TomTom 6 and Xda IIi hangs all the time! - PDA2, XDA IIi, 2020i General

About 2 weeks of testing and still frustrated. I dont get TomTom 6 and Xda IIi to work fine. Everything works fine, installation, gps connection, poi an so on. The BIG problem is while i´m driving. Suddenly after for ex 3 min, 10 min, 28 min or 55 min the TomTom hangs. Then it works again after a soft reset and then it hangs and so on...
I´ve tried change ROM on the XdaIIi, tried TomTom 5 but the problem is still there.
I Use GPS Globalsat BT-338, Xda IIi ROM ver 1.11.00 WWE, SD card 1GB Kingston x50 and TomTom 6 (ver 6.030).
Any proposal? I´ve read some suggest faster SD card?

Works fine on mine, my SD card is a 4Gb 150x one. It may be another piece of software you have installed that is causing the issue. If you can back it all up I would test it on a clean install without the o2 front end ie corporate install but it may be your card.

i´ll try a faster XD.

I had troubles till I gained a disk by a Gentleman called Plasma from another place I cleared out the previous incantations and installed his works like a dream no problems even picks up my shortcut knowledge very quickly (I used to be a Transport Manager and am one of those horrible people with a map in my head for major routes) I use it mainly for the last couple of miles or the one or two places I don't know but mainly for the POI i.e. the speed camera's(I may be an old git but I like to travel reasonably fast)

3 possibilities I can think of:
1.) If this is a fairly recent install of TomTom 6 it might just not happen to like the particular SDcard you are using for the maps - I've heard some people find much faster cards give fewer/no crashes.
2.) Having too many POI files selected to display. Mine goes all unstable if I have more than about 25 different ones ticked to display on the map.
3.) sometimes the TomTom cfg gets corrupted, 'losing' my home locations and I am unable to set it...it gets tetchy & sometimes crashes out. The answer is to delete TomTom Navigator.cfg in the Navigator folder in Programs - TomTom will re-create a fresh one when you start and you go through the setups again, but hopefully without it crashing.
hope these are of some help
Joe

I had the same problem.
Changed the SD card to: "Transcend 2GB" and TomTom6 works perfectly on 2020i

Seems like Xda IIi freeze no matter how fast the SD is (with all tomtom version) if using SD and SIM card plugged in.
Change to MMC or take off SIM card then no more system hang.

Now I´ve test with SD card Extreme III. The problem i still there.
I know a few places where it hangs every time i drive past. Exactly the same position at the map. Very strange.
I deleted all pois, same **** again.

a lack of GPS signal can cause a map to "Hang" / "lock Up" and favorites for this are the Bluetooth GPS units

TomTom are looking into the TT5 and GPRS Freeze!

Below I have copied all the emails sent and recieved regarding this problem with my XDA2i and TT5 Freezing when I try to use GPRS to Downlaod Traffic. See responses and be assured Tomtom seem to be looking into it!
Cheers
Lee
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dear Tomtom,
I have a major problem with my XDA2i and the TT5 Traffic updates. When ever I try to use my GPRS connection on the move to download your Traffic Updates that I have subscribed to, TomTom 5 Freezes. The PDA still works when TT5 freezes, I know this because I can use one of the hardware buttons to exit TT5 and open the Calendar. If I do this TT5 remains running in the background and cannot be stopped until I reset the XDA2i. At all times the GPS Bluelight is lit up as if it is connected.
I have paid for a 1 year subscription for the Traffic Updates and kindly ask you to either fix the problem or refund my traffic subscription money.
The Traffic Updates cannot be downloaded therefore it is very unfair that I have to pay for a service I can not use as intended.
I am pleased to see that you now support the XDA2i and look forward to hearing from you very soon.
http://www.tomtom.com/products/compatibility.php?ID=109&Language=1
By the way, I have installed the latest TT5 5.10 update and the new O2 ROM v1.11.162 update for the XDA2i, it still doesn't work properly. My SD Card is a Corsair 1GB SD1GBA0506H3S37WN and I have tried it using a 512mb SD card. I have even tried the Corporte install on the XDA2i and that doesn't work either.
Tomtom 5 is a very worthy upgrade over the TT3 version and I thankyou for providing a product that is Far better than ever before, I just wish you could sort this Freeze problem out.
Look forward to hearing from you.
Thanks
Lee
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Just thought i'd tell you that when the XDA2i TT5 Freezes if I removed the SD card it imiediatley starts working again! Then what I do is reinsert the SD card, the only probelm is, the Map is on the SD card and by removing it makes it lose the map on screen and cannot be recoverd unless I exit TT5 and Restart again.
It looks like it may be a SD card issue, the problem is I have tried many different SD cards, 512mb, 1gb 60x speed and now ive got a new SD card 1gb Sandisk Ultra III 133x speed and that still freezes.
Any ideas to which will work?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dear Mr Donnellan,
We are looking into this issue. Could you please write us the ROM version you have installed on your XDA2i?
We thank you in advance for your cooperation.

Hi,
In response to your answer to my question please find the Detaisl you have requested below:-
ROM Version: 1.11.00 WWE
ROM Date: 01/27/05
Radio Version 1.00.00
Protocol Version: 1337.39
ExtROM Version: 1.11.162 WWE
I updated to this rom to try and fix the issue as the original ROM from O2 didn't work as far as TT5 is concerned. I could run the TT5 program but was slightly more unstable than it is now.
Thanks
Lee
The same happens with mine too (Or used to) i havnt had chance to check if it still freezes as often after i updated to the new ROM version but the one that includes the newer Radio ROM version.
I found that if you take out the sd card then re-insert it quickly, it continues on fine, no Map loss.
The freeze problem is almost certainly to do with the Radio locking up the SD somehow, which should be up to O2 (or HTC) to sort out.
I find my phone freezes sometimes when i recieve a call, but removing the SD card sorts the problem.
As i said ... i've not ad the chance to test TomTom since i updated but, i havnt had ANY lockups or freezes with calls since.
I feel like crying
At last someone else with the same problem. I can add a little though: -
I have a panasonic 128MB card which works with traffic perfectly, I have 2 x 1GB SD cards, 1 PNY and 1 Viking both of which fail to update the traffic information - exactly the same, remove the card and everything seems to clear up. What I can't understand is that if I use my Panasonic card it works perfectly even if just before the reboot it would not work with one of the 1GB cards no reinstallation of TOMTOM or changing of any of the settings. Not sure if it is size or quality related ? The cards all work as "simple satnav cards" perfectly.
The other point is that if I am not connected to the BT reciever (I plan a route and then run a demo as an example) all of the cards work perfectly.
They only fail when the GPS information is availible.
Kind Regards
Dave Cook
I downloaded the 5.10 upgrade in the hope it would solve my xdaii freezing up every time i got a phone call, but it is still the same . In tt5 when the upgrade is installed is the Version (5.00 - 5.10) supposed to change ?? as mine stay's the same (v5.00) . i expect you're all as fustrated as i am at not being able to use both the phone and tt.

RE: TT5 to TT5.i version display.
I have TTN5.1 on my XDAIIi and it displays version 5.1. At a guess I would say your upgrade did not install correctly. After upgrade it displays on your PDA to re-install certain TTN apps, did you say yes to this, if so I can't see why your upgrade did not work.
It will be interesting to see if TomTom do find a solution, but based on my experiences I don't think it is TomTom that is the problem.
I have a SanDisk 512MB SD card that runs just fine with Navigator 5.1 and the phone switched on. I also have a SanDisk 2GB SD card which exhibits the classic TomTom freeze.
The key fact is that Media Player also freezes with the 2GB card when the phone is on and it seems to happen when the phone switches to a new transmitter cell. The 2GB card works fine with Media Player when I switch to flight mode.
The fact that Media Player exhibits freezing in the same way as TomTom due to the radio having some unfortunate interaction with larger SD cards leads me to believe the fault is more fundamental to the device/operating system rather than a fault within TomTom.
I think therefore it needs a fix from Microsoft/HTC but I won't hold my breath as they already probably consider XDAIIi's running WM2003SE as a legacy platform, now that the Universal/WM2005 combination is imminent.
Anyone else had similar problems with Media Player freezing or any other application accessing a large SD card with the phone active?
Device: XDAIIi
ROM version: 1.11.00 WWE
Radio version: 1.03.00
ExtROM version: 1.11.162 WWE
Yeah same for me mate, i posted a a reply with similar findings a couple of posts up ^
I think i'll be going for an upgrade when my contract runs out (6 months )
Radio ROM version 1.03 is better it seems to make the freezes less regular.
I agree, I think the same as you guys. It probably is O2's responsibility and will need a fix on their part to resolve it. However using TomTom Support who state they now support the XDA2i, Tomtom have more clout when it comes to persuading O2 to sort it out rather than little old me and will hopefully get a fix in the near future. The response I recieved has been far better than any previous responses from Tomtom and does encourage me knowing they are at least researching the problem which is now shown in the My Questions of Tomtom website. (Unanswered has now changed to Researching)
Fingers crossed hopefully Tomtom are talking to O2 to work it out.
Watch this space.

it might be the similar problem of formatting your SDcard in FAT 16 instead of FAT 32
Apparently these programs use the SD card to store information and they can only read FAT 16
Give it a try.
d.zee, thanks for the idea but no joy I'm afraid.
My SD Card was already formatted with FAT16. So I tried a re-formatting to FAT32 but Media Player froze again. I haven't tried TomTom but doubt it would perform any better.

Dear Tomtom, I have a major problem with my XDA2i and the TT5 Traffic updates...
Discussion Thread
Customer 31/08/2005 08.10 AM
Dear Tomtom,
When enabling flight mode, both the Bluetooth and Phone are turned off. Turning on the flight mode will stop me from connecting my GPS receiver via Bluetooth and stop me from making a GPRS data connection via the Phone to download Traffic Updates.
Just to clarify the situation here, Tomtom 5 works brilliantly with my current configuration apart from the Tomtom Traffic Updates. If I have my Phone switched on or off Tomtom 5 will navigate me to where ever I need to go without many glitches, however I have subscribed to your Tomtom Traffic and find I can not use Traffic at all because when I try to download Traffic Updates via the GPRS connection (using the Phone which your asking me to turn off in flight mode)Tomtom will freeze.
I can remove and reinsert the SD card to get Tomtom to start working again but the map is no longer available as Tomtom thinks the SD card and maps are no longer present. The only other way to get Tomtom to work again is to reset my device. The PDA at all times remains useable just Tomtom that freezes.
In answer to your question, turning flightmode on stops me from using Tomtom 5 altogether, so that isn't the answer to the problem. If I was to turn the phone off but keep flightmode off allowing Bluetooth to continue to work, that still doesn't fix the GPRS connection as the phone is off so a GPRS connection cannot be made.
As you know I have paid a lot of money for the Tomtom Traffic subscription and cannot use it, therefore can I remind you that if you can't fix this problem, I would be grateful if you can refund my money for the Traffic subscription.
(I would rather you fix the problem!, a lot of other people are having exactly the same problem and is driving down the resale value of the XDA2i)
Can I take this opertunity to thankyou for your interest in this issue and thankyou for looking into the problem, I look forward to hearing from you again.
Flightmode off = Phone On, Bluetooth On (Yes GPRS and Yes GPS)
Flightmode on = Phone off, Bluetooth off (No GPRS, No GPS)
I can do this via a sim password
Flightmode off = Phone off, Bluetooth on (No GPRS, Yes GPS)

OMG i cant believe the reply ! I can safely say .. they never read the email properly lol
The problem lies with the OS/Radio ROM not TomTom as the freezing happens with other applications too not just TomTom, so its a job for the Mobile operators and/or device makers.
If they upgraded us to WM2005 then i think all the problems would disapear, sign my petition link in my signture.
Danny,
I couldn't believe it either, how can they fix the problem if they don't even know what the problem is!! lol
Anyway, at least they are still looking into it, in hope that they can speak to O2 to get it sorted or at least give me my Traffic money back.
I have tried to sign your petition and I managed to get it to load up the form but when I submitted it it fails.
Let me know if it works or not at your end and i'll try again when it does.
Good idea by the way keep it up and lets hope alot of people sign it.
All the best
Lee
Hi mate, your name is entered in the petition, the last name on the list atm
It would be nice if TomTom contacted O2 to complain about their incompatibilitys, although judging by the response you got from them, i think that extracting blood from a stone may be easier !

Dear Mr Donnellan,
We thank you for your feedback. We were thinking that you were experiencing freezing issues also when navigating.
We have run a test here with an XDA2i and ROM version 1.10 and it worked fine when updating traffic information. We will try with version 1.11.
Which GPS receiver are you using?
If you do not use the GPS and you only try to update traffic, is it working?

Dear Tomtom,
Thankyou again for looking into this problem. You are correct in saying the Freeze problem is only when I try to download Traffic Updates. Using Tomtom on a day to day basis works fine using my Tomtom GPS Bluetooth Receiver.
The freeze problem only occurs when downloading Traffic Updates or even Weather. However; I have managed to get it to work now and then! 97% on the time it freezes.
I have tried to download traffic with the following setups:-
1) GPS Bluetooth Receiver Connected to Tomtom with a satelite fix with a stationary vehicle.
2) GPS Bluetooth Receiver Connected to Tomtom without a satelite fix.
3) GPS Bluetooth Receiver Not Connected to Tomtom without a satelite fix.
4) GPS Bluetooth Receiver Connected to Tomtom with a satelite fix whilst driving.
5) GPS Bluetooth Receiver Connected to Tomtom with a satelite fix with a stationary vehicle and demonstration mode running.
All cause it to freeze! sometimes it will work but 97% time doesn't.
When it Freezes this is what happens, The Symbol for Downloading the Updates shows an arrow and flickers whilst the downloading is being carried out, when it freezes the arrow stops moving, I think it stops at the point it tries to use the data. It seems to download the data but can't finalize the data to be used.
However please note the following setups:-
1) GPS Bluetooth Receiver Connected to Tomtom with a satelite fix with a stationary vehicle and wireless WiFi connected to the internet.
2) GPS Bluetooth Receiver Not Connected to Tomtom without a satelite fix with a stationary vehicle and wireless WiFi connected to the internet.
3) GPS Bluetooth Receiver Not Connected to Tomtom without a satelite fix docked to activesync on my PC connected to the internet.
All work every time! The problem here is I don't drive with a PC or Wireless connection to Wifi so Traffic Updates cannot be updated on route when I need them.
The GPS Reciever I have is:-
Tomtom Bluetooth GPS Receiver (Mark 1, a little silver rectangle shaped box)
Hope that answers your question and helps you resolve this problem.
Please let me know which SD card you have tested this out on, you say yours works, I am interested in your setup. Why would yours work yet many many other XDA2i 's don't? Maybe we could compare XDA2i 's. Compare the following:-
SD card
ROM Version with Radio version etc.
Where you installed your Tomtom Program, all on the SD card or only maps on the SD card?
Corporate Install or Personal install?
Kind Regards
Lee
All evidence is now pointing towards it being an issue with certain types of SD card.
Has your device ever stuck on say the start menu, you pop out the SD card and all is fine......
No but it has been slugish with the SD card in and when taken out it becomes ok. That was with the slower SD cards I have used in the past, that problem has been fixed with a faster SD card.

Well my Transcend card arrived yesterday, but I had no real opportunity to test it until today.
So I sit here now, over 300 miles and 10 hours later and not a single freeze. Phone calls, GPRS file transfers, downloading mail, SMSs, MMSs and Traffic Information, both on TomTom and Traffic-I, the XDA IIi performed flawlessly, something that it has NEVER done since I got it, and i do not just mean with TomTom running.
So the answer is a Transcend 80x SD card, I don't think it is as much to do with the speed though, most likely power consumption/voltage issues as Pocket Mechanic shows the speed of the card being as quick as one of the ones that it replaced.

and i can say the same, been using it a little more than MaskedMarauder and have not had a single lockup due to traffic or phone being on
in fact i have just found out if you press the hang up button it minimizes tt and when you press tt again it starts instantly

TT5 Xda2i Tom Tom Crash

i have my xda2i and tt5 installed, and it runce nicely for an undetrmined amount of time then decides to close tomtom, i can reopen it and carry on but alas it keeps doing the same.
when i start tt5 i get the hands logo on the bottom bar apear but after every crash it seems to move along.
Any idears guys?
my old tt3 works flawlesly.
Firstly, make sure your using version 5.10, theres a small patch from the website that takes it from 5 to 5.10.
Second, consider it might be your SD card, slow older SD cards tend to make the device hang and/or slow down, which is a problem with the radio (mobile signal) and the SD card interface.
Cards above 80x speed generally work flawlessly.
Third try just a full re-install of the TT5 software, there might have been an error whilst installing thats causing it to crash.
i havent tried the update and i dont know what speed my card is, its the same card i used tomtom 5 with flawlessly in my old pda (loox600).
I'll try the update and see what happens.
Try this
Use the poi.dat from tt3.
I had a problem with the new rom where it crashed from time to time & also i couldn't nav to the poi without it crashing.
I used the poi.dat & i can now nav. it doesn't let me call the poi but it might solve your problem.
yay! when i used the tt5 poi and navigate to, it gave me the categories but no destinations when selected then would promptly crash, i put the tt3 poi.dat in and it will now searcha and nav to without crashing. will take her out on the road tonight and if i can get to my mums and back then alls well.
was a pain cos i went to newcastle a month ago (375mile) and it just kept crashing, i had to run it in guidance mode (no map, poi) so it must be the poi then cos it didnt crash like that.
will let you know my findings then you have a definitive answer for all you out there with the same issue.
Awesome
Happy with that if it works
What version of the rom are you running by chance?
ok, it dont crash now but it's so much slower in refreshing the map, about half the speed it was.
has anyone got an unaltered tt5 pio.dat file they can upload for me to try, i'm wondering if its happened when i used my free trial of tt plus and added thier speed camera databases. i could reinstall the maps but i'm nowhere near the orginal disk at the moment as its at work and i'm 'ill'.
I have a tomtom mobile pio which worked for a while then crashes, and have somone sending me a few different TT Go pio.dat's. worth testing them all.
my roms listed below chap.
Here is POI from TT 5.10, you said in your post that you had TT's speed camera database but I thought that you had to take out a 12 month contract.

You need to uncheck all the POIs you don't want to see on the map, that is what is slowing it down.
i activated the tt plus trial on the website for a month and grabbed all the extras, although i use pocketgpsworld.com for my speed camera databases.
I have all the poi deactivated already.
will try this poi.dat and keep you all posted as i know others with the same issues as i'm having.
i've tried a working 5 & it crashes but mine works fine with the 3 one. you could always delete all poi.dat & see if it is faster.
its still dying, with all tt pio.dat files. pain in the bottom, someone else on here has mentioned they have fixed this issue. grr
Is your copy a proper license? I used to use a pirate copy before I deceided to use the real thing. The pirate copy crashed all the time as you explained but the real copy wotks just fine.
genuine. though i have done updates and added my own poi, just wondering is any other software is clashing.
been using tt since version 2 and have had bothe mobile versions on a nokia.
if your sd card is not a 80x speed it will crash all the time ,have you tried a transend 80x card as it has been established to work well and isn't that expensive
I'm using a kingston elite pro (50X) SD Card with tomtom 5.10 with ALL the POI's checked and ALL the pocketgps.co.uk speed camera datebase POI's checked with alerts for the speed camera's and i have never had a lockup whilst driving using tomtom.
Maybe try hard-resetting your XDAIIi and installing everything manually NOT using sprite. That's what i did and my tomtom seems to work flawlessly.
What bluetooth gps are you using?
ive tried hard reset a few time, even only with tt on it. no luck.
i'm not sure what speed my card is, but looks like this is most probably the cause then, matter of finding some cash then i think, or getting just a small 128 80x to stuff it on for when i need it.
tried it without the pio.dat file, still crashes. grrr.
Yes, bearing in mind i have a soley-devoted kingston elite pro 512mb just for the GB Plus map and the French map.
Perhaps if you get rid of all the other stuff from the card by formatting it in a card reader, try using "media recover" search around for it on google as it will wipe the card clean, this takes a while, but it will restore your card to it's original condition when you first bought it.
Then for the formatting, try reading this post i posted ages ago...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=21920&highlight=lydiachris
Format your card this way to produce the best read/write times.
Now put all your data back onto your card, just copy then paste the files from your pc to your sd card. This will produce no fragmetation therefor your XDAIIi will not have to search around for the desired data on the card.
Give this a go and post your outcomes.
yay, i found a apprently modified ttn.cab file through file share, installed it to my xda, it downgraded me from 5.1 to 5.0 but hasnt crashed or paused since, although ive only tried it locally, it seems fine, trying to find the time to take it 50 miles+ and see if it works
gonna try out your formating trick soon chap, will keep you posted
New XDA2i - TomTom 5.10 crash/freezing....
Hi all!
I got my new XDA2i through insurance after my 1st one's screen smashed. Installed all my apps etc including the TomTom 5.1 update andddddd it freezes every so often again ! dammm!
So, I double checked everything, all ok, the only thing I can think of is that the newer ROM this handset has is the cause of the lockups again.
I've looked through the postings on this topic and see slightly different versions on the radio version, protocol version etc.
This new XDA2i (I havent changed the ROM) is
ROM - 1.11.00 WWE
ROM Date - 01/27/05
Radio Version - 1.00.00
Protocol Version - 1337.39
EXTROM version - 1.11.162 WWE
Is it possible that some of these versions are known to cause a problem even with the updated 5.1? ( by the way I have the special Bakonl update )
I use a Sandisk 1GB Card (normal speed), the TomTom silver BT GPS unit.
Interestingly, my brothers 'spare' XDA2s with this setup works flawlessly, so I know my install, SD card, GPS all work fine.
Any ideas guys? how do I update say just the radio version? or protocol version? so that my version match another user's version which are working with TT5.1 ?
I was really looking forward to getting GPS all working again as I've missed it these last 2 months ! and now it's doing that annoying freezing again!
Any ideas, recommendations, things to try will be greatly appreciated!

TomTom 5.21 lock up

Sorry if this has been answered before, but I cannot find any solutions to this on any of the forums.
TT5 running ok but 9 times out of 10 it will 'lock-up' during the journey. If I take out the SD card and reinsert it, sometimes it continues to work but after about 4 or 5 goes it locks up completely and needs a hard reset.
Someone suggested that there was still a problem with moving between cells where this would loose connection to the SD card.
Any suggestions on how to fix other than buy a new phone?
TT lockups ...
First thing that comes to mind is
make sure you are using a High speed SD card!
I now use the highly recommended Transcend 80X card and my unit is now performing brilliantly!
I'm running TT 5.1 - not sure of the functionality to upgrade it to 5.21...

use definitly a transcend 80x and your problems are away.
i used a transcend 45x before and had the same issues as you.
it´s not the speed, which is the problum but the need of power of the sd
the tc 80x has a single layer design and so saves power!

Extreme III not working !?!?!?
Hi all,
Great site - been reading for a while, just signed up.
I've had my Alpine for a few months but haven't done anything with it yet as I'm waiting until I have the money for an SD card.
I was thinking of getting an Extreme III myself as it appears to be one of the best out there (although I was hoping they'd release a 2 or 4gb version). It's rated at 133x and is also SLC (single layer cell)...
So I'm a bit concerned that it's not working for you - let us know if you find the cause of the problem checks!

Same problem with a SanDisk miniSD 1GB.
Solved reformatting all ( both low and high level ) using :
FAT32 and cluster size of 2K
Hope this Helps.
Maurizio
What program did you use to format the SD card?
Some good & bad news... :x
Reformated the SD card with SoftWinter's StorageTools to FAT32, 2Kb cluster size, Backup FAT:No (I guess at Low level?)
This has solved 90% of lockups and TT5 has only locked 2 or 3 times since.
I should be getting a Transcend 1Gb 80X SD at the end of the week so I will give it a go.... finger's cross!
I use pocket Mechanic tools for SD maintenance.
Before get new SD card try to install XPUScalar for overclock your PDA ( sd transfer rate increased )
tried a Transcend 1Gb 80x, exactly same problem - must be a problem with the Xda IIi, will try to send it back under warranty to be checked/fixed
Just trying to list the “possible” causes/fixes of the Xda2i lock up when using TT5.21
I to have this problem and as yet is still unresolved.
It can run for maybe 15 mins, locks up showing full set of satellites. Have to soft reset and start TT again.
Using Globalsat BT-338. Tried on “other bluetooth device”. Now set to NMEA, (as recommend elsewhere) tried 38400 baud rate, tried 4800, Left battery out for over an hour (cold start) still the same.
Storage card, a Transcend 80x
Upgraded radio 1.04.00. Ext Rom 1.11.162 (to Pugs version, Thank you DAZ999)
Reloaded To TT5.21
Reloaded Globalsat. (Question, the GPS info CD is version 5.1, and comes up with “this is made for an earlier version of software”?)
Hard reset numerous times.
Last resort, reblow ROM, reload all software and reinstall Globalsat.
Any further suggestions greatly appreciated.
Dave
My PDA uses 2 x Kingston 512Mb SDcards: one has the 'serious' stuff on it (Tomtom, Dictionaries, Visitor Guides etc) and the other games/films.
I've never experienced any problems with either TomTom or other programs, excepting the aminations in 'Riven' sometimes are a bit slow. Video plays happily full-screen using divx and MVP Player.
I recently installed Pocket Mechanic and ran the tests on the SD cards:
... they both scored a speed rating of 2.7X!
so am sure it's not a speed issue, as TT works perfectly smoothly.
my $.0.2

Me again,
I've received a new XDA IIi from O2 and guess what, the same intermittent problems with TT5 locking up.
For anyone who as a working copy of TT5 (5.21) help us with how they installed it… ie. what ROM used, if they just installed 5.21 or install 5.0 and installed update to 5.1 and update to 5.21..
TomTom support told me that there are known issues with XDA IIi and transferring data from the SD card, so why is the phone on the list of supported devices…
Hi there,
If it can be of any help, here's how I've installed TomTom :
- ROM version : 1.11.162/1.04.00 cooked by pug
- SD Card : Transcend 80x 1GB
- Install TT 5.0 with Bluetooth Support, Voice, but without maps. I don't use main memory for most of my programs, but the "Storage" directory instead (Disk On Chip)
- Install TT 5.21 upgrade. In a few cases I've had to reinstall just the Voice
- Copy the maps to the storage card.
- Use the Bluetooth Manager to pair with the GPS unit.
- Launch TT, configure "Other Bluetooth GPS", and pick COM 6.
The GPS is a Holux GPSLim236, set to 38400 baud NMEA.
I haven't had any lockups so far.
The only annoyance is that TT is very touchy about the order in which I start my BT devices : if I switch on the BT headset before launching TT, it won't find the GPS. The other way around seems to work better, but I've had to re-configure the GPS inside TT a few times to get it to figure out the GPS was really there.
Good luck !
Checks, did you solve it?
With format in fat32 2kb or installin how Mr Spoke said?

tomtom 5 stuck

Hallo,
I recently bought TomTom navigator 5. apart of the fact that v5 didn't install in WM5 and I had to wait for release 5.2, now I have this big problem: the program gets stuck trying to load the maps.
I tried copying the maps manually to the SD card. if I unplug the SD, tomtom complains that there are no maps and closes. if I plug again the SD, the program gets stuck and I can't do anything else (it freezes the whole device)
any clue?
thanks
you need 5.21 update (wm5 most compliant).
you can download it from tomtom.com
BR
I already have 5.21, it was a typo...
the problem is that it gets stuck when loading maps from the SD card...
it otherwise loads doesn't find the maps, and closes. but the program IS correctly installed...
thanks
m8...its happened to my sometimes on my exec that I had to uninstall via activ sync and reinstall again to correct...make sure you also have an empty folder named tomtom on the root of the sd and another on the root of the poquet pc and be sure that the map you have is correct for tomtom 5 .
BR
I tried, and it doesn't work (sigh sigh)
Also, I tried changing the SD card (you never know) but nothing changed.
all folders are present, though I had to create the one in the SD card.
still freezes *sigh*
also, tomtom help doesn't help at all, and I hate spending money for a non working software
m8...what version windows are you running....wm5 or 2003?
another thing ...I got stuck like that once after already having installed twice on two other xda2s's running the exact latest rom from 02... that time i shortcuted it by not installing any voices insted i put the voices folder on the card and put voices in there....that gave me this problem also.....installed a couple of voices from the disc on to the xda memory and voila its working like a charm.
BR
I'm running wm5, standard (no tuma-ivan-etc)
I'll try as you suggested this evening, I hope to solve it
thanks for your help!!
TomTom is one of the crappiest, buggiest piece of commercial software I've seen in a long time. Once you get it up and running it's usually OK for a month or two, but it generally soils its underwear after a short time and needs a reinstall.
I mean, 5.21, how long as 5 been out? 21 minor revs since then? Do they actually test their software, or just ship it and wait for the users to do it for them? I work in the industry and I am far from impressed with them. Especially given what it costs.
Any how, as I said, periodically you need to completely clean it out. Remove all folders. Delete your map directory on the SD card and copy over the original copy of the map you purchased. Delete all of the program directories it makes. I found as many as 6 or 7 directories on my storage card where it's scatterbrain configuration liked to hide data. Once I had to completely cull it from the registry to get it going, all keys with "navigator" and "tomtom" were suspect. Beware tho, "navigator" might be in there through other applications.
Oh, another thing to check...sometimes it gets sadomasicistic and decides to set a config file or two as read only. One day it's working, the next it fails to remember settings changes. You can fix that one without a reinstall if you can figure out which file it is (generally the map config file).
However, despite all this, sometimes you need to hard-reset to get it going again.
thanks to all, but I think I found a good solution.
I brought back the software to the vendor and changed it with navigator pn. it works perfectly
it's more of a workaround than a solution, but hey - at least I gave my money to a company that deserves it.
thanks destinator!

CoPilot compatiblity on Vario III

Greetings I've just got a Vario III (T-mobile) having upgraded from the Wizard (Vario I) the Vario I came with co-pilot gps mapping software - now I've got the Vario III i've copied the files across from the Co-Pilot data card to the Micro SD on the Vario III. It's installed fine on to the Vario III but when I try to run CoPilot it won't open tells me "unable to open CoPilot check the storage card is inserted and data downloaded properly" - well the card is in fine and readable.
So my question is, is CoPilot 6 Live compatible with Windows Mobile 6?
Cheers guys
I have copilot running on my TyTN II so it is possible. Works like a charm with the inbuilt GPS.
Anyway back to your problem check you have copilot in capitals as a folder in storage card/ it should contain datacd save and speech. Without this folder copilot will not run. I had the same error as you as I just copied over the program files originally, copy it over and you should be good to go (you will have to reactivate it though). If you copied over the 2577 folder and installed it from there then I cant see why it isnt working.
Anyway hope this helps
I can confirm that Desktopflame has got it spot on, as I've just followed his instructions and installed CoPilot Live 6 to my 6 Gb. SanDisc MicroSDHC, stuck it into my Vario 3, installed, reset, run, activated and taken it for a short test walk!
BTW I seem to remember reading on this forum that a couple of people thought the GPS receiver was rather a weak point, but so far I've had no problems with lock speed, (around 20 seconds and didn't need to use Quick GPS), accuracy, (it had me right where I should've been), or even signal strength, (to the point where I even maintained a lock when I inadvertantly walked into the kitchen forgetting to quit the thing, although I should point out it was less than a minute before I did shut it down so I'm not too certain how long it would have been before I got a little message if, even at all.
So, all in all, very satisfied.
