How To Guide Bugs Present - OnePlus Pad

I posted this elsewhere to help others from tearing their hair out.
Magnetic keyboard throws bugs- although I still want to keep the tablet.
Magnetic keyboard a bug claptrap, + should've been keyboard backlit.
1. Dire password & autofill issues. Websites & apps will claim you're entering incorrect PW + forgotten pw screen is blocked from appearing. If you fall into trap of creating new PW, unbeknownst to you the email address as username will be INVISIBLY capitalized at the first letter of name + domain + com ([email protected]). You will NOT know it because Autofill doesn't capitalize it. You will ONLY know it when you log into your account from another device, browser, or on-screen keyboard... And thus will never be able to log in while physical keyboard connected!
PS system keyboard suks, install your preferred one.
2. Orientation issues.
3. Streaming issues.
Workarounds:
Enable sync to have all PWs ready AND
DISCONNECT keyboard for the very first time you log in anywhere on Tab AND when creating a password for any app or website.
Also disconnect it when streaming or you won't be able to view horizontally + will get booted from stream...only able to view vertically.
OTHER ISSUES:
Scrolling vertically & switching tabs freezes + forces restart of browser and apps... Maybe physical keyboard was a cause, too soon to determine.
Times out when connected to WiFi only, although infrequently.
Icons, text & images too big in both tablet and browsers- set everything to smallest setting 50% both in Settings and those of browsers. There's a Display Size setting needs to be changed to Small (fits more stuff on screen).
Install your launcher of choice...Nova very good at fixing icon sizes.

[Q] Washed out/missing text in rooted stock?

As always, if this is already answered elsewhere then please just send a pointer, but I couldn't find anything useful after a decent amount of searching.
After playing with NookieFroyo and NookieHoneycomb, I decided to go back to the rooted stock ROM as my daily driver. I like the status bar on the bottom with soft keys embedded, and I like having access to the B&N reader without having to dual-boot. My main issue with stock was the lack of corporate calendar, but I even managed to get that working (although the Agenda view crashes it).
The one thing odd I've noticed with the rooted stock ROM is that sometimes the color scheme seems to cause fonts not to show up in some applications, primarily in their dialogs. For example, if I go into Miren and select Settings>About Miren Browser, the text in the resulting dialog is invisible except for the URL which is underlined-blue. Similar if I go into Miren's user agent selection dialog. I see the radio buttons but not their labels.
Does anyone know why this is happening and, more to the point, how to fix it?
Thanks in advance for any assistance!
I've seen this too, mostly with text next to "checkmark" settings

[Q] Swype defect on Galaxy Tab 10.1

Since the recent update, I've noticed a defect in Swype entry in the browser address field. Wonder if anyone else can duplicate this or experience it. (It may have been there before and I just didn't notice it.) It currently has Swype v3.25.91.34889.34889.5238.GT_P7510.
Open the browser
Put the cursor in the address field and clear out any existing text.
Ensure that the Swype keyboard is enabled.
Swype an entry. For example, I Swyped "Samsung"
Since auto-spacing is disabled in the address bar, you must press the space to add one.
After pressing space, it removes the last two characters and adds the space. So, in my example, "Samsung" becomes "Samsu ".
This behavior is exhibited:
Whether using the small or large Swype keyboard, for all words entered in the address bar.
Only in the address bar. It does not happen in other text-entry applications; e.g., Evernote, QuickOffice, etc.
Only on my Galaxy Tab 10.1 which comes with Swype onboard. I do not get this with the Swype beta I have loaded on my OG Droid.

[Q] Multiple issues with my new Z1

Hello everyone,
I've been around lurking in these forums for my previous android phone ( Nexus 4 ), but it's my first time posting.
I just got my hands on my new Xperia Z1 and although I really like how it looks, there's ALOT of things that bug me.
I was wondering if any of you could help me with some of the issues.
1 - First off, the most annoying part, is the messaging app. I've been searching on the net and noone seems to have even raised the question about this. Why in the world is there no widget for the stock messaging app ? Is it just me that finds this important ? All 3rd party applications from the playstore don't fit my style / needs. When I had my Nexus 4, i LOVED the stock text app widget. I could actually see multiple messages in the window, tap one of the messages to have the app open up directly to that message, etc. I attached an example.
On this sony phone, the messaging app ( which is so so ), there isnt even a widget available.
Also, is it normal that everytime i hit "send" for a SMS, a very short "popup" shows up and says "sending message" ? It kind of interrupts the flow of multiple messages as i have to RETAP the message box to start writing again. I know it's a small detail but it's something that gets annoying over time. The best thing would be for me to be able to install the google nexus 4 stock messaging app on this phone.
2 - So .. The screen is huge, very nice, and 1080p. Which brings me to my next issue. The way everything is so big without the option to make text/icons smaller. I could fit 4 widgets in one home screen if i wanted to ( im used to icons being small ), but for some reason, i can only put up to 2 widgets (mostly) that take up half of the screen each. If it was only that, i wouldnt mind, but the fact that my email widget takes up half of my screen and yet only shows me 2 messages within that window is mind blowing. I get about 50 emails a day and i need to see more than only 2 within a widget.
The threads / fonts are so big. Is there ANY WAY to make icons / fonts / etc smaller for the UI ? Or at least the mail widget or something ? I feel it is not utilizing the screen to it's full potential. This problem also applies to notifications ( sliding down from the top, i get like.. 4 notifications max that fit in the window ), the quickbar buttons ( sliding from the top , i have 6 quick bar buttons, and they take up 2 rows instead of one. Like my fingers were 3 inches wide ) to name a few.
3 - With my nexus 4, whenever i would get an email, it would push automatically. With this phone, it seems i can only cycle the Sync at 15 minutes minumum. I have to manually "refresh" to get my emails, which is another source of annoyance.
4 - Is there a way to make the volume rocker buttons interact with media that plays ? I use grooveshark for my music and I like to be able to forward/previous with the volume buttons ( holding the button for 1 or 2 seconds ). I can't seem to do that for this phone..
I know i have other issues and i'll repost when I think of them, but so far, unfortunately, i'm a bit dissapointed with this phone. Help me find a way to make me like it to it's full potential please

1. Stock messaging apps s*ck when it comes to additional features. Just download a 3rd party app.
2. Go to Settings > Display > Font Size and set it to Small. As for icons and such, you're better off installing an alternate launcher.
3. Are you using the GMail app or the Email app?
Email App - Hit the menu key > Sync Options > Inbox Frequency Check
If you are using Hotmail or Live, make sure you set it up manually and use Exchange Active Sync. Server is m.hotmail.com
GMail App - Go to Settings > Accounts > Google. Select your Google account the make sure that GMail sync is enabled.
4. No Idea. I never use the volume buttons for anything other than volume.

Thank you for your quick response
1 - There were no 3rd party apps that did what i needed :/ Is there a way to get the stock messaging from the nexus 4 ?
2 - its already on small. Everything is still very big
3 - Email app. I cant find where to put the exhange active sync server
4. I forgot to say that the volume buttons can previous/next only when the screen is off and a media player is opened (again, with long presses only). otherwise it would only control the volume with short presses. But yeah, a very useful function for listening to your music and not have to take out the phone from your pocket every time!
Thanks again. Anyone else has some input on these ?

For the email app, you'd have to remove your account (I'm assuming you're using hotmail/live correct?), then add it again. On the screen where you put your username and password, there will be an option to select Exchange Active Sync.

2. Use another launcher that allows for change in the number of rows and columns, and resizing of widgets.
4. This isn't a native feature of Xperia phones. You will need to install 3rd party apps for this. For me, I use the Xposed Xblast Tools module (which requires root).

(No root) Chrome desktop view on main screen & mobile on cover automatically.

Hi all. Sharing a quick tip that made me a happy man. I have always preferred the desktop site view on the main screen. In the past I had to toggle on desktop view for each new tab but have found a method to toggle it on depending on the screen the tab is opened in automatically.
Launch chrome
Enter this url in the browser: chrome://flags
In the search box, search for “desktop”
Look for “request desktop site for tablets on android"
select "enabled for 100dpi+ screens" and restart the browser.
Chrome should indicate you need to restart the app and provides a button. If missed, make sure to restart Chrome later (use task kill or something similar) and it should now give you the respective formatted screen on the display in use.
I selected 100dpi vs a higher one, but it seems to work so I kept it in that setting. If others see otherwise please comment.
If not working, check post 2 item 2 as a newer build temporarily broke this. Hopefully fixed in newer. Please post if working on newer builds and I will update this post.
Also note: I use Resolution changer (again no root needed) to modify my resolutions somewhat by fine tuning the density to get more screen real estate. Another very nice update to get a better "desktop" browsing experience.
Change list and notes for post #1.
1. Corrected 1st post: updated URL removing HTTP.
2. Looks like the latest version broke this (96.0.4664.45 from 11/15/21). I restored the 11/4/21 version:
com.android.chrome_95.0.4638.74-463807410_minAPI21_maxAPI23(armeabi-v7a)(nodpi)_apkmirror.com.apkand got the functionality back. Hopefully this gets fixed in the next latest build. (Don't forget to turn off auto update in google play).
3. Corrected step #4 in post 1. The look for target was truncated and not completely written out.
4. The December 15, 2021 release of Chrome still is broken so stick to the known good listed above. Even the flag to set all to desktop does not work. If anyone sees otherwise do let me know. I may file a bug on this. I filed a bug on this here.
5. With the newer chrome version breaking this I did find one other useful tidbit. Setting the "Global setting to request desktop site on Android" to enabled (in the chrome://flags page) makes a new toggle in settings -> Site settings. This is labeled "desktop site" and turning it on will enable desktop site to be the default on all pages (main and cover). Not as useful as the intial post but helpful if you want to force it on or have it as the default (can still toggle it off).
6. Chrome beta is missing the "“request desktop site for tablets on android"" so possibly gtting phased out? Hope not.
7- I filed a bug on this here: https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=1280779
If you are using this, please go here and up vote the issue so it will get fixed.
https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=1280779
the builtin samsung internet browser (which is far superior to chrome and others) has the feature, together with dark mode, one-button adblock disabler for cocky sites etc.
thanks @vratnik that's good to know. I played with it some. It does not auto adjust to mobile on front and desktop on primary. That's the key thing of interest with this on chrome. But I do find the Samsung browser to be working much better than it did years ago and worthy of some more use.
Thanks for sharing. Are there any news to make this work??

Switching Gmail accounts in Google Home

Hello,
I’m looking for any suggestions from users that have migrated their Google Home email address to a new Gmail and Home.
What I’m looking to do is:
Move Google Home from my current Gmail address to my new Gmail address in newly created “Home” in Google Home app
Move Nest devices (Wired doorbell, Speakers, Yale Lock, Protect, Thermostat, sensors) to newly created Home in Google Home app without losing my Nest Aware (1st Gen) subscription. And without factory resetting the Nest Doorbell as it is wired and not easy to get to the QR code.
Move YouTube TV from current Gmail address to new Gmail address.
Reasons:
Current email is associated with other things. Not just the Smart Home and have been getting more junk mail over the last 4 months.
“Issues” in Google’s development procedures and updates to the app have caused some devices to show up multiple times. Even after using the old method of downgrading the version of Google Home app and removing the duplicates, they still exists somewhere in Googles infrastructure. When giving voice commands, Google Assistant does not execute properly because it either doesn’t see the device or sees the device under a previous name.
After creating a Test Home environment for the Preview program, I moved one Chromecast w/Google TV dongle and a Nest mini to that environment. I had removed the devices from my main Home, factory reset and added them to the Test environment. Now, when I ask Google to sync my devices in the main Home, Google now responds that “two devices are not available and you might want to try setting them up again”
I’m waiting to execute this project until the new updates for Matter are released. Just in case there are problems so I do not have to factory reset devices or create a new Home, etc; more than once.
Any advice on the best ways to do this with minimal issues will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
I know these following problems will not get fixed by creating a new Home in the app, but I wanted to list them to see how many others have been affected as well.
Because of the three major screw ups this year by Google, (the three I’m aware of) I’ve moved the majority of my Google Home routines to Amazon Alexa.
Google using code from Sonos costs us the use of being able to control Speaker groups. Still no fix.
The update pushed out to the Google Home App around October 20th 2022 time-frame broke the use of color light bulbs from major 3rd party vendors (that I know of Feit, Geeni, Tuya). Google Assistant no longer recognized the bulbs as color and only responds with an error when used in a routine or vocal command.
The fix for the above issue pushed out the following week only corrected part of the problem and broke Location. Whenever the Google Home app was opened, there was an error of “no location”. The App however does recognize color light bulbs again, but the update to power on/off, change brightness and set color, broke any routine that had a Starter that was time based. Example: For setting night functions of Locking the door, setting ADT alarm and turning off lights no longer executed. UNLESS, I remove the light bulb functions.
So basically I now have all routines that turn lights on/of, change brightness or color handled by Alexa.
It’s also weird that I could tell Google Assistant to run the broken routines and they worked, but it does not execute them based on a Time Starter.
4. Does anyone know how to dismiss ALL the notifications at once in the Google Home app like in previous versions. Instead of having to click the 3 dots next to each message and then click Dismiss?
Thanks again.
