I recently purchase the At&t S4 active and a pairs of Sennheiser MM-550X,
Those of you who don't know apt-x is codec for bluetooth to keep the sound quality as the original (really close to) source sound files,
in compare to normal Bluetooth which downgrade sound quality to near 120Kbps.
SGS4 active supposed to support this but on the web there's so little information about it,
So.. I want to know how can i confirm Mine got the Apt-x? from what I heard some android version Not support this..
Does Acid audio engine support this?
Is anyone tried?

I've just ordered a Nokia 8 because I thought it ticked all my boxes, but worryingly now that I've paid for it (it hasn't arrived yet) I see that I forgot to check for AptX codec, and I use aptx bluetooth headphones extensively. GSM Arena and other spec sites say that it does not have AptX.
Schoolboy error there, but I've not owned a phone without aptx for years, going back to the Xperia Z1
Hoping for some news that it's possible, maybe with the Oreo update?
Qualcomm are bragging about how aptx is coded in silicone on the 835 too

A commentator on reddit claims these are null-ops on Nokia 8, that the options don't stick if you exit the menu and come back in, and they don't make any difference.
I guess Nokia just didn't pay the license fee, and due to the locked bootloader we can't twrp flash a driver file (or, can we somehow?)
I'll have to wait until I get the Oreo update to test it myself, UK hasn't got that yet
Same here, I didn't think of checking whether such an advanced phone as the N8 supported aptX...has there been any progress on this issue?
It doesn't support AptX, if you select it, leave the menu and then go back in it will have deselected it as it is unsupported.
Right and while streaming music to aptX headphones you can see that selecting aptX does not actually switch the stream, you can only switch between sbc and aac.
Maybe Pie will change that like it did on the Nokia 7 apparently...
Hi, I understand the P20 Pro hardware supports aptx and aptx HD butdoes this work out of the box or does a codec need to be installed? I can see it in the Bluetooth section of the developer options but I can't select anything but SBC.

Does the option only change when connected to a compatible Bluetooth receiver? I thought my car receiver was compatible but if that's the case then I guess not.
I had the same issue with regards to Bluetooth defaulting to SBC, after some reading I discovered that it was possible to change the Bluetooth mode on my headphones by holding a button combination, it went from prefer connection to prefer sound quality and unlocked aptx and LDAC on my Sony MDR-1000X. So the P20 Pro is definitely capable of it without any additional codecs.
Maybe read the manual for your device and see if it also has something like this.

I have this problem too.
On my OnePlus One i can change the audio codec, it should not depend on the bluetooth headphones connected. My Mpow Wolverine sounds way better with the One Plus One, on the P20 pro it sounds like sh*** ;any suggestion?
I have headphones that are both SBC and AAC compatible.
Paired to my pixel, aac works great.
Paired to p20, it sutters, skips and is stuck on SBC
I noticed when there is an actual icon just after the Bluetooth device name of my headphones that says 'APT-X', in the phones Bluetooth settings.... My previous Huawei P9 didn't have it or support it so did surprise me a little as I didn't look into it when switching.
On the P20 you can change the BT codec (in developper settings) but the settings doesn't stay...

It's a bit frustrating, seems like i have to buy another Bt headphone, also another usb c headphone.. but that is another problem

PowerBeats 3 are in AAC with Pixel and S9, but in SBC with my P20 Pro. And I also hate that EQ is not avaliable.
I have emailed Huawei, but those dumb idiots are asking for IMEI and system version... They don't realise, that it's a wide problem....

Contentear Huawei Team, I have purchased my P20 Pro during a first sales week at your store in Singapore. In general, I am happy with it, but, I have COMPLETELY confused with your audio experience. PROBLEM: I own two pairs of headphones: Bose QuietComfort 30 and PowerBeats 3. I don't understand why I am not able to tweak EQ over the bluetooth! S7 was able to do it, old Sony Z2 was able to do it too, but 1000$ phone by Huawei with triple camera and AI can't provide damn equalizer! I don't need any processing by Dolby, I just want to add some bass, because I am lisening to EDM, not a classical music, I don't need a analytical audio presentation. Then, codec selection is broken! PowerBeats are not able to get their native AAC, and Bose are working in SBC mode. What a shame! I can't tweak audio, and I have to listen compressed nonsense. I didn't expect that I will have to deal with such problem in the 1000$ phone. Please, release the software update, I would like to have at least eq.

Has anyone got aptx HD working? Is it much better sound quality than ACC?
Thinking of buying some Sony 1000xM2 which are aptx HD compatible but if the sound quality isn't any better, I won't waste my money

My Sony MDR100's use LDAC and sound great. They have a built in EQ profile that kicks in once they are powered on according to reviews. I could of sworn it was using APTX HD at first but I was mistaken.

Ah, I didn't know the P20 Pro supported LDAC.
Just got to wait for my Bose to sell on eBay now
Tried on a few different headphones here. Seems apt-X is working, AAC is not.
110 firmware.
My p20 pro is on order and not arrived yet, but what you should try is:
1. Clear bluetooth connection of remembered device
2. Enable Developer settings, go to settings->about phone->click on 'buid number' a bunch of times (8?? from memory)
3. Go to: Settings->developer settings->the bluetooth sections and select whatever you want to be the normal
4. Re-connect your bluetooth device. If its compatible then it will default to your previous selection.
At least, this is how it works on my S8, Zenphone 3 deluxe and Oneplus 3T, with my Sony WH-1000XM2 and audiotechnica headsetsand WI-1000X.
But they all have custom roms and i have never had a Huawei so im not 100% sure.
In theory the Bose QC 35 ii headphones support both SDC and AAC but I can't select AAC in the developer settings. Are others having the same experience?

Yeah I get the same issue with the bose headphones but ldac works when I connected to a sony speaker
Im in the process of buying some earphones that supportthe newer aptx low latency codec as I will be using them for gaming aswell. We know p20 pro supports aptx and aptx HD but does it support aptX LL

Yeah just received my Anker SoundBuds Curve headphones and it shows aptX next to the connection in the bluetooth settings. I guess AAC isn't supported as it's not listed on Huawei's tech specs page- https://consumer.huawei.com/uk/phones/m/p20-pro/tech-specs/ I also don't see aptX LL on there so I supposed that's also not supported
I've changed nothing. Only installed .128 Firmware with funky Huawei. When I connect my Ultrasone Sirius Bluetooth Headset there is automatically a aptx-Icon near the name. Nothing to change in developer-settings. See my picture on instagram:

Hi, got a Huawei Mate 10 Pro BLA-L29 8.0.0.136(C185) and a Shanling M0 as a Bluetooth receiver. When I get them connected using LDAC, there are two menu sections where I can set the audio quality to be fed to the M0. One is the Developer Options where, apart from selecting the BT codec itself, I can set sample rate at 44.1 to 96 kHz, bit depth of 16 to 32 bits per sample, and stream bitrate at 330 to 990 kbps. These settings behave in a weird manner, always reverting to default every time I disconnect the BT or even while it's connected. The other instance is the properties of an individual BT device where I can set the LDAC playback quality to either "Optimized for audio quality" or "Balanced audio and connection quality".
Problem: if the BT device is "Optimized for audio quality", I only get decent transmission if stream bitrate is set to 660 kbps or lower in the Developer Options. Inversely, if the latter is set to 990 kbps, it only works decently if the device-specific setting is "Balanced audio and connection quality". If both are set to maximum audio quality, the playback starts gagging violently, interruptions happening up to twice a second if the phone is active and like once every five to ten seconds if the screen is off (the two devices 5 inches away from each other with nothing but air between them).
I brought the Shanling M0 to the nearest Sony store and paired it with a demo phone with LDAC audio quality set to 32/96 at 990 kbps and it worked like a charm without a single hiccup.
Anyone else has this issue and/or aware of a fix?
I have been to a number of stores since the original post and was able to pair my Shanling M0 to various devices:
1. Huawei P20, Android 8.1, Bluetooth 4.2 - same problem.
2. Samsung Galaxy S9+, Android 8.0, Bluetooth 5.0 - no problem.
3. Samsung Galaxy A6, Android 8.0, Bluetooth 4.2 - no problem.
Apparently, Android version is not responsible for the malfunction, neither is Bluetooth version. It's the manufacturer.
Crap, crossing fingers about having this issue fixed. Have you reported it to Huawei customer service and Shanling's one ?

If you ask me, you should just grab your money and go get it, because it works fine with other phones than Huawei. Even with mine, if I set it to "Balanced audio and connection quality", it's doing great. Actually, the LDAC standard bitrate of 660 kbps is amply sufficient to deliver music from major streaming services like Google Play Music. Whatever the problem is, I don't believe it's Shanling's fault, because the intensity of gagging depends heavily on whether the phone screen is on or off, which has nothing to do with connection quality.
As to the DAP itself, I find its sound signature and stage presentation nothing short of amazing, at least on par with my favorite Hidizs AP100 and far better than vivo Xplay6 or anything else I tried. Sansa Clip+ is nowhere near. The way I feel right now, I'm far more likely to ditch the Huawei phone than the Shanling DAP, because there are reasonable alternatives to the former, but not the latter.

Indeed, I started following Head-fi.org's thread few weeks ago, this device looks great.
I currently own a Cowon Plenue D for more than 2 years, I'm quite happy with it: relatively small, great battery life and sound. But I'd like to have a smaller good DAP I can bring with me when I run, or simply don't want to suck smartphone's battery. I bought a Sansa Sport Clip+ (BT DAP) one year ago, crappiest DAP I ever met...
What's your battery life experience using BT head/earphones wiht this DAP ?

I have a Sony headsets (WH-1000XM2) and it works just fine, I'm able to use LDAC perfectly, sound is very good but you need to be close to the phone, 5m apart and it starts to break.
I know its not the same situation, but this is my experience.

I have no such experience, I only use M0 as a BT receiver with wired IEM connected to it. I never even bothered to measure battery life, since it's more than two days of my regular use, i connect it to a USB port earlier than I need to charge.

If you want to control volume on your headphones, you need to set it to maximum on the DAP. The rest of it will be the responsibility of your headphones' integrated amp - if the volume's too low, then it's just not powerful enough, there is no way a bluetooth source can fix that, as it does not transmit loudness.

Thank you very much indeed, because that's exactly the diagnostic step that I missed. Need to try that to locate the problem more precisely. Are you sure that the LDAC playback quality setting in your bluetooth device options was at "Optimized for audio quality"?

With other smartphone is working perfectly and with strong volume.
Where is possible to maximize the volume on the DAP? Simply with volume buttons?

I would suggest that you go to the Shanling M0 thread on head-fi, there's a company representative on that forum who's very cooperative, you should describe your issue to him. I wish I could give you a hand, but my experience is limited to operating the volume wheel on the DAP.

Yes... it has to be... or it wont use LDAC at all... it will use APTX or something else... LDAC is only used on the setting "Optimised for audio quality".

From what i heard APTX-HD will not work correctly on a Note 9! As it needs to send tons of bluetooth packets it will skip cut out etc, that's why the devs did not include it! LDAC is the best, stick with that codec!

I have several apt-x HD supported devices and I never got it to work. LDAC support is fantastic, as is standard APT-X.
Using sony WH-1000xm2 when selecting SBC, AAC, APT-X or LDAC from developer options will briefly stop the sound whilst it jumps to that codec, no such luck with APT-X HD. I don't believe that the codec is actually implemented on the Note9.
AptX-HD was supported on the Oreo version of the Note9.
I have two Level Pro headphones and after the Android Pie update lost the UHQ audio function from the Level app.
If you looked, you got LDAC and SBC, no AptX or HD.
Then I submit a bug report and they only brought back AptX on the latest version.
I think Samsung it's just trying to push their new Buds as the Level brand is being discounted in many markets.
Also Video Pro Mode was available on the Note9 and removed on the Pie update.
Now I can add my wife had the S8 Plus and she lost the UHQ audio from her Level app.
She went back to Apple at this time as they have better codec support.
Personally I am planning to get the Xperia that has 4K screen and yes, a long list of audio codecs and features.
Samsung keeps playing games, Qualcomm still supports Apt LL and HD, the hardware supports it but it is Samsung decision to remove it.
What's happening with aptx support in Android 10?
When Samsung removed AptX in Android Pie, I send an actual bug report with their support team, it was a pain, because they ask you to reset it then jump hoops.
At the end, they acknowledged that AptX should be "At least supported" because their line of Level headphones run on AptX and AptX HD.
Then I can say, with the next update, they added AptX to the list of supported codec.
Sony and many others are pushing LDAC for their headphones so probably just drop Samsung.

I'm on a Sprint Note9(Snapdragon) UI. 2.0. Android 10.
The big difference is AptX supports 16Bit 48KHz and AptXhd support 24Bits also 48 KHz.
