specific repos that make building Linegae 18.1 for the S9 and S9+ possible.

Yeah, there's a lot of improvements in performance, battery life, and security. I notice better reponsiveness and battery life, definitely. There's a full list of updates here: https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux.git/log/?h=linux-4.9.y Just browse for the kernel you're on and look at the previous update details. You can also browse my working kernel repo here: https://github.com/Geoknyda/android_kernel_samsung_universal9810 and reconcile with the Linux link to make sure the updates you care about are committed. I save a branch off of my default 4.9y after every patch bundle in case I have to revert due to an incompatibility.
At the rate I am going, I expect to have the kernel fully patched and up to date in a couple of days. I'll keep posting the ROMs as I progress in the OP. It's a lot of work going through 3,400 commits in a few days, but I think those who want security and performance for their S9/S9+ deserve to have it until the kernel reaches EOL in 2023.
Update:
The kernel is now fully patched and up to date. I will be maintaining additional kernel updates as they are released by the Linux Long-Term Support kernel team for the 4.9y branch until 2023, which is EOL for that branch. These updates will be merged into the weekly builds as well. Enjoy!
Hi there
jst a quick question......do the monthly android security updates come OTA, or do I have to download a file and install with TWRP?
I only ask because someone here seemed to sugegst that you had to do a complete reinstall of the latest version?

You can flash it over your existing ROM via ADB or OTA..
thaks for super quick reply.
No the original install will be over stock. But what to i need to do when there is an update?
Updating from stock, you'll have to do full wipe/flash/reset.
Updating afterwards with weekly builds in this thread's OP only requires dirty flashing:
Use OTA
or:
upload recovery
sideload updated zip
format cache & reboot

LineageOS is a free, community built, aftermarket firmware distribution of Android 11, which is designed to increase performance and reliability over stock Android for your device.
LineageOS is based on the Android Open Source Project with extra contributions from many people within the Android community. It can be used without any need to have any Google application installed. Linked below is a package that has come from another Android project that restore the Google parts. LineageOS does still include various hardware-specific code, which is also slowly being open-sourced anyway.
All the source code for LineageOS is available in the LineageOS Github repo. And if you would like to contribute to LineageOS, please visit out Gerrit Code Review. You can also view the Changelog for a full list of changes & features.

In order for the FP to work, choose "pico" for Android 11. This is the ONLY variant that has worked for me.
You will have to flash this package right after the ROM and BEFORE rebooting to System.
For example, assuming that you already have a custom recovery installed (https://dl.twrp.me/capricorn/) and want to start from scratch, these would be the steps to follow, but they can vary depending on your current configuration:
Download ROM and GApps pico.
Reboot to Recovery.

How is the battery performance in this ROM? And which Kernel would you recommend?
Speaking about battery, it really, really helped me find what's consuming it by opening a terminal and using either "top" or "htop" commands. This gives you the most CPU hungry processes in real time. A text based process manager, a sort of speech. Finding and "fixing" those applications resulted in a much better battery life. Turned out I had a file explorer app that was consuming 90% of the CPU. Uninstalling it made the phone way more responsive.
But this was a 3rd party app, not included in this build.

I haven't found any issues regarding battery performance, just like LOS 16.
As per kernel, I once tried builds with 4.4 and my device got hotter, that's why I'd stick to 3.18.

@archipepe - Thank you so much for reviving the Mi 5s! Have just installed your ROM and it's working great! For what it's worth, I'm using Core NikGApps and the fingerprint sensor does not work. No big deal though, since I'm happy not to use it.
