Question How is the smoothness of OneUI 5.1 on S23 compared with other flagships? - Samsung Galaxy S23

I am curious how smooth is the OneUI 5.1 on S23 compared with previous Samsung flagships or other skins (stock, ColorOS, OxygenOS, iOS, MIUI)?
I went yesterday to a local shop and tried the S23. I felt a bit of stuttering compared with Oppo Find X5 Pro or iPhone 14 Pro. This could be just a feeling because I didn't have them side by side. Another factor could be the bloatware services that are not initialized and they just pop-up to sign-in/activate.
What is your take on that? As a user of S23, do you feel it buttery smooth? If yes, what is your benchmark. Thank you!

S23 vs Oneplus 10 Pro. S23 is clearly smoother imo.

Setting animations to 0 improves even more the smoothness

its the smoothest s series phone so far. my last few phones were fold 2, note 20 ultra and s21 ultra.

Coming from a Pixel 5, my S23 is very smooth. Haven't had a hickup once.
No complaints whatsoever.

Same impressions here, and coming from Pixel 5, too.

Oneplus 6T to Note 9

Hi guys I am starting to get bored of this phone and looking to purchase a Note 9. Has anyone else done same. And as I am in uk how is Battery life on exynos version.
Well, I'm coming from a OnePlus 6 (8/128GB version) to a Note 9 (6/128GB Snapdragon version).
I can say the overall experience isn't as different as I thought it would be. I got used to Samsung Experience rather quickly. Haven't used the OP6 since getting the Note 9.
Check out the battery threads to get an idea of what to expect for the Exynos version. I get around the same battery performance with both the 6 and Note 9, but one has a FHD screen and the other a QHD screen. One has a stock Android experience, the other has tons of bloat (including processes).
I've got a Oneplus 6, fancy a note 9
The 2 things I love the most is the gcam hack and clean android
Whats the best note to get for using it the gcam hack with the sd845 or exynos? And are there any fully working clean android roms again is it better to get the sd845 or exynos?
Thanks
I had the OP5T and got quite bored with it also and i got the 512GB Exynos N9 and am quite enjoying it. I am also running Samsung Pie beta and everything is good. Just a lot more bloatware on Samsung compared to OP5T. I haven't looked back either
I also came from a Oneplus 5T and while I wasn't bored with the 5T, I just felt like it was time to upgrade. My decision came down to the N9 and the Oneplus 6T. Originally I purchased the 512GB N960DF/DS because of the unlock BL potential but quickly returned the phone because the signal was horrific and I was missing important LTE bands on ATT. I then bit the bullet and decided on the N9 US unlocked version. I am an admitted itchy finger custom rom flasher and I've always had unlocked phones in the past that allowed rooting. Obviously, the N9 US has locked BL so no root or TWRP. To be honest, I haven't even been bothered with the non ability to root. I really enjoy the stock version of the phone and I've grown fond of Samsung Pay, Knox encryption, Secured Folders, and Bixby. Root on this phone would obviously kill warranty, trip Knox and kill the ability to secure the phone properly. For a $1000 phone, that's too much of a risk if I ever have to put in a warranty claim.
The N9 IMO is superb in every way especially in the screen, audio, and overall speed department. Battery life on SD845 appears to be similar to my OP5T but that's saying a lot because the battery on my OP5T was heavily tweaked using custom kernels. I'm happy with the Samsung Experience thus far so my only worry is that I don't get bored with the locked BL down the road. This is the reason I bought the N960U1 unlocked version that cab be used on ANY network CSMA & GSM for better resale value. I did flash ATT firmware to get my carrier features such as Wifi Calling, Volte, etc but I will simply flash the stock unlocked firmware when it's time to sell. I feel like I'm winning in this deal so far! Good luck with your decision.

Same here have the 6T and just place a order for Note 9 gonna use it for a week or 2 and decide which to sell or send back
Well for the price I'd hope the Note 9 is better. I have both and use both for certain situations. I use the 6T on the weekends, love stock, clesn and slightly faster overall. I use the Note 9 when traveling, work

I mean I don't disagree, for the money I think it is a nice phone I just prefer the note. I mean I didn't full retail for 512 gb note 9 but I didn't either for my 6T. About $570 vs $930. Is the note 9 double the phone of the 6T? Nah but did I use the note 9 more when i had both, yup. i am trying pixel 3 now to see how it compared with a price in between the two

I pulled the trigger on a brand new note 9 for £590
My op6 is the 256gb version and therefore was only 20 quid less
I have the 6T 8/256 and the Note SM-N960FD 6/128, and have been trying to pick one to use and one to sell. By buying the Note on Black Friday I paid the same for both phones ($630). I'm in the US on T-Mobile and require root. It's a really tough call. The 6T is a better pure phone for my needs but it's hard to pass up the amazing hardware on the Note.
6T pros:
Form factor & high screen:body. Speed. Useful mods & minimal bloat. Great battery life & SOT. Dash charging. Full TMB support w/o hacks (LTE bands, CA, VoLTE, Wi-Fi call/text). No issues w/root & encryption. TWRP can decrypt data. Similarity to Pixel makes features like GCam easier to port.
6T cons:
Screen & camera not best in class. No SD slot. No notification LED. No headphone jack. No wireless charging. Weak vibration motor. No IP certification. Curve of display corners.
Note pros:
Screen A+ from DisplayMate. Great camera w/2x zoom. Stereo speakers w/Atmos. SD slot. S-Pen. DeX. USB 3.0. Rear fingerprint & iris scan. Some Samsung features & apps add value.
Note cons:
Exynos performance per AnandTech. Modem missing TMB LTE bands & CA capability in US. Loss of features/value upon rooting & tripping Knox. No warranty. Root & encrypted data don't like to coexist. Proprietary Samsung encryption (TWRP can't decrypt). Samsung bloat in background processes. Proprietary IMS/VoLTE stack. Broken MTP file transfer on Mac. Slow OS updates. Size & squared design. One UI in upcoming Pie release wastes screen real estate.

Why do you "require" root? Not sure how note 9 slow os updates are a negative I have unlocked note 9 and get regular updates every month like a pixel device. Pie isn't that bad if you use it. Few things they need to fix but it isn't a negative about the device thus far
Update received my note 9 but glad I did not unsealed it as the online retailer (John Lewis) does not accept returns on unsealed item unless faulty. Guess gonna have to keep 6T.
I sold my One Plus 6 for a Huawei mate 20 pro I had to put 600 along with OP6 because I wanted the Twilight 256 GB version. Big mistake.big. Huge. I can almost guarantee that if your a power user you will be disappointed with the Note 9 it will slow down and all the preloaded bloat will really upset you after a while. The Huawei is one of the fastest phone's on the planet right now but certainly doesn't feel like it. If you're used to snappy performance few handsets will feel like a OP6 in my opinion and I have no allegiance to any brand for me it's the speed that is everything. Benchmarks don't mean **** in the real world and the Huawei was like a son of Samsung. I had the last Note 8 and many Samsung's over the years and again it just began to irritate me after time. I do understand your boredom that's always a problem for me I was lucky to sell my Huawei this side of Xmas and now my fingers are wrapped around One Plus 6 T McLaren edition. God it's good to be home.

I have both as well and it's really a tough choice. I have the 6T 8gb/128 and Note 9 128gb dual sim. The OnePlus is faster at everything while the Note 9 seems to do everything slightly better. It my hand, the 6T feels like a better form factor, but the screen of the Note 9 is beautiful (and less rounded, not sure why OnePlus rounded the screen so much!).
When I need stuff done quickly and painlessly, the 6T is my pick. When I have time to kill or want to watch videos/play games, the Note 9 is amazing. Also, to me, the Note 9 is not usable without a case. The combination of dry hands, heavy phone that's slippery and curved edges means the phone slips frequently, I constantly touch the edges of the screen with accidental taps, and after you put the Note 9 in a decent case (I use spigen neo), turns a large phone into something even bigger.
You probably know this but the Note 9 is a bigger phone but the screen is the same size as the 6T.
I'm leaning towards the 6T because it's fast and reliable, not the most exciting but if I get bored, I can easily root it and tinker. Also, when Android 10 beta is released, I won't be waiting months for it.
I'm in the same boat trying to decide which one to hold and which one to flip, between Oneplus 6 256 vs Note 9 128.
Both have their pros and cons. What's so far making me lean towards Note 9 are the speakers, screen size, battery & better vibration motor. I've already rooted my Note 9.
What I'm missing from my Oneplus 6 is the super fluid stock like Android Pie experience, better hand grip & size, faster face unlock, faster fingerprint and stability with the apps. Battery life is one of my big concerns on OP6 which is good, but not even close to Note 9. Although ones deciding against the OP6T, it's pretty close to N9.
So far holding on both.
Thanks!
I have both. I moved on from note 9 to 6T. 6T while it has smaller battery lasts longer than note 9. Even with One UI. Note 9s standby drain is significantly better on One UI but overall 6T lasts longer for my day to day use.
Speaker is definitely better on note 9 but I rarely use the speaker.
things that keeps me staying with 6T is size of the phone, Google camera port, and stock Android feel.

The size of both phones is almost exact width wise and note is just a tad taller
forgot to mention the biggest issue with Note 9. connectivity consistency. I know a game might not be the most effective way to testing, but sliter.io which is an online game that is dependent on having a low latency connection, is horrible on Note 9. Under the same conditions, Note 9 CONSTANTLY, and I mean CONSTANT, lags and studders while, my 6T, Iphone 6, Iphone 8, Ipad 2018, Pixelbook, doesn't.
Other connectivity problem is bluetooth. 6T is consistently more stable at longer range.. roughly 2x the range of Note 9.. again under same conditions.

Overall speed

Would you say that the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra is "fast" in day-to-day use? A higher rating indicates that you think the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra exhibits fantastic performance. Like, is it as fast as your tears when you watch The Titanic?
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
It does feel very fast in overall speed. I think this is due to the 5G and 120hz display. Some app used to hang for a couple seconds waiting on data, but with increased download speed there is no waiting.
After a few hours I returned the Note 20 Ultra, compared it side to side with my OnePlus 8 Pro and it just disappointed me. The exynos is constantly being outperformed by the Qualcomm 865 in my OnePlus device.
Really a shame because I loved the design and really wanted to jump back on the Samsung train.
I know everyone's case is different. I've upgraded from a Note 10+ 512GB ATT snapdragon version to the same ATT equivalent of Note 20 ultra 512GB and I have to be honest. I don't even game and I feel a significant difference in speed in everyday tasks. Everything loads noticeably faster, finger print scanner is faster, 120hz refresh rate is noticeably faster. My sign ins into my banking and other apps is faster. I feel like it gets better reception and the stereo speakers are louder and clearer. The screen is insanely bright. If I feel this difference coming from a relatively new flagship I don't understand the ppl that aren't that impressed coming from the likes of a Note 8, which to be fair I've also had. While the likes of a Note 8 was incredible relative to when it came out now making the comparison between the two devices is like comparing iPhone 11 pro to the iPhone 6s max

Well....
5G T-Mobile is definitely faster than when I bought the S20 Ultra.
The movement within the app is lightning fast...either with adaptive Motion or with WQHD (all animations at "0" in Development Settings). Honestly I don't notice that much difference between those two although there is one.
Ridiculous speed. Literally could not be faster. Between 120Hz, insane processor, and some animation tweaks... Wowzers. Mind = blown.
Flawless! But demoted 1 atar since I know Samsung is holding back some other areas by using the same 990 exynos that S20 models had.
3D Mark benchmark
I received my Ultra yesterday. SnapD HK version.
3D marked it. Attached results here.

Note 20 ultra is only slightly better than the Note 10+ in pretty much ever way but significantly much better when it comes to reception. I have solid reception in places where the Note 10+ had zero cell coverage. Also the phone call clarity and loudness is significantly better on the 20 ultra.
Does anybody own OnePlus 8 Pro and Note 20 Ultra? I am curious how the everyday use of these 2 devices compare? Is Note considerably slower?

I had the Note 20 Ultra ( Exynos ) for one day besides the OnePlus 8 Pro. Don't get me wrong I stepped away from Samsung after many years, had most S and Note series but felt I missed out due to the Exynos CPU and missed the S-Pen.
When the OnePlus 8 Pro got announced I decided to give it a go and so far I'm very impressed. However I do miss the S-Pen and the overall video quality from Samsung. My Note 9 delivers better video and specially audio quality.
I wanted to cross back to Samsung and Pre-ordered the Note 20 Ultra.
After a day of use I returned the Note because it actually felt a step back instead of forward. The Exynos doesn't deliver anywhere close to the SD865. The overall smoothness and scrolling feel is not as smooth and display wasn't ( for me ) as crisp as the one in the OP8Pro.
An example is the Note 20 Ultra stutters when scrolling through Gmail / FB / Chrome while the OP8Pro scrolls smoothly.
Also the speaker output wasn't what I expected, my Note 9 even sounds better. Delivering a deeper sound quality.
For now ( besides the S-Pen ) I would choose the OP8Pro over the Note 20 Ultra. BUT I'm sure this all comes down to the Exynos vs Snapdragon CPU.
I'm actually thinking about importing a Note 20 Ultra to get a Qualcomm version.

I also think you're right but Samsung flagships in Exynos region don't feel like they can too the Qualcomm devices. It just doesn't feel as smooth. Also the Note 20 Ultra I had seemed to lag compared to the OP8Pro.
On the camera side the OP8Pro doesn't stand a chance , even videos recorded on my Note 9 have better audio quality.
Still I have to say the Note 20 Ultra didn't feel as premium as I expected. Speakers don't sound that premium, display doesn't look that premium and if I add that to the battery ( didn't get the chance to test it myself ) or the lack of it based on reviews I'd say the Note 20 Ultra ( Exynos variant ) isn't that premium at all. At least not for the introduction price.
Man I'm starting to sound like a Sammy hater.......however I'm still a fan. Just hoping they will deliver in the future.
Compared to note 10 plus this phone is better in every way. Virtually no lags. I was very skeptical about 120 hz, I was pretty sure I won't feel any difference... and I was so wrong! It's night and day difference! Probably the only thing that did not change for me is the battery life.. 5-6 hours SOT...
In developer settings, I changed the animation settings from 1.0 to 0.5 after using my Note 20 Ultra for a week and this thing really flies now. Much faster than my old Note9 I traded in (which also had the animation settings lowered)
Performance is good (not game) but warm

Question About to buy a new phone and have an honest question

Hi all,
I have not been on the forums for a looong time.
I am about to upgrade from my P20 pro and I am trying to decide between the iPhone 12 Pro max, Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra and Xiaomi Mi11 Ultra.
The problem with the iPhone for me is the display refresh rate, the fingerprint scanner and the OS. I prefer Android and I prefer 120Hz refresh rate.
I am leaning towards both android choices. However I have watched all reviews and comparisons I could between these phones on youtube and I have a few issues:
1. I think I did not see a single review with the latest Mi 11 Ultra firmware and the xiaomi.eu ROM. This is bugging me because I cannot see a comparison with the latest updates on the cameras.
2. From the videos I watched it seems the selfie camera on the Mi 11 Ultra is a real letdown. And the rear camera used to take selfies also seem to produce bad results.
Can anyone who has used both phones give an honest opinion please?
Or someone who is using the latest firmware explain the impact of the updates since the release of the phone?
Thank you!

I am sad to hear this to be honest, but somehow I was always seeing things in both Android phones especially in video recording that were annoying as hell.
Or maybe I wait for Pixel 6 to see ...
I don't have a S21 Ultra or iPhone 12 Pro Max but I do have a P40 Pro which I still thought was the best camera phone to date.
When I bought Mi 11 Ultra, I was close to returning it because I couldn't be more disappointed by its camera performance after hearing how amazing this new sensor is. I wanted to wait for the P50 Pro even if it did not have Google app support as the camera is my #1 priority and I'm a light app user.
However, it's been a month or two and even being on CN stable firmware the camera has improved massively and I no longer regret my decision and have little complaints overall about the phone. I took a lot of sample shots on slightly older firmware in my main thread and overall I'm very pleased with the results and it can only keep improving given it's not even officially out still in some countries.
I'm now on v12.5.7 and to give you a rough idea of all the updates I received on the CN model, I've gotten at least 5 updates since receiving it. Most YouTubers such as MKBHD and MrWhosetheboss were still on early stock firmware that had no camera improvements and optimizations, while they compared it to the S21U and iPhone 12 Pro Max which were all well optimized by then. This meant their results weren't that great or convincing.

Everything improved across the board with one of the main updates that rolled out. Here's one which got the most attention that the majority of reviewers from what I've seen never got to test: https://min.news/en/tech/590f98d68b0fdbb259d5fd644b74d23c.html
There's been at least two more updates that were released after that one even they didn't mention camera improvements specifically. As for selfies, I don't take enough of them to say but I generally use the rear camera with the viewfinder for the best quality and it definitely delivers the results since the front one isn't great.

Just so you understand, the Xiaomi EU ROM is based on the Chinese stable or weekly beta ROMS. There are plenty of added extras on this against any of the stock versions but the EU Devs don't write any apps, just apply their template to the relevant release. So whatever the status is of the equivalent Chinese stock ROM will be the same version on the EU ROM.
I came from Huawei too, my last being the P40Pro Plus and my first Xiaomi was the 10 Ultra and I was very pleased and that continues with the 11 Ultra. I have used stock Chinese and Global ROMs with the 11 Ultra and just love the EU version. I use the weekly branch and have had no issues at all. It is a very good all round phone and matches if not surpasses the Huawei. I had to give in me due to the lack of GMS and locked bootloaders. It was such a shame when they went down that road. Thankfully Xiaomi don't mind if you unlock but do make you wait 7 days to complete the process but once unlocked, you can swap to any stock or custom ROMs you want. Telegram has groups making camera mods and of course you can use a g-cam variant too but for me stock EU camera is pretty dam good. Multicam, super moon, slow-mo, time lapse and more.
There are a few camera comparisons against the iPhone 12 about and I think the 11 Ultra is as good or not better in some but really it's down to Android verses Apple. Make the choice that suits but I think as a user's phone, the 11 Ultra is the better choice against a phone you can never tweak with Apples.
Buy Mi11 Ultra
Things like 67W charging, IR blaster, rear display, amazing camera trick features, you won't find this on any iPhone or Samsung, the customization on Xiaomi is unrivalled, nothing else comes close.
I switched from Note 20 Ultra to Mi11 Ultra and I am never going back to Samsung.
Also, the fingerprint sensor on Samsung Note 20 Ultra was terrible, the fingerprint on my Xiaomi Mi11 Ultra works literally every single time, it has not failed once. And I love the super wallpapers so much
This is an incredibly hard question to answer. Nobody can answer you objectively.
I have always had 2 phones - an android and an iPhone. I've only recently got the 11Ultra, coming from a Note 20. I also have a 12 Pro Max.
The mi is incredibly smooth - far more so than the iPhone. But I hated the Chinese underpinnings which you could never quite get rid of. Moving to the EU ROM today has sorted that.
What of the cameras? I'm still testing. I only started with my mi on 12.5.4 and then 12.5.7 so I missed the early firmware. They've always been very good. But so is the iPhone. The iPhone is also incredibly consistent in so many situations. The mi is phenomenal in good light - I just haven't yet been able to test it much in poor light yet, although I'm pleased with the initial results, I have to say.
The fast charging sealed the deal for me
The cooling is also better so it gets consistently higher scores from the SD 888 without throttling it down 10-20%
I would agree someone needs to do another test on YouTube when the phone and rear display has been optimized and fully functional
All the tests were done on pre release software vs optimized s21u and iPhone which was hardly fair
Honestly, apart from the design, this Xiami 11 Ultra is the best of the best (I only prefer Samsung for the phone design, but I like the Xiami too). It has a lot of potential and is blazing fast. Also the display is astonishing, and speaker quality incredible. I would recommend this phone to everyone.

Hi all,
I have not been on the forums for a looong time.
Thank you!

General Selling my S22 Ultra as the Xiaomi Mi11 with Pixel Experience is better!

Just got my new S22 ultra and its not as good as my Xiaomi mi11 with Pixel Experience!
The Xiaomi is faster, better screen, better UI, better battery, feels better in my hand, lighter. The only thing the S22 is better is camera and sound.
I think im going to sell it..
this is the Snapdragon version btw..
Mi 11 with Pixel Experience really is a whole new device. Best custom ROM experience I've had in many years. Bonus, unlike real Pixels, Mi 11 with PE works for 5G and VoLTE in my region. Best of all worlds.
Only drawback is the camera. Everything else, chef's kiss.

Question ONE UI 5.1 for S21

Hi.
Anybody have any idea when one Ui 5.1 will drop officially for the S21 series?
I am holding on to my S21 ultra as I feel most of the features of the S23 ultra are software based and so don't feel the need to upgrade.
2 years from preorder and its still a solid phone.
Also samsung haven't sorted out the shutter lag it seems on the S23 Ultra.
For photos it seems to have moved to more vibrant and hdrish photos for the S23 series as compared to the s21 series.
What do you guys think
S21U is definitely a solid phone.
5.1 is nothing to be very excited about. There is no life changing features to wait for. The current software in my opinion is good enough for everyday use. Camera is still as excellent as it was, maybe even better.
Battery life has decreased a little but not by much. There's no particular reason why I would ever change device.

I feel at least 60% of the S23 ultra show off is due to one ui 5.1 and software optimisation.
Especially with the camera via Expert raw .
If you compare the s21 ultra photos to the S23 ultras the s23 ultra tends to lean towards more vibrant and hdrish photos compared to the s21 ultras muted photos.
