Montana is the first U.S. state to ban the Chinese-developed social media app Tiktok. "To protect the personal and private data of Montana people from the Chinese Communist Party, I have banned Tiktok in Montana," Republican Governor Greg Gianforte tweeted Wednesday after signing the bill, which was passed by the state House of Representatives in April.
The new rule would prohibit app stores from offering the app from Jan. 1, 2024, and Tiktok would no longer be allowed to operate as a business in the northwestern state. For every day the app is still available, app providers would have to pay a $10,000 fine. Users do not face a penalty. Those who already have the app on their device are not affected. Tiktok did not initially respond to the order.
TikTok, which is owned by Chinese internet company Bytedance, is under intense political pressure in the US. President Joe Biden's administration has already banned the app on the cell phones of government employees. The background to this is concern that Chinese authorities and intelligence agencies could use Tiktok to gather information about Americans and influence them politically. At the end of March, Tiktok boss Shou Zi Chew had to answer questions in the US Congress. He met with mistrust and rejection from both Republican and Democratic members of Congress.

Googles new privacy policy

Am I the only one seeing the problem with the new policy (i mean I never read the old one) but in the new one its says they collect data (a lot of which is personal) like who u text and call, how who's important to u and what not. I may be late on this but that **** pisses me off, some privacy policy!!

You can still use your android phone without a being signed in to Google.
CIQ and now this? The switch to WP7 was always easy, now I'm near dancing on the tragic comedy that is an android user's privacy.

You don't like an os that tracks what you do from a company that sells you ads?
Um...bing direct ads via user data and the wp7 phones have been found tracking users without users permission.
Sorry but given that these things about microsoft are well known then to ignore them so you can claim some moral high ground for ms by implying they have no privacy issues is trolling.
As is suggesting ciq is an android problem when its a usa issue not related to the os because it is not part of android nor on most android phones. Certainly not in uk or europe.

It doesn't really matter. They can't do anything with your data or do they even know you personally. I'll be afraid if a lunatic had my info. Not Google.

Now I know that seems a bit extreme, but I'm working on a full body suit too. You can never have enough protection. :good:
I don't live in the U.S., so I just keep a lot of CIA memes on my phone and taunt them, since they can't touch me.

Disturbing trend concerning new users

I find it disturbing that new Android enthusiasts are being detoured away from Android because of some projects that are in my opinion predatory.
This is what's happening,
New enthusist decides to upgrade to a phone that he or she sees on a online store or shop. He or she watches videos and reads about all of the mods and Roms and intricacies of Android and decides to buy a phone or dissect with their old phone.
The person that sold the phone sells many phones at at lower market price and advertises it as unlocked or for a certain carrier, and the purchaser doesn't realize that the phone has been modified with a partition that is not easily reformated.
The merchant loads his custom keys and server tracing software on the new users phone unbenownce to the purchaser. Sometimes the purchaser can think they have reset the phone and actually haven't.
The new enthusiast is now a part of the merchants not net, if the new enthusiast doesn't manage to wipe the phone correctly. Most often the merchant uses a server location in a liberal part of a swing state, mining keys and encryptions that are most often used for Bitcoin bot mining or stock market swing modeling.
This is a frustration to say the least to the new enthusiast and definitely are "life drain". It decently doesn't foster manufacturers of phones to open their devices up to open source projects.
In my opinion do this, "Pull" the predatory system load it on a emulator and have it scan low frequency stations and have it constantly publish the netstat to a public folder preferably overseas.
Nice try Apple. Still not buying an iphone.

Hello, and greetings from Ellsworth, Maine!
My name is V. Kelly Bellis. This is my 2nd post here at XDA I have been surveying since 1975, beta testing surveying and surveying-related software since 1992, using GPS since 2001, and GNSS RTK since 2014. I’ve also been a paid consultant, equipment tester, photographer and manual writer for a GNSS equipment manufacturer. Recent developments supporting multi-frequency multi-constellation GNSS RTK solutions in smartphones has been particularly interesting to me.
Google’s Decimeter Challenge at this year’s ION GNSS+ 2021 conference is looking to be a milestone event toward the realization of high precision GNSS positioning on smartphones. I wish all challengers the very best for their teams’ success in St. Louis! Moving past the excitement of ION GNSS+ 2021, where will your research and development lead to next? For any participants of the Google Smartphone Decimeter Challenge, whether they attend the conference or not, and who are developing GIS and surveying related applications, I am offering my help and ideas. You just need to provide the supported Android device(s) targeted for your app(s).
Please feel welcome to continue this conversation by replying to:

Thank you very much.
Kind regards,
