[UTIL]PointUI - Skins! - Windows Mobile Themes

PointUI has been out for only one week, and skins are coming soon!
According to the developers of this free application, the theme management will simply use the same "Update Manager" to be able to download a new theme. They indicate that this new feature should be out to the general public in "a week or two".
More nice work by the Pointui Team. Here is the "Black" theme.

The Point UI or Home UI is one of the promising UIs that are around for a while. Great to have nice skins going along with it. The Team has been working hard to iron out some of the issues reported. I am looking forward to the next release in two weeks' time? Cheers

Better PointUI........
I totally agree that PointUI in its current avatar needs some changes... But it's the best UI I've seen floating around... May be soon, we'll have a better version... Keeping my fingers crossed...

This is interesting both both because the PointUI team is adding the skins and also because of the unique distribution method.
For forum users that do not use PointUI, there is a very simple integrated update method in the application that allows direct upgrades of the application. No cabs, no exe's, no registry edits. Really easy.
In this case it is used to add new features (Skins). This is a great concept and I can see that this will be used to easy add new features in the future.

i have installed PointUI for testing... but for real life usage, i think navigation within this UI is not user friendly enough... you will always think where to go back and how to go there.... but of cos, it is still very innovative, looking forward to their update in future.

I fully agree ... at any point in time you'll find yourself wondering what to do next ... I think the design should be more intuitive ... but other than that it's a wonderful idea!

im luvin it
i got my HTC Touch abt 4 weeks back.....n to be honest i didnt get the whole concept of toch.... i thought it was jus another wm6 mobile.....n along came PointUI.....now i can show off to my friends who have iPhones that their phone has just became ****tier....lolz
cant wait for the upgrade..... they shud definatly do sumthing abt placing a wallpaper somehow.... it wud become crazy then!!!
cheers

well pointui is rly nice, step forward, skins are nice.
but to be honest, from my point of view there is awful lot of things to improve and implement to this kind of ui - don't flame me for saying this, but i rly don't know what are userw getting from using point ui in the state of ark in which it currently is, imho it's almost useless, just another gadget - when it will have it's own complete ui including messaging, contacts, calendar and dialpad etc etc - then it will be fantastic piece of software, but now? only another today skin (good one though, but still - when u have to get back 2 WM ui to write a message or to make a call, what the hell is it for?)
Don't get me wrong, i'm not blaming pointui itself, but the users which are making so big hubbab about it

it's not possible to change the icons?
I hope everything is customisable. From every button till the icons.
I only see the colours are changed...

Just installed it...and its great....there are bugs of course but cant wait for future releases.....just hope they dont go commercial

I think they will go commercial.
For a freeware GUI Pointgui is just a great piece of software. When they will have implemented launcher, dialer and messaging and will have given us a bit more customizing opportunities Pointgui will beat all the other Mobile Shells of SPB or HTC.
But for now it's freeware and this is a enjoyable fact.

i dont mind purchasing great application....

However, do not underestimate the dark side of software arena, it may get eaten up by those software giants....so there will not be any "beat the hell out of whoever" happening

fab!!
I have the app.. and it's fab .. I would soo love the Black skin fro my touch .. where do you get it.. cant find it on the forum...

Installing the theme (copying the file to the device)
* On the device, close Home.
* Open File Explorer and navigate to the install path of Home
- Default location is My Device > Program Files > Pointui > Home > {Version} at time of writing the version is 1.01b.
* Rename Home.cdl to Home.cdl.blue so you have a backup
* Extract the attached file to your computer
* Rename it from Home.cdl.black to Home.cdl
* You can either cradle the device (ActiveSync) or copy the file to a memory card.
* Copy Home.cdl to the install path of Home on the device
* Load Home
* Admire the new black theme.

Don't know if it's allowed, don't know if the guys from PointUI are happy with distributing this skin...
But it looks wonderful!!! A beautiful interface and in black!
Thnx

lol i don't see any way in which they would be unhappy with it - since it's still freeware and the theme doesen't come in entierly repacked installator
well yes i see, but they'd be real jerks if they would

Pointui is the best software that I have on my Cingular 8125. It works perfect... of course improvments can be made but as it is I find it very usefull. As somebody was wondering what use can one have of it, well here is mine: I can fully operate my phone with one hand while I am driving. That's a big plus for me...
I have one problem though, I have previously installed SPB Pocket Plus and Slide2Unlock Pro. So when all these 3 progs are running my memory goes down to 11-12 MB available, so if I am starting any other program that is memory hog, like a game my phone is really, really slow. I am thinking of uninstalling SPB Pocket Plus. What else can I do to improve the memory???
Thank you.

Am I the only one who wants my color display to be in color?

Now please don't misconstrue this post.
I truly do appreciate the ROM bakers we have here, and they have put out some truly awesome stuff. Dutty and Q, I've already used both your ROMs, cause for some reason I just can't leave it alone. I've actually tried 3 of Dutty's and the 1.2 of Q's.
I've had cell phones since it was regular black numbers on a grey screen (like a digital watch), then to the green LED, then, finally to a colored LED, and then to a full color screen. I really don't want to go back 20 (or whatever) years.
Anyway, my dilema is the black design of the ROMs. I'm no ROM chef, I barely have the patience to reconfigure my device after flashing. But am I the only one who wants my color device to have a colored theme? I came from the Hermes, and tweaked the hell out of alll the black ROMs for that to get some more color into them. On this one, I'm a little more hesitant to tweak them back to color.
Is there a quick way to get the black out of the cooked ROMs? I'm back on the ATT ROM for now, and I'm hating it again (after only a day). Again, nothing but the utmost respect for the chefs with more patience and skills than me, and a big thanks to you guys again.
But, anyone else want their color device to remain in color?
On black background the white text is perfectly readable. On ultra-mega-cool-supa-dupa coloured babe-magnet screen you will see LSD effect.
My 2 cents

Hmm ultra-mega-cool-supa-dupa coloured babe-magnet screen with LSD effect? Makes you wonder why aren't we doing this with more roms.
I like my black WM6 theme. It's... I dunno... it's only emphasizing the potential of the device, I think. It's a psychological thing. It's if you have a ferrari you'd drive calm, respectable. Not like all those civics that scoop around like crazy kids..
Same idea here - if it'd be a cheap ass cellphone for $25, I'd have it pimped out. Since it's a $400 business machine - it has to look solid and calm.
Just my opinion.
You can pretty easily add your own backgrounds and menubar themes. You can also get skinning software to give even more possibilities. Search for the homescreen screenshot thread to see various themes and skins people use. The most popular theme is a sedate black, but there are plenty of other colors out there.
If you want an easy way to add color, check out: Wisbar Advance 3

I love it! Easy to change themes with as much color as you want.

I agree. The Kaiser is about function and performance not flash. If your looking for eye candy then get an iPhone. If you want a business class multiple use device then the Kaiser is for you. I love the black themes. You can put any theme you want on these ROMs. The ROM is just the OS. Just like windows it is up to you to make look the way you like to use it. It just happen to be the most popular look for the cooks.
there are literly thousands of themes for pocket pc's bpth cooked roms and standard roms. they use the same themes and you can install them as easy as downloading them to your root directory and selecting them through your today/theme settings, have a look here http://www.pocketpcthemes.com/new.aspx for free themes

Jeez did I ever strike a chord, or what?
Why can't it have function AND form? If I wanted an Iflop, I'd have gotten one. I'd be first in line to buy those anti apple stickers, beleive me.
I'm not talking about roller coasters or flowers or hot chicks. All those things are great (some greater than others). I just want some color without having to hack like 200 items to a color to get it. Like make the black- blue, or red or whatever.
I understand I can put whatever theme I want on it. My thing was, with flashing once or twice a day, I'm tired of messing with color settings, and just wondering why people like turning the color display monochrome. Is your home computer colorless too? Do you watch movies exclusively in black and white?

I prefer black and glossy really over bright and shiny
Wow.
That is pretty ironic, isn't it? LOL.
Still got some color in it, but largely comparable to the ROMs we are talking about, huh?
I can't really talk, I guess. I don't even have wallpaper, just a plain black screen. But still, I don't look at that screen all the dang time. I guess that is what gets me... every time I look at the phone it is black and dull. The plain screen on my home computer is so I don't have added clutter.
if you want colour use SPB mobile shell its got plenty of options for colour themes, while your at it tweaks2K2.net has a color editor for your device colors thats quick and simple. no need to do any major changes and it can be changed regualarly in a matter of seconds. also SPB pocket plus have extended themes that are quite nice. or you can use a them editor to make your own themes however you want them. the choices are endless as to how you setup your Kaisers color settings

I was using SPB when I first got the Hermes... but got away from it with the advent of the HTC home plug in... it did what I wanted and took less space, also I thought it slowed the device down less. I was running the Mobile Shell, Pocket Plus, and Weather apps. Do they slow the Kaiser down too?
I'll check the tweaks2K2 thing, thanks.
they dont slow it down at all really. the newer SPB plus4 is less memory intensive and has a smaller footprint than the SPB plus v3. I use both the mobile shell and spb plus4 and pocket weather and dont experience any slow down. on my old wizard it slowed it down a bit but not that bad. the Kaiser doesnt suffer much from memory intensive apps like the old wm5/wm6 TYTN did. that extra ram and rom really makes a difference and the cpu is better also

[THE] (WVGA+VGA!new!) VistAdvance Wisbar Themeset UPDATED! (with demo video too!)

Hey everyone,
Updated to v1.2! (WAD2 portion, WA3 portion is still @ v1.1)
* ADDED VGA VERSION OF THE WAD2 THEME AS PER MANY REQUESTS!
* Added localized language support to the .cab installer (this should fix the black screen issue that users of non-English ROMs were experiencing)
* Fixed a small bug in the AppToDate configuration
Updated to v1.1!
* Theme is now auto-applied in WAD2 after install
* Fixed naming scheme of WAD theme (LAND is now Landscape, PORT is now Portrait)
* Configured Contacts grid to switch back to Programs grid after a contact has been clicked
* Fixed Volume Status icon assignments to account for bugfix in WAD2
* Added MoDaCo AppToDate support to notify you of new releases
* Rebuilt .CAB file to support compression, and give no warnings on WM5/6
If you've already installed v1.0 of VistAdvance, you are STRONGLY recommended to update to v1.1. Note that you should UNINSTALL v1.0 manually, and moving forward, any new versions will automatically do this for you (long story, but I've got the .CAB named and working properly now). Grab v1.1 from my site linked to below!
I've recently updated my theme VistaMobile (now outdated) to support my Xperia X1 and any 800 x 480 WVGA devices using Wisbar Advance v3.x/Wisbar Advance Desktop v2.x. It has been a long time in the making, and I think I've come up with an easy-to-use and good looking theme/interface.
Check out the picture below, and follow the link to my site where you can download and learn more about the theme. Please post your comments in this thread or on my website only.

** UPDATE ** - As per some of your requests, I've added a WVGA wallpaper pack next to the theme downloads on my site. Check the attached thumbnails below for a preview.

I dig it, But alas I have a Fuze and no 800x480 support. If you could port it down to a 680x400 then we'd be in business
But I dig it!!!!!!!!!!!!!
hahah I hear ya Skippy. Thanks for the kind words. I'd definitely love to port the theme back down to VGA resolution, I just need time (it took me long enough to build this WVGA version!)
Keep an eye out though, and if I get enough requests (and donations help!) for a VGA version, I'll try to move it up on my list of priorities!
really nice
is it possible to have it for QVGA and QWVGA ?

Hey brunoisa10,
Glad you like the theme as well. You can surely post the theme to your forum, however I request that you link to my protogenLabs.com site for the download (please don't host the .cab files on your own server as I track downloads on my site).
You can copy my complete forum post, but just point everyone over to the official entry on my site.
As for QVGA/QWVGA, I would love to create those themes as well, but I am short on time these days I'm hoping that someone would be able to assist me with a QVGA/QWVGA theme, but as it stands now, a VGA version of the WAD2 theme is probably next.
Thanks for spreading the word!
no problem
thank you
really a pleasure to read that
sure Ill post the link to your site
EDIT ;: your actual WAD theme is for HTC Touch Pro , am I right ?
I 'm ready to buy a HTC HD , so I'm waiting WQVGA version , take your time , I can wait

LOL those words bring a huge grin to my face! I am SO glad that feedback has been positive for this theme. I am a web designer so I always try to account for ease of use, while packing features in but keeping the interface clean.
Now only if someone could get Chris McKay and I jobs at Microsoft, we could REALLY improve the UI of Windows Mobile!! *wishes*
Hi Scar,
I posted this in the old thread (I only have QVGA ) but didn't get a reply.
Is there any way to change the weather on the old version to Weatherpanel + Rumball's Weather Icons?
Sorry, didn't mean to thread jack you, lol. I just want to use a theme for WAD2 that has portrait and landscape and yours looks nice and very user friendly.
scar45,
this is awesome! I like it very much!
I notice in the 2nd screen (the one with the clock at 9:43) a very nice, cork-like, background which I had hoped to find in the package. I have been looking for something like this for long, any chance you can post the jpg or the .tsk?
Thanks in advance

No worries about the thread-jack tilt! I am sorry that I didn't respond to you either. I am not actually sure how to change the old version to support Weatherpanel + custom icons because I've never used that program. I suppose you could just create a new page (and link the left/right page switcher arrows to include that page), then pop it on there.
I would love to support everyone's devices by making a QVGA/QWVGA/VGA versions of my WAD2 theme, but I am quite a busy dood. I'll definitely try to get around to it soon, but VGA will most likely come first because the images are at the same DPI as WVGA (I don't need to downscale them, just edit the positioning).

I installed the wisbar desktop .exe file then installed but it couldn't find my device, I selected windows mobile 6 is it a problem that mine is 6.1 or that mine is running .net compact framework 3.5?
Anyway looks like an awsome theme and definitly something i would like to have a hands on experience with.

Hey chaosant,
Thanks for your interest in the theme! Glad you joined the Windows Mobile crew as well, we need all of the supporters we can get to fight the Crackberries, iPhones, and now Palm WebOS!
If I understand you correctly, you downloaded the ActiveSync .exe installer for Wisbar, and you're trying to install it, but it can't find your phone.
What I would do if I were you is revisit the Lakeridge Software site and grab the "Over the Air Installers" for WAD/WA3. They should be downloadable .CAB files, similar to my theme. Next, you need to copy these .CAB files from your PC to your device (easiest way is probably to remove your memory card and insert it into your PC's card reader, then copy the files).
Once you've done that, load up File Explorer on your phone, browse to your Storage Card, then tap the .CAB files to install. Install the Wisbar programs first, then my theme. Next, follow the instructions on my website to load the theme into Wisbar.
Hopefully that helps you out, but let me know if you run into any difficulties. You should also be able to find great support and resources on Lakeridge Software's own forum.
Hope you like the theme when you get it running!
yeah that worked thanks alot, really great theme keep up with the good work, also thanks for the quick response and im very happy to have joined XD
Just a quick note to let you guys know that the theme names are reversed when you view them from within Wisbar Advance Desktop. I developed this theme in an emulator, and I was trying to account for the way it mishandles screen orientation.
Therefore, when picking/applying your VistAdvance themes, please use VistAdvance-v1.0-PORT for the Landscape theme, and VistAdvance-v1.0-LAND for the Portrait theme.
I'll be sure to fix this for the next theme update!

Hi all!
I have recently been playing around with the Sense 2.1 + Gingerbread (aka GingerSense) ROMs, and had to of course port (and improve) my original PCB Sense Theme from days ago. I have been testing it myself for quite a few days, and I'm finally happy with how it turned out, so I wanted to offer it up to all GingerSense XDA users.
Couple of things to note:
This design was meant to be close to stock for those who actually dig the Sense scheme, but want something unique
The file is a 7.7mb signed .APK created using apk-manager 4.9 for Sense 2.1...I may make a Sense 3.0 port if there is enough demand (need to play with .m10 editing still)
It is installable on HDPI devices only by simply copying to your device and running, and is uninstallable by Titanium Backup, or applying another Skin in Sense, and highlighting PCB Sense, then MENU --> DELETE...it doesn't appear in "Settings --> Applications", but why would you want to uninstall it anyways?
I have edited a poopload of images with utmost care and attention to detail including those precious draw9patch ones
The tricky thing with the draw9patch is to have a pattern get 'stretched/repeated' without looking crappy...I believe this may be one of the few Sense themes out there which attempts to skin >90% of resource images (I may be wrong, but still)
I tested (and approved of) this theme on my Desire (Bravo) running LeeDrOiD v3.3.1 and InsertCoin GB
The font used in all screenshots is "Ubuntu", however "Storopia" also compliments the skin nicely

This theme took me about 55-60 hours to complete
I've seen some other mods/ports of my theme before, and while I am a believer in sharing and caring, it would be nice if you asked/PM'ed me before using my theme for any other purpose than your own enjoyment. I'm a nice dood, I promise, and it's good to give credit where it's due!
If you'd like to buy me a beer, coffee, or any other kind offering to say thanks, it's greatly appreciated and I will thank you personally... (Donate link is in my post profile)
Anyways, have a look at the preview images below, and please leave your thoughts! I hope you enjoy it!!! (Oh, and keep an eye on this thread for updates)

Heya retrosling, if you mean when you are in the "Phone" app, then yes, some images may not be fully skinned, but this is a limitation of the HTC Sense Skin .apk format itself. Note that there are no flashable .zips needed to use this theme, and that should allow it to be installed on multiple devices (with Sense 2.1 of course).
To skin many other components means that I would have to build a flashable .zip which modifies 'framework-res.apk', 'com.htc.resources.apk' and 'SystemUI.apk', and since these are based on certain ROMs, and can therefore be unique, I chose not to go that route for this theme (the logistics/maintenance of handling all bases/versions/ROM-specific customizations for these 3 .apks would be a nightmare of time consumption!)
Believe me, that I skinned nearly every single PNG that would allow it. The only ones missing (for now) would be for landscape support. Once we start getting more GingerSense ROMs with landscape homescreens, I will be adding them though. Good thing for updating is that you'd just have to re-download the .apk (same exact link/filename), and the .XML file defines that it's a newer version, then your phone should ask you if you want to update it. Super clean this .apk Skin route.
To everyone else who offered your great comments/feedback, thank you very much!! It's great to see others enjoying the benefits of the hard work it took to put together this theme!
All the best.
Just tried this on Robocik's v1.2 a2sd cm7 hboot and it does not seem to work.
Have I missed something?
Amazing.
I will say that I have allways found the backdrops you pick very distracting and make the icons hard to see, but then I am addicted to the glactic core live wallpaper - you should try it with the pcb sense - it really ties the screen theme together!
One thing I miss from the old PCB theme is the green circuit board buttons, but then I am sure I will get used to this... (see attached for what I mean)
perhaps an option in the future?
Again, Thanks!!!
Warmly, Marty

Hey ericb, thanks for trying this out on RCMix v1.2...I am not sure why it didn't work for you, as it should be in MENU --> PERSONALIZE --> SKIN. There is nothing specific relating to InsertCoin, so maybe it didn't install properly? Did you get any errors when you clicked on the .apk from a file browser to install it?
Only other thing I can think of would be to "Allow Unknown Sources" in SETTINGS --> APPLICATIONS, which might allow it to install since it isn't a pro-signed .apk.
Let me know though, as yours is the first report that it didn't work

Thanks Marty, this one was for you Anyways, I understand about the wallpaper/backdrop, but one NEEDS to be included in the .apk, and I figured people would pick their favourites anyways. I will also check out that galactic core LW that you love so dearly
I hear ya about the green PCB traces in my old theme version, and I went with grey this time because I wanted to make other colour versions overall. This would give the theme more consistency across all colour mods, since when you press those buttons, they light up green (and in the future, /blue/etc.).
Nothing's impossible though, so if I get a chance, I may make a classic version like that. Otherwise, if you REALLY want it, you can PM me and I can .zip up the files from the old theme so that you can drop them in this .apk and reinstall it...
@scar45
Just checked again and it had loaded ok.
Must have been impatient first time.
Looks really cool with great detailing.
Just need to work out how to change the top and bottom bits of the screen to match your skin.
Currently it is black and doesn't quite enhance yours.
I will feedback any problems.
Thanks for your reply

Hey Scar,
Well I slept on it (1.5 hours sleep last night, I am going to be a mess at uni today)
and I have to say I do prefer the one with the green buttons -
It breaks up all the grey a bit, and matches really well with the green traces on the clock.
So I would love a green version if you can make it.. - and I can imagine how cool a red and blue version will look too -
You should sell your theme to HTC and get it included as standard, make some $$$$ its very geeky and DIFFERENT from all the other themes that just look the same.
Warmly, Marty

Wow Marty, that's a hard-hitting factual story there, and I first my send my condolences to you and your partner as well. Losing someone to cancer is absolutely horrible, as I have had similar experiences in my life (although thank God no one in my immediate family). I promise you I will never squander any contributions that people send my way, as I really use it to help me stay living in my home and eating food Times are tight, but the joy that one can get from these types of devices is very much worth it.
I will definitely whip up a 'traditional edition' for you and anyone else who wants to download it though, as soon as I get some time (blah blah, broken record on my shortness of 'time' I know )

Sorry to be unclear.
I am talking about the top notification bar and the bottom button bar.
Would be nice to be able to colour match to give a seamless green colour to the skin.

By the way, do you have the framework you use for all the notification icons battery mod etc?? Are you running the CM7 version?

The background:
End of 2009, my personal smartphone era took off with one of the greatest devices I ever owned: I bought an HTC HD2,
which is known as the device which can be used with more OS platforms than any other (so far).
Sense 2.5 got even better when CHT (Cookiemonster´s Home Tab) came as an extension, and I started to theme the clock option.
After my HD2 fell to a stone floor and the screen broke into gazillions of tiny little pieces,
I had to move on, and after having been able to make extensive tests, I went for Android.
I actually don´t miss anything to set up my device to my taste - except for the clocks.
There are quite a few available in the web/market, but many of them come without a hand for the seconds,
not to mention missing display of the date and more.
The first step is made, I looked for a solution which is not eating too much battery,
and can be themed easily by an amateur like me. I again went for my favourite clocks from Lüm-Tec,
and with their official permission, their great clock design is now available for Android,
through using a special launcher called "Crazy Home" and its clock widget function!
Crazy Home actually reminds me strongly on CHT from its functionality (multiple home screens, easy to set up),
the free version includes some advertising. No big issue for me, and you can get the paid version without the advertising if that bothers you.
No advertising for that product from my side though, it´s just the (maybe temporary?) solution to get my clocks running on my phone.
The clocks have been tested on HTC Sensation and Samsung Galaxy S II, both of them running Android 2.3.4, and no issues discovered so far.

Thx for adding that...
I just discovered some little pixels which are not so well done by myself... will do an update soon.
And, I am working on the Combat B-Series port now. And wondering if I should port
another model, like with orange lume. Will see...
The fun part for me is still the fact that Crazy Home offers different home screens, like CHT... which allows fast switching between different layouts.

Hi Tictac,
Installed Crazy Home lite - looks good already.
Looking forward to the next releases... especially the Lum-tec concept watch
Is there any chance of an option to choose between quartz or mechanical movement for the seconds hand (ie jerky vs smooth); is this feasible at all?
Thanks A LOT already
cheers

Hi Ben,
I guess it *would* be possible... but that will need some programming.
The current solution is fine for now, as it is extremely battery friendly.
I hope sooner or later, there will be a solution for different movement behavior, show date etc.
Maybe Crazydude will jump in, I wrote an email asking about this kind of stuff...

I would like to say yes, but i haven't got the focus and so far wp7 has proved to be very picky about what we can change in the rom, therefore making very difficult to test, never the less i will do some research about it.

Here's the thing - what kind of value do you think you are adding to the device by skinning it? You're providing an uglier, fragmented UI - things that Android OEMs are hated for.
Didn't mean to offend you personally, but all these custom ROMs I'm checking out are stuffed with bloat. If you go back to the roots with Windows Mobile or Android, custom ROMs are to get rid of the clutter. I don't see why Windows Phone tweakers think they should do the opposite.

Thanks for the feedback, the idea is to have a black backdrops but so far I had no success I changing the font color.
In the same note, I refuse to to wear pink trousers! Just because my wife likes it I m not forced to wear them. I will explain reasons behind the theme later on.Have a nice day.

Here is the reason behind the theme…..
The theme is part of a bigger project to customize all the icons in the rom , this will look great with a black backdrop/accents and will gives us better battery due to the nature of the screen.
As you may know , or not, using the same theme colour and accents renders the highlighted letters invisible, so we need to change the color of the font,so far we have been unableto do so plus at the moment if you try to cook a custom theme into the rom it simply breaks the unsigned apps unlock rendering unsigned apps useless .
You're providing an uglier, fragmented UI - things that Android OEMs are hated for.

Whats the point then? Lets just use the carrier rom! What do you expect? Different oems different skins etc,if it really bother people they should get an iphone.
Really… let not confuse things here, this is one device alone, neither m I using a different framework for the theme, this is not Htc sense VS Touchwiz, So In theory you can flash any update into my rom provided its is the same version without breaking anything.
In windows mobile chefs integrated apps to save space but users could not remove them, but guess what pretty much every app in my rom can be uninstalled by the user plus we don’t have limited space on our devices as windows mobile devices did.
All we are doing is trying to better our devices but its is early days, and we just started scratching the surface and I for one had enough of flat metro theme after a year stuck with it.
In the end the choice is yours.
Regards
Faria
I will personally deal with all the people who FORCE others to use their ROM
But if it's free to use and free NOT to use, I really can't see what's wrong then
Keep up the good work people, the things are cooking up for Omnia7 these days and it's nice to see it.

Custom ROMs allow for tweaks not possible with a carrier ROM - examples being a higher number of apps shown in the task switcher, and a full unlock. I think it's very hard to say that either of those tweaks will be bad for a user of a custom ROM. The same cannot be said about skinning Windows Phone. Also, Windows Mobile wasn't purely about saving space, it was about optimising the ROM to run better and nicer.
If you'll take any advice from me, remember this: you are never going to get away from Metro on Windows Phone. The apps you use will have it. There will be underlying bits of UI which you will be unable to skin. I will guarantee that you will end up creating something that is neither beautiful in the way Sense or iOS can be, nor industrial like Metro.
If you read reviews of Android devices, you'll see that often the manufacturer skins that OEMs provide do offer extended functionality that can be useful. However, the UI changes and custom launchers are almost universally received poorly. Ever wondered why Microsoft isn't allowing any manufacturers to skin the UI? Hint: it's not just them being control freaks.

I like a lot of things about the ROM. I'm not going to get angry if Faria doesn't keep things stock, I simply won't use it as you say. However, I think the concept of providing a semi-skinned ROM is a bad move by default. In fact, trying to skin Metro at all is a sign that you don't understand good design and UI. I don't mean to offend Faria or anyone else, but you'll never get your skin to fully extend into third-party apps and other experiences. Hence, you will always be fragmenting the interface by trying to introduce your own skin.
Sorry if I've offended anyone here, but good design is something that Microsoft has lacked for a long time. I feel like Metro is their break.

Regardless, I wish you the best in your endeavour. It's ambitious, I'll give you that. I can see how your skin will be nice if it's fully implemented, most of my uncalled-for bashing was related to the co-existence of conflicting design languages - either is fine by itself, but when combined they don't work.
I'm worried that you're going to run into heaps of restrictions (ie. how the start screen background is a solid colour). If you somehow get this thing working, hats off to you!
Fix Omnia 7 Bluetooth issue?
My Omnia 7 currently gets stuck at searching for bluetooth devices, does this rom solve this?
This is, IMHO, the best Omnia 7 Tango ROM out there.
Everything works and looks great. Battery life is fantastic too. A lot better than the Mi7ROM which is currently doing the rounds.
Thanks for your hard work. Looking forward to the next version (if there is one).
This one's a keeper!!!!

This is an unqualified comment, because mi7ROM isn´t "doing the rounds" here. mirolg was one of the first cookers after DFT has released the first custom rom. Also he was the first who cooked in the HTC drivers.
How this rom could be "a lot better" than other roms ? All available roms are only dumped. With all respect but the cookers are only replacing packages or adding packages from different builds or other custom roms...
Next time remember your thanksmeter before you post unqualified comments.
Thanks.
