Experience with DualSim in Treo 750 - Palm Treo 750 Accessories

I have a work SIM and a private SIM and really do not want to carry two phones around. In my previous two models of regular (not-smart) phones I used one of those dualsim cards where you cut our the center of each sim and slip them into a new sim card with some extra electronics on it. You can then switch between the sims with a couple of key presses or even at automatic time intervals. eg. http://duosim.com/
OK, so I have two different makes of this type of dual-sim card and tried each one in the 750. The switching program shows up in the phones menu and it looks like it is going to work but it does not. When you try to switch to the second sim, the phone switches off and back on, but the the phone is still using the first sim.
I really want to find a way to get this to work. I have ordered one of those multi-sim card cloners (same link as above), in the hope that will work differently.
Has anyone found a solution to this ? Either a particular make of dual-sim or multi-sim cloner that works or maybe a tweak to get past the above mentioned problem ?

Hi gajsler,
I found myself being in the same situation: Want to use both office and private Sims with my Treo.
After some research I can say that it depends mostly on the combination of SIMs you are using. If you are using any UMTS/3G SIMs then a digital DualSim-application wouldn't do trick, especially if you are using a H3G-SIM (Hutchison 3G).
You will need an analog DualSim-holder for these SIMs.
I've got one from HongKong (Ghost SIM, no cutting) but it doesn't work correctly. Only the first SIM card is being used ... don't know how to get past this issue.
Seems to be tricky. Will post any additional experiences.
Greetz,
TreMax

Two sim cards ?

Does anyone know if there is a way to use two sim cards at the same time in the Kaiser ? I know that an adapter exist but I don't know if it would fit in the Kaiser ...
Thanks !
If you know more. Please share it with us.
Have you actually seen the sim card holder on a kaiser? its small and only room for one sim (even if you have ribbon cable from it to a 2 sim splitter) the lock mechanism stops any cable coming out so it would have to double back on the sim and come out the side and the side of the sim cover would need shaving to allow that and then on the back the form is moulded for the clearance of the keyboard so even if you stuck it to the back of the screen you will end up snagging it when opening and closing the keyboard.
if someone makes one that works then I will gladly take back what i said above however don't hold your breath.

I had a ghost Dual SIM adapter for my O2 XDA Exec & needed to cut each SIM down and place in a special Dual SIM holder which was the size of a single SIM. It worked fine, but I haven't had the nerve to cut up another couple of SIMs now that I've got a new T-Mobile VARIO III

Did that really work? The Kaiser just doesn't support dual SIM(IMHO).
Do you have to switch, or can you be called on 2 SIM's at the same time?
And how do you define the SIM to make the outgoing call?
I'm interested!
Yes, the ghost Dual SIM adapter seems interesting ...
Dual sims
I use them for thre last two years and stopped as they are a battery drain on the phones.
-No you cannot use them at the same time, you need to flick one on and off.
-Handy but not worth battery drain
Network operators may create a service where two numbers (from the same operator) are active on one sim. Perhaps this is not the ideal solution but workable. I believe that TIM and/or Vodafone in Italy (although I'm not from there) provide such a service.

Orange in the UK provide this service. By pressing the # it switches froms one line to the other to make calls. Calls/SMS can be received on either line regardless of which line is selected for outgoing calls
I have a analogue dual-sim-adapter from http://www.hot-wire-telekom.de working in my Kaiser.
It's working fine with one problem: The operator names are not shown right. The problem was also known with the Artemis, but solvable by a registry change. This change is not working on the Kaiser, because the needed registry key is not present.
Does anyone have a solvation for that?

I have the same problem, also using an ana

I'm just waiting for HTC to make a handset like the Kaiser with dual sim slots, its a complete pain when I'm in work carrying a work one. Might be worth suggesting it to them, don't know how much they keep an eye on these sort of forums.

The todayplugin.cab doesnt work for me. How do you switch the network?
any updates on this?
how to stitch sims
yeah, I have an o2 flame, and I'm wondering how you choose which sim you want to make an outgoing call on? And can a incoming call come to either of the sims or do you have to switch something?
I recall seeing special tools out there allowing you to copy several sim cards onto one single one. Then when you turn on the phone, you can chose which "virtual" card gets powered up. Check it out on ebay.
do you have a name? for this tool/app ?
edit:
i found something : http://www.duosim.com/supersim.html
will that work?
Look up SIMORE on the web. The adapters have not been fully tested for Kaiser yet (P4550) but as it works on most other HTC units it should be available soon. Also gives many other functions.
This is another snip ya sim system but comes with two adapters to turn them back to full size when needed.
Hope this helps.

Dual Sim is compatible with Kaiser

any1 tested?
I want too, but i want to be sure the today plugin is working correctly
Also if you are roaming, will it switch automaticly ? Or do you need to manually switch provider?
wow that looks pretty good...
i am really interested too....
i think it switches automaticly.
anybody?? this sound really good
Word of advice, while I've been investigating various dual/multi-SIM solutions available on the net, it's become apparant that many of these are quite "fishy". I.e. they don't work as advertised. A lot of issues especially with the newer 3G-SIMs. When it comes down to Simone, they are incredibly expensive and also get quite some pepper on various forums. Don't be fooled by a fancy website
If you absolutely do want to test out a dual-sim solution its probably better to risk a way cheaper solution from e-bay as it seems its mostly the same one or two producers behind most of these products, just sold by many different people/resellers.

i have used the dual sim adapter without succes. it seems that cutting the original sims has to be done very acurate which i did but no results. Also a lot of pressure has to be aplied on the sims/apapter for good contact otherwise it would work.
may be in near futere i would like to try a non-cut version.
cheers, Steven
There is another way to do this : instead of inserting two, cut, sim cards, you just insert one sim card but programmed with two different sim cards.
I made a thread about this, I just wanted to know if anyone had experience in that : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=349410
This sim card programmer can be found here :
http://www.duosim.com/supersim.html
As it's not very expensive, it could be interesting to test it.

The problem with this thing is that it cannot backup the newer SIMs. I tried this with my Cingular 3GSM SIM and it would not work. It only works with older SIMS. So if you have two older SIMs you could be in business.

I am using Simore card in my Kaiser for 2 months now...
FYI, Simore cards do not support 3G protocols: I had problems with it (freezes, no access to 3G or 3G+) and phoned Simore company and they confirmed it. I can only use Edge as the best protocol available for data.
For avoiding any problem of freezing, you need to set in the "band" index of the phone parameter menu the type of network you use (GSM or CDMA) instead of leaving the default "automatic" choice. You can leave "auto" for "GSM /UMTS" Band parameter (even though Simore told me to set the first choice: "GSM (900+1800)+UMTS (2100)"...)

This is true. It is not yet possible to copy a 3g sim. Someday the code in the sim will be cracked though.

Hi there,
would like to ask you several quick questions:
1. are you mounting two GSM SIM-cards on your SIMore?
2. are you using "SIMore Gold #1" model for the adapter?
please advise (laubet / anyone that has tried it before).
thanks for the reply.
kaiser wrking with gold simore 1
I finall figured out how to get this dual sim card to work. You need to first manually switch the network. For me its T-mobile and AT+T. Once you manually choose the network, then use the sim program to choose the appropriate sim card. For some reason automatic selection of network does not work. Any other way hangs card, or makes network unavailable.

is it possible / room enough to use a dual sim ?

i like to know if there is room enough above the sim to use a duosim from duosim.xcom ?
Anyone an idea?
come on , is there any room to place a dual sim ?
Oh, wow. That stuff looks cool. Now I'm curious too.
Yes, there should be room enough.
So, I've tried it and yes it fits but it doesn't work.
The TD has 8 connections to the SIM card and the Magic Sim (www.dual-sim.nl, 16th cut version) has 6 connections. It is 16th gen card which they propose to use for smartphones....
It works on my old Nokia 6021. This phone has 6 connections to the SIM Card.
The cutted SIM Card doesn't work anymore on the TD so I have to purchase a new one. I have sent a mail to dual-sim.nl. I will post the outcome.
number of contacts is irrelevant. Only 6 contacts are used for sim cards, the last 2 are RFU (reserved for future use).
If i read you right, after you cut up your sim card it doesnt work anymore? even directly in the phone without the dual sim? If thats the case your broke your sim while cutting it. The dual sim may or may not work still.
The cutted SIM doesn't work in the TD but does work in the Nokia 6021.
The Magic Sim doesn't work in the TD but does work in the Nokia 6021.
So, my assumption was that the cut is the reason that the SIM card doesn't work anymore on the TD. Strange that it still works in the 6021??
No, there is an incompatability between the magic sim and the touch diamond it sounds like. Only 6 contacts on the sim are used, the last two do nothing.
So if it works fine in your 6021 and not the TD, then its the magic sim that has the problem.
What error do you receive? no sim/insert sim?
SIM card is seen, Magic Sim program is available in teh TD but it doesn't register to the network.

Hmm thats really strange. What happens when you manually register?
It lists the available networks. KPN (my provider) in one of the them. If I try to connect to this netwerk the same thing occurs: can't register... I can try another network (roaming)?
Hmm that means the IMSI is not being passed corectly.
Sounds like a bug with the multisim itself. Another brand might work.
Not all new USIM cards works fine.
Put your phone on GSM mode instead of WCDMA or Auto.
Then the Dualsim works fine.

Due to your questions I tried it again and came to the conclusion that the cutted SIM card didn't work in the TD because it didn't contacted completely. I also saw a different kind of slide for the Magic Sim which leads to a better contact of the Magic Sim to the TD and now everythong works!!
Thanks someone1234 for taking the effort ask further

Thats great! no problem.
Does the Dual-sim 16th gen. non-cut version also fit into the TD?
I don't think my employer will appreciate it if I would cut my KPN sim-card of my company phone...
anyone tried the 20th gen dual sim adapters yet?

Using Dual Sim Card Adaptor With Himalaya

Hello
Did some one uses dual sim card adpaptor for using 2 number at the same time online ? with the Himalaya ? if so, which ? Thanks
Hey,
I think it should be possible. The most dualsim adapters are changing the sim card after a reboot.
have a nice day,
gustl

It is NOT possible to use 2 numbers online at the SAME time with only ONE Receiver Transmitter Unit. Its just technically impossible.
You can use a Dual (multiple) SIM-Adaptor , but there is only ONE sime at the time active. You can change the active SIM by disactivating/activating Radio or by a tool.
It's possible to use a dual-SIM adapter on all and any phones (in theory), and it functions exactly as what gustl has said. But the hard part is finding the right one so it fits in to the back of the phone. GL finding the right one that can fit right on the Hima, considering how tightly packed the back of the Himalaya is.
But i think the question was in deed it is possible to habe two numbers online at the SAME time, with a dual Sim Adaptor, and this is NOT possible.
There are some phones in the Market with two GSM Units. They all have the same problem double GSM Units equals double Power consuption, your standby time decreases dramatically.
Using a Dual SIM Adaptor is a good alternative two have possibilty to change between two Sim Cards, BUT there is only ONE Oneline at a time. (What should be good enough for 99% of us). If you really need a second SIM active i would prefer a small second mobile. (Just my 2 cents)
Dual SIM adapters use SIM toolkit to switch between SIM's. As there is no working STK for WM6.1 on Hima it will NOT work.
Possible for 2 sims to be toggled at one go using dual sim adapter
Sorry for posting this reply a bit late, just came across this thread today. With regards to your query as to whether dual sim adapter will be able to toggle 2 SIMS at one go, my answer is yes. I've done it before with my O2 XDA II but unfortunately I’m unable to do it now once I upgraded my rom to 1.60.00 WWE. Only one rom version for himalaya will be able to do it but till now I'm unable to locate it. The version I'm referring to is 1.52.00 WWE. If anyone happen to have or stumble upon this rom, appreciate if you could either upload it or point it to me as where I can locate it.

Dual sim card adapter for X1?

Hi,
Tried using the search function here but nothing came up in the X1 forums. I have been thinking about getting the X1 but given my normal needs, I need access to two numbers during the day.
Is anyone already using a dual sim adapter (cut or uncut version) or knows of a reliable one for the X1?
Thank
Hi
I just ordered one the other day. When I get it i'll report if its any good or not!

How do you plug it?
You must remove the battery cover.
Hi
I think its the usual "saw up your sim cards" job, then fit the important bits into a holder thats the same size as a normal sim, then stick this in the sim slot.
For the most part switching between sims involves powering off/on the phone. I did have one in the distant past that would swap sims when you set it to flight mode then back out again.
We shall see, it was only £6 quid iirc.

Ps. could you share link. I also wanna buy a good one.
please tell us of the HSDPA works with the dial sim card thing because most of the time only 3G is supported
Any news?????
So what happened?
Anyone know if there are adaptors which will always use one SIM card unless told otherwise (rather than switch when power-off)? Ta.
i guess no updates on this but i did see this:

Do dual sims work in the X1?
I'm using the dualsim adapter of simore in my xperia
switching from sim1 (vodafone) to sim2 (simyo/eplus) works realy fine - it durate max 15 seconds
but switching back to sim1 making sometimes trouble...so that i has to softreset the phone
i dont know if that is a global problem with the xperia and the simore adapter or if somethin is damaged in the simcards/adapter?!
additional i have to change the sms service number after changing the simcards...
has someone problems with that too? or a better solution?
sorry for bad english O
Simore
Yeh, Simore are meant to be the best, I was looking to get one also but for the good Simore one you are looking at paying 70euros which is far too much.
Unfortunately, the design of the Xperia means it is only possible to use Sim Adapters that chop the sim card to pieces and fit them in the size of 1 sim.
Edit: http://www.simore.ch/en/mobile_phone_accessory/Sony-Ericsson/Xperia-X1.html
Curious to know if that works on Kaiser. They are charging exorbitantly high. wish to know if there are any other reliable agencies offering same service. Cheers.
I ordered few different models from eBay but either of them didint work. If someone succeeds on this please report.
I had an older dual-SIM adaptor that I've been using for the last couple of years. I tried it in the X1 and it worked okay (flight mode to switch). The problem was that it didn't support any 3G at all, so in a 3G area it was constantly attempting to get a 3G lock, dropping the signal, then trying to get a lock again. In the end I had to disable HSDPA.
Then I got a new SIM from O2. I just put the SIM in directly without the adaptor. BLAM! Better signal and HSDPA access. So I've been on the lookout for another adaptor that still allows for switching but supports HSDPA. I keep ending up at simore.ch as well and wonder if their "Black 1" is up to the task. I don't want to pay out €40 just to see if it works though... I need to hear from someone else who has bought one and used it for HSDPA access.
So the question is who will bell the cat. None of us are eager to try it out. So would like someone with his experience to come over here & let others know if it was a success or not. I am interested in kaiser utility.Cheers
i have to disable hsdpa and umts while using my simore black1 adapter...if hsdpa is enabled the connection always broke down
it show the symbol that the signal is good and after 30-60seconds my xperia search for signal...endlessly...
i dont know if that is a problem with one of my sims (but without the sim adapter they both connect to hsdpa) or if that is a problem of simore
i think the last one
It's the sim adaptor.
My old one does EXACTLY the same thing. It attempts to get a H or 3G lock, then loses the signal and recycles back again. It sounds like simore are just the same as the £6 one that I got from eBay 2-3 years ago.
I just cannot understand why it's so problematic to build a sort of cartridge (like those dual-SIM adapters) with two EEPROM of Flash elements inside and sell it together with a USB SIM reader-writer?
So any basic user could copy his/her two SIMs to this cartridge and skip all the mess with improper cutting and loosing two SIMs?
AFAIK any SIM could be fully read. Why it cannot be simply copied?
I've got very cheap dual sim adaptor (11th generation) and it fully works in new itje's ROM. I also copied STK from this ROM to memory card and tried it in older itje's ROM Touck-It 4.0 RC1.1 I could connect to internet via HSDPA and simply switch SIMs, so you don't need too expensive SIMORE adaptor.
Edit: I have tested internet connection short time and I didn't have signal lost, I'm out of credit right now but I will report more after I'll top-up and do more tests.
(sorry for my poor english)
