[RECOVERY] Cyanogen recovery for Nexus 5

EDIT: Post removed since there's an official download now!
Just open download.cyanogenmod.org, choose your device and download the latest recovery
Much fun! Thanks CyanogenMod!
How to get back the automatic recovery update!
I activated 'Update Cyanogen update' but it doesn't work?!
Okay, so you activated the option + flashed a new build and Cyanogen recovery is still not there? Here's what's the cause and how to fix it:
Some third-party recovery systems (e.g. TWRP) prevent to be overwritten by deactivating the automatic recovery update function. This happens by renaming the file /system/recovery-from-boot.p into recovery-from-boot.bak.
To get that functionality back:
- Rename /system/recovery-from-boot.bak back to recovery-from-boot.p
- Execute /system/bin/install-recovery.sh to actually install Cyanogen recovery.
Both steps can be done with CM file manager. You have to give the app root access!
After performing the steps above you can use 'Update Cyanogen recovery' for the future builds to keep your recovery up to date.
You can use this method if you don't want to download/use the img file above or don't want to regularly update the recovery manually.
Questions:
If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask in this thread! I'm not a developer but I'll try my best to help you out

Seems like you're not having trouble with CM recovery. I've tried this before using the 2nd method of renaming and executing. I might go back to CM recovery in a while. I notice the latest TWRP 2.8.5.2 is not really clearing the data partitions of my device. Already gave you a +1 on the CM thread, but I will still give you one for this thread! Nice job!.
Yeah.. it's working fine for me
Thanks for the first comment on this thread! Really appreciate it
Just want to clear this one, does "Wipe data/factory reset" includes internal storage?
No, it doesn't Or at least shouldn't It didn't format internal storage on CWM and TWRP and the same should apply for CM recovery Would be freaking thankful if you could try that (of course backup ur internal storage before if you want to try)

I just wanted to pop into this thread and say that I installed cyanogen recovery (homebrewed)- it seems fine- gestures work well. There is no option to wipe system, but hey, dirty flashing is the in thing nowadays. Life is too short to wipe data and and then restore it from backup.
I did install PA gapps with cyanogen recovery - the PA script and the recovery graphics fight each other, but it's not like I have to look at it all the time. There is a lot of scrreen flashing between the script output and the little android dude. If you blink your eyes fast enough, you can see just one or the other.
Yeah, i also found out that CM recovery tries to 'hide' what's going on so that you can only see the green Andy Looks weird with PA GApps but works fine with official CM nightly builds
Am I able to update official nightlies with cyanogen recovery?
is the touch screen swipe based or touch based?
Did you even read the OP?
I removed my Google Drive link with the image files since there's an official download now!

Your warranty is now void.
I am not responsible for bricked devices, dead SD cards, thermonuclear war, or you getting fired because the alarm app failed. Please do some research if you have any concerns about features included in this ROM before flashing it! YOU are choosing to make these modifications, and if you point the finger at me for messing up your device, I will laugh at you. Hard. A lot.
Before doing anything, download the Dual Boot Patcher app and the DualBootUtilities.zip from the download section below.
The patcher offers several locations for installing ROMs:
1. Primary: This is normally used for installing a zip to the primary ROM. It is not required, but is strongly recommended because it has code to prevent the zip from inadvertently affecting other ROMs.
2. Dual: Dual/Secondary is the first multiboot installation location. It installs to the system partition. This is a good spot for installing a second ROM because it doesn't take any space away from the internal storage.
3. Multi-slots: There are 3 multislots: multi-slot-1, multi-slot-2, multi-slot-3. These install to the cache partition. This is specifically for devices, like the Galaxy S4, that have a massive cache partition.
4. Data-slots: There can be an unlimited number of slots. These install to the data partition and eat up space on the internal storage. This is useful for devices where the system partition is nearly full and the cache partition is tiny. These slots are named "data-slot-[id]", where "id" is something you provide in the app.
5. Extsd-slots: This is like data-slot, but eat space of you external storage
1. First, boot into your primary ROM and install the Dual Boot Patcher app
2. Open the app and go to "Roms" in the navigation drawer. It will ask if you want to set the kernel. Make sure that you do.
3. Go to "Patch zip file" in the navigation drawer and patch the ROM or zip you want to install. You can select one of the installation locations described above.
There are two ways of flashing the patched zip file. You can either flash it normally from recovery or flash it using the in-app flashing feature. Both methods are explained below.
Flashing from recovery
To flash from recovery, just flash the patched zip file like you would for any other zip. Nice and simple.
In-app flashing
To use in-app flashing, go to "Roms" in the navigation drawer, tap the floating button on the bottom right, and add the zips you want to install. You can queue multiple zips and they will all be flashed in one go. Once you've added all the zips you want to flash, click the check mark in the action bar and they will be flashed right away.
A normal backup from recovery will backup every ROM.
DONE! Your ROM can be select from ROMs menu

Because probably it needs a non-touched stock rom
It doesn't work with modded, .zip ROMs
If I Flash CM Rom and Boot Using This method...Is it Need Unlock Boorloader @Caio99BR

Yeah, if not it not will boot, since locked bootloader check for signature from Sony, and custom boot.img not have it

It is working fine on my Galaxy A520F Exynos Model, so you can check that out from the compat. checklist. For some reason the os thinks this is a A520W, but this is a F Model. I had a problem where TWRP said that flashing failed with error 7, but then I restarted it and I flashed it and it worked. Also you actually don't need a SD Card for the flasheble zip, you can actually just turn MTP on and Mount the DATA partition and copy the zip from your computer to your phone. This ROM is pretty good!
Oops, wrong post.

I tried both of them and they work pretty good / fast with a few bugs, such as: Using OTG storage causes the backup to work slow and fail, maybe it's the OTG I was using. I did this backup and restore operation on OnePlus 9 pro. It works fast if u backup to internal storage.
I know people are always looking for internal storage backup, I believe this module does the job.
You can backup without being in TWRP, but I believe this module requires people to be in TWRP recovery to restore internal storage backup.
/BUMP I noticed another few bugs with this script SOMETIMES. It does restore data and internal storage perfectly, but sometimes it may cause systemui to repeatedly bootloop. If that happens, you need to format everything and reinstall from scratch the firmware and then restore again the data backup

You have a trouble with your USB OTG. Use better SSD storage device or use intSD.
It works good. Here is mine (for example):

Restoring speed from SSD USB-OTG in TWRP:
from internal storage in running System :
So, you can see the restoring from my USB-OTG is faster.
Just out of curiosity has anyone tried side loading the restore zip to their phone with a temporary recovery such as lineage or some other similar aosp recovery? I read it supposedly works by flashing it through twrp although it's already on the phones internal storage. I wonder if someone could potentially edit the restore zip to tell the phone it's an update or a rom being flashed and make this work if it won't work as is. I may try this sometime just to see what happens. I imagine it won't be that simple or someone would have already done it but how awesome would it be if it did work!? IMO it would be the next best thing to having twrp on my pixel 7 If anyone has any thoughts or suggestions on how/if this could be possible please let me know!
Thanks,
DroidRommer
