Question Any cool mod or tweak for this device? - Moto G42

I got one of these for free as a gift. It's a pretty decent phone overall, considering I didn't even pay for it. Screen is especially very good.
Anyway, it seems there is no development whatsoever for this phone, and almost no info anywhere on it.
Has anyone found out any cool mod or exploit or tweak for this one? Can you install any app from its more expensive Moto brothers? Can it even be rooted?

The best rooting method is by magisk

CIao possiedo g42 come posso sbloccare bootloadet e root mi potete aiutare ?

Hi, There is no Custom Room for this Device?

WP8 custom roms for older devices

Hello ,
Does anyone know that Is it possible to cook WP8 roms for older devices? I know what Microsoft said about it but maybe some people can o it ...
I've did some digging about it , there are some points to consider :
In hardware view :
* compatibility of the Qualcomm Snapdragon S1 (First Generation) and S4 (Forth Generation)
The S1 Chipsets are 65 nm and the S4's are 29 nm
Dual core architecture of S4
There are some newer technologies like LTE that older chipsets doesn't support...
* Driver compatibility for OS with old hardwares...
In software view:
* hacking the OS and reaching source code for cook
WP8 have bit-locker encryption (Mobile Version) and it's so hard to break ...
if anyone know anything else about it or right now he/she is jailbreaking the OS please let us know ... thanks
I highly doubt it. The operating system is built to run on only that chip set. That's why most wp7 phones had the same CPUs and why most wp8 phones have very similar CPUs. I don't think Microsoft is lying to us about this one.

I really hope so. I don't feel like upgrading my HTC Titan, the hardware is fine but WP 7.5/7.8 is garbage.
Non so se potrebbe servire a qualcosa, ma vi allego uno screenshot che ho fatto con il mio lumia 620 quando, scaricando HERE drive+ , durante l'installazione mi è uscito questo codice per pochi secondi. :fingers-crossed:

To address the actual image... that's a weird glitch, but not a big deal. We already know where apps get installed to (you can actually query an app's install path from within the app).

nothing is impossible, it just require hard work. if d wp8 official rom can be compressed to a size to be able to load on old devices, den it can work. like i said it requires hard work.
I can post with a fair amount of certainty that those of us who actually do anything in WP8, has no interest in doing so.
I'd go bother WP7 devs, because they have the old WP7 hardware and might have a slight interest in putting WP8. Those that did set it aside long ago due to the difficulty of booting it. Now that we have figured out the ROMs, there might be a way to do it, but I'm not sure how it would interface with the cellular settings, and the interest has faded even further.
Most of the WP8 people who post here are Android converts or just new to the platform in general, but that's me making generalizations of something that could be completely different.
WP8 supports quad-cores and apps made for it would cry on devices with 2010 specs, so....
It might happen, but I certainly have no interest in using it on my HTC Trophy.

Should I root my Moto G 2nd Gen??

As the title says should I root my moto g?
I am not sure because I got this device a month ago and it is working fine, but I am missing my root apps and ****, and I am worried about the warranty, can I get it back after I root.
I am on dual Sim model 1098
Thank you[emoji5]
Your warranty will be void if you unlock bootloader, no matter you root your phone or not.
for now there is no exploit to root phone w/o unlocking bootloader so if you want to root you have to unlock bootloader which will void warranty
I'm going to wait until the "big" update before unlock, root because they have not released the kernel source yet. there's no custom Roms yet either.
no whiners

One reason to root your phone is to get Greenified and Lion Tamer installed. These two apps combined help get my battery from lasting most of the day to a full day. And I have a 4 hours of screen on time, with hard use.

Wow really???
Turn I can think of rooting, but losing my warranty would be a big loss...
I have had my phone for about three weeks now and have yet to find a reason that I cannot live without rooting. It runs great, and my battery life is more than sufficient. To void my warranty for very little gan just doesn't make sense to me.
Maybe when there are some decent "Lollipop" custom ROM's I may consider it again. But that will be several months down the road. And by then I will be out of warranty.
Considering that the Kernel Source for the X 2nd Gen just dropped on Github and that the G 2nd Gen will be next, I say why not
I'm very anxious to see what devs will do with the Sources
-------------------------
I rooted my phone to get screen casting working on my chromecast !! Moto G2 does not support screen casting on chromecast officially !

I hope they do it asap and the devs will start there work....
Trying to make the Moto G (2nd) act like it's a Moto X is a waste of effort . (IMHO)
It like putting dual exhaust and chrome headers on a "Rice Rocket".
It's just a great little old cheap phone.
I have a low budget phone and am buying a excellent tablet such as the Nexus 9.

What is the problem with rooting the phone and putting a custom ROM on it?
It's not about "pimping" it out, I want features that i'm missing from my Nexus 4 which are purely software and that can not be adequately replicated with crap like Xposed.
Also, I consider Xposed malware as it is essentially a vulnerability (yes, I know, it depends on the Module, but still).

I should of clarified my position better.
The Moto G is the first phone that I haven't rooted.... (yet)
However you can be sure when I get my Nexus 9 I'll be screwing around with all the rom's and features as their made available.

Ah, I see
No harm done then
sent from my Moto G 2nd Gen
I didn't rooted mine yet, but there's a few reasons for me to root:
Ads are anoying as fu*k;
Xposed framework for me is essential;
And a bunch of other apps that i need root to use. I'm just waiting the lollipop to root
Moto G is the first phone I didn´t root right at the start til now and because of this I must say that I never ever thought that there are so many ads! I´t s a headache, all that crap.
So I consider to root just for Adaway. Ok,Titanium and some other apps are not bad to have too.
But is it better to wait until lollipop? Returning to stock seems not to be that easy. For me it´s a hard decision.

Really ads are a fuc*king headache, I have been looking for some way to disable ads without root, but there isn't a way, sadly this is one of the things I would root for...

No one has created it yet alot of us are paying for the bootloader unlock since LG isn't supporting any other models except for the EU one. And the same trick that worked for the V30 isn't working for the V40 so mas bootloader unlock isn't possible at the moment....now we have a few guys working on LOS right now but they are still working so please be patient

Root? Why?

I've been a rootoholic since the first HTC Desire (2010) and I've been lovin to improve every smartphone throughout those years. I believe that the reason for root have literally died. Since 2010, the interest in rooting and developing roms for phones that really needed it, vanished more and more for every year. The latest 4 - 5 years, developers have mostly only been interested in rooting flagships? People root for different reasons, privacy, debloating, theming, speed or all. In my opinion, the whole developing community have forgotten the real mission!
"Develope, root and improve phones that really needs it!" (mid range and low budget phones)
And look now!? To unlock a bootloader (on a phone that's perfect without it) we're suppose to pay for it? Not even an option to donate, like back in the days? No offense to you, the devs, this is probably just part of Xda evolution, and I need to catch up with reality. Just wondering what this community will look like in 2 - 5 years?

V40 has it all!
And with the option to "uninstall" bloatware via adb, what's the point?
Well, some user's love to flash custom kernel while using the stock rom. Just like me

I did too But to improve!?
Not much to improve anymore...
I understand what you mean. But with a custom kernel everything that's good about this phone would only get better. Also, having stock Android on this hardware would be awesome.

For me yes, specially when it comes to speed and you can tweak also the display settings to get rid of the screen burn.
V4A and kernel tweeks
Wondering
how much better can a phone like this get?
I mean, cpu speed is already fantastic, and sound is extremely high quality (Neutron)!
Is there anywhere I can read about this? Progress and experience so far. How big was the difference? And so on...
I could imagine to underclock and disable some features I never use, to save battery...

We disabled a few of the throttling stuff that LG put in the software and it's way faster now and along with FDE.AI Magisk Module the battery is also lasting a bit longer.
Nice!
I'm on Sprint!
Will they detect my root?
Fully functional modem/signal?
Will I miss out on any functions after debloating all sprint stuff?
Can I reverse, go back to the original rom?

Your original rom would be on Slot B....but you would still have the original rom on Slot A unless you update to US unlocked Pie....
Tempted!
Root
Being an old rootoholic, I've kind of convinced myself it's not really necessary anymore, especially on a phone like this. But after digging into the threads about it, I've reconsidered...
So, after some resistance, I'm tempted to unlock bootloader and root
Just a few questions:
Slot A and B? Is it possible/complicated to activate "the other" slot (dual boot), or is it just there for backup and update?
Is com.lge.rctprovider and other spy and spam apps still there?
How exactly is the remote screen thing done? Do I need to install something, and how do you pay the fee?
Will it be possible to remap the assistant button?
If I'm not wrong, Qualcomm just block specific bands on carrier's requests, meaning that all bands exist in the chip. So I wonder, can this be unlocked?
How is the signal/reception on Sprint? Will all necessary bands still be there and fully functional?
Thanks!

After so many years with these phones, I've learnt that we would rather buy an old flagship but not a new mid-low range
Even u arent rooting it, flagship is usually much better as that's what your manufacture could do best at that time. Mid-low range was intended to be half-assed
Root is useful to install AdAway and Titanium Backup, even if staying with stock ROM.
Blockada without root sounds like it is not as effective as AdAway.
Ti Backup enables reverting to prior saved version of app when a newer version is faulty or inferior (happens a lot). Also debloating by freezing or uninstalling, not sure an ADB method offers all the options of Ti to debloat.
If V40 still has no way to unlock bootloader and root, without the Octoplus thing, I guess I'm stuck with V30+, which apparently means the dwindling stock of aging V30+ from dicey sellers on eBay etc., including lots of 1+ year old LS998 crossflashed to US998 and sold as "new". Li-Ion phone batteries have only a 2-3 year life....
...
There's currently no way to bootloader unlock the V40 (I have the US non carrier "unlocked" version). Guy on Telegram is ignoring my message. Therefore, root does not appear to be an option.

Well people root so they can remove throttle from manufacturer nd to tweak the phone so it can be at its best for the current cpu/gpu along with custom roms. Root is not needed nowadays except for those because better processors that you wont really need root for normal to performance usage. Well thts my oppinion for the op
The question should be why not to root. The answers to that are far less. Than why to root. Because of the endless possibilities

General ROM

Device rom is very pathetic.Seriously, having lag and i hate google bloatwares.
You need to give it some time as this is the initial build for this device. Xiaomi will optimize the ROM for this device eventually to an extend. But you will never get the same level of smoothness as a clean AOSP rom. Since it's a cheap Xiaomi device, you will most probably get a lot of popular custom ROMs quite soon. So, I would say, wait for sometime.
lag? I didnt notice any problems so far.
and its pretty easy to remove unwanted apps/bloatware.
