[Q] wi-fi stopped after 2.2 upgrade

My phone was connecting perfectly to my home wifi (1.5 years old router) till it had 2.1.
Here is something I find very peculiar:
1. I upgraded my phone to 2.2.
2. I connected my phone to my home wifi and downloaded some stuff from market.
3. Now its like 24-48 hours since I upgraded to 2.2, and my wifi is stuck at something like "Obtaining IP address". I can still connect to my home wifi from my laptops as well as other phones.
I read issues like 2.2 upgrade killing wifi, but then I was able to connect to download stuff like titanium backup.
Please advise. This inability to wifi is messing up big time.

You can sometimes get your data connections to reset by putting your phone into flight mode then return it back to normal.
I had a similar issue when I was on eclair 2.1. I kept getting the obtaining address loop. And even though I was able to connect other devices to my router it was actually my router - it was trying to assign multiple devices the same ip. Long story short I ended replacing my router with a new one and all has been good, even after I flashed cog 2.2.
now we may not have the same issue - just know that it may very well be your router even if it is making a connection with other devices. Try testing your phone with other routers to try and make sure it isn't your router.

My Captivate was doing this as well. I found a fix for it as well. The problem seems to stem from the android_id in the settings.db.
Things you will need to fix this:
1. Odin 1 Click

Steps to fix the issue:
1. Flash to stock.
2. Root your device.
3. Download Device ID and use it to find out what your stock Device ID is. Write it down or send it to yourself in an e-mail.
4. Flash back the Froyo Rom of your choice.
5. Download Root Explorer and SQlite Editor from the market. You probably will have to have the Market Fix to find SQlite.
6. With Root Explorer browse to /dbdata/databases/com.android.providers.settings/settings.db
7. Copy the settings.db file to your SD Card.
8. Open settings.db with SQlite, tap secure, look under the 'name' column for 'android_id', change the 'value' column to your Device ID you wrote down earlier, exit the file.
9. Copy and replace the original settings.db file in /dbdata/databases/com.android.providers.settings.
10. Reboot.

it connects to another router in my area well. :-( it used to connect to mine too for a day.

Hi Wolf, I tried this way. But the android I got and the android id present in the settings.db file are both the same. Do you still want me overwrite it?

Make sure you get your device ID from your 2.1 Eclair build. You will have to flash back to stock 2.1 to get this correctly. Copy it down and then flash back to froyo and make the change.

oh Gosh!!! I had set up everything from scratch on 2.2. Is there no other way around that could help me avoid do all this again.

Before you flash back to 2.1 do a Titanium Backup. Then flash 2.1 get the Device ID, flash 2.2 and restore your backup. All your settings should restore if you restore all user apps and system data.

EDIT:
15:23 EST: Installed 2.2 after taking android id from 2.1. wifi working fine right after install
15:30 EST: Rooted the device. wifi working fine at this point.
15:34 EST: Installed busy box. wifi still working fine.
15:39 EST: Enabled app sideloading. wifi still working fine.
15:47 EST: Renamed all unneeded apps (in the attachment) to backup extension. wifi still working fine. (renamed apps in the attachment, with the commands too so next time anyone wants can just copy paste these.)
16:08 EST: Rebooted phone after complete restore using titanium backup. wifi still working, surprisingly.
Will post back here if my wifi stops working for some reason.
I did not need to edit the android device id. Surprisingly, it worked. Dunno what I did last time. As far as I can recall, I followed the same steps as I did today.

Ok. Today, out of the blue, my phone is stuck at "obtaining IP address". I restarted the phone n it still will not connect. This is driving me nuts. It was connecting all these days since the date i mentioned in my last post above in this thread.
I'm clueless. Anyone help me pls.
Note, like before, it is connecting to some unprotected wifi nearby. My home network is a secured network.

I updated the android id with the one I copied from 2.1. Still stuck at "obtaining IP address".

I have the same problem as the OP, and havent tried the fix I'm writing more for refference. I was wondering if your phone is connected to the WIFI anyway? mine is. in settings it is still saying 'obtaining ip address' and I have no wifi symbol in taskbar but its connected and can find the other comps on my network.

Since updating my HTC One Sprint to Android 4.3, none of the custom Roms I flash have a data connection. The Stock ROM works fine rooted but Cyanogenmod 4.3 has no data. Tried fiddling with the network settings but no luck there.
The Data shows ON but the radio is not. No matter what I try, I cannot get data to work.
I tried Carbon Rom 4.3 tonight , that loaded and set up my phone automatically which I found very strange, but it too had no data. It appears to work just fine but just as with CM , there is no data connection. It appears that although DATA is turned on, the radio itself is off.
Has anyone else experienced this affliction? Any idea how to resolve?
To get to this point, I did return to stock to flash the 4.3 update from Sprint, then re-rooted the phone, found I had to change TWRP to the Newer version before I could complete that process.
The latest version of TWRP does not work as well by any stretch and won't let me flash from USB Flash Drive but does to the minimum required save the freeze if you leave it sitting in Recovery too long.
The main trouble is I can't use anything but the Stock Rooted Rom since not of them support data in 4.3. I suppose I could use the 4.3 versions although I am a bit afraid to even try that.
Is this just me, did I miss something in the un-root, re-root process?
Also, still have S-Off

Did you try putting the phone in global mode? Also, when you say no data do you mean no data or no service (no voice + no data)?

Hello, I have tired all of the network modes and nothing seems to work.
Voice and Text work fine, it's just Data that won't connect yet I have a good signal.
I have attached screen shots of the CM Rom, everything seems to be in order, data enabled except it says the Mobil Network State Disconnected. Can't find any way to turn it back on. Tried to cycle airplane mode on and off but no change.
I had no trouble until I installed 4.3 from Sprint. Now only sprint works. I hopefully attached screen prints of the phone. All seems in order but data is not working.

I'm about 99% sure you have an APN issue (happened on multiple CM based roms). Check out the following post to see how to fix (be sure to thank him if it works!)

I had the same problem, check this thread for how I fixed it. Under network status under settings, do you see ehrpd? I was getting the error but finally fixed it. Hope this helps

Thank you for your input, I tired the code and could see it was not connected but could not make it change despite trying other settings . Just downloaded the lasted CM nightly, installed clean as new ROM, not over existing version and at least for now, Data including LTE is back. Still not sure of the trouble because it worked the first time I loaded it as well but stopped working in the middle of the day. Very strange indeed.
Could not find the the hidden Menu as the DEV above provided me so I hope what ever it was resolved itself.

Thank you so much for taking the time, although I did not have any luck finding that menu with the voice dialer, not sure what that issue is but wanted to say thanks again here. As I said on other post, the latest nightly from CM installed as brand new ROM fixed it for now. It worked for about a half a day the first time and suddenly stopped working for now apparent reason. I guess I will see what happens for a few days.
As always, you and the other members of this support community make Android a fantastic platform. You are always willing to jump in and help newbies.

No Data Connection after flashing any custom ROM
I lost my data connect after flashing the custom rom. I tried multiple custom ROM's but same issue. So I have to go back to the custom ROM. Any help...!!

I have same issue with the voice search for APNs.

Since 4.3 update, No data with custom Roms
Well, to give everyone an update, I had no luck with the suggestions , Voice Dialer did not recognize prompts. I did return to the Stock Rooted Rom and updated my PLR, when I returned to Cyanogenmod Rom it seemed to resolve the issue of working for a short while and then loosing data. I next Tried the AOPK Rom and that worked like a charm, no issues at all. I really like this Rom for HTC One, so I will most likely stick with this for a while.
I did try to install the 4.3 Version of Carbon Rom but don't you know, no data. No matter what I try, I show Data disconnected. I am just totally confused by this since some work and some don't. The AOPK rom has been working for a couple of days now so I am assuming it will continue.
Thanks again for everyone's input, I am willing to try other things but not going to worry about it since I like the AOPK rom just fine. Hopefully I don't get board with it.

Thanks for posting on my issue, I never found a solution but did fine after I updated my PLR on the HTC one,. it seems to have helped some although I really can't be sure. AOPK worked right away after that so might want to give that a try if available for your phone! Good luck mate!!

You know, I never felt like I found a solution except that the Rom was not quite right for my phone . I had similar experiences some new 4.3 ROMS and then others were fine.
In the end, all of the Roms now work after a release or two from the initial 4.3 versions. Right now, I am using Android Revolution 3.62.401.1 just updated for Sprint recently and for now. it seems to have all of the mods I am looking for.
I may never know exactly what caused the data drops outs but it does seem to be related to initial releases since the affliction has disappeared on all Roms now.

go to settings/data/network mode/cdma only.. fixed for me. I found my phone tried to connect via eRHD or some **** like that. I don't live in a 4G area, so this fixes it for me. Hope it helps

Gents,
Same issue for me. I'm not able to flash any custom ROM that are AOSP based. If I flash Android Rev. HD then LTE\Data connection works just fine, AOKP, CM, Carbon.....No Data Connections at all. Funny thing is that at one time, it was working just fine, then poof! Just stopped. I've tried the above steps, except for the PLR trick, to no avail. If I may, what is PLR and how does one go about updating it please? =) Maybe this will work for me. Google wasn't very helpful with this search term...

Reverting from Lineage 14.1 to Stock 6.0.1

Hello.
I had my z3 compact on MM and then I rooted it and installed the now-Discontinued ROM by Wajk Wich was pretty stable and everything works.
Then when Nougat came I tried Lineage 14.1 by tomascus Wich was all good and new things, but the hotspot didn't work.
After that I tired the https://forum.xda-developers.com/z3-compact/orig-development/oreo-unofficial-omnirom-t3696536"]Omni Oreo 8.1 by devil188[/URL] that had more features and new stuff than those two.
Of course I liked it but I'm missing the stability 6.0.6 had... Wich everything at least worked as they should.
I now have GPS issue(maximum accuracy is 1KM... Always shows a radius instead of pinpointing me, can't navigate with that in cities) and hotspot issue (can't share my internet to my other devices) and can't use the wifi (finds nothing) so I wanted to get back to 6.0.6.
I tired flashing the 6.0.6 but the flashtools said "bundle invalid" and my device was "unknown" and I had to select it manually.
I tired a lot and I always end up at nothing ... So I flashed the 6.0.6 twrp and them wiped everything and installed the flash able ZIP, and got bootloop, waited an hour and many restarts but nothing happened.
So I tired the Nougat and finally that came up, but still same issues (a bit better thought, wifi works at least).
So how to revert back to 6.0.6? Flashing the .ftf didn't worked, device is unknown... And "bundle invalid" in flash tools (tried the latest and 9.18 version).
Have anyone gone through such a process?
Any ideas?

* You can download Emma a flash tool from Sony.
* When you start Emma and it shows up a login screen, then you have to make a new file in the install folder which is called: "customization.ini" and its content: "developerworld/enable = true" After adding this file the Program should start normaly.
* Then you press volume down 5s and connect the cable to your computer.
* Emma should recognise your phone and give you a flashable stock rom.

Did you try Omni Nougat? For me everything worked on that rom, no reboots/ loops/ crashes. GPS, wifi, hotspot and bluetooth worked fine for me (I'm an everyday GPS user).

Hello, no I haven't tried Omni Nougat, only Omni Oreo and Lineage 14.1 Wich I am at now, and SliMM 6.0.1 Wich I was back then.

Known issues:
- There is a small issue with internet calls (WhatsApp, Signal...) where output devices are reversed (speaker and earpiece). Doesn't impact call quality though, this is a problem across many recent samsung qcom devices.
- VoLTE, this affects all Samsung devices on custom roms, not just us
Installation guide:

1. Make sure that the phone has the recommended A705FNXXU5DVK6 Samsung firmware installed and the bootloader is unlocked

2. Open Odin, disable auto reboot in options, and flash vbmeta through AP button (it's required for the bootloader to load Lineage)

3. Reboot again into download mode (hold both volume buttons when phone tries to restart)

4. Flash Lineage recovery through AP button in Odin.
I suggest that you use Lineage recovery for a better experience, but you can use TWRP as long as you know what you're doing.

Samsung's OneUI wipes the custom recovery partition and possibly vbmeta while booting so try not to reboot into Android.

5. Reboot straight into recovery (Volume Up+Power while plugged into the computer)

6. Do a factory reset in recovery, then flash the rom in "Apply update" menu.
There are 2 ways to install:
On the phone: Copy the rom to a FAT32-formatted microSD card and install it in recovery.
With a PC: Use Minimal ADB on Windows. Open "cmd-here" and type

I have fingerprint issue too with @haky 86's device tree while building so i had to get rid of them for success build.

1-Ril is working sim 1 however due to 3g shutdown and no Volte on custom roms, no incoming or outgoing calls can be made. Volte works on stock, anyway to port that over?
2- 2nd sim data works but no way to test calls without Volte.
3-Magisk conflicts with mindthegapps however magisk canary seemed to work fine except passing safety net which might be due to SElinux.
I used twrp to install which went smoothly. Sm-A705MN.
Ill work on more testing today and report back.

Thanks for all the testing 3G shutdown is sad to hear, even 2G is still functional in my country. As far as I know Samsung uses some custom implementation of VoLTE in their stock rom so it can't be done easily unless some more experienced developer ports it successfully - Galaxy S10 series suffer from the same issue
Safetynet is definitely an SElinux issue but that should be sorted out if I manage to boot the phone with enforcing. Lineage also does not pass it out-of-the-box by itself unlike some other roms so even with enforcing you'll still need to install a safetynet fix through Magisk

I installed hide props and safety net fix but i did not change fingerprint as i figured SElinux was the issue there so its best to just wait till some of these things are worked out.
I had to get a new phone, s21 5g, as networks here were not supporting the A70 on their networks but i found a way around it. I used the imei from my s21 to get att service and swap sims which is confirmed working on att networks but in the U.S. VoLTE must be enabled for the A70 to work on any network. With that said, I use my A70 for Drone flights so its not my daily driver anymore but i can flash and test without worry so i volunteer guinea pig. Los is my fav preferred rom

linux4 maybe can do it since he made FoD, ramdisk worked on many samsung devices like S10, A70 (thanks to haky86).

That is very likely. I've tried booting Android 12 with haky's ramdisk import but it failed, I might've just missed something.. It's worth mentioning that for now I've removed the ramdisk support from the kernel but I'll probably revisit this sometime

you must copy the fstab into boot.img, like I did here https://github.com/Haky86/android_device_samsung_a70q/blob/lineage-18.1/rootdir/Android.mk
it works with prebuilt vendor, so it will boots with oss too if done correctly. anyways keep up the good work

My device is SM-A705FN. I tested a little bit. Everything works fine except problems that you said before. Speaker is not working while call but handset works fine. I didn't test microphone while call.

Microphone test: no sound on speaker mode while call but on handset, it's loud and clear. On lineageos recorder, like you said it's low. I'm not sure but seems like proximity sensor didn't worked at all while testing.
EDIT: The same thing with bluetooth, microphone and sound works fine on call also.

That's strange, SIM has been reported to work fine. What is your baseband version in Settings>About Phone>Android version?

For usb settings, turn off device, plug into pc then turn on. Disable usb debugging, unplug cable, plug back in and you should now be able to access the menu.
Sim card,, reflash stock via odin, install twrp, do not perform any wipes besides format data, flash rom, flash gapps if you like, flash disable force encryption, format data, reboot to recovery, flash magisk canary, reboot system. Sim 1 should be working, for data, check APN in network settings.

Small note: only rebooting the phone should be necessary, if it turns on with a cable plugged in then you can disconnect and reconnect as many times as you want, with debugging enabled I fell into that trap thinking that I've fixed USB with the new build but unfortunately that's not the case. See known issues

I didn't face any usb debugging issue, even i didn't reboot phone for that. It's just simply can detect my device on my pc. Is it because of CP and CSC ?

No, its more likely you didnt flash disable force encryption or Samsung usb drivers on pc need installed or updated. I had this issue a while back but only in twrp, turned out that mtp was disabled by default but if its not working in the rom, id say its a pc driver issue.

Miui 12 ROM S8/N8 ANBro10

I was wondering if one of you beautiful coders can point me in the right direction.
So i manged to get it booted running, making phone calls, updating fine. However, I can't connect toany wifi network, it just saves it without attempting to make a connection and mobile data only works when plugged in usb tethering, im assuming thats because it triggers a service and assigns itself an ip address, as soon as i disconnect usb cable it drops data.
So im on a sm-n950f greatlte Exynos
I have a tiny crack on the corner of my screen every other rom ive tried doesnt wake up the screen cause of it, this is the only rom that i can unlock/wake my screen up like normal.
With bootloader unlocked and twrp already installed
i patched Treble project convert dot zip via TWRP 3.7
Then flashed twrp 3.3 Reboot back into TWRP
Flashed no verify (Some reason it won't install on later twrp)
Flashed RevOSLavender's Miui 12GSI Rom (Tried flashing it with 3.7, got boot loop)
Then installed treble's vendor dot zip
Then flashed RevOSLavender again, some reason theres 2 system image partition, sometimes, really depends which twrp i used to flash the convert zip, so i flashed it again because this time it gave the option to flash both partition.
Rebooted into Miui, took about 10mins the first time

Update, not sure what I did, but I clicked on some random file while browsing in root explorer and it executed/extracted a bunch of random things which knocked out my root access but got WiFi working, just need to figure out the mobile data portion if anyone has a clue,

Ok I got the mobile data working, I think I've figured it out. I signed into the Xiaomi account from my mi note 10 which for some reason can't make outgoing calls. So while flashing and running random scripts, I some how got xiaomi's provisioning frameworks script to work? Because it just keeps on trying to sync data, only problem now is to get the complete miui experience it needs a 2 step SMS verification to keep get their awesome skins, themes, and other settings. Yeh cause it was trying to sync with my old fone, it sent me all the hidden apps and services it normally configures after flashing/resetting

ok so this is what happens when it tries to activate your simcard / services. But you have an invalid device id /IMEI
