AT&T Tilt broken screen - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

My sister's boyfriend gave me his Tilt because he bought a Blackberry. Long story, he broke the first Tilt, they replaced it for him and he broke it again and he was told it would cost $500 to repair... so he bought the new phone and gave me the Tilt for free. So here's the deal: it will charge and turn on.. but only stays on for a few seconds. The LCD is cracked... pretty obvious. However, I was wondering if there was another problem since the phone won't stay on or if it's typical for it to turn off with just a broken screen. This is basically the sequence of events:
Hit the power button, a green LED on the left of the ear piece lights up and the phone vibrates for a second.
The screen then lights up but doesn't display anything obviously... other then the black liquid and white back lighting.
The screen stays on for about 15 seconds, shuts off, the keyboard lights up for a VERY quick second and then that's it... nothing else.
I'm wondering if I should try and find a replacement screen or if there is something else wrong with it. I saw the screen on phoneystore.com a while back but the site has said it's down for maintenance every other time I checked.
Other Info - I took the back cover off and above and slightly to the right of the camera is a black dot that says "VOID".
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks.

Normally you only get the vibrate if you are turning on from the completely off position.
From the completely off position you have to long press the on/off button - is this what you are doing?
In any case, it's difficult to tell if there are any other problems. You could try tracking down on this site, one of thoses applications that lets you see / control the device from your PC.
That $500 figure is I assume for someone to do the repair for you, 'osc the screen would not cost anything like that.
Mike

Also that "void" dot you see I think is just over a screw and if you go inside your tilt you'd have to poke through that and it would void your warranty. So thats not because the screen is broken.

well, i don't have to hold it long before the green LED comes on and the phone vibrates... then the screen shuts off and i have to turn it back on again. it doesn't seem like it's staying on.
the $500 was from AT&T to have them fix it... so yes.
and thanks for the reply on the "VOID" - i thought it maybe had something to do with water damage or the cracked screen.

Have you tried turning it on with the wall charger plugged in? I thought I had seen my sons just shut down like that when his battery was pretty much dead and I was trying to turn it on.

Well, i was bored waiting for work this morning so i decided to put the SIM from my phone into the Tilt... I turned it on with my SIM in and it stayed on for longer... then I heard a little tick and kind of "whooosh" sound which I'm assuming is the start-up sound. Then nothing for a few seconds... then there is this "kerplunk" noise.. then the amber LED on the left of the ear piece starts flashing and then the phone starts vibrating and making a high pitch ring... the vibrating seems to be in a patter. Then I hear what sounds like it may be a shutdown noise and the phone is off again. However, the back light on the screen remained on the entire time. It might that with the SIM in it works, but the battery is dead so it turns right off? I have the wall charger here somewhere so I will have to try that after work. I will let you know the results.

most likely the sounds that your hearing are just an alarm clock going off. my guess is that the screen is the only thing that is really damaged. you can look online at ebay and get replacement screens with the tools necessary to replace the screen for under 100 bucks. i think that would be a good deal for you... keep us updated on the status

if possible if you are going to replace the screen from ebay you should take piectures. it would make a very nice guide for the noobs

yeah... i will definitely take pictures when i do it. i hope it's just the screen. i don't know why it won't stay on tho... i'm still trying to find the charger for it. i don't remember where i put it. i will keep you posted tho.

You can charge it with any USB mini type B lead plugged into a PC. You probably have one somewhere for a camera or other phone.
Don't be fooled by the shape of the socket on the bottom of the phone, it still fits.

mikechannon - do you know the name of any of these apps? i'm not able to find anything..
good news tho.. the phone now stays on and i am able to receive phone calls. i found a screen w/ tools for $70 shipped on e-bay. i want to try what you mentioned mike, hook it up to the pc. i just want to make sure everything seems okay before i buy a screen.

try my mobiler

okay... so i put the new LCD in and it works.. to an extent. it displays the at&t splash screen, then the 3G animation, then gets to the windows mobile 6.0 splash screen and it hangs there for a few seconds then shuts off. i thought maybe it needed a new battery because it wouldn't stay on before so i ran to the store and got one and it's charging now. i'm going to wait a few hours and try again...
when i try and turn the phone on when it's plugged into the charger it seems to hang on the at&t screen... this doesn't seem normal.
also, when it's not plugged in and goes through the screens, on the at&T screen it looks like it's showing RGB values or something in red text in the bottom right corner of the screen. is this normal?

Sorry, did not see your 3/22/08 post.
The RGD values in RED are normal (info about radio version etc) if you are starting from the off position or have just done a soft reset.
I'm not sure why it is hanging at the point it does. I am assuming you have done a hard reset? (you may have said - but I have not read back all the posts)
Mike

nope... no hard reset.
when i turn it on while it's plugged in the amber LED on the ear piece goes out for a minute, the AT&T screen comes up then a few seconds later the amber LED comes back on and it just stays there.
i was able to get it to get past the windows mobile 6.0 splash screen but it says 6 new notifications/alarms, then starts buzzing and ringing and turns off. one time it said battery was critically low or something. i want to assume that it is charging because the amber LED comes on.. but who knows. i would hate to have to give up at this point.

Actually that all sounds pretty normal. Yes expect to get a whole bunch of notifications that have accumulated and never been cancelled. When they come up try to cancel them quickly - just choose dismiss. Don't be surprised if there are so many that it crashes the device and you have to re-start possibly several times until eventually you get past all those notifications!! This also happens when you restore a backup - I have seen my device go absolutely bananas with many many notifications and a crash is not unexpected.
If the battery is not charged give it a good hour of charging before trying again. One thing that puzzles me is that if you have the amber light that shows charging (good) then why does it give you a message saying battery low?? Normally you will never get that notification whilst on charge.
Mike

mike,
thanks for the replies. i was able to dismiss a few of them earlier and then the battery message came up and the phone turned off. it wasn't plugged in at the time. however, i left for the day and left it plugged in for probably 7 hours or more...turned completely off...and i came home and it got past the windows splash screen again and then said the main battery was critically low and turned off. can't get it to stay on now. i'm lost...
it seems like my only other option is to try a new charger.. but if the LED comes on it would seem as though it is working. i checked all of the contacts where the battery goes and like i said earlier, i bought a new battery this morning. i really don't want to take it apart again. while it was apart i did my best to clean the any dust or other build-up. i guess i could try and charge it on the computer.

my phone does the same thing I accidently dunked about an inch of it the top of the phone into a cup, thought it was ok after i let it dry off and it would boot up but I still can't get the phone to really charge, the orange light will go on but the battery never charges and I used to get the red critical battery warning. Ive tried a bunch of different chargers but still nothing just gets to the second splash screen in duttys rom and turns off now. Hopefully you can get your up though, just wish i could get 30 minutes of battery to get it back to stock rom and everything so i could send it back as the bottom never got wet and the water check under the battery is still white.

Mmmm. Well sounds like there is a hardware charging problem. Pity you don't have one of those chargers where you can dock a spare battery to charge it up. It would be a hassle though if that's the only way to charge the battery. There are ways to charge the battery by wiring the battery directly to a set of AA batteries or a charger, but that would not solve the problem in the long run.
There are companies that will replace the USB connection on the M/board but that would be to assume that is where the fault is - and I'm not convinced it is. The fact that the orange charge LED comes on suggests the USB connection may be ok and that it may be the battery connection block that has a broken connection. This is not easy to repair if at all. I have seen one reported case where that block with the gold connectors had broken connections and a repair company could not resolder all the connections.
One thing to try regarding the battery connector block. With the luck of the Gods it might just be that one or more pins is not making a good batter contact. Try cleaning the pins and battery contacts. (A bit of a forlorn hope though)
Mike

well, good news!
i left it plugged into the computer all night and turned it on this morning and it went through all of the alarms... i dismissed them all. it then stayed on!!! so i went to the system settings and looked at the battery life and it said it was at 100%. perhaps it was the charger... which would be odd. now when it's plugged into the PC the amber LED comes on for a second then switches to green. i'm going to try and use it for the day and make sure i can turn it on and off without any problems. the AT&T store is closed here today so i'll have to get a charger one day during the week. i will post back at the end of the day.

Red light of death fixed!!! (sticky???)

I think I just figured out how to fix it!!!!!!! I was tinkering around and got my red light brick to turn on!!!! I'm not sure exactly what fixed it so here's everything I did-
1. Removed the storage & sim cards.
2. Took off the backplate.
3. Removed the battery.
4. Bent these 2 pins up a little bit:
5. Put the battery in at an angle, so that the power leads were connected, but the metal shielding plate on the back of the battery was not touching:
6. Hit the power button (with the battery still "halfway" installed) Bam, green light of life.
Somebody please confirm this. Meanwhile I'll be copywriting this process so anyone who performs it owes me 10 bucks
So my replacement Tilt isn't working either, so they're overnighting me a third one. In the meantime, I haven't sent back my original (RLoDed) Tilt, so I thought I'd play around with some of your theories.
skuzz said:
Another thought I had. After the tilt goes into red brick death mode, has anyone tried plugging it into power, battery installed, and then holding down power+camera(all the way) and then pushing in the reset button on the bottom? This may trigger it to go into flash mode - although I kinda doubt it'll work. Worth a shot! Might be able to reflash it back to life! Holding down power and camera while it boots is how you manually force it to get in the Red/Green/Blue firmware flash mode. If it let us do that much when the device bricked we might have a snowball's chance in hell of getting them working. I didn't think of trying it before I returned mine tho. D'oh!

I didn't know what to try besides installing the battery and SIM card and trying to push down the power, camera, and stylus buttons (I knew I was doing it correctly, because I had to use this to return my second Tilt to factory specs). No response whatsoever! This thing is deader than a doornail. Except for the red LED, of course... that works REALLY well whenever it's plugged in.

I appreciate your enthusiasm, but the only thing I can confirm is that this did NOT work on my RLoDed Tilt. Tried it several times in various ways. I think you just seriously lucked out!
As such, I'd also have to vote against stickying this... for now.
Best of luck, all... if not actually in fixing your RLoDed Tilts, then definitely in avoiding the $500 service fee if AT&T discovers we voided our warranties.
alright i will confirm this too....my phone was truely RLOD..... i did the same thing that these guys did just jammin the battery in and out and it "jump started the phone"
exact process used
Moto Razr charger
hold down power button
"bounce" battery on and off the contacts for the battery a good 100 times or so
green light apeared after the red light started to flicker a little bit..... tis as if you were giving the phone CPR or something
im not going to call this a fix all i know is that the phone was RLOD and now it is working....battery is at 54% right now and i will post back in a bit to see if it has risen at all....
no smell arising from device
running origional rom but have had other roms on there (alex's)
hard SPL still installed on device
SPB phone suite is the last software that was installed on the device
reg tweaks installed as well, the usual ones no sms, hsdpa enabled blah blah blah
that is about all i can provide....the unit was on the computer overnight charging....when i woke up it was RLOD....and i was sad....i did have the ATT store replace the battery for me as well dunno if that had anything to do with the issue...
in the time that it has taken me to write this the battery is now at 55% so it is charging.....on wall charger with MOTO razr charger
ok lets take a little closer look at what happened within the past little bit....
after gettin the device all up and running it was behaving very oddly.... it would go through multiple attempts to connect to the data network for various reasons....after showing that it was at 55% on the charger it went back down to 54%... i pulled it off the charger and took it into the other room to do something......within 10 min it was down to 46%....now having a data connection my blackberry connect should have a valid network connection....but it did not... not sure why...
the best that i can conclude is that it was trying to connect to so many things all at the same time that it exhausted its self that fast....
so the question is how many people out there that have RLOD are running the BB connect software on there devices and have made REG edits to the data connection time outs and the HSDPA mod availability
editing those settings together may confuse the device and make it think that it has to connect to too many things at one time....
just another thought process that i thought that i would throw out there...
here are some things on the my device that would use the DATA connection and automatically initiate the connection on the device rather than you opening a program forcing it to connect such as Internet explorer
GPS update
HTC home weather tab
SPB weather tab
Blackberry connect
SPB insight....RSS Reader
text messages going in and out....my phone sees quite a few of those

There have been a few other people who have now fixed their RLOD's. Confirmed it was done by messing about with the battery. If you have revived yours, please post your method in here so we can compare them and eventually pinpoint the fix. Thanks.
i had the same prob..took out the batterly wiped the four contact points on the phone (might of pushed them down or up) and put battery back in and worked..
I believe sWuRv was onto something. My Tilt had the RLOD today. I tried everything, even what he suggested above to no avail. So I called warranty and got my replacement on it's way, express shipping waved and all. So I decided to everything I could think of to try and get the thing back on so I might be able to back up my data again.
I started fooling with the battery, like sWuRv suggested but I moved it all around at 45 degrees or so pushing the power on button. I noticed while it was plugged to the USB with red light on that every now and then the red light would flash when I moved the battery so the contacts moved (while holding the battery at that 45 degrees). I started getting the light to go yellow but it would not stay. So I unplugged from the USB and kept trying it while pushing the power button. It eventually started and I was able to back up to my SD card. One thing I can tell you is that this process caused the phone to get hot and smell like electronics burning a little. There is definitely a power problem inside.
I have no idea how or why this worked but it did. I think I will still take the replacement even though I have to figure out how to swap my fancy invisible armor clear protector skin.
I'll try and update on whether this phone dies again or what until I get the new one.

I tried messing with the battery in a variety of ways for 30 minutes with no sucess. RLOD stayed solid.

Holy shoot............After bouncing my battery up and down about 40 times my phone came to life!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Reseating the battery and/or sim/storage cards is hardly a revolutionary procedure. Its Cellphone 101.
you guys are LIFE SAVERS. I have been on this forum for about a month now and I finally found a reason to post. I haven't posted because I always find my answers. I just wanted to thank everyone, as I have been on the phone with Amazon.com (where i got my tilt), went into an AT&T store and was on the phone with HTC tech support ALL day trying to resolve my red light issue. Unbelievable that all I needed to do was give it some "battery CPR":
UGHHHH. Well i found reason to make post #2. The fix lasted less than 5 minutes.
this did not work for me
These stories remind me off all the bad batteries/no powerup of my Motorola Q and those of others. My mother is on her 4th Q and I know its the battery, but the store just swaps out the whole phone. I've seen batteries last as little at 2 weeks, especially if let run down to empty at any point.
My questions are, is this just a bad battery problem? Does anyone with RLoD have a spare battery to try? If these batteries fail in the shorted condition, will they over draw power from the phone and mess up the charging circuit?

I certainly don't believe it's a bad battery problem. I had 2 spare batteries, fully charged with separate docking charger - none of the 3 batteries made any difference once I got the RLOD.

Very good, thanks for the insight!
I finished a call yesterday and then dropped my phone on to the pavement cos I was a bit drunk... Anyway this caused my phone to go from working fine (all be it with pants battery life) to just flashing the red light. Fixed it today. I tried the methods prescribed in this thread without success although I did not persevere for very long. I then put a spare battery in to the phonea and bingo the orange light comes on, phone boots up and it's now happilly charging. Note that I charged the old battery for several hours before trying the fix. Pity nobody seems to know what the problem actually is. I wish HTC would let us know....

I had a similar problem with my old iPAQ hw6515, and a Motorola V3. The contacts on the battery don't spring forward as well on an older phone as they do when it was new. I shimmed the battery. I did this by taking a business card and holding it against the opposite side of the battery from the contacts I traced the battery's profile and cut it out. I scotch taped my new shim to that side of the battery, then re-inserted it. This forces the battery up against the contacts better and in many times resolves inoperable phones, failure to charge, and spontaneous rebooting issues.

My replacement tilt (first one had a bad USB connector) died Sunday.
Had it on the charger, looked down, red LED. Back of phone was pretty
warm. Pulled the battery, SIM, memory card, slammed the battery onto the
battery contacts rapidly 5-6 times, put the SIM, memory, battery back into
it, and it charged up. Did a hard reset. Battery was 100% charged, I turned
it completely OFF when I went to bed. Got up, battery was 0% drained!
Red LED again. Did the rapid thingy with the battery again, orange charge
light came on.
Called at&t warranty replacement. When I told her I had a red LED, she didn't
even ask me to do anything else. She just asked for the IMIE number and shipped me another one.
Maybe the 3rd one will be the charm LOL.......
I'm beginning to think that HTC doesn't stand for "high tech computes" but
"high tech CRAP"....
Maybe you guys got the margin of error productions? I know its really unlikely that you could get them again after a replacement but it is possible, and it maybe your computer. What do you think could be making this things go crazy? Overly protective anti-virus, I know, I know but it could do things secretly and screw around like mine does and wont let me into sites I have been on before on the same app no changes . . . Well I hope you luck.
ok I just tried everything you guys said, but it didn't work for me
so as some of you have stated it must be the battery, so what I did is put it between my hands for about 1 minute and put it in and it worked again!
really weird... must be the heat?
well hope that helps the research
Cheers

Tytn II possibly dead HELP!!!

It looks like my Tytn II might be bricked... I have searched and searched and can not find any info on this. The phone will not turn on. I know the battery is dead, but it should have the power to try to boot. In fact, I have not used it in a while and I just tryed to boot it, it got to the starting screen, then the windows loading screen, and then I walked away for a few minutes and came back it and it was a black screen. Tried to turn on again and it did not power up. Upon plugging it into the charger, I get a solid red light on the top. When I remove the battery from the phone as the charger is connected the LED immediately changes to solid orange, and the blue led next to it comes on as well. When I disconnect the charger all the LEDs go off (obviously because theres no battery) and when i put the battery back in the phone i get a dim red light.
is the phone bricked? im thinking it might have slight water damage but it has been like 2 weeks since then so it should have dryed up i assume. tried to reset a few times with the little reset button next to the charger port, nothing. is it possible the battery may just be done for? any help or suggestions would be great. thanks.
I had that isue but i just leaved the phone on charger and everything came back to normal It's still working very well. But, i cant remember how i get into that situation but i surely know that i saw red light on top .
thanks, now that its been on the charger for a while i now get an orange LED. i will let it charge for a while and see if it awakens after almost 3 weeks of utter deadness.
Try waking it while on charge itslef.

just tried and it got to the very first boot screen and then went black and the orange and blue LEDs stayed on. tried to reset, no luck. unplugged charger, still LEDs stayed on. so then I took the battery out, all LEDs went out, plugged it back in and now i get the same red LED again.
update: now i get a orange LED as its plugged into the charger, but when i try to turn it on it gives the first boot screen for like 3 or 4 seconds then turns off...
I am getting exactly the same problem?
I tried to install android - got it working, came on a few times - then just totally died - It showt he HTC boot logo, but then just turns off.
Does anyone have any ideas.
does your computer see it when plugged in via usb?
perhaps this will help? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=358136
oh and also you have tried to enter the bootloader mode right?
I've had this issue, millions of times. What I do when I have problems like this (and problems like when I turn it on, it says the battery is low when it isnt, and when you connect your charger/USB, it dies on you)
Try removing and putting the battery back on.
so in simple words
charge the battery first (dont bother trying to turn it on)
and then remove the charger (this plays a big role)
take out the battery, put it back in, hope it works.
The same thing just happened to me, I thought it was toast. I would get the red light when I plugged into the charger, and after a few minutes it would turn to orange. I tried to turn it on then, and it would start to boot up, then shut off a few seconds later. This happened a few times. I just left it plugged in overnight, and when I woke up it was on! Only problem I've noticed is the orange LED is always on, but I can live with that

AT&T Tilt 8925 - At a Loss - please help

I have spent 2 hours looking at forums and none have solved my problem. I will try and state as best possible of what is and what has happened.
When I take the battery out and plug in the charger, it displays a red light at the top left. Sometimes, depending on how long I wait, when I put the battery back in, it either has no lights or turns to Orange. Once, when it turn to Orange, I did a soft reset and it went to the white AT&T screen and just stayed there. I hit the soft reset again and it went to the Red, Green, Blue and White Screen. After seraching, I found out that it was called the bootloader screen. But on mine, there is no writing whatsover, like serial or whatever...just the color bars. When I try and plug it up to the usb on my computer I get nothing. It looks like it will not soft reset unless I put the battery back in and the light goes Orange, that's the only timw it will do it. If I put the battery in and it turns the red light off...it will not do anything...nothing.
Can somebody PLEASE help me try and figure out what to do here? I don't think I will be able to load anything on it since nothing happens when I plug in the usb to the computer.
Thanks for taking the time for listening. And also, I have not loaded anything for 2-3 weeks now onto the phone and this just happened late last night. Thanks again!
Monty
Update...had the battery out and nothing plugged into it for about 30 minutes. Put the Battery in, it powered up, went to the first AT&T screen and immediately went back dead again. If I put the battery in and hook it to the charger, it doesn't charge...so I don't think it is the issue with a dead battery...maybe?
PLEASE HELP...Can't really afford another phone right now.
Sounds like you need a new battery.
But should it power up with the phone charger plugged in...good battery or not?
I don't think so, these phones are pretty strange when it comes to bad batterys. Hopefully you know someone with a tilt that you can swap batterys with.
Even if the battery is dead, it should still start the phone and not go into boot loader. Do you have the OEM or a custom ROM? YOu may also want to try and hard reset. Press and hold the 2 dash buttons down (the ones above messages and internet); the while holding them down, insert the stylis into the reset hole, and let the phone reset. once it resets and goes to the hard reset gray screen, let go of the dash buttons. Then when it asks if you want to reset, press the green send button and let the phone hardrest.
If the battery is dead, and will not charge, the phone should not turn on (at least that was my experence, when I had a bad battery). This is just very wierd
Update #2 - I just went to Batteries Plus and they checked the Battery and said it had absolutely nothing...maybe those times it came up completely drained it.
So I forked out $40 bucks for a new battery and they told me to fully charge it before use. So I put it in the phone, plugged the charger into the phone and it looks as though nothing is happening because there are no lights on whatsoever...itsn't there supposed to be?
I have the OEM Rom.
Should I try the hard reset even though the new battery is not fully charged yet?
I wouldn't.
Your phone might be so dead that it doesn't charge the battery, I've seen this in laptops and other devices.
Update 3 - Since it looked as though nothing was happening, I tried the power buttong and nothing...so I took the battery back out, and the red light came on with the charger only plugged in. I tried to put the battery back in a few times and I finally have an orange light lit up while the battery is in and pluuged up to the charger...does that mean it's charging? The light will turn green once fully charged, correct? Anyone know about how long that would take if that's the case?
turn it on, it's a lithium ion battery, it doesn't have a memory.
It's plugged into the charger, orange light is on, but when I press and even hold down the power button, nothing happens????? UGGGHHHHHH
Should I try a soft or hard reset? Want to ask before I do.
Okay...I did a soft reset and it boots up now....for 3 time it went all the way to the main screen and then rebooted itself...now when it rebooted it went to the Red, Green, Blue and White bar screen. There is no writing on the screen, just color bars. Any suggestions?
Just to say... I don't think it's a good idea to have the phone plugged in without the battery...

Dead

I let my phone battery die, and now I can't turn it on.
Usually I get a red light which goes when the battery is in if its charging.
Sometimes I get a red light even when the battery is in and its charging.
If I do a soft reset, sometimes I get a flashing red light on the sides but then nothing.
I managed to get it back briefly by doing all manner of hard resets and soft resets, and taking the battery out and putting it back in over and over again for about half an hour...
Then I left it charging for half an hour or so and carelessly allowed the battery to die again because I needed to take it with me somewhere - so the same thing has happened again.
I left it charging overnight but I'm not having any luck with it this morning... any help would be much appreciated.
yeah similar problem here. my phone warned me the battery was low... i ignored the warning and used it until it died completely. then it wouldn't turn on. it was late so i just plugged it into the wall charger that came with the phone. i dont think it charged cause in the morning it was still flat. if anything i think having it connected to the charger while not charging drained the last a few drops of juice out of it. had a number of confusing red lights coming up in different spots at different times.
i read on here some guy managed to charge it by getting 3 AA batteries and connecting them directly to the battery for a couple of minuets. i did this and managed to turn the phone on! hoooray!
it had 1% and died in less than a couple of minuets even though i had it on the charger. tried the 3 AA battery trick again but to no avail. i think my battery is dead.
i'm pretty certain i will need to get a new one. i hope you are able to get yours working without buying a new battery.
im really annoyed the Sony Erricson batteries work out to be close to $100 AU. i would prefer to get a legit one... but does anyone have any experience with unofficial batteries? are they any good?
Sorry you're in the same boat... Ericsson really should have made this phone so that it can run out of battery.
Interesting - tell me more about the 3 AA battery trick!
sounds like the cells in your battery isnt balancing hence its dying...think you'll need to buy another one / or at least try another one to make sure it is and not the phone...
Hmmm... I fiddled and pressed buttons and took out the charger and put it in, and then kept pressing the on button while I was doing something else...
Suddenly it made the click noise, but it's not back yet.
It seems to have crashed on the 'Sony Ericsson' start up screen with the green logo.
I don't know if it's charging or not, so I'm not sure whether to turn it off to try again (at the risk of losing the battery), or leave it to charge as it is before I turn it off and can't start it again....
At least it's progress
There are a couple vof threads with many solutions. Look for them, they are very useful.
Yeah I've found a few - Thanks... just nothing they mentioned has worked yet
I think the problem I have may be a slightly different now anyway...
Now, if I unplug it I can't turn it on, but if it's plugged into my computer cable I can get it (every time - after about 3 minutes) to go to the Sony Ericsson loading screen but no further (as if there is no hard reset file for it to load). I can do that by plugging it in, then doing a soft reset (which produces flashing lights on the side) then holding on until it clicks (usually trying that a few times). When it clicks the lights on the side flash and it looks like it charges for a second before the lights go off and its just hte loading screen. I left it for 5 minutes and it turned off completely. Nothing happens if it's plugged into the wall cable at all.
Have you any idea how I might be able be get something to load after the loading screen?... Or any thoughts as to whether you think it's likely to be charging when its on that screen?
Thanks
Hmm... It seems you have a software problem as well.
Here is what I would do: get another battery (fully charged) and try one of these hard reset methods:

Something should work...
Sweet - I managed to get the hard reset screen to ask me the question about going back to factory defaults... after that the lights on the side are coming on to show its charging....
I guess there's a chance that when the battery is charged it'll have the juice to get past the loading screen... I hope anyway.
Wow this title gave me a heart attack almost
i thought someone is dead

At&t tilt wont charge or fully boot before and after rom update!!

i have a at&t tilt that i had for about a year and is out of its warranty. recently, it started to turn off at the windows 6.1 screen or even get stuck at the at&t screen then turn off. yesterday i managed to get passed the at&t screen and get to windows mobile 6.1 screen and it said clearing storage and luckily it finished. last time it was clearing storage it made a beep beep beep then turned off. now after it finished i configured the screen and the battery read full but every 30 seconds it would go beep beep beep and turn off. so i read in this forum that maybe a rom update would work so i updated the rom using the original at&t rom from htc.com. the update completed successfully but now it has the same problem of getting stuck on the at&t screen and turn off at clearing storage. now i know there is no problem with the battery because it charges with a orange light but i guess the battery is not getting the energy. i tried 3 different charges even the computer . the light stays orange. i love this phone and i really need to know how to fix this.
I think you're overlooking the obvious, that your battery is almost dead, and giving a false reading in wm. Just because it's showing the orange light and "charging" doesn't mean it is holding it's charge.
If the rom used to be fine, and now, even after a hard reset it seems to be screwing up, then it's going to be a hardware issue. I'd put good odds on that battery though.
Ok thats exactly the problem
Today i took out the battery for 2 hours then put the phone it charge with out battery and put it in and closed the case. Then i left it to charge for about 1 hour and a half and the light turned yellowish greenish however it is still a false reading of 100% what does that mean
Update
After i took it out of charge i was happy to find that it worked with a green light of charge and 100%(i dint know this was a false reading) so i started to set up everything for 20 min and suddenly beep beep beep then turns off. Did i gain any progress? But i know that it sayed a way longer time on so how long shuld i leave it on charge for and accurate reading?
Batteries get old -- order a new battery and give that a try.
Battery is toast... buy a new one like i said. Buy from a shop and take it back if it doesn't solve the problem.
Thanks
Thanks to both ill buy a new battery and post back to tell u what happened
