Tilt Proxy issue - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

I am having some issues with setting my proxy settings on my Tilt. The HTTP proxy is wiped out once they are set.
Here is what I am doing to create the problem
I go to Start ->Settings ->Connection Tab ->Connections ->Advance Tab ->Select Networks and change both settings in this menu to use "My Work Network" for both settings, and then set the proxy settings for "My Work Network" to use my corporate proxy, everything works fine until I enable a WLAN connection. After I enable the connection the proxy information disappears.
I guess I don't understand why the proxy settings disappear once a live WLAN connections is set.
Does anybody know how I can fix this.
I have tried running the no proxy cab which didn't help.
Thanks for any help
I am so frustrated I want to take this thing back to the store if I can't use it on my corporate network.

it probably does this since the proxy gets sent to you once you connect to a network, and the WiFi connection you are connecting to tells the Kaiser it needs no proxy... your corporate network should sent the proxy automatically, mine does (the wired one, not WiFi)

I called HTC support and they said this was a Mobile 6 bug. They said that they are going to work with MS to create a fix for this issue.
My thoughts are on this, is this going to affect a massive amount of user who have to connect through proxy on their corporate network.
This sucks cause I'm to cheap to pay for the data plan.
Holding my breath for a QFE from Microsoft. I sure not to soon though.

That isn't a WM6 bug. I have an ASUS device, which makes no problems with the proxy settings. It is probably a WM bug combined with the HTC specials.

losing proxy settings in Connections

Hello all.
I just got my Kaiser last week with the Official HTC ROM and I am have noticed that it's struggling to retain proxy settings for my work network.
when setting my work network connection to private network and then then My Isp to connect to the internet I set proxy settings to point to our proxy server, but once I exit from the connections settings it changes the settings to only be Socks settings, it will not retain the http settings and thus I cannot connnect to the external web, only if I leave the connections open will it retain those settings it seems.
I also find that it seems to be a bit flaky in that combined scenario, it doesnt switch properly between work network and ISP as it is supposed to. Is anyone else seeing this behaviour, is there any reg tweaks that can solve this problem?
A couple of my colleagues have the HTC Touch and they seem to have similar problems.
Cheers
LBN
Am I the only one to experience this issue, is the issue covered somewhere else anyone?
No, you're not the only one to experience this. That just happened to me also. My phone was working fine for the last week and a half and then all of the sudden I couldn't get weather panel to update over GPRS and when I checked my connection settings the HTTP proxy had disappeared. I put it back in and it hasn't disappeared again as of yet though.
Well, I figured out what's causing the problem, but not sure how to fix it. Activesync seems to be disabling the HTTP proxy whenever you're connected and try to connect to the net.
I tried to contact HTC Technical support too to get some more information on this, but surprise surprise they haven't gotten back to me except with a canned reply of being in contact soon. I just to own an ETEN M600 and Eten was horrific in customer support, guess HTC is not far off that
I still haven't figured out why it's doing this, hopefully HTC will shed some light on the problem though. I'm not sure how you have yours set up, but the way I have mine set up is that I have 2 connections set up, 1 with the proxy and one without and switch between the 2 when I need one or the other, that way I don't have to re-enter the proxy each time. There seems to be another problem connected to this that I'm not sure if you've noticed or not and that is if it removes the proxy like it's been doing it also disables any other connections you have set up, meaning that if I accidentally leave it on the proxy connection and WM removes the proxy and then I switch back to the other connection without the proxy it won't work until I reset the phone.
So any response from HTC yet LBN?
losing proxy settings
try to control the settings on the internet explorer of your desktop, on my phone activesync sincronize the proxy settings of IE to the mobile network settings.
Bye
Manux
The HTC crowd are a <censored swearwords>, not one word despite contacting them twice, very annoying....
I'm guessing that what ManuX said is probably what it's doing, although I haven't tried it yet to see for sure. The thing is to try and figure out how to stop it from doing that. I never use IE on my computer, but there are apps that I have that do so adding the proxy to IE is pretty much out of the question since all my compter apps would stop working then.
The same is happening with me. I add the proxy settings and re-enter the "Connection" panel, and poof! No more proxy. The SOCKS is kept but the HTTP is gone. Even when I remove the SOCKS, it comes back!
I've got the same problem with my Kaiser...Moreover when directpush is active, PDA make a soft reset and a lot of people have this problem. Have you solutions?
Excuse me for the bad English but I'm french.
Sitting in the same boot, but no idea either on how to solve this problem
anyone have any updates on this?
Same problem!!!!!
I have the same issue also. Is there a third party application that could be used?
I've seen similar, but slightly different behavior. Everytime I connect to activesync (via bluetooth or usb) the 'proxy' setting was being set. This caused an issue for my 3G connections and I had to clear the incorrect proxy setting after each activesync connect.
I tracked this down to the 'proxy' setting in internet explorer 7. If a proxy is set in ie7 (tools->internet options->connections->LAN Settings) the value is pushed to the device. As soon as I cleared the setting in ie7, the problem stopped occuring.
ive just updated to windows 6.1 and still the same problem
[SOLUTION]
The problem of losing the proxy settings after connecting to ActiveSync can be resolved as follow:
Connect your PPC to ActiveSync and let it snychronize.
After synching open the connection settings on your device and re-enter all your proxy settings.
If ActiveSync wants to synchronize after that again, just let it continue.
After the last sync you can disconnect your PPC from the cable
You should now be able to connect to ActiveSync without setting loss
I found the solution some time ago, but forgot to post it.
Anyway it works fine for me and should for all of you, too.
Cheers!
I dont lose proxy setting when connecting to active sync. I lose them when open interent exploror.

Cannot connect to Slingbox on AT&T

This is the most appropriate location I could find to post this, as I have three HTC devices (8525, TyTN 2, and Advantage) so I thought I would start here.
Issue:
I can no longer connect to my Slingbox on my home network when using my MediaNet (wap.cingular) connection on the TyTN 2 or the Advantage.
Error Message: Cannot connect using these settings. But email and web work from the MediaNet settings, so I am fairly certain the configuration is correct.
Facts:
- The connection works over Wifi on either HTC device, so I know my Slingplayer Mobile settings (Finder ID, etc.) are correct.
- The connection works using a Verzion Motorola Q. My corporate VPN connection also does not work with AT&T, but does on the Q through Verzion.
Conclusion:
AT&T has (or did) make changes to the proxy used which prevents services running on certain ports from working correctly.
Question:
Is anyone else having problems connecting to their Slingbox? If you can connect, what settings are you using?
Additionally, could someone please explain the differences between the wap.cingular and isp.cingular settings? Do you have to use isp.cingular to get VPN and other advanced services to work? If so, what is the minimum data plan you must subscribe to with AT&T to be able to do so?
Thanks in advance,
Rob
I cant say why you are having issues. My Slingbox connection works fine (actually much better than fine) via my Kaiser on AT&T with MediaNet. It works better than it ever did with my 8525. I do notice that I do have 2 separate Connections, one for MEdiaNet and the other called "My ISP" which both point to the same wap.cingular APN. Not sure why I have 2, but everything works fine. The MediaNet one is "hidden" and I can't change it. The My ISP one is visible, but I don't want to delete it since everything seems to work fine. It just switches between them (albeit unnecessarily) to make things work when needed.
Furthermore, I am using wap.cingular exclusively. If you do connect to a VPN, you must use isp.cingular. The normal MediaMax, MediaNet and smartphone plans give you wap.cingular. The PDA plans give you isp.cingular. Blackberry plans may give you neither (they go to blackberry.net).
Thanks
Can I ask what port # you are using for your Slingbox? I am using 5001 for one of mine. Did you have to make a rule entry in your router or firewall? I am just trying to determine why suddenly I cannot connect. I am going to pop my SIM card back into my 8525 when I get home and check it again. The last time I tried it on the 8525 it worked. The trouble is, there aren't a lot of changes to make. it's pretty much wap.cingular and the password.
Thanks, and if you think of anything else, please let me know.
Rob
my slingbox works just fine on att. WHen i had the isp.cingular it did not. i had to change it to wap.cingular to get it to work.
Hmmm, don't know th eport off hand, but I want to say i'm justusing the default.
Did you upgrade to the new Slingbox firmware the past couple of days?
I did and could not connect. I called Slingmedia and they told me they had some issus with the new firmware and UpnP settngs in some routers.
I had to go into the Slingbox settings on the desktop PC and manually open the port in the router. If you call them they will take you step by sep
I had the same problem it took me 10 hrs to finally find the answer. It has nothing to do with your port your finder ID at all. like the a previous stated you need to use a different connection setting to use slingbox. Use or create the my isp connection. the only difference is one use proxy settings and one does not. to be honest i just deleted the media net profile and used my isp exclusively. the only problem is medianet keeps showing up in my connection settings. the medianet setting can also screw with push email retrieval
Thanks so much NJXBEAN! I could NOT get Slingplayer to connect until I made that change in the modem settings. It works great now!

Proxy was blocking me...
After experimenting with mine further, I was FINALLY able to connect by unchecking the "use proxy server" setting on my unlocked Kaiser. I wonder if the AT&T "Tilt" build of the OS will even allow this?
AT&T Tilt and Slingbox
Right out of the box, Slingplayer worked on my Tilt. I made no changes to the proxy settings.
I have the media net unlimited plan.
It could be a firewall issue. If the connection you have is listed as "Connects to the Internet" it'll block some ports. If you have Connects to Work, it'll open all ports.
I just just want to say that you guys are great! I had a problem with sling, researched on it here, and found the problem without asking..People, u gotta love it!!!!!!

have you found a fix, i have the x7500 and my slingbox worked fine at first then after a couple of months it just stopped and i could not receive email either, i found a workaround for the email but i have not found a work around for the slingbox.
P.S. i recored myself talking to an at&t rep you should listen to what he says

It cannot connect to isp.cingular, you need to ADD wap.cingular apn to your network settings.

If you just make your default connection Media Net it's already going to be set for wap.cingular
isp.cingular is the default only if you have it set to use ATT ISP as your connection.
Wow, I want slingbox now. I didn't even think of it working on my Tilt....is the data transfer extreme????????

Help with internet sharing/tethering on Vista

OK so I thought I was halfway intelligent about all this but apparently not. I can't seem to get my internet sharing to allow me to tether on my new Tilt. I had it working fine on my Sprint Mogul so I know theoretically how to do it. I have the stock AT&T ROM (allowed customizations; just lazy about figuring out what I'd need of the customizations so I live with the bloat).
I created a shortcut for IntShrUI.exe in my \windows\start menu\programs folder to start the internet shar. I start Internet sharing and select USB and AT&T ISP GPRS (or MEdia Net; same result). It says connected and doesn't give me any errors but I can't seem to connect to anything from my PC or even ping anything. I'm using a Windows Vista PC. While internet sharing is connected I can connect to the web on the phone itself but not from the PC.
I was originally on "PDA Personal Max UNL + 1500 Messages" but I couldn't seem to connect to ISP.CINGULAR and I thought maybe that's why I couldn't tether (and I thought it'd probably prevent me from connecting to my corporate VPN). So I called in and the tech guy said that plan isn't provisioned for ISP.CINGULAR so he switched me to the "older" (his words) PDACnctUntlAdd which is the same price and includes ISP.CINGULAR but not 1500 messages. In hindsight I'm guessing that's not my problem (especially since it didn't fix it) and I'll prob go back to PDA Personal Max with the 1500 messages once I figure out the tethering and assuming it allows me to VPN.
My settings are:
AT&T ISP GPRS
Modem:
APN: isp.cingular
Username: [email protected]
Password: CINGULAR1 (doesn't show it but found that online)
Domain: blank
Advanced Settings:
TCP/IP: Use server-assigned IP Address
Use software compression: not checked
Use IP header compression: not checked
Servers: User server-assigned IP Address
Proxy Settings:
This network connects to the Internet: checked
This networks uses a proxy....: not checked
MEdia Net
Modem:
APN: wap.cingular
Username: [email protected]
Password: ????? (doesn't show it and never looked for online)
Domain: blank
Advanced Settings:
TCP/IP: Use server-assigned IP Address
Use software compression: not checked
Use IP header compression: not checked
Servers: User server-assigned IP Address
Proxy Settings:
This network connects to the Internet: checked
This networks uses a proxy....: not checked
I've tried to do it with the proxy disabled (running Disable Proxy from programs) and with it enabled with the same result.
So what can I be doing wrong? I'm sure it's something supremely stupid (if it's not a provisioning problem but how could it be that?) but I can't for the life of me figure out what I'm doing wrong.
Any help greatly appreciated and let me know if there's anything else you'd need to know to get this working.

So your device says connected (and can surf the web) but your laptop wont connect?
So is your laptops firewall blocking the network?
Have you tried it over bluetooth, and use the BT PAN option. Select BT in ICS and click connect, and click YES to allow it to be discoverable, then in Vista, click start, connect to, Then click Set up a network or connection. Then scroll down to the bottom option (BT PAN). Click it and it will offer your device's BT PAN, select that and click connect.
Wait for 30 seconds, then open the web.
Solution from ATT-Connect your Laptop/PDA
Here ya go! Tried it myself with the usb. Workin good-ATT has a comm manager app that installs on the laptop.
Here's the link to the ATT support for it.

Thanks for your help; hadn't thought of turning off firewall since it worked with the mogul without doing that. Tried that and it didn't work. Then tried with bluetooth and that didn't work either. Didn't want to use the ATT comm manager on the off chance that they could track tethering usage on it.
And of course it was a stupid thing not to check but something made me try connecting to an IP address and not a URL and BAM! it worked. So I guess I have a DNS problem and not a connection problem.
So now anyone have an idea why the laptop can't resolve DNS but the Tilt can? Should I manually set free public DNS servers on the Tilt? Or on the laptop?
Vista you said? correct?
Try making the network that Vista sees when you connect-private; if it's public,it'll block stuff
Yeah, it's already set to private. Still no DNS resolution. I'm going to try using a free public DNS server on the PC. Strange that the Tilt isn't passing thru DNS for me but it seems it is for everyone else.
Well using the free DNS servers (208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220) seems to work now and it even seems to resolve DNS faster. I feel better that I figured out how to get it to work but I'm definitely confused as to why it doesn't work by default like it does for everyone else.
get tethering working yet?
hi,
i have the same issue. have unlimited data plan on my tilt. no problem with connection on my tilt (although i did not put in all that proxy setting crap att asks you to put in).
anyhow
- installed the htc modem driver on my laptop.
- turned on the modem on the tilt
- created a new dialup connection on my xp laptop
---> question here, what is the "phone number" that should be dialed???
--> for [email protected], password is CINGULAR1 also
as a last resort i will try using the att comm manager, but like you i don't really want to do it due to any tracking att may be doing...
would be great to hear if loading that local dns resolves your problem, altho it seems kinda clugey (sp?)
lol-
ya'all kill me.
Anything at all, including data; going through any major network in the U.S., is tracked- period. Cell calls, data, internet connections, and even landline calls are ALL tracked in the U.S. now. Thanks to the current administration, EVERYTHING is tracked.
Alemaker
I meant tracked in terms of tethered vs non-tethered (not being on a tethered plan; but then I tether about once a month when travelling in airports if that so I'm not worried about it). I know big brother is always watching (especially on AT&T):
http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/Story?id=3833172&page=1
@jprai I did get tethering working by just changing my DNS settings on the laptop to free servers. I'm not using wireless modem but the Internet Sharing app on the PocketPC (go to \Windows and copy the shortcut "internet sharing.lnk" to your \Windows\Start Menu\Programs directory and then you'll be able to start the app easily). It's much easier to use (well now that the DNS issue was figured out).
I'm still very curious why DNS isn't working for me with the default settings and it does for everyone else but I'm OK with this work-around for the time being.

This did the trick for me, thanks!
For those not fully aware of how to do this, connect your phone with ICS, go to network connections (control panel->network and sharing center->manage network connections), right click on the phone's connection (hover over them if you're not sure about which is which... mine said NDIS something or other), go to properties, click on TCP/IPv4, go to properties, and then give it the DNS addresses listed above.
Thanks!

Understanding AT&T Connection and Proxy Settings on Kaiser

Hi all,
I've been at these forums a few weeks now and am starting to understand much about the PPC (I have a Tilt), software, ROM's etc.
But the one thing still confusing me is the Connection and Proxy Settings for AT&T.
Specifically, my phone has 4 connection set up: MediaNet/AT&T ISP/My Work Network/MY ISP. Why so many different settings and when are each one used or otherwise needed?
As for proxy settings, there seems to be 2. One setup in the phone connection settings, and then a "hidden" proxy. What are each of these used for and what are the advantages/disadvantes to turning each one off/on?
And finally how does WiFi fit into all of this, if at all?
Thanks in advance!
ok, i'm gonna take a stab at this see if i can get this right......pls feel free to correct me
AT&T isp - this one use the isp.cingular gateway, it is basically the one you use if you have a tethering plan (now tethering without a thethering plan is a whole different story altogether)
MediaNet - this uses the wap.cingular gateway, and you use this if you have a medianet unlimited or pda personal unlimited plan
My Work Network - use this if you want to connect to a vpn network
My ISP - this one has no connection setting whatsoever (at least for at&t) and just leave it at this one if you dont have a data plan and just want to use wifi.
the hidden proxy......its used if you want to access at&t services such as cingular video and the medianet homepage, as for the "other proxy" you mentioned......i have no idea what will happen if you disable it, i just leave it as it is.
I have an OEM HTC Kaiser with no mods whatsoever ( I dont want any awwww Sh%$ts!!) I go to the ATT website, Support by Device for my connection answers and nice screenshots on the settings. I think there is only one that didn't apply to my device...the hidden proxy one. Seems to help me with my problems
Those connection settings get me going too!
for the hidden proxy, you just need to find the enable proxy and disable proxy cabs. you can make shortcuts to both cabs in your start menu or wherever for easy access (just like the at&t roms). those cabs are all over the forums......search for it

wifi settings problem on kaiser

Hello friends, i am new to windows mobile but it doesnt mean that am a n00b , i got my Dad's TyTN 2 as he is now using a different phone ,so right now i am in my university hostel which provides free wifi internet facility, i have been using wifi without any issues on my nokia N82 and my laptop but i cant seem to configure my kaiser properly with the wifi settings assigned to me by the university network administrator, the settings which i have is
IPv4 192.0.11.9
subnet mask 255.0.0.0
proxy server 192.0.0.1 port 3128
when i configure these settings on my N82 or laptop ,wifi works fine but it doesnt works on kaiser even though it connects but it doesnt seem to open any web page or update quickgps or any other internet app ,3G/GPRS is working fine on it though and also internet works on it when its connected to the laptop through activesync
can anyone please help me and tell where should i put these three settings , maybe i messed up and inserted wrong setting in other places,
thanks in advance

i have already tried that before, as i mentioned too that wifi connects but i cant open any web page on the device
where have you entered the proxy settings?
1. if the wifi connects, you should be able to ping the machines on the LAN that your device has "entered". first make sure this works.
2. for internet to work, the general convention for network admins is to set up a network with a gateway. however, it seems that your network admins have used the proxy approach (probably to better control/filter the content accessed by users on the LAN)...i am not certain where exactly the proxy information needs to be entered on your device for things to work properly but if the answer for (1) above was positive, then my money is on incorrect proxy settings on your device.
