yah i make wallets and sell em at school 3 bucks a wallet and i even have workers and investers XD

i see no problem with it (though you should make a write up complete with pics so we can try it).
If you've ever seen Ducti, they make all sorts of duct tape stuff like wallets and purses.

Hmm, I made one for my Axim X51v out of tape, Gorilla Tape. It lasted 2 years and even had a belt clip. I covered my axim in masking tape then duct tape to get stared, cut that off carefully it gave me a good pattern. You better take pictures if you do this!

K ill take pics i was just wondering if there is any extra adhesive left if it would melt and get in the phone

It could gum things up. How about making a "dual-pane" version with an inner duck tape lining-- two layers of tape put sticky sides together? Or even better, make the inner lining felt or something else. Or maybe not.
I ran across a homemade case, looks like it's made out of a plastic bag, or maybe ????

the project took 3 days. im pretty happy how it came out although im still waiting for the paint to fully dry.
i sanded the phone down
painted using krylon fusion white satin
dried 24hrs
clearcoat paint
dried another 24 hrs
i used a xacto knife to mask the parts i was not going to paint
i was going to leave the buttons unpainted. its pretty easy just get a pieace of painters tape and stick it on then cut along the grooves. i had done this before when i first had painted the phone black but that did not work out. IF you dont sand your phone it will peel off. next week when the paint has dried fully im going to use the knife to cut out the excess paint along the small areas.
tips
make sure you cover the screen before you begin sanding.
you should probably not do too many coats unless you sand the phone down a lot, one coat for paint and clearcoat is enough, you dont want the phone looking bloated.you should probably tape off the buttons because when you press them the corners wont chip. use a knife to cut into the grooves.just stick a piece of tape on the speaker whole and stuff it.i will be cutting out the bluetooth light and the charge light in as soon as it dries although they shine through just fine. i also had sanded down that rubber piece on the back because it kept getting lost. for best results make sure you let phone dry alot 4 days later and the paint can still ding easily but it does not chip which is good. ill keep you guys updated.
[moved to wizard upgrading forum. nice work ,regards ,faria]
my cat took my rubber piece on the back...... darn cat
nnnnniiiiiiccccccceeeeeeeeee . Much better than this one, but I salute to his creativity and courage. Although he seems to be selling off his phone (in whole or parts).
can we have a close up look at your buttons? and how does the keyboard looks like,
looks sweet mate...
what is the today theme you used in the bottom right pic of the first post?
the vista looking one... is that a wisbar jobby?
yep
wisbar and wisbar desktop theme really nice but a lil too much on my not so fast 8125.its called VistaBetaTWO.
One of the coolest paintjobs yet As soon as I get a new device I'll start trying these things out myself
Great Job!
Wow... is it me? What paint job are youse people talking about?
I was merely referring to all the different variations of the wizard... The two mentioned in this thread is as far as I know the only two paintjobs that are "homemade"
It would be great to see a close-up of the paint quality on your Wizard100... I wasn't too big of a fan of the other guy's Wizard200's paint quality.
niceeee... but im not dat daring enough to cover the buttons.. here is the pic of mine.. i did black before but didnt look dat great hence white.. hope you like it.. takes ages to do it but its worth it..
would fit to an iPod, wouldnt it?
This is really sick lookin'
Props.
wow, looks sweet...
i would have kept the directional pad and the such silver though...

Interesting mod.. or rather decoration
While browsing through eBay (yeah, I have no life), I saw this 'mod' on a Wizard. I'm not particularly fond of the way the front was decorated, but the back was impressive. It is up for sale at eBay. Wonder if she (I presume) is a member here.
I am looking for black case
For collection sake, I thought I should keep a link here

Everyone Seems to be saying that they did theirs in Black then white.
Honestly i don't think i'll ever change mine now, i LOVE it in black.
I used Krylon Fusion Black, and Their Clear Coat.

I used Krylon Fusion Black, and Their Clear Coat.
The process;
Tap everything that you don't want painted, if you're not disassembling.
Sand sand sand sand.
You have to sand, a lot and it's very meticulous.
I used a rough grain, to give it a rough texture, and used satin paint to help
Painted that black, let it cook in the FL sun for 3 hours.
Then did 5 coats of the clear coat, It caused the black to turn alittle grayish but it's not bad.
Nicely done! I like it a lot.

Black Wizard (case mod)

Well I plucked up the courage to paint my Wizard black.

I'm 95% happy with it, although the paint has a couple of chips where I put it back together when it wasn't 100% hard and/or had not adhered to the surface. I didn't sand it down first, which may turn out to be a mistake. If the paint starts to chip I will sand it down and re-apply it. I used Plasti-kote Satin Black (2 coats) then Clear Acrylic (2 coats), which is supposed to dry in 30-40 minutes.
All in all the paint worked pretty well - it came out pretty smooth, and the paint remained reasonably thin.
Nice work.
I can see that you had very sterile painting conditions. I once painted my amiga500 outside and it got all dusty.
I've never understood someone wanting to do something like this, but wow, after seeing how yours turned out, that is Really nice! I really like how it looks (but not sure I'm ready to pull mine apart to do that)
Great job!
I have to say that look really nice...I want to do something like that...
Damn dog. That's pretty sic. I like it. Impressive!
Looks damn good! I don't think I have the cajones to do something like this though. Great job.
Thanks for the positive feedback guys.
I understand (and promote!) being reticent about taking your beloved Wizard apart. I've damaged it in a few ways because of it. Thank god I got the Wizard reasonably cheaply so it's not so painful. (I might put together a horror stories post. )
I can provide a day #2 upload that the paint is holding up in an ok fashion. There's may be 5-6 tiny specks where the paint has come off, so I'm likely to hold out and see how it holds out over the next week.
: \
sorry bro but I am not a fan of the look of the qtek/mda/xda models...but this makes them look a lot better and not as feminie, cheers
Nice black wizard. We have a white and a black The back panel's paint job is better than I've expected, with all the grooves, which may cause problems if thick layer of paint are applied.
BTW, I think you ought to have your stylus's "butt" painted as well
Very nice!
I've been wanting to fins a spare 8125 case to try and paint black. In case I mess it up, it would be just a spare so I wouldn't have to use it, haha
Looks good though!

You can find a service manual on the net for it. Search for 'prodigy service manual'. You will need a couple of tiny screwdrivers:

If you do I'd be interested to hear your experience with it. I asked my father about it (retired auto/car painter) and he suggested using scotch bright for the sanding. I've yet to try it though..
is there anywhere where i could find a through tutorial on how to do this?? it looks awesome!
Looks very nice
I have an extra and am thinking about painting it. I used to build model cars when I was younger, and we would always use a very fine sandpaper. I don't remember the grit on it. It was a silicon carbide or aluminum oxide. Those papers both work great for plastic. I may give it a shot. If I do I will post the pics.
Peace,
Hmmm Waiting for the tuto!
Can someone make one?
How is the paint job holding up? I'd like to do this to mine, but I'm waiting to see if I need to sand it down first.
That's gorgeous. Very inspiring. I might have to hit up some painter friends of mine.
Hey its gorgeous but can you write a guide how to do that. THNX.

Very nice !
A couple of thoughts:
* buy a cheap silicon skin to protect the back and edges of the plastic body: this would require you to increase the size of your alloy brackets, but the rubbery grip would make the Tab much more secure in the stand cradle.
* get rid of this awful useless screen protector (Gorilla glass is tough enough, and the silicon skin would prevent the alloy brackets to touch the display anyway)
Keep up the good work, and let us know about your incremental improvements / design revisions !

But what you made has some sweet style.
I really like this stand. I have one of those leather cases with a built-in stand, but id like something like this as well. Or a more portable, possibly folding version of the mesh card holder. Looks great so far though!

Velcro is pretty strong (read an article before where they wanted to use it in place of blots for building lightelweiht planes) ,you might even have trouble prying it off the stand! been using it everyday and the tab has never fallen off. if I feel like the Velcro is loosing grip, I can just replace it for $1.

HD2 backcover --> polished

Hey folks...

Deep scratches, the clear lacquer sayd goodbye at some spots and so on. I think u know
So i decided to do something against it
On the pictures below you can see the result...

You need..
~ 3 different kinds of abrasive paper with something about 280, 350, 400 granulation.
polishing paste
toothpaste (xtra white) xD
and an old t-shirt or something like that.. (for polishing)
____________________________________________________________
Take the roughest abrasive paper first and remove the paint.
This could be little tricky cause the backcover has this "brushed" look, so you have to remove all this little "brushed look" lines.
After the paint is gone take the next paper (take little water and wet it) and grind it always in the same direction. (no circle moves, this would ruin it)
Now take the finest paper and again take a little water to make it extra fine and grind it too.
Now the backcover should be free of any painting and the surface should be smooth...
To make it high shiny take the polishing paste and a part of ure old shirt or whatever and start polishing xD
This can take a little while cause the backcover is made of "stainless steel"
Finnish it with some toothpaste the same way you did with the polishing paste.
After cleaning it unter hot water with a little liquid soap dry it and look at your wonderfull shiny backcover
greets
Ray
I think its made of aluminium not stainless steel, but otherwise its awesome looking! i remember someone else doing that on here too

The problem is, an original HTC backcover costs about 25$ (20€)... to much to have lets say 5 or 10 in stock And i dont want to buy this stuff from "hong kong" its about 12$ but you dont know what you get ..
off topic: check this out guys, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=905670 best looking hd2...
I polished mine to a mirrored finish and it shows every hand print and it scratches very easily, but it hasn't tarnished in the 4-5 months since I polished it.
I polished it by first using a belt sander with medium grit (220) and sanding against the grain of the textured lines on the back. Then I used a buffing wheel with some emery buffing compound to get rid of the sanding marks. After that I switched to a yellow buffing compound gave it a final polish.
I thought the polished back was too smooth so I decided to give it a little texture by using a plastic stencil, some spray adhesive, masking tape, and a $10 flea market sandblaster with about 80psi with silica sand.

I like that idea, but I tried some different paints prior to the sandblasting and nothing seem to hold very well. I don't know what the metal is but I tried bluing it and it didn't change a bit. I even tried a translucent paint dip that I thought I could clear coat but it was flaking off just from handling it before I could even start clear coating.
If I were going to try it again I think I would try an aluminum paint primer then paint it before sandblasting the stencil.
That toothpaste idea worked great for taking out the fine scratches that were on it.

Looking for a clamp-to-desk mount with magnet-to-phone gooseneck arm

Happy new year folks
I've been looking for something like this for a while and have come up with nothing. I'm at the point where I think I have to buy two items and jerryrig them together to get what I want.
What I need is a gooseneck arm for my phone on my desk. The phone needs to be held on with a magnet and the gooseneck needs to be clamped to my desk.
Basically I want to combine this

with this
Every gooseneck I've ever seen has a clamp on the phone end. My thought is to glue the above circular magnetic mount to the gooseneck and then just cut away everything else with a dremel.
Has anyone ever seen what I'm looking for?

Thanks, I'd not seen that before! I'm not thrilled with the scissors style clamp though. My desk is about 1.5" thick and very smooth on top and underneath, I'd be worried that if the clamp is knocked the whole thing would pop off.

How did you find this? I swear, sometimes my wife, who sits behind me, and I can both do a search on each of our Windows 10 Pro desktops, in Chrome, using the same words, and get different results.
The Benks Magnetic Cell Phone Holder is completely, EXACTLY, what I have been wanting and looking for five months!!!!
Thanks so much!!!!
I just ordered the Benks Holder from amazon. I found it at aliexpress for six dollars less, but I keep stuff in my amazon shopping cart that all apply for free shipping and when I get enough of them to qualify I place the order (I'm not Prime).
Thanks again!!!
lol. understand about different results. i think google bases results from what you've searched for before. (since they keep every little scrap of info for years and years).
yay! glad that one fits the bill and you were able to find it even cheaper.:good:
for slippery desk surfaces , you could always put a small square piece of thin rubber between mount surface and desk surface. just a thought.
That arm had the desk clamp, but it also has a phone clamp. I need the phone to be held on with a magnet.
