Allow myself to introduce......myself - Off-topic

Hey everyone, I am new here and figured it would be good to introduce myself.
I have been a proud XDA/SX56/PPCP owner for about 3 months now, I started out with a Sidekick from TMO but after a week with the thing I noticed the PPCP so I exchanged it and haven't looked back since.
I presently work for Cingular wireless and unfortunately can't even use the thing on my own network thanks to Cingular not supporting the 900 freq in my market yet.
I stumbled upon this site about a week or so ago and have been reading up on virtually every post going back for damn near a month.
Sorry if I ask some n00b questions sometimes but please bear with me because I definitley search before I post

Welcome and hang in there as far as Cingular not supporting the 900 band. If memory servers me correctly there was a European / Asian radio stack that supported a lower band. You might also want to try changing the band from the boot loader and see if that helps.
In the mean time I'll see if I can located that 850 band RS for you, I know
I got notes on it somewhere!
HTH

wow, I appreciate it.

Just checked my bootloader and all I had was 900 and 1900.

Ok below is what I found in my notes regarding the 800/850 band:
"The VERY BEST combination ROM/RS for users in Asia/Pacific and probably also in Europe, is in my opinion and to my experience with all of them the combination of:"
ROM: 4.00.11 ENG
RSU: QTEK 3.25 or
RSU: O2 4.21 (Asian version from HKG)
So it appears that the QTEK 3.25 RS or O2 4.21 "Asia version" should do the trick.
For info on the 800/850 band take a look at the below site:
http://www.phonescoop.com/glossary/term.php?gid=115
BTW for some unknown reason T-Mobile RS 6.24.1 keeps
popping up in my mind as supporting the 800 band from the boot loader,
I might be wrong but thats also worth a look!.
In the mean time I'll keep digging!

Thanks alot for the help, would I specifically need the 4.00.11 ENG rom or would it work with my TMO official 3.14?

So I may be having difficulty connecting to cingular because it runs in the 850mhz band everywhere?

no worries but thx anyway i found it on emule it was just 2 files a nb1 file and a program i just but the ipaq into usb mode in bootloader then put on its crtadel and started the program took like 5 mins then done full reset and it worked great BT manager on it is very easy to control and use ive been playing around with file transfer with my pc and my 8910i on it
Gazz, will you do me a favor please? On that 3870 ipaq, can you look in the settings/system/asset viewer section and see what is says under "bluetooth" and also under "display". The other thing, can you switch on bluetooth then do soft reset and see if bluetooth initializes automatically or stall giving error, bluetooth must be on when you do the reset.
I seem to have lost the bluetooth revision number and version, also it thinks it isnt a colour screen.
ill have a look tomorrow at versions my dads in bed now so he wont want me going in to get his ipaq
but the BT when u soft reset it it comes up some error crap but turn it off then on then off again and its fine
colour works fine the whole thing works fine

radio 1.17.29.09 thread
Now the question is, which one is the most stable radio?
Share your experiences?
1.17 is for sure best in terms of not having the heating issues unlike 1.16
But 1.17 has been reported with random signal drops which i do totally agree as i've been using it, but it has not caused an issue to an extend that it drops my calls.
Its prob the radio that is able to reach most bars although it seriously varies from 1-3 bars randomly.
This is all based on Australia, somewhere in Melbourne btw.
I'm using Radio_1_16_25_48.zip
nice but the signal is weak
Put the rilphone files in here with em and you've got yourself a golden thread.
Personally I use 1.16.25.48 with the 1.14 rilphone, and I get 3-4 bars damn near everywhere in the south east. I even occasionally manage 2 bars at my mother's home, which is literally in a dead zone (even with the 2 bars, that only means texting. The moment you try to make a call, it drops to one bar and the call goes in and out, or it stops working entirely)

Thread Stuck.
The rilphones can be found at various places within these forums. I have 2 of em but they're on my flashdrive which is presently 120 miles south of my location (soon to be about 600 miles north of my location). When I get back from vacation though I'll send them to you if nobody else has posted them up.

the dll allows windows to interface with the hardware radio and a new radio firmware usually comes with a new rilphone.dll containing new or updated instructions/code
the dll is often packed as a cab file which you simply install, otherwise copy dll to \Windows folder, the cab does exactly that
the main radio-version threads should also contain the respective ril somewhere
does that answer your q how to use it?

Anyone try on Wind / Mobilicity yet?

This is probably a long shot since it's so early.
I've used AT&T / Rogers / Telus Notes on Wind and never get a download speed above 0.5mbps. It's unusable.
Was hoping TMobile's version would help
Is it just a software modem change? or are there actually hardware differences in the T879?
Thanks.

I am going to get my t-mobile galaxy note in a few days so I can report back how it works with Wind in Canada.
I've tried both. Wind is faster but only slightly. Both hit like 3 Mbps down and 1 up under perfect conditions, which is never. However we pay $25 for unlimited everything. Hard to complain. I find The VK1_test and jeet92's modems work best in burnaby and vancouver.
Edit: my response is based on the title. I failed to read that you asked about the Tmob note.

That is quite impressive actually.
Can I get more details? So you're running the stock T879 rom? and T879 modem?
Not the AT&T modem? Anything custom? If so, can you try with a custom AT&T rom and T879 modem?
Finally, have you tried putting back a bell/rogers sim card to see what speeds you can still get on their network?
Thanks in advanced
IM running the i717 note with the t879 Rom with the att modded i717 modem from post 2 of tomin thread. So the modem still shows up as TMobile radio but its working on att.note

T-879 with Wind
I am using the T-879 from T-Mobile with Wind for almost a week know , this one replacing t-mobile Galaxy SII T-989.
Phone came with ICS 4.0.4 and baseband T879UVLG3.
The reception is much better than SII on Wind. Download speed is somewhere around 7 mbps down and 1.5 ~ 2 mbps up , again doing better than SII
I switched to Mibilicity from Wind, phone and modem same as user Alicklee, I am going to try it and see. So far, at home, not much of a diff except that voice quality is better. haven't tested data speeds yet. My Wind at work was really bad, actually zero reception so will see monday, a colleague is on Mobi and has 2-3 bars.
Waiting for newer/better modem than the one from post #2 of the OP.

[Q] Would the T-Mobile HTC One work on Wind Mobile in Canada?

If I scavenge around this site and Google hard enough, I can find this question asked a few times, but none have definitive answers. This is a phone that I'm extremely interested in purchasing, as the Sony XPeria Z and Samsung Galaxy S 4 don't have an appeal remotely close to that of the HTC One's. Wind Mobile is a hard carrier to find phones for it seems, but I'd really love to use this phone on my network. Since the international and LTE variant lack the AWS 3G band to support Wind, would the T-Mobile version be compatible? On T-Mobile's website, it states that the UMTS Band IV is 1700/2100, which should be compatible with Wind's 3G network. I would just like to confirm this is true? Normally, I don't like to start new threads to a simple natured question like this, but I'm pretty much desperate to confirm whether or not I can use this phone. That way I'll know whether or not to get excited, or just stick with my S3. Thanks, it's much appreciated.

Was on wind in the past, yea it's hard to find devices for this carrier because it's strictly on AWS for its data and services.
The HTC One might work...but if I recall correctly you need 1700/1900/2100 frequencies for HSPA+ or something.
If it's anything like the original Galaxy Note, you may have to flash a radio or something to make it compatible with wind IF this phone is pentaband. If it isn't, f forget it because no amount of radio flashing will work if it the hardware doesn't support it.

I'm out of country right now, so once I'm back I will post it. By the way t-mobile uses the same bands as wind mobile, apart from having lte also. Other than that there's no differences...T-mobile one has 1700/2100/850/1900

Sorry if that wasn't clear, but the picture is actually linked to dropbox, if you follow it, you'll see that its a screenshot of my TMo HTC One working with the "WIND Home" carrier ID clearly visible.
Anyone know the Stock ROM/or RUU for WIND Mobile??

Yo does anyone know if this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2263788 applies to us on sprint? do we not have any updates yet?
even if it does, install a stock rooted rom that has a patched kernel

So it does though? I know you could just install a custom kernel. . but it might not be the latest.. seeing as that apparently its even enabled in the source.
yeah they are great when it comes to things like this....
But this makes me not glad I'm on Sprint

Yeah we just can't win. Meanwhile Verizon users will be pulling 20mb+
I was contemplating leaving Sprint, BUT LTE is going up all over the place here and depending on signal strength I get great LTE speeds.
Plus with my Sero plan, I'm glad I stuck with Sprint.

That's terrible speeds. Mine used to be slow but now my area has full LTE and I get speeds between 20 to 30 down and 5 to 8 up consistently. Plus unlimited makes it totally tje best.

i wish i was on the same boat:crying:
Okay, even if the T-Mobile variant is unlocked, most people will have a locked bootloader on their S4. Sprint's still the minority.
Update: *The T-Mobile Galaxy S4 currently has an unlocked bootloader, contrary to the company's statement to The Verge, we have reached out for more information. Thanks to François Simond and Justin Case for the correction.

Hopefully the AT&T/Verizon variants will be as easy to unlock as the S3 was on Verizon. It didn't seem to take too long for the S3/Note 2 to have their bootloader unlocked.
S4 on Sprint so far.
Hey there... about Sprint:
Was pretty happy with picking up my S4 from Sprint.
Went to check it out on the second day of sales. They said, "Oh, we just sold the last one a couple hours ago."
I was all like, "Oh crap, and I wasn't going to come at all because I thought they would be sold out."
The guy said, "We will have more tomorrow"
So I came back the next day and got one!

Sprint appears to be the most loving when it comes to XDA or Rootz development.

This is what is confusing to me. If it is 100% up to the carriers (like everyone keeps saying) on whether a device is locked or not than how come they lock one device and not the other? Things that make you go Hmmmm.
