[SOLVED] "Review app with full device access" about the same app that I've dismissed multiple times already - Google Pixel 5 Questions & Answers

The notifications are given by "Permission reminders - Permission controller" and cannot be switched off (the toggle is greyed out).
Every day, I get a notification about the same apps that I've already dismissed and it's getting very annoying now.
I know it's a security feature and android has to cater for the "dumbest" user but I know what apps I have installed and I trust them.
Some examples are Nova Launcher, Toast Source and Fingerprint Swipes.
Of course Nova launcher needs full device access. Otherwise how is it gonna show notification badges or allow gesture control.
Unfortunately, it's android 13 and toast notifications still have free reign over the device and is not captured in notification history. Some apps still use toast notifications and some are very badly coded that it spams it. It's sometimes difficult to pinpoint which app is giving toast notifications so I use Toast Source, a super useful app that will tell me which app is giving toast notifications. So of course this app needs full device access because it needs to be able to read notifications.
Fingerprint Swipes allows remapping the fingerprint sensor to do different actions on swipe down or up. It even allows swiping sideways for more actions. Of course this needs full device access to do these actions.
Every day, my device tells me "Nova as full device access. Do you want to review permissions?", "Toast Source as full device access. Do you want to review permissions?", "Fingerprint Swipes has full device access. Do you want to review permissions?" and this is getting very old very quickly and extremely annoying.
Is there a way to disable these notifications?
SOLVED: 3rd party app called TidyPanel Notification Blocker.
Possible solution 2: Settings > Apps > Special app access > Usage access > 3dots show system > Permission controller > Slide to off

long-press that notification, then "turn off notifications", switch off "permission reminders", apply? wasn’t greyed out here:

at least that’s how i did/tried the same a few days ago. see screenshot. no reminders since then, fingers crossed.

Hmm I haven't thought of doing it that way. I have a habit of pressing the gear icon and turning it off from there. I'll try your method next time it pops up (probably soon lol). Thanks

Great idea. Should've done that ages ago. Up there now.

I had the same problem on my Pixel 5, caused by using the Dashlane app. I may have found a way to disable the daily hassle notification without use of a 3rd party app.
Settings > Notifications > App Settings > Change drop-down from Most Recent to All Apps > tap 3 dots in upper right and change to "Show System" > Scroll way down to (or search for) "Permission Controller."
There's a slider there that allows you to turn off all notifications from the Permission Controller, but based on what I've found out about what it does, it may not be a good idea to turn them off completely. However, if instead of turning off the slider, you just tap on the words "Permission Controller" you get shown a few more options.
I didn't disable all notifications, but the second item under "Other" said Permission Reminders (about 1 notification per day.) I disabled that as well as the item below it (Allow notification dot) and so far the problem seems to be solved.

Just a couple of little "complaints" about the phone.

First let me apologize if this is not the correct location on the forum to post this. I by am no means looking to bash the phone just had some questions that maybe some people may be able to help me with. I understand this is not Touchwiz so it is different, and these are very minor issues nothing that I could not learn to adjust to.
1) Notification drop down. Though I do like the "gesture" style notification drop down. Before I could use the finger print scanner to drop down to notification tab is there another shortcut way to make this happen similar to the finger print way on the S8+? I may be able to do in in Nova but will need to mess with it to figure it out.
2) Brightness bar. Does anyone know how to get the brightness bar to possible show up in the notification without it being pulled down all the way?
3) Home button. I can't seem to find a way to press the home button when in a full screen game app. Meaning prior I was able to press the location and then it would still work. Now I have to swipe up to show the nav bar and then press it.
4)LTE+ This is one isn't a complaint just a question about since I got the unlocked instead of Verizon it shows LTE+ vs 4G doing a quick search it seems to be ok just wanted some clarification.
Other then those few things I noticed over all I am happy the phone is a lot quick and better then my previous. Though at the same time nothing super new to really "wow" me I was already more then happy with the S8+ and the S10+ is a very good evolution. The hole punch is really not as bad as some others may have feared. The finger print does take a little time to get used to but seems to work about 85% success mostly do to slightly off placement. Having the extra cameras is great and so far a nice upgrade from my S8+. Again not really complaining but maybe there is toggle that I may have missed that could have fixed my little issues.
1. Use the swipe down gesture in nova launcher to pull it down, not as nice as FP sensor gesture i know :/
2. You can do this by checking the setting for 'Show Control on Top' when you expand the brightness control
3. If you are using the gestures for navigation you would swipe from where the home button would be if it were held in portrait, so typically on the right when gaming. just play with it.

Thanks, I actually used an an BX actions to remap the button on my S8+ decided to pay for the full feature and now I mapped it to drop down notifications so thats all set. Thanks found the control option by clicking on the arrow. As for my third the more I use both pbones it might be good to swipe up for the buttom. No more accidental presses when in full screen. So it looks like the phones grade is moving up ?. Thanks for the reply.
Pull down the notification all the way. Next to the brightness bar you will see a little down arrow, press that and there it is.

Oh, this is good to know. This is one of the reasons I switch launchers. I'm so used to swipe up anywhere for apps and down anywhere for notifications. This is even more natural to me than the fingerprint reader swipe, but of course the fingerprint reader let you do it in any app which is a big difference.
As for #4 since no one answered, the unlocked version is just being more specific. The US carriers usually replace the specific technology type (LTE, LTE+, etc) with generic "4G" branding (or 5GE if you're a jackass).
I just paid for full BXActions and I was able to remap bixby to double tap to drop the notification. Before I was happy with the free version but deff worth the extra few bucks. I can map more tap types.

I just followed your lead cflip2x and paid for the full version of BXActions and it's (obviously) ideal for this phone. Struggling to attach a single tap action to the bixby button though since whatever I try only seems to activate on a double tap. I need to find the right forum to discuss that issue but it's a great app.

In Nova Beta 6.1 you don't need Tesla anymore, there is an option in the notification which uses the default Pie notification (numbered) system. Starting tomorrow Tesla won't be available on Playstore due to Google new restrictions.

All about notifications

I recently switched to S20FE from LG V30. I loved the way V30's notifications worked. I'm trying to replicate the same behavior with S20FE, but Samsung's options are all over the place and a bit overwhelming.
With V30 when my screen was on, notifications worked as normally.. a popup at the top of the screen.
When the screen was off, whenever I'd get notification it would pop up as a single line at the top of the screen. This was really useful when my phone is laying on the desk, I can just glance over and see what it is.
So I'm trying to replicate this behavior with S20FE.
I have "Always On Display" turned on and set to "Tap to show".
I have Notifications "Show on Always On Display" turned on.
I have "Edge lighting" turned on and set to "While screen is off". (This seems to be the notification style like on V30 when the screen is off.)
I think that's all the notification options I could think of.
So, when the screen is ok, notifications work (mostly*) the same.
But when the screen is off, I don't get "Edge lighting" thing happening.
The only way I can get it to work is if I set "Edge lighting" to "Always", but then it replaces regular notifications when the screen is on too.
What am I doing wrong? Am I missing some other option? Or is this how S20FE works and there's nothing I can do about it?
(*mostly because when I get certain kinds of Discord notifications, with V30 I'd see a couple of lines in the popup and if I were to expand the popup, it would show me action buttons like "open in maps", "open in browser". On S20FE those action buttons are visible before I even expand the notification, making it needlessly large. Is there a way to change this too?)
Nobody uses these notifications?

I've also got this exact issue. Randomly like 2xs a day it may work but 98% of the time the edge lighting does nothing. Even if select it to just light up the top middle and not the edge. I've also installed edge+ from the galaxy store which is something that seemed to be very useful yet doesn't work. I've gone as far as making sure my battery optimization wasn't doing anything to the app. Also going into app permission allowing it to draw over other apps and allowing for notifications without any luck. Really annoying. Only thing I haven't tried is using it without the AOD option. Do you use AOD?

ultimately I decided to turn off AOD since it kinda have no purpose. Showing time and battery is not critical. I can just tap the screen once to see that.
I'm not sure if it's related but I seem to now get these "brief notifications"(official android term for them) only from Telegram. However, Discord, Google Hangouts and irccloud still don't trigger them.
But another annoyance is that now irccloud notifications trigger as those bubble notifications, even though I have "smart pop up view"setting disabled.
This is so confusing and frustrating.
I just went through all of this last night. Ended up turning off Edge Lighting, Turned off AOD. Installed Glimpse Notifications. Went through it's several setup steps, but now any time I get any notifications, my screen lights up and I see what I was sent.

It just shows the normal Android notifications. Literally all this does is light up the screen when a notification comes in. My problem was that I'd get a notification and hear the sound, but I'd have to pick up my phone and press the power button to see what it said. With the setup, the screen lights up when I get a notification and I see the normal notification that I would have seen if I just hit my power button.
Same issue here, seems like a simple feature yet it is not working properly.
On all my other phones, my screen would wake up with any notification (paired with notification sound). With S20 FE, my screen stays black after receiving a notification (notification sounds).
Do others have this problem?

Any way to add NFC switch to top roll down menu?

I don't know why, but Google just avoid adding NFC switch to top menu to fast turn on and off. I have NFC widget, but it's third party app that's just a shortcut to settings menu, not the actual switch. Any help?
If you have root you will add nfc toggle to quick setting over macrodroid
There is a toggle for NFC in quick settings. Just pull down quick settings twice, then edit on the left and you'll see it. Press and hold it to move it to the top 6 if you like.
Without root you can run an Automate flow to add a NFC tile: https://llamalab.com/automate/community/flows/35435

You would need to install the Automate app through the Play Store. You will find a "Community" button in the side menu. There you can search for "NFC tile" for instance.

Since Gmail is part of the system app you can't change the battery optimization. The way around this is to delete the app via adb and then reinstall via play store. This way you get the battery optimization option in the app.
This setting can be made in app settings of Gmail app itself. Though app info (long press app in app drawer, press (i) in top right corner), Battery, choose Unrestricted.

Install Vanced Manager and install Micro G, it will give you notification on the status bar, click it and you will be able to access that menu.

Hi, I am on One UI 4.1 (on the S20 FE). I have installed vanced manager and microG as you asked. However, I am not able to see the Notification or "Optimize battery usage" in the settings. What do I do from here?
Thanks.

You'll need to open the MicroG & log in to your Google account. Then it should have the notification just like the screenshot I shared. From there you can access that option

In Samsung S21 UItra, it’s very easy to find a battery optimization option.
Step 1:
Go to "Settings" and click on "Device Care".
Tap ‘Optimize now’ to optimize your ‘Battery’, "Storage", "Memory" and "Security".
Step 2:
In 'Battery', tap ‘See more’ to go to Settings and click on ‘Sleeping apps’.
Tap ‘Add’ to select apps you want in sleep status, then tap ‘Add’ once again.
Clean up unused apps and features.
Go to ‘Device care’ in ‘Settings’ and click on ‘Battery’. and then ‘Battery usage’.
Click on ‘See more’ and tap ‘Hide OS and system apps’ Check battery usage and details of apps actually in use.

Question Is there a way to get the 'Protect Battery' option in the quick setting panel?

Title says it all really, its a pain to go deep into the settings menu every time I want to turn it on/off. Is it possible to add it to the quick panel or a button on the home screen?
Additionally being able to add it to a Bixby routine would be great, but think that might need to be left to Samsung!
I'm interested as well. This is built into a12, but since I rolled back I miss the option.
Why would you want to turn it off? I will turn it off once every few months and run the battery down to completely flat then a full charge just to keep it on it's toes. Why would you do it regularly?
Personally, I'm looking for the phone to cease charging at 85% automatically. I think this may be what the OP is after - pls correct me if I'm wrong.
So it is very much a case of first world problems but as follows;
The phone has the option to protect the battery settings > device care > battery > more battery settings > 'protect battery' which stops charging at 85%.
I usually have it switched on as I work from home, as well as fast charging turned off.
However sometimes when I'm going out for the day I want to quickly be able to toggle off the protect battery option without having to dive into the menus.
For example with Bixby routines I can make a button on the home screen to toggle fast charging on/off if needed, but it's not possible with the 'protect battery' option
I use an app called 'Shortcutter' and you can get any setting as a tile on your quick panel

This is not available in a11. I had it in 12 before I downgraded. The battery is vastly superior in my experiences on 11 so I'm sticking with it. I'm on the hunt to keep a11 and get this option back - and without having to use Bixby in any capacity.
I can recommend Tasker. It allows you to add a QS tile with a custom script. The toggle to switch is a global variable called "protect_battery" and can be 0 or 1 (off or on). You can toggle it in Tasker with =:=toggle=:= you only need to give it adb permission once
EDIT: Here is the Tasker task: https://taskernet.com/shares/?user=...=&id=Task:Toggle+Battery+Protection+(Samsung)
To add it to the QS tile go to Tasker > Settings > Action > Quick Settings Tasks and add it there. Then add Tasker's QS tile. You could even give it an icon. That's just how I'd do it

Thanks will give it a go
Got the button working, so many thanks for that. I don't suppose you have a method for also toggling super fast charging at the same time? I've been able to incorporate a Bixby routine to turn it on via a notification, but that doesn't work turning it back off. Obviously this one I could toggle separately but in the same button would be perfect

Yes, I do. It's a global variable called "super_fast_charging" which is also toggleable. Just a hint: if you go into tasks and add a "custom setting" there is a magnifying glass. Tap on that and hit "Find" or "Search" (not sure what it is called in English). Now toggle the things you want to have in the Settings app once. Tap on the magnifying glass again and it will show which variables have changed.
Keep in mind that some variables are global, others are system or secure. But most variables from the Settings app are in global

Can you confirm what version of Android you're on? I can't seem to get this to work on 11 but it may be user error in Tasker on my part.
What part isn't working? You have to actually add the button to the quick panel before it shows up if that's the issue?

That was much more simple than what I was trying, thanks for your help!
Looks like this feature is coming to Bixby routines in one UI 4.1
Yes.
New actions for Bixby Routines
You can now create routines that change your watch face or turn on advanced settings like Protect battery.
