How to stop button lock coming off? - PDA2, XDA IIi, 2020i General

I have an XDA IIi from O2, and I use button lock when its in my pocket. However, when I receive a message the button lock is turned off... This ends up with me coming to the device in my pocket on some random page or program that has been started whilst its in my pocket...
This is really annoying, does anyone know how to prevent button lock from coming off when I receive a message?
Thanks.
P.S. - just typed this on my XDA in the middle of a lecture!

Its a real pain in the ass !!
Only solution i found is to turn on the password, set it to 3 mins or so.
That way if you get a message it will only find its way to the password input screen

WM5 just beeps and flashes the light on sms, I wonder if this is a registry thing we can change?

XDA2i o2 removed screen auto on ?

Ok I have a XDA2i from o2 I have removed the o2 bits as per this forum.
However every now and then the screen will illuminate all on its own, which is a problem when in your pocket as things start operating as keys etc touch the screen.
Any ideas on why and how to stop it...
before you say it yes the keylock is set!
unfortunatly i dont know any way to stop this from happening.
When you recieve a TXT or a voice call it turns the screen on automatically.
the only solution i found to prevent me from activating programs etc is to turn the device password on, set it to 1 minute so everytime your PDA wakes itself up in yur pocket it cannot do anything except press password keys.
tks i guess that will help.
however the point is it is turning itself on and there is no reason ie no txt or phone call!
Press and hold in the power button, and that should turn the screen off until you turn it back on.

Tilt Annoyance

Hello all,
I just got my AT&T Tilt and love it so far, except for one major annoyance. When I press the power button, the device will turn the screen back on after a few seconds to a few minutes. The problem is when it's in my pocket, it can accidentally call people. My 8125 and 8525 did not experience this issue.
Any suggestions?
Thanks!
Button lock
It sounds as though the phone isn't set to lock all buttons except the power button when it is in standby. This happened to me last time I re-flashed my Wizard, and I couldn't figure out for ages why my battery was draining so quickly as well!
Settings > Buttons > Lock
Hmm, not seeing any option under Buttons or Lock. I do remember this setting from WM5. It does appear, however, that the buttons are not turning the phone on, it's just waking up even if I leave it on a desk.
You can add lock to the home screen
first press and hold the hang-up button so that it locks. Then just push the power button once. This puts it in standby.
There is a idle timeout for going on standby mode, but I can't find a setting to auto-lock.

Are you paired to a Bluetooth device? I see similar behavior in my 8525 when in my car - the BT car kit does stuff which "wakes" the 8525

Try this leaving Google Maps On the Screen
Hi Guys,
I get this behavior when I have Google Maps running. It will even cycle the screen on and off a couple times.
nope and nope. just sitting on the today screen.

I have the very same problem.
However, my girlfriend whom I also bought a Tilt for, her's doesn't do it.
We've installed all the same software too, so I'm a little puzzled.
start>settings>system> key lock. set it to lock all buttons except power.

Hmmm.. yeah, umm my key lock is already set to lock all buttons except power.
The problem isn't with when you press a button it comes on. The problem is the phone turns on by itself, sitting on a table, nothing being pressed, no new email, no new sms, just lights up and that's it.

Any number of applications might be starting the device, from weather apps to calendar, diary, time sync etc etc. For example, HTCs weather app will do it depending on how often you have it set to another example I came across from someone was TREO ALERTS that contains a script "refresh.mscr" and it was set up refresh time 30 seconds (this was turning his TyTn II on by itself).
Mike
hard reset and try again.
i'm betting that none of these suggestions were helpful (except the one about some application generating a wakeup event without any other visual notifications).
i was having the same problem, but i just tried to narrow down which running program was causing the events. it's one of:
* wireless manager
* messaging
* IM
my guess is IM; i'm going to test that out in a second.
well, it's none of the above. still seems to wake up randomly anywhere from 15 seconds to several minutes.
seems to happen more frequently when it's just been turned off.
Even if you were to find what was turing the phone back on, this can still be a problem just from normal use... obviously, you WANT the phone to turn on for things like a call coming in. The solution for people like us who stick our phones in our pockets is to "lock" the phone. But for whatever reason, the Tilt doesn't lock the phone while holding down the end key. That means the only convenient way to lock it is to keep the lock function on the today screen, wasting space. Hopefully someone can find a way to allow the end key to lock the device on the Tilt just like the unbranded device.

i'm fine with using the lock function, but it still turns on randomly, using battery, and eventually unnecessarily yellowing the screen from backlight aging. my next approach is to check out the notification queue, using a notification cleaner app.
So i am having a similar problem. When i press the power button, the phone's screen turns off but when the keyboard slides, it turns back on... is there a way to make it so the keyboard sliding does not turn on the device? I think the keyboard slides around a little when in my pocket and i hate pushing 3 buttons to unlock my phone... thanks
I was having the same problem.
This is an issue with the ATT rom. Flash over HTC rom and you will be all set.
I have been having the same problem as well. I just installed this DeviceLock program:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=305402
If you enable the "Lock on Wake" option, the device will be locked when it wakes up, so the backlight stays off and you won't call anyone by accidentally hitting buttons.
Also, I ran across this related thread you might want to check out (basically talking about the same thing, but for the TyTn II):

Keylock imideately after hanging up a call

Hi.
I have an odd behaviour of my S730/Wings. Say i make regular phonecall. No matter how long it is, 5 seconds or 5 minutes, the moment i hang up the call, the keyboard lock kicks in. A co-worker with the same phone doesn't have this issue, and i cant seem to figure out a way to switch it off. It is rather annoying
Anyone know how to solve this issue, so that the phone locks up only when left alone for some time, or with holding down the red button?
Any help is deeply appreciated
- Ulyd
When you end a call... are you holding the end call (red) button, or just tapping it?
I just tap it, i'm aware of the hold-down-red-button-to-lock-keypad. So i cant understand why it locks up...

Lock Screen or put into "standby"? Best set-up?

Hey guys,
Right, I've come over from symbian, namely UIQ and the SE P-series, so am used to things being somewhat different. The main issue I don't seem to be able to find a solution to is the screen locking problem.
Essentially, at the moment I push the power button to lock the device, as well as enter a power save mode. I have to say, I like the way that works. However, when I recieve a call (or text with the reg fix) the phone comes to life, great, but say I miss the call, or the phone is in my pocket, the screen is now ACTIVE. Not good news.
How am I supposed to lock this device properly? Screen lock and then the power button? Can't I get a simple tap on the power button to lock and power save the device?
Essentially, if I have a missed call or message I just want the phone to vibrate once, then keep an LED flashing intermittently. But I want the screen to stay LOCKED.
Any help would be much appreciated, and thanks for all the other useful tips on the forum!
Cheers,
Daz.
Go start/settings/System/Long Press End Key
Select automatically execute etc
and Lock device
then OK
then, a long press on the hang up button (bottom right) will lock the phone.
Hope that helps
Perhaps I didn't explain myself. I know how to lock the phone, but how do I make use of the power button tap mode? In other words, the power saving mode?
Can I set up a button that locks the phone, AND sends it to power save mode? (or "turn it off" as WM seems to call it).
Thanks again,
Daz.
I found a regedit in:
HKLM\Software\HTC\KeyLock\SameAsDeviceLock
Set it to 1, but it doesn't do the trick. In fact, it now causes the power button click to not lock the keys.
I suppose the only option is to have standby mode come on after a timeout, lock the device, then it will go into standby on its own. Seems like a slight waste of battery to me!
Cheers,
Daz.
I really want this to work too,
It should unlock and turn on when recieving a call, it should just turn on when recieving an sms (so you can have a quick look from who it is, and then unlock to reply)
and when you lock the device it should automatically turn off...
Not EXACTLY what you want, but S2U2 in the "Development and Hacking" section will improve matters for you.
When you turn the phone off with the power button, S2U2 kicks in. Then:
1) If you turn the phone back on, you'll get the slide to unlock screen.
2) If a call comes in, the phone turns on and you see the caller ID (with full screen picture, if you so desire) on a "slide to answer" screen. The S2U2 default settings ensure that the phone turns itself back off again if you fail to answer it.
3) If a text / e-mail / mms comes through, it notifies you but remains off... When you hit the power button, the "slide to unlock" screen will show missed calls, text messages, e-mails (and even the weather if you want...).
Check it out, it's an essential piece of software in my opinion... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=381588
Thanks sub69, great recommendation. However, does anyone else get the bug when hitting the "x" in other applications to close them, the status bar (Or task bar) goes all scrambled and looks like the S2U2 status bar.
Shame this isn't built in though, would be nicer to see the TF3D interface rather than a 3rd party one.
Thanks again!
Daz.
Anyone with other suggestions? S2U2 is just a little too buggy at the moment on the diamond...
use "BatteryStatus" from www.chti-tai.info, they have a option for devicelock on wakeup, so even u missed a call, and the screen light up, it is still locked.
somone posted this on other thread.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Now we don't need any devicelock software with diamond.
If you want automatic lock your diamond you have to change this registry key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\BackLight\AutoDevic eLockEnable from 0 to 1 and everytime your backlight goes off automatically your device are locked
Sorry for may bad english but i'm italian.
Ciao
Thanks for that reg fix, seems like a good option. There was a new S2U2 version release, 1.5, and that seems to work well for me. Will see how that goes for now...
Cheers guys! Daz.
the reg edit is good, but it doesn't solve the problem of unlocked touchscreen prone to being pressed during incoming call (when scrambling in your pocket to take out the phone)
btw there are several other threads where this problem is addressed and deeply analyzed (without a complete working solution, however...)
dazbradbury take a look at sensorlock, if you have not already.

Diamond unlocks itself, hardware problem?

Basically I had a look about here and can't see anyone else with the same issue.
I've not long had the phone and the other night I had a call quite late saying I'd been phoning them 5 times. I'd locked my phone but when I looked at it it was awake and unlocked.
I can lock my phone (hold down the end call key) but with a bit of movement to the phone it brings up the unlock screen and unlocks itself.
This also happens if I lock the phone and turn off the screen with the power button. After a little shake about the phone will turn on and unlock itself.
You can imagine the problems this can cause whilst in my pocket.
I've not messed with the firmware yet or even any registry entries, it's as it was from HTC.
I am having this same issue with mine. I hold down the End key for a few seconds to lock, it locks successfully, but if I move my finger a bit and touch any other part of the surface it unlocks almost instantly. Sometimes the lock remains, but it's more likely that it will get unlocked.
I tried using TouchLockPro, but that didn't seem to help me much (it seems like it's not even functioning, actually). I'm running A.Z.T.O.R. V7 WWE ROM.
Nick
Have you tried going to settings then hitting "key lock". On the screen that comes up check the first option "lock all buttons except power button".
Works fine for me - when I switch off screen using power button everything is locked (buttons and screen) until I hit power button again or I get an incoming call.
Mine is set to that, but it doesn't seem to have much effect.
Sometimes I will hit the power button to shut the screen off and later when I pull it out of my pocket the screen is on and something (e.g. Calendar, System Time, etc) is open. During the period it was in my pocket I received no calls or texts.
When I try to hold the end key to lock the phone, it will lock it for ~1 second and then automatically unlock it. Doing it a second or third time will usually get a lock that "sticks" (at least for a while).
There has to be a good solution for this out there, but I've tried PocketShield and TouchLockPro without luck.
Nick
Diamond unlocks itself
I have this problem as well. I went to a meeting, locked my phone and it made 20 calls to my friend abroad, so I am really pissed, it happened before but I thought it was because it got knocked in my handbag.- Please help
Also my battery life has depreciated in a big way, at first 24 hours , 4 months later I'm lucky if it's lasting 6 hours and that's without making a call. I've turned of wi-fi, 3G etc. What is happening
Use sensorlock its great if you set it to unlock when you take the stylus out and relock when u slide it back in

TouchLockPro should just work. In post #5 alternatives are mentioned (and also why the built-in Windows Mobile lock is not a solution for your problem)!
