Question Unlocking - what's best practice if.. - Redmi Note 10 Pro

Whats best practice to unlock a new RN10-Pro safely and maybe without 7d wait period if I have an existing mi account, that was used with the same simcard/number, to unlock a RN10 (w/o pro) phone about a year ago?
should or can I use the same account? why or why not?
do I end in trouble if I try to unlock it with a new account but the same simcard/phone number?
in this case, is it possible to skip the 7d wait time? or is it unavoidable when unlocking a new/different phone?
let me know what you did in similar cases! thanks in advance

You can use the same account every month for unlocking, so after a year there is no problem.
I have used several different sim cards with the same account for all new phones.
You only need a data simcard inserted with starting the procedure.
My number is always the same from another simcard in another phone without data.
You can't skip the 7 days

I have to RMA my old device and won't get it back, do I have to delete this phone and phone-number in my mi-account before trying to add and unlock the new phone (with same sim/number)? or am I at risk for waiting longer than 7 days if I do anything like that on my account?
I was going to lock my old device again.. and then I could theoretically delete the phone and number in the account.
I just don't want to mess up something that could interfer with the unlock of the new phone.

i can instant ubl but only RN 10/pro 5G and Note 10T (all MTK Variant)

How would you do that? I've never heard of anything safe and serious that could unlock a xiaomi without the wait period yet.

If your simcard or number not change you only have to change the phone.
But even this, I think, the phone on your account has nothing to do with unlocking.
I have 4 Xiaomi phones in my account and only one number and had used another data sim with unlocking a new phone.
Before I start with unlocking I always look with "find my phone" if the phone is recognized as mine

yeah, well not really thanks
I mean, having a person you don't really know, controlling your pc (and phone) remotely, and letting them run executables of unknown source and behaviour, is totally the opposite of "safe and serious"
If I could learn, compile and execute it myself it might be an option.. but as it was already mentioned, it's not even a mediatek phone that we are talking about

MM2 - Unlock bootloader post

I came to this forum to read the excellent "[All-In-One] Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 (chiron): Unlock Bootloader, Flash TWRP, Root, Flash ROM" thread.
I knew there was a method to unlock the bootloader and root the phone, which is why I was interested in the MM2. And Amazon currently has it for a great price ($424 US) so I was going to buy it today. Before I pushed the "Place your order" button, I came to the forums to do a little more research before I made the commitment.
I read the process more closely of how to unlock and root. It included the phrases
"You have to give a reason for requesting to unlock the bootloader."
"This permission process can last up to 10 days"
"In case you get the message that the unlocking can be done after 72h, then you have to wait for that time to pass."
Having to possibly wait almost two weeks before my phone could be rooted after having to write an excuse for wanting to unlock not only caused me to not consider buying this phone, but also to ignore Xiaomi's offerings altogether from now on.

Dear @phoneturf
Regarding "Wait for permission" in my "All-In-One" for Mi Mix 2: I have 5 different accounts approved by Xiaomi and the longest I had to wait was 1 day for the approval of each account. Most users are reporting the same, however very few users are reporting a waiting time of up to 10 days! But you can create an MI-Account and ask for approval before you order your phone. I assume you will receive your approval for unlocking the bootloader before you receive your device.
With the 72h waiting time to actually unclok bootloader, Xiaomi wanted to stop the resellers (such as Aliexpress, Gearbest, LightIntheBox, etc.) from unlocking the bootloader and installing their custom firmware which are buggy and contain a lot of bloatware.
I got the unlock code the same day but I still haven't been successful unlocking my bootloader. If you are unsuccessful you get a message saying you have to wait 3 days to try again. The Allow OEM Unlock tab in developer options won't stay on and keeps switching itself back to off. According to the Xiaomi support site you also need to use a VPN for a Chinese city on your phone when binding your account and also possibly on your computer when using the unlock tool--which I did not do. That's easier said than done if you don't want to spend money. The VPN service I subscribe to has no Chinese servers. Plex which is the service people usually recommend will not let you connect to a Chinese server on your phone unless you pay for VIP access--the Chinese servers are walled off from use in the free trial. Nordic VPN offers a 7 day free trial but most of their Chinese servers are walled off from the free trial as well. The two that were available were unable to connect after hours of trying. None of the free services that promise free VPN access to China were able to connect to servers. One of those didn't even allow you to choose a Chinese server unless you paid for the service even though the Play Store description said otherwise. For free the app would only autoconnect to whatever server it wanted. I'm going to do some more research but people sometimes spend weeks or even months trying to unlock the bootloader on Xiaomi phones after getting permission to do it. I don't know that I have that much persistence and patience.

Try FlyVPN works like a charm.
Or alternativelly (since unlocking bootloader will erase your data anyway) you can download the Dev Rom here:
http://en.miui.com/download-334.html
and install it via Updater, connect the Mi-Account to your device (in this case no need for VPN to cennect to chinese seevers) and unlock the bootloader. After this you can install all the roms you want as in my All-In-One explained.

Try first with FlyVPN to connect your Mi Account to your device. If that does not work then try System Updater to install the Dev Rom:
Settings/about phone/system update, then you see 3 points in the uper right corner, click them and then select "Choose Update Package", find the downloaded rom and click OK.

I am glad to hear people reporting that it does not really take 10 days to get permission. This is excellent. Is there a standard response people give when asked why they want to unlock? Like, "I want to be able to backup the phone operating system?"

Why dont you try, lets say you want to experience full features of the phone, something like that. And be detailed. Be unique coz xiaomi also compares those reasons to others. If your just copying reasons probably it might take awhile.
Register account using cellphone number thats the fastest way i think.
Wow, I'm glad I read this before buying this phone. I don't want to go through the hassle of being for a bootloader unlock code.

This thread is old. Now you don't have to apply unlock permission anymore, only have to wait XXhours(the exact waiting time will show up when you unlock). This is a security measurement, prevent lost/stolen phone being unlock.

Same... Mine was actually instant... No waiting required... Download app and unlocked. Never been through any unlock code business...
I even didnt wait. The pc app did all the stuff. I just insertet my mi account username and password, the app asked me to put the phone in fastboot and connect it to the pc. After a minute or two, the phone boot up with the writing "unlocked" beneath the mi logo
Never saw a more user friendlly method to unlock the bootloader

How about open a cmd: fastboot oem unlock (hit the enter key) select unlock from phone using volume buttons and power, done, you're unlocked. To me that's much more friendly, faster and if you use Android then you already have adb and fastboot installed on whatever setup you use.
This unlock method has caused me to purchase windows again because I don't use it nor have it on my computers and the java made mi unlock tools no longer works so if you don't have Windows tough luck. It made me extremely pissed for like two hours then I bought windows again so I can unlock this bad boy. lol. Forcing users to use Windows really sucks and is crappy imo but I love my phone. They really need to make a universal tool if this is what they want to do. That way everyone's happy. Just my opinion..
Sent from my chiron using XDA Labs

If you have an EDL authorized account, you can save my life :)

Hey everyone !
This is my life :
I received my new Xiaomi Mi 8 on wednesday, I bought it on Gearbest.
The bootloader was unlocked, so I just looked for the MIUI 10 release on Xiaomi's website.
When I flashed it on my device with MiFlash, I accidentally re-locked my bootloader because the choice is checked by default. No big deal, at that point.
Then, I restarted my phone, but the OS won't start, the recovery showed up with an arror : "this MIUI version can't be installed on this device".
Why ? I didn't knew at first, but I guess my smartphone had MIUI's chinese version, not global.
So I just have to flash the chinese MIUI 10 version, isn't it ? No ! I have to unlock first.
So I looked at the bootloader unlock instructions : download the app, enter your ID, plug the phone, click on unlock...
No problem until this error shows up at 99% : "current account is not bound to this device".
So what do I have to do ? Link my phone to my Xiaomi account. How ? By going on the phone's settings. **** ! My phone is bricked, I can't do that.
Then, after hours of research, I found only two solutions : 1. open the phone, 2. get an EDL account
But there was no way I open the phone and risk physically destroying it so I looked for all ways to get a Xiaomi EDL authorized account.
The russian topic is closed, I tried another one, no answer for now. I contacted Xiaomi by 3 different e-mail addresses, the only answer is : contact Gearbest.
But I waited one month for this phone, I don't want to wait one more month, or two !
Then I was willing to pay S-Unlock to give me one, but when I visited their website and talked to them, they don't look like serious.
You, dear user, is the only one that can save my life today, by lending me your EDL authorized Xiaomi account, in order to unlock my bootloader again. Just once. Please, help me.
I will be very grateful
Thank you !

He needs teamviewer to help you authenticate.... But okay lol, then i guess u have to go with s-unlock, although it is not 100% successful (saw a post around here where a dude had a lot of problems). Honestly, just an advice, that dude is reliable and beggers cant be choosers.... ATB my friend!

When you get desperate (what I think will happen soon) you can go back to the site and look for the ENG button. Enjoy your brick until then. Good luck whatever you do.
I had the same problem. My Choice was s-unlock and that guy did a good job and unbricked my Mi8. But it will cost you $36,00 and he also needs access to your computer via Teamviewer. After 15 min i had a usefull Smartphone back. Be aware - the phone ist NOT unlocked then. You have to unlock it again with Xiaomi unlock-tool.

Even if there were a member here that can do it, it would most likely be using something such as TeamViewer. Just like you don't want them accessing your computer, they wouldn't entrust you with their account password just for the sake of fixing your device. With TeamViewer, you can generally see what the person is doing on your computer. If you have any concerns, use a separate user on your computer.

Creating a new user doesn't prevent infecting the whole computer, even without elevated privilege.
Also, a sandbox is useless with remote control so the only way was virtual machine, I tried but it seems that even if the OS was detecting the phone in both ADB and fastboot mode, communication wasn't working.
However, I don't understand why I can't just buy an account.
I contacted S-Unlock but they don't want to do that either.

I don't think these people who are sort of "trusted" in their offered service are in it to push malware into your computer. Besides, thats why antivirus software exists. As for VMs, you are right, most never work, specifically due to driver issues.
It may be worth it to partition your hard drive and just create another installation of Windows. Most viruses aren't going to spread over to your other partition. You can install Windows 10 using the Media Creation Tool, no activation needed and it is not "piracy".
Also, you don't understand how the authorization works. Anyhow, simple question, how long have you had your Mi account for, and also, how many devices have you used with your account?
how do you expect these people to unbrick your device? Be happy it is possible. If you are really worried about them installing a virus which they wouldnt because it would cost their business duel boot into a different version of windows (no VM)

I totally agree with you. I faced the same issue 2 months ago. They send me a Chinese version, advertised as "global", also it was my first ever xiaomi, so my first flashing bricked my phone cause option to relock bootloader was ticked. I searched for days all over the internet hopping to find a solution but... So I returned the phone, but it took me almost 2 months cause they tried all kinds of tricks and they were out of Xiaomis. I think that VM works fine. I am on manjaro linux and I am running windows 10. I can connect my phone and flash it. After all, as you mentioned it, I don't think that someone offering this kind of service will risk his reputation to see what I have in my PC.
How do I know if my account is EDL or not?
My Xiaomi account was given approval to unlock my Redmi Note 3 pro some years ago. But I dont know if that would count for the Mi 8 too or if I have to ask for new approval?

Approval is for a very limited time. I'm sure it is no longer valid. Most issues people have can be resolved by contacting Xiaomi support, and assuming you don't have a history of abusing the authorization and you're not a new account (e.g. having to ask because you bricked more than one phone or having a Mi Account that was recently opened). Those set off red flags immediately.
Can someone give me the link to the website that can help me unlock it.
Thread closed, paid remote unlock services and those discussions take no place here

Thanks for the suggestion, is a tutorial delivered when you purchase? How exactly does it work? I would like to know a bit more first since it looks kinda sketchy and I'm not sure why they can provide an frp unlock while there's nothing public?
its just 20 USD so i tried. I recieved a unlock code based on my imei within 24 hours. Then i pluged in the device, run the PC program and entered the FRP unlock code and afte reboot it worked. I unlocked this way the phone and work since then with no problems.

I had some phones too, that I found some tutorials that worked. Whats irritating me is that there are a ton of those "Send IMEI to receive your unlock key" sites, but I can't seem to find the tool to create them or the list that's used for them. Quite weird since I would guess the method should be published somewhere if there are so many bad looking amateurish sites using the same method.
They keep it secret, because they making money.
I can frp unlock almost every device besides p30 for now... They will shure figure a workaround, but i needed it for my customer and the p30 was with lastest security patch.

Do we? Just use google search maybe is there a new frp unlocking method.
Do they send you a program for unlocking the phone after you purchase it?

1. Downgrade to 9.1.0.185Q (use usb otg and memory stick and create dload to root and put files there)
2. After flashing, do a factory reset and then boot to safe mode.
3. Now reset settings, connect to wlan and reboot
4. Voilà

Hey everyone so i got this mi 8 in compensation for something i did fully know it was locked and i hoped i could somehow unlock it but this is worse than Icloud LMAO
So my question is after trying bunch of Indian videos on youtube nothing worked ofc, anybody has any advice or tip ?
I can provide things such as IMEI and the Lock Code that's it .
You can hire a service to unlock it for you. Just Google Xiaomi Mi8 unlock service.
I believe that they help you using teamviewer. I haven't personally used these services but have read that as long as the service provider has an EDL account that they can unlock it and get it backup and running.
Another option is to contact the person that sold you the device and have them give you their Mi Cloud credentials, then after you have removed the device from their account, you can create your own account and bind the device to your account.
Edit : I just read about a tool called Hydra : You can read more here: https://www.hydra-dongle.com/brands/xiaomi/mi-8-(dipper)/
Again, I have never used these services so buyer beware. Though I am sure it will be worth the gamble if you are only spending $30. If it works then come back and let the XDA community know.
Try online service it takes 1-3 days i did it so many times

That doesn't resolve the issue, his phone is bound to the previous owners account. The issue is not booting the phone to system.
The only real solution is getting the account information from the previous owner.

and after that they told me to use this
https://allunlock.net/unlock-service-xiaomi-mi-account-all-countries-100-success/p5864554/

There are video online that work without paying someone. Happened to my mom's phone where she didn't remember the password and touch didn't work. Reset the phone trough recovery and resolved the touch problem but was mi locked. Found the video online that through a security bug bypassed the setup and reset again the phone trough that and was ok after that.

Bypass=Free=Local (Not remove from server)
Remove=Paid=Server and free if you have mi account owner details

Hey man, Xiaomi Mi 8 Pro (equuleus) locked with Mi account, dont't know the password neither have a SIM card associated with that Mi account.
Any way to bypass the activation when turn the phone on ?
Sorry for bad english ...

Need a way to remove mi account lock on my own device cause Xiaomi won't help

Some months ago, I purchased a Xiaomi Redmi 8 from a local store, here, in Greece.
The device was originally given to my brother who has been using it for about a month or so. He knows nothing about tech in general and I was not with him when he set up his phone, so he created a new gmail and mi account on his own.
A few days ago, he was given another device that he is more familiar with, so he decided to switch to it and give the Redmi 8 to my other brother.
Before handing it to him, he told me to create a backup of his photos and perform a hard reset on it in order to wipe everything in the device. I did so, but when rebooting the device after the hard reset, I came across a message telling me that the device is locked and that I need to log in using my old mi account in order to unlock it.
Well, you may have already understood what the problem is. He doesn't know the password to neither his mi nor his gmail account and he didn't even add his phone number as a password reset backup so there is no way for me to unlock it using that way.
Manual verification doesn't work either, cause the accounts are considered to be new, as there are no previous passwords, emails or any kind of history associated to them.
I searched about it and found out that I had to contact xiaomi global in order to sort this issue out so that's exactly what I did (I tried contacting Xiaomi Greece first but they told me that they couldn't help and that I had to send an email to Xiaomi Global).
I sent an email to Xiaomi describing my issue in detail. In the email I also included everything that proved that I am the original owner of the device, because I understand that without proof they wouldn't be able to do anything.
So I included:
- A photo of the locked device with me holding it
- A photo of the device's box with me holding it
- A photo of the IMEI numbers written on the box and on a sticker that came with the device, which I also included as text (in written form) in the email's body
- A photo of the official receipt that I received from the store upon purchase
- The email that my brother used for the mi account he created (he managed to remember the email but not the password)
After four days of communication, switching to different case managers and with me describing my problem again and again, their final answer was that they simply can't do anything about it, because of privacy concerns.
Keep in mind that I don't want to recover my brother's old mi account, I don't care about it, he doesn't care either. What I'm asking for is to have my legally purchased device unlocked, by either completely removing the mi account that is associated with it or switching it with a mi account that he actually knows the password for.
Since then, I've contacted Xiaomi Global again and again, multiple times, and I always receive the same reply, that due to privacy issues they don't accept any unlock requests. For my own legally purchased device ffs!
I read about similar cases online, that got sorted out without even providing a receipt of the purchase and my case is somehow related to privacy issues and cannot be solved, so I'm left with a totally useless device.
Is there any other way to unlock it, I'm extremely frustrated with their behavior, so much that I think I won't be buying any Xiaomi devices anymore.
I believe there is a mi-tool that will allow one too bypass the activation screen and get into your device os here is a link that can help

I haven't had to try it but people in the mi community have recommended it , other than that I'm sure how else to by pass user login
Unless you remember the user name you can try to renew change the password by logging in on pc
- The email that my brother used for the mi account he created (he managed to remember the email but not the password)
go to https://account.xiaomi.com and retrieve your password by mail and if you connected it to your sim number get it out of your phone and insert it in another one to reserve verification SMS
Hi. I have the same issue. Bypass don't work. Could it be helpful to downgrade the device to older OS? Does anyone has experienced a positive bypass?

If it isn't your account go to
Xiaomi Cloud
Manage your data and devices anytime, anywhere
i.mi.com
And follow the steps, for me it worked perfectly
I have the same Problem, i purchased a Xiaomi Redmi 8 Pro (ther big one with 128GB Storage) second Hand. The Seller has removed his Google Account but not his Xiaumi Account. So he also has left his Data on the Telephone because he was very busy and asked me to remove it from the Phone.
So it's my first Xioami Device with having a Xiaomi Account and i never had anything to do with such Accounts, only the Google Account that you need on most of all Phones. So i performed a Factory Reset on the Phone and the Phone is now locked by the Xiaomi Account and unuseable. I have everything from the Seller, The Original Box, the original Bill (was originallly purchased in Czechslovakia i think) and the Papers came with the Phone.
Have someone an Idea what i can do? I live in Vienna/Austria and would be very thankful for any form of help to bring the Phone back to Life.
I contacted the Xiaomi Support, i tried some Guides in Youtube Videos with won't work with my Phone or are Fake, tried some Account Unlock Tools.... I have no Idea anymore, maybe someone here can help me out please?

i bought it as a used phone and fastboot means bootloader is locked. is there a way to unlock it via fastboot mode?
To check if bootloader is unlocked, while booting up but before the boot animation, there should be an unlocked lock.
If you can't find that lock then you should go visit a support center or so
If it is unlocked tell me here and I'll help
Unforgently i think it isn't unlocked because i cannot see this unlocked lock at bootimg up. Any ideas?

Just follow the method #1 of the guide: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...for-merlin-redmi-note-9-redmi-10x-4g.4233977/
(Method #2 is specific for MERLIN devices. If your device is NOT merlin, you can brick it.)

It will lock bootloader again.
If you have unlocked bootloader and want to backup it, just backup the SECCFG partition.
And then, after the "firmware upgrade" just restore the SECCFG partition.

The Bootloader is already seems to be locked, so its no Problem if the SP Flash Tool will lock it again. But its a good Hint, Thank you anyway.
I just want to have a working Device for Daily use because i sold my other Phone and buyed this one as a used one because a friend of mine use the same Model and is very pleased with it. It has some useful functions huawei doesn't provide.
For now i have to use the reserve Phone from a friend of mine, a LG G3 D855 with 1GB of RAM and Android 5. So i will be very happy if my Xiaomi Redmi 8 Pro working like it should work.
But for now i'm warned and can everybody strongly recommend to look that the seller of an mobile phone has removed ALL of his accounts from the phone befire you buy it.

Unhappy, neither Xiaomi or Google asks if you want to protect your device asking for password if anybody try to wipe data.
You are right, we need to confirm if everything is clear before to buy.

Hi why is everybody hard resetting their phones the old way, in Xiaomi devices the proper way is to do it thru the settings menu or simply logout the mi account of the device (but offcourse doing it this way will ask for a pasword).
In regards to your quetions you may have to options:
1. Ask the seller to remove the phone from his mi account in https://i.mi.com/
2. Jtag the phone or going for the prior mentioned software https://www.androidjungles.com/download-mi-account-unlock-tool/
Actually if you go into recovery (stock one), it has the option to contact support thru mipcsuite. Once I had the good " the system has been destroyed" screen and they fixed it for me w/o even contacting each other
