Question More functions over switches/triggers ? - Xiaomi Poco F3 GT / Redmi K40 Gaming

Hello forum
Do you know if there is a software/app to add/configure more functionalities over switches/triggers ? I wonder if it's possible to use a switch for silence mode like iphones no matter if the button is always open or closed, or using a trigger button to take photos, if you have any info please share
thanks in advance

Do you mean using the existing switches already on your device? (Power/VolUp/VolDn)
You can use Bluetooth clickers or even USB HID devices to do many things.
I use a custom Bluetooth clicker to turn pages on my Android ereader.

Yes i mean using integrated buttons, but not using power/volup/voldn, i mean using the extra buttons on the gaming edition: triggers and switches

Do you still want to retain the buttons for gaming purposes? Or just repurpose them entirely?
You can remap the keys in a keylayout (in /system/etc, in /data/system or a keylayout apk).
You can easily map a key to call up a system app (like camera), but I'm not sure about taking photos.
You could patch a specific app to react to that stuff when it's in the foreground.
I have custom Bluetooth steering wheel controls that switches between apps.
But that only works because it's using non-standard HID that doesn't get snarfed by the foreground app.

should that works to detect if switch is on/off (opened/closed)? i'll try with keylayout app

[Q] Voice Input doesn't work - see pics inside

I have enabled Voice input in Settings --> Language and Keyboard --> Samsung Keypad --> Voice Input.
However, when I press the "Voice Input" button in the keyboard, it shows that Voice Input is disabled in my phone. You can see the screenshot below.
I DID NOT install a custom ROM, all stock. My phone is ROOTED and I have NOT "frozen" any apps that I think is critical for voice input. You can see the list below of ALL the apps I have "frozen" using Titanium Backup.
Can anyone help?

FROZEN APPS LIST
I seem to have this issue as well but I AM on a Custom ROM and am Rooted, etc. Id also like to know how to fix this as I like to use this feature for "Talking to text", etc... Also, I am using SmartKeyboard at the moment but I dont think that has anything to do with it as I have used this keyboard on my SGSII as well (which was also running custom ROM and was rooted) and I never had this issue before.
Anyone?
***EDIT***
Hmmm... I went back into the Samsung Keyboard settings and unchecked then RE checked the voice input option and now it seems to be working...
Well i checked and i have exactly the same issue.. stock rom and rooted, mic crossed out just like OP...
edit: mucked about a bit, and finally read the manual?...doh!.. Once i started voice input by double press of the home button it all started to work..

So you can press the "microphone" icon in the keyboard and it works now? Or are you referring to "double-clicking" the home button?
What I am looking for is the 2nd paragraph above. For example, I want to use voice input to write email WHILE I have the email app open. With my Thunderbolt, I can do so by tapping on the "microphone" icon.
No one use the "Voice recognition" in the Note?

[Q] android-vnc-viewer app on Turbo XT1254

Anyone use android-vnc-viewer app on the Turbo? It connects just fine, but most of the functions of the app require a menu button. Turbo doesn't have a menu button. So I can connect and see screen of host, I can pan and zoom, and I can left-click and right-click by tapping and double-tapping. But I can't send text to host (menu-S) or even disconnect (menu-D) from host. I found that it is possible to disconnect by selecting recent apps button on Turbo and then swiping the vnc-viewer app away. It's lame, but it beats having to shut down the phone. Does anyone know of how to access other functions in the vnc-viewer app without a menu key? I didn't find anything in the app documentation.

If you go into Settings > Display, there's a check box that makes it so that when you long press the recent apps button, it acts like a menu button.

Than you. That was easy. I already had the box checked, but had forgotten about it. Also I didn't realize that the task key is the recent apps button.

Help modifying the hardware buttons

So I am looking to do one simple thing to the phone change the hardware buttons I have been an android user since the vibrant came out and have gotten use to how the buttons were laid out I am having a lot of trouble with the new layout the note 5 has. I am looking for a program like activator on iOS so I can remap them or if someone can give me a hand and remap them I just want the old-style back are to be able to customize them so when I hold the home button it doesn't bring up some Google search it brings up S Voice or even the android search functionality what it brings up now is some newsfeed with a Google search at the top I would also like it for the old back and menu buttons to be the same as well as the task manager assignment to be the same please help
There are a number of ways to do this. Are you rooted?

One way that's pretty simple and is (usually) effective, is to go to /system/usr/keylayout, open Generic.kl with a text editor, and just manually make your changes.
Make sure to backup the original file first, then in your text editor, look for MENU, APP_SWITCH, SEARCH, etc...
Say you want the key that currently opens recent apps to instead be a menu key, you'd find where APP_SWITCH is currently assigned, and replace it with MENU.
After you've made your changes, make sure the file's permissions are set to rw-r--r--, and reboot. I can't guarantee this will work, as I don't own this device, but it's always worked for me on other Samsung devices, and if not, well, that's why you backed up the original file.

App switcher bug & Poorly designed navigation bar?

I've been using the Mate 20 for the past 24hours, being first time Huawei/EMUI user, there are some weird experiences going on.
1. Bug - App switcher:
Open recent apps, I'm not able to switch apps by clicking the partially visible adjacent apps (will go to home screen)
The only way to switch apps is by scrolling to the desired app and make sure it shows at the middle of the screen, then click it.
2. Navigation Bar Experience - EMUI? Android 9? :
The navigation keys' positioning is kinda bad. The icons are too packed at the middle of the screen, instead they should be placed more evenly, and the clickable areas should be widen. (I drawn an image below to better explain this)
I'm not sure this is an EMUI thing or Android Pie thing? How to make a suggestion to Huawei?

I agree, the current nav button setup is stupid.
Hope they fix this issue. Until then I'm using Fluidng.

The nav button is controlled by Huawei, or Android 9?

It's controlled by Huawei, btw it's shifted like that because there's a "rotate" button that appears on the nav bar when you tilt your phone and auto rotate is off, you can see it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tWOp1b-5thQ

I see. But that is rarely used. It shouldn't affect the main navigation keys that are the basic function of a phone.

Google Assistant popping up on Power-Button Long Press

Hey there,
is there a way, to remove the behavior that a long press on the power-button first starts the google assistant instead of getting directly to the "power menu"? I've tried to disable it in the settings which gives me then the option to activate the assistant and unless we gain root, i assume all the bloatware can't be uninstalled
Would another Launcher (https://forum.xda-developers.com/crossdevice-dev/sony-themes-apps/app-xperia-home-10-0-0-40-t3369220) fix it?
Edit:
In the System Settings under "Intelligent Support" (or something like that) there you have "Shortcuts and gestures" there you can disable this behaviour.
Best regards
Seel

You're welcome! Unfortunately you have to press the Power Button really long until the Power-Menu is seen... but this is a first world problem But atleast the Google Assistant isn't nagging around...
Anyone know of a way to remap this functionality? Eg, get holding power button to open the camera instead? I know there's the double-tap volume down shortcut, but that only works when the screen is locked and if no media is playing.
Yes, You can customize Volume button on long press behavior for example with button mapper app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=flar2.homebutton . I'm using this app to remap Netflix button on my Android powered TV's remote control and here on P30 Pro to launch camera app.

On the subject of Google Assistant, can anyone confirm this bug on their device?
Place phone in airplane mode, 'accidentally' activate Google Assistant, screen will stay on forever. I noticed this as I often leave my phone face down and plugged in on the side (it's my second device) and I came down one morning to find the screen lit. I'd obviously activated assistant by catching the power button. Luckily I don't seem to have any screen burn.
No Launchers do not change power button settings
