Hello people.
I recently bought an xperia z1. A very nice phone which works really well, except for a few things. Hence this topic.
I experience good battery life and quite fast loading of apps etc, but i notice that scrolling inside some apps goes stuttery and laggy. Something i didn't expect from a phone with this kinda hardware. Ecspecially phonebook, call log and gmail have problems with this, just like facebook for example.
Now the questions.
Is this a thing that will be fixed in a future firmware release? And if i install a custom rom using a something like doomkernel, will this issue be better?
It really bothers me somehow, and i don't mind unlocking the bootloader to fix this issue. But if i'm not sure that it will fix this stutter and lag, i think it might not be worth it getting problems etc with warranty.

Yes, it can be improved. There is not fix on that and no one can said perfectly what is related too. I got some light laggy launcher but i live with that as it do more stuff than the stock one.
So, if you find an application laggy is not the phone, is the application it self which is badly coded and don't working correctly as it should.
I give you an example, I have Virtua Tennis purchased long time ago, V2.0, then updates after updates the game become laggy as hell, what that mean, that mean updates are ment to improve the application but if they are bad coded they will give you laggy issues, I reverted to v2.0.
At the end I don't think a Firmware will solve all this problems but you can be sure, you will get improvements installing Custom Roms or Custom Kernels which are ment to performing your device.
I don't saying it is worth to unlock bootloader, check also the applications which working in background, all the time they are the main reason for laggy phone as they run and eat ram and CPU.
You have to spend time flashing some latest FW and find the most stable combination.

And what you're saying about the background apps eating ram and cpu, i was thinking the same thing. I notice the lag is random, sometimes it goes quite fluent and sometimes its like i'm working with a phone that can't handle the os because of low specs. Really weird. Is there any tool that gives detailed insight into these background apps and stuff?
The main thing bothering me is the phone/phonebook/call log app which is delivered from sony itself. It's just text, and even that makes the scrolling in that app very stuttery. While i get updates for apps like album, and the scrolling inside that app goes smooth as silk. Just like scrolling within chrome (although it sometimes hangs for a very short moment).
And btw. rooting and deodexing without unlocking the bootloader, will that help too? I guess there's tools that make better performance too then. Or is working with unlocked bootloader better?

Yes, there is an application which check what application wake up your phone or running when the phone is in sleep or even when it should be off but is not. At the moment I don't remember that application as I never used that one, but I know there is as it was mentioned many times for the same reason and battery drain.

Root your phone will definitely help in many ways as many Applications to check your system need Root access, and also if you find an system app that cause your issues and uninstalling is necessary then Root is needed too. Deodexing can improve the customization as it meant for it but is not for performance, so is just up to you if you want to do it or not. There is no tool which will improve performance on your phone, my personal opinion they are all junk application, like the kind of System cleaner. Android is not Windows.
Rooting and Deodexing can be done without Unlocking Bootloader. Unlocking Bootloader is for flash Custom Kernels only. You still can flash Custom Roms based on Stock Kernels.
I'm really thinking of doing that right now. Also because of scrolling cache, which i think might be the cause for the issue i'm having trouble with.

Not really but that kind of stuff it can not be done without Root, I guess.

I noticed that custom roms like romaur and ihackers included that mod. Then i looked it up on google and found some articles which said that many apps have a bad way of handling that cache. I also don't have any experience with other firmwares than the unrooted 4.4.2. Hence my question.
Now i'm also thinking that sony puts alot of effort into optimizing apps for this purpose with new devices, maybe that's why i hear that the 4.2.2 experiences are much better than the newest 4.4.2. But that can also be a bit negative thinking, since i still got hope that future firmwares will make scrolling through call log/phonebook or gmail better.
Although on my old xperia s i noticed the same. With the 4.1 firmware installed, the facebook app scrolled alot better then the with the updates that came after it. Just like stock browser always been the best scroller. Unlike chrome and firefox for example. On my z1 chrome clearly is the best scroller btw, just hangs sometimes. But then it's on long facebook pages etc. Otherwise its very fluent.

Lineage OS is a good value if you don't want google apps. AOSP apps replaces it (browser, messaging app, phone, camera, ...), but there is no bloatware.
But if you want to have more customization features, you can test crdroid or havoc os for example.
BeastROM is the best for me, everything's work on this Rom. Battery consumption is beyond your imagination.

The latest version v1.6-190829 no tuning, no add on, no root, no anything. This is the only aosp pie Rom where Dt2w and AoD are working flawlesly. But don't expect to have a fantastic antutu benchmark score. The kernel made the low level of cpu clock.

I've seen that beastrom is android 9 and I've decided to stay on 10.
Or may I didn't found the newest?

No Android 10 yet.
If the only reason you don't like miui is the amount of useless apps, all you need to do is debloat all of them. Even the Google app can be debloated.
I'm having trouble with all of these interface changes; I'm getting old.
I don't know if it's simple to unbloat my phone or change completely the rom, or if I risk bricking it.
Could you tell me if it is possible to save my stock rom or find it somewhere, to come back to it if i give a try to lineage os or debloat my useless apps. I have global 11.0.6.0 QFAEUXM.
Is there somewhere in the mi9 forum a tuto for newbies to change the rom to lineageOS ?
Installed ADB/Fastboot tools, but don't know what i can uninstall without problems ; i don't even know what are all those apps.

Hi @chaussettdeguerr, I suggest you use the original one from MIUI. Based on the information above, you will have 11.0.8 soon. You just need to organize the icon into an Unused folder and forget about it (troubled applications). Anything else you can do as you like from themes to font and so on. From my experience, changing from one room to another is not a good idea for long time user. It will waste a lot of time from here to there. You can alway try new themes and stuff from the Store until you like something without switching rooms

I thing you have to select from 2 categories,
MIUI based or AOSP based
If you care about Camera and stability, go for MIUI based.
If you care about Smoothness, Stock android 10 gesture and light battery usage.
I couldn't stay more than 3 weeks with AOSP because of serious Camera issues, 4K Video recording was choppy, photos shotted at 2 mega pixel if I set to 16MP or 48MP.
Screen Mirroring will not work on AOSPs and will reboot phone.
My recommendation is Xiaomi.EU or MiRoom (first boot is in russian language and you have to search in settings to find Eng language )
I am pretty happy with my device in most respects, however I find that MIUI's battery management is extremely aggressive at killing apps, even while they're in use and even if I've told it not to use it's "battery saver" feature with it.
Is there any way to fix this without installing a custom ROM?
I don't mind rooting if necessary, but this is really annoying and I would like to fix it.

I got my Redmi Note 10 Pro a couple of weeks ago and I'm really liking it except for some issues. MIUI feels really bloated and sluggish even after using the adb tools to remove most of the pre-installed garbage. Battery life has been really disappointing even after going to 60hz and using low brightness. You also can't use a third party launcher with the full screen gestures and i hate the default launcher. I've been thinking about installing Pixel Experience as I've seen other people having better battery life and performance than on MIUI. It's also stock android so that's a cherry on top, but i don't know what sort of issues it might come with. First of all I don't know if all of my apps will work. I'm also scared that I might brick my phone and I'm not gonna be able to go back to MIUI if there are any issues. Also I might not get regular or quality updates and I don't trust the small team that works on the pixel experience rom more than Xiaomi. Can someone tell me if any of these issues exist and if it's worth it to use a custom rom? Thanks.
it is, I've been using debloated miui11 and 12 on tulip for over 2 years, it is much, much better than original miui. My wife has been using custom aicp on rn4x, and again, experience was much better, than on stock.
Apps will work in 99% cases, if not, there are tutorials how to install them. Stuff that you have to look over the most are banking apps, nfc apps and rn10p miui stock cam (which is actually better, than gcam mods now).
RN10p does not have anti rollback protection, it is generally easier to flash than smartphones based on mediatek cpus, so you must done some physical damage to actually broke this phone.
About OTA's - there are options to install ota updates on custom recovieries like skyhawk recovery project or others to twrp (this recovery does not have that option, as far as I know). If that fails, you can always install new version on top of the old.

I've just started and installed pixel experience (normal, without plus, not sure, what is the difference between it, since even the size is the same). Firstly, you have to unlock your bootloader in order to proceed. Then make sure you've installed usb drivers for this phone (without it, you cannot unlock bootloader, for example, because miunlock does not see your phone).
About a rom - the cleaner the android, the better (mostly). If you aren't super tied to some special miui-only options (most noticeable being xiaomi account and preinstalled mi forum), then you are free to go. Phone is capable of running even fully packed android 11, so picking the lightest rom without gapps to save space doesn't have much sense these days (it had like 7 years ago, when internal storage was always a shortage). Most cool stuff are call recorder (blocked in official miui and in most european countries), small tweaks with gestures and buttons (most roms have it), tweaks like "long press menu button to torch" etc. You'll have to look for yourself later then, but for now just follow guide to install and read topics before instalation - in most cases if something goes wrong, you should be able to pick that from somebody's story. Also remember about backups of internal storage, music, photos, app installers etc, because all of it is gone with almost every operation.

Why would it be a joke? Not everyone is master of rom swapping and adb commands freshly out of the box. It is already much higher level than at least some people, who called their phones by Wrong models or keep asking for help, because they screwed their phones badly. Normal questions, if you ask me.

The new system update isn't much, but it's pretty neat, although it does have its caveats. Apart from a major OS update based on Android 13 and some minor tweaks, not much has changed. Though there are some new features that Xiaomi had promised. Based on optimised system resources that reduce the amount of storage space the system takes up, although it is quite negligible. The amount of virtual memory has been increased from two gigabytes to three gigabytesNew wallpapers have been added to the Themes application. There have also been minor tweaks to the system icons. In the privacy section, some options have been restored. Oh, and I almost forgot to mention that a new feature has been added to the privacy section called Android System Intelligence. Oh, and if you're wondering where the game launcher is, it's in the security application, I don't know why they hid it there. There is also a new feature in the Notes app, which is the sketch function. Oh, and most importantly for this section, the security patch has been updated to the 1st of May.
Now for the caveats: first and foremost, not much has changed other than the operating system itself. Secondly, the camera app is rather buggy when it comes to recording video, and although this can be circumvented by using a third-party application, it's still an annoyance. I also experienced overheating and draining the battery.
What do you think of the new update?
Also, if you're wondering how I managed to install the beta system update when my boot loader is locked, I found a way to bypass the system update menu.

Do you think this is the fault of Android 13 itself??? I found a similar problem in PE too...

Remove miui.powerkeeper via ADB
All this MIUI "optimizing" is total crap. I always revoke all authorizations for all the MIUI crap in the Password&Security menu. With this the OS runs acceptable.
has anyone had any problems with org.codeaurora.ims? I got a battery draining issue with that app, still on MIUI 13.

that makes it better, but far away from good.. alternative OS is the solution... currently on Lineage and its way better... or downgrade to Android 11, which is even better (even on MIUI) in terms of background process killing...
