How To Guide Galaxy Watch 5 LTE Activation Process for Metro by T-Mobile - Samsung Galaxy Watch 5

Thought I would post this info here as it was a little bit tricky to get the mobile plan activated with the Galaxy Wearable app on the phone. This process should work for any Android phone that has the Galaxy Wearable app installed and already connected with the watch.
When initially connecting Galaxy Wearable with the watch it will prompt to set up a mobile plan which you can skip. If you try to, you will see a screen like this:

Don't worry, that message isn't correct. The watch can be set up with Metro.
According to a Reddit post you must have Samsung Pay(Watch Plugin) installed on the phone.
1. I recommend first installing any update(s) to the watch. Be patient with regard to updates. It's best to enable auto-update (Settings -> Software update -> Auto install) and let the watch update itself overnight (while charging). Sometimes you can expedite the update process when, after an update is downloaded and ready to install overnight, you can select the Install Now option. A new watch may have more than one update. Be patient and give it a good day or two if necessary for all updates to apply.
2. Get your IMEI and EID numbers handy. You will need to provide them to the Metro customer support rep. Be aware that because these are very long sequences of numbers, if you make any mistake in providing them to the support rep it will appear as if the watch cannot be activated or is incompatible with Metro.
3. Call Metro support at 1-888-8METRO8 and tell the automated system you want a new plan. When it lists the plans available to add, say "something else" and you'll be connected to a rep.
4. Tell the rep you're adding a BYOD Samsung watch to your plan. Provide the IMEI and when they ask for the SIM use the EID number. These are both printed on the box or available on the watch under Settings -> About watch -> Status info.
5. When the process completes the support rep will assign a new phone number for your watch and you're done with them.
6. Next you need to activate the watch's ESIM in the Galaxy Wearable app on your phone. Click the hamburger menu on the left of the Galaxy Wearable app main screen, then select the gear icon to go into settings.
7. Select "About Galaxy Wearable" and click on the "Galaxy Wearable" text quickly 5 times. This will open a special settings mode.
8. Select "Test ESIM Feature" -> "QR TestMode" and make sure that "Current QR TestMode" is ON.
9. Keep pressing the back arrow to go back to the Galaxy Wearable app main screen, then select Watch Settings -> Mobile plans. From there follow the directions to provide the activation code via QR code.
10. Use the Metro-by-TMobile QR code from this page under the Samsung section. The activation process will complete and you will see this screen:
11. On the Galaxy Wearable app, go to Watch Settings -> Mobile Plans and turn on Metro by T-Mobile
12. After activation you'll see a prompt on the watch to install Metro-specific apps.
13. If you go back into the Galaxy Wearable special settings mode you should see that Current QR TestMode is now off.
14. If you have trouble starting the QR code authentication process in the Galaxy Wearable app, try to initiate the process from the watch via Settings -> Connections -> Mobile Networks. When it asks if the watch uses the same carrier as the phone you can say "no".
According to the rep I spoke with you can add up to five watches to a plan.

Whoa!May your methodbe the one that allows ANY smartwatch to use the eSIM featureon ANY network?

Well SOB now it's there. Yesterday I looked because I had the same issue. They had to send it to me. But thank you for this post, as I got the screen to get to the scan screen.

OMG. I thought I would be using my watch 5 Pro as BT only and I got to the scan screen as well... Now to get the eSIM from my carrier.
it worked. I was able to scan the qr code and add the eSIM from my carrier (OWO CSC region) to my DBT/AUT CSC watch

I have a question would this work between the watch5 and a sony xperia 5 III?

Thanks!!! Last night, got it working solely because of your post. 2 different customer service reps at Metro did not provide steps 7 and 8, so I could never get it working.
I would add step 10b (between steps 10 and 11). On the Galaxy Wearable app, you need to go to Watch Settings-->Mobile Plans--> need to turn on Metro by T-Mobile. After finally activating the service via the QR code, the watch was still not sending/receiving data until I saw that the mobile plan was still OFF.

@Aethera - Thank you so much for this!!!
@Oscar643 - And thank you for the additional step (10b)...

For those having issues turning on the mobile plan after adding an esim from a different carrier in the galaxy watch app. I managed to get around this by turning on the mobile plan through the watch's settings > connections settings.
Phone has esim from carrier 1 and watch has a cheap data + cellular plan from carrier 2. Watch is smart enough to push all sms and notifications from your phone if it can connect to it over the internet, then when you respond or initiate them, it does the same thing in reverse via your phone

IOT/Hidden Menu Samsung Galaxy S5

For some of you who don't know. I've looked up how to find the IOT hidden menu on the S5 and everybody says there isn't one. Well this turns out to be a lie.
For S5 Users (might work on newer samsung phones/smartphones/tables such as S6, S6 Edge+, or the Notes) <---- Comment if it does
To access the IOT/Hidden menu on the S5 follow steps below.
1. Put your phone in airplane mode first
2. Go to Self Activation Setup, should be beside your Developer Options.
3. When at self Activation Setup it should say, "No Service Found" in a box with an "Ok" button.
4. DO NOT PRESS THE OK BUTTON!!!
5. Press outside of the "No Service Found" box and go up to the top right corner to find 3 dots. {...}
6. The first one on the list is PST. Press PST and from there you have accessed the IOT/Hidden Menu.
This could work on all the newer samsung devices. I'm not 100% sure. You might even have to take your simcard out if your phone is already activated and this is not avail...
If you have any suggestions or comments please comment below. Any other device users who have tested this method on their device, please comment for other developers :3

What's the self activation setup? Can you post screenshot?
Warning, If your phone is flashed to a different network DO NOT RESET ANYTHING!
Go to Test Mode Menu to access your network data! It will display anything you need to know about your sim card, network, or phone.
NEVER DO "##RTN#" OR "##SCRTN#" (for flashed phone users only!)
I was only able to access it one time with signal bars. Usually it doesn't allow you to access it at all with "No Service." I luckily found two ways how to access the IOT Hidden Menu. This method is guaranteed the best way to access the IOT Hidden Menu.
I had to break my networks limiter in order to access it the first time. It then broke my phone's reception for roaming. It was picking up the wrong frequency. From there I reverted and tested in Airplane to completely remove the signal since I had no signal while phone was in roaming.
Phones with constant R at the Signal Bar means the phone is set to the wrong frequency. A PRL update will not fix this issue. Usually a device inside the phone is manually disabled or a faulty phone radio transmitter. IT DOES NOT ALWAYS MEAN ITS A BAD RADIO TRANSMITTER! If you experience this problem nothing will help your phone besides enabling your FTM Radio.
FTM = Frequency Transmitter Monitor
IF SOMEONE COULD TRY THIS ON NEWER GALAXY MODELS TO CONFIRM IT WORKS THAT'D BE GREAT!

I'll be able to post a few more pictures about how the IOT Menu is setup in a few days. Those are some of the older ones I have. I could do step by step of how to access it. If you have any of the newer devices could you try it on them and confirm if it works?

Does it display the current data of the phone, like all of the network information. The only way you can access that kind of data is from the IOT Menu. This is literally the best way to figure out what is wrong with a phone and how to fix the problem with the phone. Your phone doesn't need to be ROOTED. It's to display which micro device could have been damaged or tell if it is unlocked properly to support any SIM CARD or Network.
- Diagnosing a device they're trying to fix (developers)
- Purchasing a product.
- Selling a product.
I haven't seen a single post on the IOT Hidden menu for newer models. It's because they changed the method and made it "HIDDEN."
The next time I see or hear a developer say there isn't an IOT Menu on the S5, or they removed them after the S4 models... *SMACK* *SMACK* (palmed)

Activate this device
Goto test mode menu to read the data capability on your device, it should look like this.
Navigate through protocol state to figure out if youre device is unlocked. Usually it will be displayed under sim data, SIMLOCK= NO .
If your device isnt then its unlocked. Also using unique simcards like csim cards you have to have certain protocols edited. Not in which i am inquired to explain. This is for developers who understand the protocols.
Self activation setup
Is there another option for this? My S5 doesn't have the self activation setup. .
So basically what I'm getting from all the above chit chat, is that the S5 does have an IOT Hidden menu. But there's a process necessary to access it, starting with locating the "Ativate this Device" icon which should be located next to the "Developer Options" icon... Yet as I look next to the "Developer Options" I'm only able to see the "About Device" option which might possibly have been explained in some of the last few posts via text and pics (screenshots), however the case may be, I'm still unable to access the IOT hidden menus due to the lack of specific guidence (step-step) provided in the above forums,
i.e. person owns and operates a T-Mobile S5
Model#- SG-900T
Build#- MMB29M.G900TUVU1GQC2
Android Version- 6.0.1.
Service provider/status- "FAMILY MOBILE"(thru walmart on the T-mobile network) status is active
I'm sure I've most likely misread or misunderstood something previously discussed and will undoubtedly re-read it, but so as to save me from the hastle, any idea's/tips or tricks provided to accomplish this confusing dilemma of mine would be greatly appreciated....

Problem with "Calling Setup"

I'd like to use the watch for phone calls. When I've tried it in the past I can answer the call but can't hear the caller. I don't know if they can hear me.
So, I went into the app drawer on the watch and tapped on "Calling Setup" thinking that's where I control everything. But, when I tap on it my watch shows me a screen that says, "Voice Calling Info. To proceed with calling setup, please go to System Updates to install the latest software."
Alas, when I tap on "OK" it takes me to system updates and then I get the check mark stating that my phone is up to date.
How do I use the watch to talk on calls? Is Calling Setup not the place to go?
I don't remember any app named Calling Setup?
All I need to do was:
- Go to Settings on watch
- Enter Bluetooth menu
- Turn ON option: Play phone audio on watch
- On your phone, make sure your paired bluetooth profile allow Phone Audio & Contact Sharing
Then to call someone, I think you have to setup in your phone, Favorites Contact.
Go to Contact app on your phone, find Favorites group, then add people.
I think Android Watch will only sync Favorites and maybe Recent/Frequent Contact.
To call from your watch, wake your watch first then swipe left 2 times, your contacts will be there.
Just tap it then the number to call.
Harlin, thanks that worked.

I just bought zenwatch 3 and am using it with my iphone. I dont see the call feature for iphone. Will i get that feature in android wear 2.0?

The iPhone is not fully compatible with any android wear watch.
It has very limited functions if you use the zenwatch on iPhone.
To get full functionality on android wear watches you
need to sync it with most any late model android phone.
Have a great day!
Android Wear 2.0 is suppose to be much better supported on the iPhone. Perhaps just wait for the update and try it again.

Sprint Hotspot Mod Working!!!

I just received my Note 9 and have been playing around with things. After doing a little research and piecing together a couple of different posts, I can confirm that I have Sprint Hotspot working. The steps are as follows:
1. Download Shortcut Master Lite from the Play Store.
2. Open Dialer
3. Dial ##brand# (##27263#)
4. Say yes/accept everything - phone reboots
5. Open Shortcut Master Lite and select the Menu (three vertical dots in the upper right).
6. Select App Explorer, and then All Apps
7. Navigate (scroll down) to com.test.LTEfunctionality and select.
8. Select the first item labled "LTEFunctionalityTest" and select launch.
9. Scroll down to LTE APN Setting and select.
10. Select APN2 LTE/EHRPD internet
11. Scroll down to APN type and select.
12. Add "DUN" to the setting (it should read "default, mms,DUN") without quotations. Also make sure there is no space between the comma and DUN.
13. Select Menu and save your settings
14. Reboot
Congratulations, your device now has Sprint Native Hotspot!
Update : You must reapply if you update profile!
Disable automatic updates so that profile updates do not remove!
Assuming you got the unlocked version?

Nope, I have the Sprint version. Ordered directly through Sprint
Didnt work for me. Anything else you tried that might of made it worked for you?
edit: wth? So earlier I was messing with another method through adb shell and I was afraid maybe I had messed something up so I wanted to undo it all. The guide said to use this commands
Code:
settings put global tether_dun_required 1
Code:
settings put global tether_dun_apn null
then I removed the DUN from apn setting on shortcut master and now the hotspot works? makes no sense but I'll take it lol
Edit 2: Apparently my plan comes with 10gb of hotspot which is why it was working after removing all custom settings. I just went past the 10gb and it has now slowed down to 2g speeds (text from sprint)

Awesome!
Worked perfect for me. Older plan and do not pay for hotspot.
So it seems to only work for people with no hotspot plan then. Can any of you guys with it working enable it and then dial ##33284# and look under active apn connections and see what comes up? You should hide your ip tho if you post a screenshot. Mainly looking at what is under Active APN 1 and 2

With mine turned on and my laptop connected it says "There are no Active APN Connections"
I've been messing around with this for the last couple of days and I figured I would post here everything I have tried and my findings in case someone with more knoledge in this wants to try and figure out a working fix
I had an s8+ previous to this note 9 that had hotspot enable by this two adb shell commands
Code:
settings put global tether_dun_required 0
Code:
settings put global tether_dun_apn "APNDUN,n.ispsn,,,,,,http://mms.sprintpcs.com,68.28.31.7,80,310,120,,default,dun,mms,supl"
while the hotspot is on, I dialed ##DEBUG# and can see TWO separate active APN connections to n.ispsn and I have internet on my phone and my laptop that is connected to the hotspot.
Now on the note 9, I tried those exact commands and got "couldn't connect to APN" followed by hotspot not enabled in account. Looking a bit closer I noticed that through Shortcut Master edit thing, the note 9 only has one APN instead of the two that all other galaxy phones have had to this point. Instead of
Code:
APN2 LTE Internet
&
Code:
APN2 EHRPD Internet
there is now only one called
Code:
APN2 LTE|EHRPD Internet
. This also has x.ispsn instead of n.ispsn like on the previous galaxy devices so it seem the are now using Sprints new APN. I swapped those in the command above and entered this on adb shell
Code:
settings put global tether_dun_apn "APNDUN,x.ispsn,,,,,,http://mms.sprintpcs.com,68.28.31.7,80,310,120,,default,dun,mms,supl"
This allowed me to enable hotspot but after connecting my laptop to it I got no internet. I checked again under ##DEBUG# and Active APN Connections shows just one Active APN to x.ispns. I tried different ways of enabling the hotspot including date off->hotspot on->data on. data off->hotspot on->connect laptop->data on. But still no internet. It seems that the hotspot is not setting up a connection to the APN x.ispns at all which is why I get no internet.
In the mean time, the app EasyTether Pro does work to set up a wired connection to a PC so that's what I'll be using until a fix is found for this. Sorry for long post lol

settings put global tether_dun_apn "APNDUN,n.ispsn,,,,,,http://mms.sprintpcs.com,68.28.31.7,80,310,120,,default,dun,mms,supl"
while the hotspot is on, I dialed ##DEBUG# and can see TWO separate active APN connections to n.ispsn and I have internet on my phone and my laptop that is connected to the hotspot.

I am sorry you are having so many problems. Are you on an unlocked version? Mine is Sprint branded bought directly from Sprint. This may be the difference. I came over from the Pixel XL and the steps there involved editing the build.prop file and an ADB command similar to your steps.

Yeah so is mine. I can't think of why it would work with someone but not others. Can you check on shortcut master again to see if you have n.ispsns or x.ispns. Also what plan do you have with sprint

List of Features that are Confirmed NOT AVAILABLE in North America

Here are a few that I've seen demos on but could not get to work on my North American (Rogers) Huawei Mate20 Pro. Publish other features confirmed not working.
Build Number: 9.0.0.146(C792E15R1P17)
- Hivision. This feature covers the missing "eye" logo from the camera app, dragging up from the bottom corner of the screen to launch Hivoice and Hivision, the missing "eye" beside the search bar found after dragging down (in Gesture mode) to open the device search and the two finger press action to identify "on screen" objects. Hivision not available was
- Magazine Unlock: The ability to use and configure the Magazine Unlock features on the phone. you should be able to select through a list of feeds that get displayed in your personal "Magazine". The feature is supposed to be available under: Settings > Security & privacy > Screen lock & passwords > Lock screen style, and select the default Magazine unlock style.
- 3D Live Maker - You may be able to find this in the Google Play store. I did. It's called "3D Live Maker" - developer contact is [email protected]

Quote from Huawei Support Chat:
Me: the phone help system suggest that I can use Hivision to identify items on my phone's display, but when I try the feature (by two finger pressing on a website for example, as described, I get a system message saying "Install HiVision to access this service"
Support: Yes, I would like to share with you that some features such as this one are not available in North America.
Me: What about the AI Google Lens like feature where I can take a photo and identify what that is in that photo? Like types of food and what not?
Support: Yes, actually this is the same feature, from HiVision.
Me: So Hivision is not available in north america at all?
Support: As of yet, we do not have these feature available.

Magazine Unlock.
source huawei.ca online support chat:
Quote from Huawei Support Chat:
Me: I was looking for information on how I can configure the Magazine Unlock features of my new phone. I saw a video online that suggested I should be able to click on Setting -> Home Screen & Wallpaper from there I should be able to see a screen like this one:

"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
however, what I see is this one:
as you can see, I don't have the "magazine unlock " button
Support: Please go to the main Settings menu screen, at the top, on the Search bar, input Magazine, and tell me the options you see.
Me: None. Nothing comes up when I input Magazine.
Support: After double checking this situation, if you could not find the option through the steps previously mentioned this will mean that function is not available on your phone yet.
But do not worry, at the moment there is an update for the Mate 20 Pro that will arrive Over The Air by the end of this month, that will help us to add some features. My kindly suggestion for you is to wait for this update to arrive and install it on your device, in order to check this feature. Also, please allow me to invite you to visit our consumer website, we have manuals, FAQ and other information that can be helpful for you: https://consumer.huawei.com/ca/support/
Me: I actually was on that site before coming to support. I downloaded the manual but it did not have any reference to Hivision, or magazine unlock, while all of the information on the rest of the internet does would you happen to have a list of features that are not available in the north american version of the phone?
Support: My kindly suggestion for you is to visit our consumer website, we have manuals, FAQ and other information that can be helpful for you
Me: Do you have a list of features that the end of month update will be bringing?
Support: Currently there is no information about the contents of this update, I kindly suggest you to contact us back once you receive it, so you are certain that we have all the information about it.

Lol.. sec. I'll post a screen shot of cdn site when I get back to desk
HiVision only works on the Chinese model. I haven't read any official word about whether it will be available on other models.. It seems to be linked to Huawei's Chinese alternative to Google Assistant.
I have Hivision here on the Australian LYA L09 Single Sim.
Have the eye top left of camera in photo mode. Also 2 finger hold down on screen for search in website and other applications.

So from the Huawei Canada site:
www.huawei.ca
click Phones and more, this should take you to the consumer site consumer.huawei.com/ca/support
Click Support
Then you'll see a contact us button lower right corner of the screen, click on that
should launch support options, click on online chat
fill in information and you should get an attendant. If not, try back later. One popped up really quick for me during business hours.

Hola
My appreciation mate for going through this. Interesting that I don't see this widget in my browser. I must have some security feature turned on or similar that may be blocking this. I will look into this tomorrow. Again THANK YOU very much! :highfive:
It has been explained to the OP on several occasions that the 'Magazine Unlock' feature is fully implemented and working - just not in the settings themselves. You go to 'themes', and then 'me', and then 'cutomize', and you are free to choose 'Magazine Unlock' as your style of lockscreen. You don't need to even have a Huawei ID in order to do this. To actually customize the Magazine Unlock, you do it from the lockscreen itself. It all works, and it is as perfectly useless and horrible as one could imagine. Can someone please tell me what the point of having a lockscreen at all it? I pick up my phone, and it unlocks. WHY would I want to flip around to various backgrounds, or fudge my way through clunky and broken notifications, or do anything else from the lockscreen?

It has never been accurately explained - and, with all due respect, you are posting more rubbish (ie your last inaccurate post saying Hivision was Chinise fw only). You are confused. You are customizing the lock screen image for Magazine Unlock within the Theme, not the Magazine Unlock functionality. You are modifying a THEME configurable customization, not the Magazine Lock feeds. As quoted from Huawei - the feature is not available in the North American software load. You will not get a hit if you launch settings, type in Magazine into the search bar, AND have a North American software load.. Could someone who has a non-N/A version of the phone

While this isn't the thread to be posting a question like that, I'll entertain you, just this one time. Not everyone wants their phone to unlock immediately after looking at it, they may have personal, confidential or sensitive information behind the lock screen. This is precisely why there is an additional configurable "slide to unlock" after facial recognition. You have chosen to disable it, but I believe it's enabled by default - to each his own.
I'm not sure if you have been personally offended somewhere along the way or not, but i'd appreciate it if you would stop following me around, unless, of course, the unlikely event occurs where you are able to post some accurate or helpful information.

Quick question. Just to make sure I understand. By Magazine unlock do you mean the ability to have a different lock screen every time you wake up your phone or do you mean something else?

Yes - however the feed selection option is missing. Currently you can only select images from downloaded themes
The missing functionality is the ability to select/configure new feed streams.

Hivision?
Any updates on HiVision in Canada?
I'm with Telus and on 9.0.0.127. No HiVision yet.
Is there a way to install it manually?
I downloaded to the global 171 firmware from my Optus Australian firmware and lost all the magazine lock functionality as well.. it's technically still there but the images and categories that you could change before are gone.. had to aslo download some Huawei apps. Huawei ID up the top in settings is missing as well . Strange... Maybe because this firmware isn't technically really for public yet...

The very last thing anyone needs is for us to get into a pissing match about this. I just want to say that I have never said anything about Hi-Vision, so direct that particular witch hunt elsewhere. As for the Magazine Unlock, uhhh... What is your continued argument on this subject? It works, perhaps not in the way the the brochure promised you, but it works and the irony is I left it enabled and now I love it. The pictures featured are incredible, and the real power of it is that you could give your phone to someone else and they could do a variety of things with your phone without being able to unlock it. They can obviously take pictures, they can set alarms or timers, they can use a calculator, they can record audio, and they can use the flashlight. The ability to 'customize' it comes in the form of adding pictures to the gallery it uses to rotate through.
This phone is pretty new, so by all means contact Huawei and plead the case for Hi-Vision to be unlocked here in North America, but... So far, we have received timely updates via OTA, and we have even been given stuff like the crude beta implementation of IR scanning, which I hope they develop further. I'm still willing to give them the benefit of the doubt, either way I doubt you will force an official answer out of them. A year from now, if we still don't have Hi-Vision we can talk about abducting the children of their CEO out of an airport to hold as hostage... Er, wait never mind.

Sorting contacts by surname / last name

Hi,
Stupid request, is there anyway to sort contacts by last name ? Can't seem to find an option for it on the default app and I installed Google Dialer / Contacts and they don't want to do it either. They show by surname first, but still sort by first name ...
It's driving me nuts.
Thanks

It seems the march update removed sorting options from contacts. I have the same proble as Theberge43 in 2 S10s with different CSCs.

I had the same issue before the update.
I think this is a regional variation. I have an S10 sourced from Hong Kong and I have checked with the local Samsung support desk and they say sorting contacts by last name is not an option.

I have a dual-sim S10+ (G9750) and I have the same issue — the option to sort contacts is physically removed from Samsung's contacts app. Moreover, even when using Google's own contacts app that still has the option to sort by last name, there is no effect — whichever sorting option you choose, it still sorts all contacts by first name.
Now, I thought I could easily solve the issue by flashing some other regional ROM, but it turns out that dual-sim options in China and Hong Kong (G9750 vs G975FD) actually come in Snapdragon variant, as opposed to dual-sim Exynos variants in Europe or elsewhere. As much as I prefer Snapdragon variant, I now cannot flash any stock rom for Exynos dual-sim variants, thus being stuck with first name only sorting for contacts.
I cannot fathom why would anyone remove such an option, especially for international versions of a flagship phone.
I have found a way to change that. Go to Settings - Apps - Contacts, then hit the "gear" button in the upper right corner and there you can find "sort by" and "show first".
No it doesn't work on a HK region based s10, the option is not there ?

Nor is there an app I can find that sorts the phone's contacts.
Please help.

Are there no stock USA roms for the Snapdragon ? G9880 owner.
I am in the USA
I use Google Contacts. I do not use Samsung apps. They are garbage.
I have my S10+ and s S20 Ultra.
So, to further complicate the issue,
if I setup my contacts correctly according to Google contacts on my computer, putting the correct info into the correct blank spaces.... I get last name first and company names in alphabetical order but ALL of my Doctors are listed under the letter D "Dr. ______ , _________"
But on My S10 they all listed properly including Doctors in alphabetical order last name first.
As Expected, My S20 Ultra can not sort anything. Its first name or prefix first. I was hoping the recent upgrades to Android 11 or 12 would fix this. The updates did nothing.
So, to find and be able to search for any contact on three different platforms I now have resorted to making redundant contacts.
In google contacts:
1. I have a correct list, putting the correct info into the correct blank spaces
2, I have the same contacts also listed backwards, putting the last name in the first name slot and vice versa.
3. I abuse the File AS slot depending on the type of contact for Doctors I list "Last, Dr. First - Type of doctor." For personal names I do not use the Save as slot, For businesses. I put the familiar version of the company name in the Save As slot and the true company name on the "Company” slot.
4. Every contact must have at least one nonidentical duplicate/ Different enough so the Auto merge function, which I HATE, does not recognize similar contacts. This is done with adding spaces and carriage returns in the middle of Names, phone numbers, email addresses etc.
I do end up with nearly triple the contacts but I can always find and in needed search for what I need.
Plus, Google is well known to auto merge or delete contacts. It happens to me a lot. But since my contacts are redundant, they never delete both or all three versions of any one contact.
I also shut off the auto sync and only add new contacts when I am on my computer. Google differentiates a contact entered on a cellphone from one entered on a computer.
Contacts entered on a cellphone may only be local and may not be shared with other phones you own. But contacts entered on a computer ARE shared with all phones on an account.
Nope this helps.
@mrgcav I'm not sure if you're asking a question or not, or what your question is. But, I wanted to point out that I use the Google phone app (which includes the contacts within it). In there, you can change the settings (3 dots menu) and set the display options to do first/last or last/first as you desire.
I would agree that having this to deal with would be annoyed with, but I find I just search for what I want, and that eliminates most of my issues with using it. Searching finds the name first or last without issue, so it makes it much faster and easier to find. I never scroll to find contact names... I have far too many (my cell is actually running my company as well, so I have 2 numbers (cell + google voice work number) and contacts in both sides, and this searches through both accounts without issue. If I really wanted, I can find business-only contacts by going to the GV app and searching there, too... point is, I don't scroll there either.
If you have read all my posts then you know my problem. My most recent reply yesterday was my workaround solution of the problem.
I m glad to heat you have something that works for you. But in my case it does not apply.
Because my phone is different than yours. You probably have a locked corporate carrier trackable phone. The data on most phones is not private and google in their user agreement says they have a right to copy any data you have on your phone. Google will share with Police and government agencies and sell your data. to anyone.
I have unlocked Samsung untrackable (nearly) phones. Google cannot copy my data unless I let them. My phone, My data. Google is always asking me for access to my media and files on my phones. It is annoying. Google apps will turn themselves on and off at will even if disabled.
Example: I do not use google Translate. I used it once and deleted it. It reappeared and I have not been abel to delete it since. I have it "Disabled" but it runs in the background trying to collect data anyway.
Anyway.
Under the three dots I do not have sorting functions as I mentioned previously, Nor does sorting solve the Sir name prefix problem such as "Dr."
I search as well but before using my workaround the search would not find all instances fo what I queried.
Then there is the fact that google deleted contacts. Which I also solved.
So maybe I need to explain it better, assuming you read it thoroughly.
You can think you're not being tracked, but if you're using the internet in any way, you can be tracked, period. I'm not saying your efforts aren't worthwhile, but I don't think just installing/disabling/removing apps will get you where you want to be (you need to have a far deeper control of the OS to get there). Regardless, feel free to carry on with your intentions... good luck.
Anyway, I think you're still asking for a way to sort contacts. Assuming that's the case, my point is that many apps can offer that functionality, so you should be able to find one that meets your needs. I recall I had used one in the past called DialerOne and that one seemed to have lots of options like the ability to sort by first or last name. I simply used the Google phone app as an example, really.
I agree, I'm not fully understanding what you're looking to accomplish with this particular thread. I would like to help, so if you want to explain, I'm happy to continue to try.
