Question Vivo x fold 2, should I buy it? - Vivo X Fold

Hello
I pre order the Google pixel fold, but it was delayed delivery for 1 month, so i decided to cancel it. I don't trust Google anymore.
How is the Vivo X Fold 2? How is the Camera performance? Battery life? The software?

Battery life is phenomenal and it charges to full in 26 minutes. Pixel fold has incredibly slow charging times and using a lesser processor chip (tensor). Cameras are nice but maybe the 1 area where pixel trumps Vivo however all the other hardware on Vivo will destroy Google I'm sure. I'm extremely happy with mine. Brightness is higher nits than on any other fold too. Plus you'll be saving hundreds getting the Vivo. It's a no brainier. Software takes a little getting used to a notifications are a little annoying. I still can't get message preview for WhatsApp messages but other than that it's solid.

Did you tried on the app in the apps setting go to notifications and sign the banner and lock screen for get notifications. You can try also reset the notification in whatssapp app and then go to settings and choose the banner&lockscreen in the app also choose ring for the app. Its worked for me on Oppo find n2
Please let me know if this work for you

I've tried it all man. I've gone into WhatsApp app settings and reset the notifications to see if that does anything but I doubt it. I have WhatsApp on auto start with banner, lock screen, badge the lot. I can see the notification on the lock screen but not when phone is unlocked and being used. I'm really at a loss.

I have just noticed this though. Would this be it? Edit: nevermind this is apparently for Android 9 and older.

When its unlocked can you see it in the notifications drawer when you slide it down? Can you answer from there?

Yeah I can see the message by pulling down and technically I can reply from there, when I write the message and press send the send button turns into a circle going round and round as if it's trying to send. It has sent but it will sit there indefinitely spinning round. On my last phone when you press send the message disappears and you know it's been sent.

I just tried dynamic island and it still didn't work. I couldn't even get the 'test' in the app to work, you know when you press the play button at the top right to see an example of what it will look like. It's impossible!

I have both vivo x fold version
I think in terms of camera it is a downgrade due to lacking periscope lens. I think the recent software upgrades makes the vivo x fold 2 questionable. But the vivo x fold 2 is a lighter device and the camera quality is still A+ (slightly below the vivo x90 pro + though). The charging between the x fold and x fold 2 are still light years ahead of pixel fold's speed.
I think it boils down to a few critical things comparing the two. If you never had a rooted vivo x fold, then I would get the x fold 2. If you find a rooted device (boot loader unlockable), I would still consider the vivo x fold

If it's true you cannot remove vivo.pem anymore live with a phone without notifications or even ringtones for many apps. It's unusable without debloat like any origin OS vivo.

So I'm having this issue with Microsoft teams and what has worked for me is keeping the app pinned from my recents section. Dirty fix but it works so far and I don't notice it.
using the app Edgemask (which I've used for years also really helps, plus more customization options for notifications)
Also for some reason yes, you cannot delete using the adb command but you can put it to sleep and you have to use 1 after user in the command and not 0.not sure why, but it gives you an error if you try slot 0

My WhatsApp is always locked to the background so unfortunately that's not a fix either. I dont quite understand what's stopping it.

Me and Jesús David Gulfo Agudelo AKA @D4rKn3sSyS present you Peek!
This application is a complete redesign of the known "Peek" feature by ParanoidAndroid project, built to work on any 4.4+ ROM. The whole concept lies into allowing users to quickly interact with their notifications, without having to press any button. The new design includes sharper typography, nicer placement of the items, breathtaking new effects and extended functionality (including blacklist). It works on secure locked devices, with the ability to customize what information to show.
How peek works:
When you receive a notification, and screen is off, peek will start polling your sensors. If some movement is detected on your device (either it was on a table and you lifted it, or it was in your pocket and you got it out), peek will show. Sensors will be polled for 10 seconds (by default, customizable) and then it stops doing so, to save battery. It is not possible to simulate the behavior of devices like the Moto X, without affecting battery, since they have special hardware for the task.

Interestingly, I have found that enabling 'always polling' a là the Moto X only has a very small battery impact (maybe around 1% extra per hour). The default 10 seconds has no impact on battery life. Love the feature.
Works very inconsistently on my xperia z2. Success rate under 10% I'll say. Submitted an email for support on the issue, awaiting feedback.
So u guys have any plans to make this an "lockscreen replacer"?

Can you help us describing what is the problem? We've tested successfully on more than 10 devices that we own, with no apparent problems. Just quote this post, me and Jesus will see it and help you. Sorry if I didn't reply to the e-mail, my inbox is crammed with e-mails from Peek, I haven't had time to answer them all.

Currently we have no plans because it would require a major re-design of our code. Its not so straightforward, but its something we can think about for the long run.

Simple problem really. The screen supposed to come on when i pick up my phone and display notifications right, whether past or present?! Mine simply doesn't most of the time. I actually see a little red light indicating the sensor coming on, but Peek doesn't get activated for some reason and my screen remains black. I'm using a Sony Xperia z2 with 4.4.2. Hit or miss basically. Sorry I can't give more info for you, but that's just the reality with my device. I'm testing for a few days to see if i can discern some kind of pattern

Yeah, I didn't want to report the problem, but I thought I should due to the app's infancy. I believe i followed it. I have made sure Peek is a device administrator, and I have made sure notification access is checked as well.
Correct me if I'm wrong but regardless of when I get the notifications, as long as I pick up my phone at anytime, the Peek screen is supposed to activate right? it seems (and don't quote me) that it activates when I get a fresh notification. At one time it activated with me just looking at the phone (without touching it)
I left thepolling a the default 10 seconds, I'm going to put it to always on and see if that helps. I think my problem may be device specific though. Good luck, and thanks
I'm using nexus 4 with FK r208.
I have to say, Peek is a great work for nexus 4. Especially for the poor durability of the power button of nexus 4, Peek massively reduces the usage of power button
Here's a little question:
I find that when the screen just turns off for about 2~3 seconds, a new message accidentally comes in and the LED glitters (controlled by Light Manager 6.0),
I lift it from the table, but Peek does not work.
Is this event not meeting the criteria for Peek to take actions?
BTW, if it's not a must for Peek's functionality, is it possible to remove the "Peek service is running" message from the notification tray?
I would like to suggest to reduce slightly the distance to slide to unlock and dismiss notifications. Currently I have to slide until the very end of my screen to trigger it. Or maybe just me. Thanks for the nice app anyway!
Oh by the way, how to blacklist system apps? Thanks. @franciscofranco

We don't know about those LED apps, they are independent of Peek. Maybe that app is consuming the notification. If that's the reason then there's not much we can about it.

Sorry for what seems like a dumb question but is that 10 seconds polling from notification ARRIVAL, or from picking up the phone (independent of when the notification comes in) Just want to be 100% clear. If it is the former then I definitely have to have it always on for it to be of use to me.
I was just wondering, is peek a lock screen widget or replacement?

Nokia 7 Plus Indian Variant Issues

Now, I bought the device on the sale date ie. 30th April and the phone got delievered just the next day. I'm running on the Android 8.1 update with April Security patch as of writing this. From the start I've noticed some issues and lags here and there. They are as follows:
Swiping left on the launcher to get to the Google Now page (the default launcher that is the Launcher 3) and also on the Pixel Launcher 3 is very jittery and you can feel and see the lag.
The keyboard (Gboard) is also not that fluid and very very rarely it misses out on some letters of the words that I'm typing.
In Instagram, swiping for story is again very jittery.
The whole Snapchat app is super jittery.
Considering that this is an Android One device and running on Higher Mid-Range Processor ie. Snap 660, this is not expected in any way.
Camera is fine for me and some have also complained about the Bluetooth which I have not yet tested. Audio quality through the speakers and also through the headphone jack is superb. Battery is also very good. Getting 7+ hrs of Screen on time in a day's usage and around 5.5-6.5 in two day's usage. Also Google camera is working fine just download and install Gcam Tool app from the PlayStore so as to transfer and save the photos directly in the default Camera folder only.
Please let me know if you also are having the same issues and if there's any fix for them. I think Nokia will have to only push out an update to improve the overall optimization of the device.

Yeah. That's clearly optimization issues. Everyone's talking about these stutters and lags. Do tell about these stutters and lags to Nokia customer care so that they can fix them in next update. I am particularly worried about the audio quality through the headphone jack. Will get my device tomorrow.

Also, which was your last phone? If it was a very powerful mobile then maybe your expectations are too high. It happened to my friend ( moved from iPhone to S7 and was pissed).
2. Could anyone tell me if using Google camera is safe and how to get it. I don't wanna root though.

Google cam doesn't need root. There are many versions on the net. There's also a thread about the Google cam.

I remember reading in Pixel Launcher thread that recent changes in google app is causing inconsistent performance in launchers. I think we have to wait till google fix it or some workaround.
Apart from that I have not noticed other above mentioned issues in my device, so can't comment.
One issue that I am annoyed with is Headset Inline Controls not working while phone being locked. I am using PowerAmp and in-built settings are set correctly. I was not facing this issue on my previous device, so this seems to be device related issue.
If anybody knows any workaround please comment.
Stock android shoulnot have any sort of oprtimisation for any app ,, in contrast App shold be optimised for this . U cant see lag and stutter in most of G -APPS but hangout will stutter a lot. I have seen lag in my OP3T with sd 821 ,,, so

You should have received an update the moment you connected the phone to internet.
Stock android doesn't support system wide dark theme that can be turned on or off manually.
You can always use a 3rd party launcher. [emoji16]

I guess the phone needs time to settle down because we immediately load apps and every app instantly starts taking up ram. After sometime, the android system starts managing the system as to which apps need to be in background and which apps need to be killed based on our usage.
Also, initially the apps have to build up cache and that adds to lags.
I am using stock Android from an OEM for the first time and I am amazed with the smoothness of the UI. It just flows. Also, the vibration on this device is better than any other device I have used.
Also, regarding sound quality through jack, I don't know why people are bashing it. Probably, they don't know that the phone has an equalizer too which is turned off by default.

You can always use a 3rd party launcher. [emoji16]

If you use a dark background wallpaper, the theme becomes dark especially the notification menu and app drawer...

Yeah but just the QS panel and App drawer.
But it's a LCD panel and I like white a lot. [emoji3]

Used audio through a Bluetooth device (car Bluetooth) and of works just fine. Informing because I had read online on some other forums about the audio coming out through Bluetooth connection is breaking or muffled. But, on my device it is absolutely fine.

EMUI 9 - aggressive memory management

OK, the big difference for me between emui 8 and 9 is that on 9 after a few mins the task switcher shows you have less than 1 gig of free ram and from that point whenever you switch between tasks it's clear that it's killed the task you're switching to and freed the memory so it's loading it again from scratch. For every task.
Googling for help here pulls up a lot of legacy results about `protecting` apps but this is no longer in the settings. Maybe on emu 4 or something it was a possibility. There is something in emui 9 about "manage all automatically" in the app launch option in the battery settings but this already has all apps set to "run in background" and changing them to manually managed and keeping the settings the same obviously makes no difference.
I'm not sure what the padlock item means on the apps in the task switcher - you can toggle it by swiping down - but that doesn't make any difference either.
Clicking the trash can on the task switcher only frees up a few hundred megs of the 4gigs of ram in my phone so perhaps there's a memory leak somewhere? Seems a bit unlikely but then again it would explain why this phone essentially now has multi-tasking disabled.
Yes I've been facing the same problem of aggressive ram management on emui 9. Infact sometimes it even kills apps like Spotify when it's playing music in the background. Haven't found any workaround to it either. I'm hoping the stable pie build will fix it.

We have this on emui 8 also. Google Play music stops after 3-4 songs and had to turn on screen again.

No this kept happening to me WHILE I'm using the phone but just in another app. That never happened to me on oreo.

Did what help?
Same problem is with Oreo as well.
Most of apps reload when launch them from recent apps.
Even youtube also reloads that too playing video if i switch to some another app. Memory is less than 1Gb available most of the times.
My wife is also facing this problem with her Honor 10 (COL-L29). So it's safe to say that the problem is within EMUI 8/9. She didn't have this issue with her Honor 8. Wonder if there's any open bug/issue at Honor/Huawei development team.
Have you added apps to the "ignore battery optimization"? I also lock apps that I want to run in the background too for faster load times.... Works perfectly for me
I'm on the official Emui 8.2
For ignore battery optimization options follow this path
Settings, apps and notifications, apps, then choose the icon at the bottom "settings", special access, ignore battery optimization.
Change the tab to all apps and then click an app and add to ignore battery optimization.
Let me know how it goes especially on Emui v9.

Yes, I found this setting yesterday. I've set it, and i've temporarily stopped using nova launcher. So far the problem doesn't seem to have reoccured, although oddly just not i enabled chrome (i use firefox but am having problems with 1 site) and during enabling, updating, and using chrome the music stopped playing several times. Available ram remained over 1 gig though so i'm not sure what to think.

Unless it's completely different on EMUI 9 (when compared to EMUI 8) this must be how my wife is configuring her apps. And yes, this does not work (didn't work on EMUI 8.1 either).

Could you please try do this test?
1 - Open a game, play a bit.
2 - Open the camera app (with AI option on by default).
3 - Switch to game to make sure it is at the same point as before.
4 - Switch back to camera app and take a picture.
5 - Switch bake to game and see if it's still at same point.
On my wife's phone, whenever she hits step 5, the game relaunches. That's pretty annoying if you're playing something that takes long to fully launches (like Pokemon GO).
after updating my honor play to emui 9 i noticed that the video stabilization feature is missing from the video settings of the camera. has anyone experienced this? it was there before the emui9, you can toggle the stabilization on/off but now it's missing.
Same issue, different phone, could be an android 9 issue, oddly enough it is also running November security patch.

Yeah, I've seen that, but since it's a Pie only issue, don't think is the same... Like I said, my wife is experiencing that aggressive ram management since Oreo. But let's hope this bring the issue some visibility and acknowledgement and, let's pray, a solution.

You had any luck sorting this out?
I have owned an Honor Play for about two weeks now and this issue is really annoying me. I will change my phone if it isn't fixed soon.
I did turn down the resolution from 2340 x 1080 (FHD+) to 1560 x 720 (HD+) and it seems as though it has freed up some RAM. Although I don't really want to look at my phone in 720p.
I guess this serves me right for thinking a £200 phone would be similar to a 2017 flagship.

Themes / Apps / Mods Rear Notifier App for Mi 11 Ultra

I love my Mi 11 Ultra. It's a fantastic device and the rear screen adds a fun element to a seriously, beastly phone — but I found it ridiculous that Xiaomi completely cut off access to any other apps besides their own when it comes to allowing notifications on the rear screen. No more! With some inspiration from GuyWithRootedPhone and his Mirror2RearUltra app, I created my own app that allows you to select any app on your Mi 11 Ultra to send notifications to the rear screen.

Features:
• Pick the desired apps for rear notifying quickly and easily with the made-from-scratch app picker.
• Allow Rear Notifier to restart automatically after reboot.
• Tons of customization!
• Change rear display timeout to beyond Xiaomi's 30 second cap.
• Privacy mode, when enabled hides notification details.
• Allow animations with different animation styles and durations.
• Customize the app notification's icon and text sizes to different sizes and colors with support for dynamic coloring based on the app's icon.
• And more!
Update 3.0: Always on Display!
• Clock module with complete gradient-color customizations and animations
• GIF/Image module with all kinds of customizations as well
• Weather module with (you guessed it) more customization!
Update 3.6: Android 13
Hey everyone! I apologize for the delay in updates, but I've been running another ROM and just busy with life. I came back to the newest version of MIUI to find the app wasn't starting the service and investigated. Many of you may have had the issue of the service never seeming to start. The issue stems from Android 13 automatically denying the posting of app notifications without explicit user consent. Being able to show a notification for the service is vital for Rear Notifier's function. To remedy this issue, I've added an additional required prompt to use the app so there's no confusion. From my testing thus far, everything seems to be working as expected.
The update is under review to the Play Store as I type (6/14/23 1:38 PM UTC).
Thanks for your patience!
Bugs squashed:
• Android 13 notification issue resolved (service will start now)
• Fixed issue with GIFs where setting the speed didn't affect the rear screen GIF's speed
• Optimizations and improvements
Bugs/Concerns
• Whenever a notification is sent to the rear screen from this app, it will cause the default clock to disappear until the native rear display apk chooses to refresh itself. At the moment, there's no way that I'm aware of to bring back the native clock on-demand, but that's what my own implementation of the clock is for
Developed and Tested on:
Device: Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra (Obviously)
ROM: Xiaomi.EU 14.09.0 Stable
Android Version: 13
MIUI Only!

Feel free to send me any ideas or issues you have on different MIUI versions and I hope all my fellow Mi 11 Ultra brethren enjoy!

Since the default clock is super buggy when using this app, I was thinking about adding my own customizable clock feature in the app, but I have a lot going on right now
so that isn't feasable at the moment. When I have time, I will most likely add it to the app in the future.

That's strange...it supports Android 12 and up and I double checked to make sure it was allowed in the Play store (of course it was). Also, I uninstalled my dev copy just to see what the Play store said and it allowed me to download it.
I'll attach the latest version that I just sent for review on the Play store minutes ago.
When you install it, and Xiaomi comes up with the "App from an unknown source", make sure to toggle on all the toggles to make it everything works properly.

In order to use the app, make sure you click the 'Start' button at the top right. You should then see a persistant notification in your notification shade. Clicking that starts the notification listening service. If you don't start the service, the app is useless. That's what the message means Try that.

First: Great idea, i'm waiting for long for some app like these. The crappy rear screen for me never never showas any notification from apps and timeout didn't work at all.
But second: I managed to start the service and send a test notification, but didn't get some messages from apps. But i couldn't set some apps as apps list is empty, it says fetching apps and then nothing. If i type in search field (say i type telegr..), i can see app field for a very little moment and it disappears. And (but sure, thats what you stated above) the rear clock is gone till i disable and enable it in settings.
So again, great idea and great app, but seems it needs some fixing (and own clock would be great as my timer doesn't work and sometimes clock stays forever using battery ;-) )
I'm on latest xiaomi.eu weekly (A13), so maybe thats the problem yet...
Many thx for developing this app, looks promising

Dang that's a weird one. If only MIUI wasn't so flakey with literally everything. I've had multiple people saying it worked great on the newest MIUI releases and a few where it's completely random bugs like that. Not sure what to say without logs though.
As for the clock — I have actually just coded a working implementation of the clock that has the same look and layout w/ the color gradients completely customizable along with a mostly-working weather screen. This will be in a vertical view pager implementation for easy access. I attached a mockup of how those will both look for most part.
I still need to code the UI for customizing the clock and weather though. Expect to see an update in the play store in a few days

Question How do you feel after the new update?

As topic mentioned, how's the battery performance, notifications or the camera changes?
For me pretty much the same as earlier update
If they could just fix the dark theme notification issues that'd be great.
Or give us the bootloader unlock so we can root and fix the phone ourselves would be ideal as well.
So far I deeply regret purchasing this phone due to missing notifications all the time.
Following as I'm curious about the changes too. Haven't pulled the trigger just yet as I need a functional device for now.
@blabba missing in what way? Sounds like something is not configured correctly. Besides floating notifications not working for WhatsApp, I receive all notifications as one would expect with no delays whatsoever.
Dark mode has not been fixed? What does this refer to then?

I told you already not to believe anything Vivo support promises, especially if you chat / speak with someone NOT using Chinese. Basically you could be talking to a wall too. This has been proven now countless times (vivo support promising fixes for dark mode / notifications / battery life / specific apps or whatever and never happened)
And to others - the dark mode fix is for the problems of the status bar previously being broken for some instances (I think until you switch to home screen) when moving being normal mode and dark mode. Some items were missing until you pressed home button (and maybe some other possibilites to trigger this - it was very rare).

Google messages don't show notifications in dark mode, same with most messaging apps I tried (discord, Ms teams, etc...)
I've configured them all with no battery savings, and enabling all notifications etc...
Ironically Whatsapp works fine but I think that's because vivo tests it as it's a popular messaging app in China.
I read on the older vivo x series phones if you change the theme to another English named dark theme, the notifications will work, but it's a mixed bag and I tried that and it didn't work for me so far.
This bug actually is not only in dark mode, but also on vibration mode and silent mode - in case of the later two it's by design.... - also affects connected devices like smartwatch which in those modes doesn't get notifications... (Haven't tested with last update if they fixed those later problems but as they are identical to dark mode I guess not)
Anyone know how to completely disable fingerprint sensor on the lockscreen when we touch it one time? That means it's working like an AOD and stay there all the time. I'm not talking about the option in the settings as turn off the fingerprint display. What I want is to only show the fingerprint display when I double tap on the lockscreen. Samsung has this feature for years to prevent touching the fingerprint sensor and open the phone while we are taking the phone out of the pocket.
Doesn't exist. Same as no option to turn off display on via touch. Missing this makes it impossible to use with screen off in rain as a bike navigation system...
You can only turn off display on by touch by disabling fingerprint all together, which isn't what I want in rain.... Vivo misses loads of such details when it comes to activating or deactivating hardware features.

Weird, I thought to implement it, they just need to throw in a few lines of codes. Like in Samsung, they have a switch to enable/disable fingerprint on the lockscreen to avoid waking up the screen accidentally. With this phone, everytime I take it out of my pocket, it wakes up the screen, even it unlocks the lockscreen if I put my thumb on the sensor area. Not a big deal for everyone, but for me it's annoying.

It was not Vivo that gave me false hope that the issue with Google wallet would be sorted with the next update. It was people in this forum. Not blaming anyone as I appreciate the help, and hope the security update helps other people. I seem to be f*cked though

If I were you, who use a lot of stuff related to google, I would choose S23U instead because OneUI is super stable, nice, smart and logical. I guess it's the best right now. I never have any problems with my S22U over a year until now. Just since I bought the X90P+, I need to deal with a lot of hassles.

Camera way ahead of the s23U. Google wallet is my only hassle. If I get this sorted, the phone is perfect.
I don't know what to do next though, other than changing bank.

I never use google wallet, so I don't know if this is a problem wide or just your bank. Will test out this evening and let you know later.

Okay I remember wrong then for this one. I just remember many people writing support told them notifications will be fixed or XYZ will be fixed and clearly nothing is happening there even though Vivo clearly knows about those things.
And yeah the only thing that pushes them to do something immediately is if it's mentioned by XiaoBai (Chinese reviewer also on YouTube besides Chinese social Media)

You can deactivate showing the fingerprint area to solve this. However then sometimes you will click in the wrong spot. The area is still too small for blind use to hit it right all the time
