What is new in the world of the Kaiser?! - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

The money I was going to spend on the Tilt went to my beautiful new 22 inch LG Monitor (W2252TQ - 270 at Best Buy - best monitor out there.)
So I looked up some news on it the other day, since buying the phone is in my sights again, and I saw that all kinds of things have come out for it. So what do I have to know? What about the battery? Any new killer aps? Slingbox good with it? What about a wireless hard drive I have, think I could get my Tilt to access it? What about my wireless printer, hahaha ok that one won't happen.
And wireless internet is 20 dollars a month? Is it worth it? Can i get it cheaper somehow?

WinMo 6.1 Official with Graphic improvements (maybe drivers), this month..
Some great Cooked ROM's
Some beautyful software...
fixes...
Android..
... Android...
xD
things like that ..
not so much ...
grrr 22 inch sounds great for xbox360 xD!

Cheapest internet is 15 dollars w/o text package. That LG is NOT the best monitor out there benq fp241 ftw

I'd like to know where you guys get $15 and $20 Internet plans?
As far as I know, here in Chicago you have 2 choices:
$30 unlimited data
$50 unlimited data with tethering (or maybe it's $40).
I see in your sig you have AT&T too... do prices differ that much state to state?

You put your sim card in a non pda phone. Call AT&T, tell them you sold the tilt and sign up for the unlimited MediaNet @ 15.00. Put your sim back in the tilt.
your done.
look here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=388367
See here for a word of caution: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=391980

the prices are not different from state to state; its just that some people are getting data plans theyre not supposed to be getting. those $15 and $20 plans are for non-smartphone's (ie, those crappy flip samsungs, etc). many ppl use these plans on the tilt and other smart phones with no probs, but rumor has it that at&t does check and will charge you per kb of data that u used....its a risk, up to you if u wanna take it

The person referring to the $15 plan is on a Media Net unlimited plan.
That plan is meant for customers who have REGULAR phones such as the LG Shine or something.
The PDA Plans are $30 for unlimited.
There have been things all around the net that if at&t switches your plan back to what it was supposed to be, you get a rediculously high bill. But they may just be rumors.
Nonetheless it's kind of stealing b/c you're paying for the wrong plan.
The reason they charge more money for PDA data plans is because PDA's are MUCH more data intensive.
Anyway, my brother owns a couple Cell phone stores, and I've worked there for 5 years, so I know what I'm talking about.
The only way for you to have that $15 plan still is if
a) you got it more than a few months ago.
b) the person you bought your phone from stuck the IMEI of a regular phone onto your account as oppossed to your true PDA's IMEI. Doing that would cause the data plans that come up on the feature page during activation to be the $15 media net unlimited plan.
They changed their system so that the IMEI used for activation is what the features shown are based off of for the dealer's activation system.
c) do what the above poster mentioned by sticking your sim in a different phone claiming you are using that one now instead of your PDA.

I use multiple phones if they told me I had to purchase a new plan just because I own a Tilt I would cancel my contract unlock my phone and go to Tmobile and get it for $5.99.

Newegg's best reviewed LCD monitor has major defective problems. And most LCD monitors have terrible glare and fake refresh rates, fake 2 m/s, and a fake contrast ratio. It's all on a forum somewhere, I can get it if you want, but LG is definitely better. Plus it's Newegg review is pretty good.

ANYWAY, what about the other stuff in my original post? How are the roms coming? I was going to hold off on getting this because it uses Windows, but can we actually have Android on it? What are some good apps?

jeffla i answered your question through PM. feel free to contact me again if you are confused. I was assisted greatly with this issue and I should pass on what I know and learned so far.

iv used the tilt for about 1 week now... im not too impressed by it...
except the GPS is awesome. i got TomTom with it.
other than that... it seems alright. not as user friendly as many of the other phones.. u have to slide the keyboard just to type something, kind of annoying.
the touch screen needs a stylus most of the times.. thats something i dont really like too. u could use your fingers or nail but still.
overall not really impressed with the WM6.1 ppc edition... i like WM6 smartphone edition better. also battery life is kinda ****ty on this phone.
its a phone for gadget lover types... overall good value for money.

LOL I've had mine since october. You don't have to slide the keyboard out all the time and my stylus hardly gets uses. I can even use the onscreen keyboard sometimes with just my finger tip. Seriously, how can you be disapointed by having to use the keyboard? Didn't you even see the phone before you bought it.

This all are just a matter of customization.
I am using resco keyboard and I can easilly type with my fingers.
Also using UltimateLaunch witch is really finger-friendlly. And there are also hardware keys - u can install quick menu, amd u can make almost everything using the keys.
As I said, its all about your customization.

As im sitting in court, reading these posts, im just waiting for somone to say the six letter word (iphone)
1. of course the screen needs a stylus, its a resistive display, you can however adjust the threshold to make it more finger frendly.
2. it is user frendly (if you know what your doing)
3. dont base 6.1 these are cooked roms and there are a bunch to choose from, if you dont like the user friendliness the go with a no frills version.
4. i had a crapple junkphone and now that i have a tilt i cant imagine how i even got by with a poopyphone, sorry iphone
5. this phone has a slide out keyboard, were???
6. scratch #5 i was kidding, of course you have to slide out the keyborad to type, unless you know of a way to type on it without sliding it out??
Look in all seriousness the Full duplex pocket pc communication device, we call the kaiser, is a great phone, a power house i tell you, you cant really appreciate it unless you have it. and of course everybody can find something wrong with anything they own, like my brand new (well slightly used) 2007 slk 55 amg mercedes benz, a small scratch on the wheel. And by the way the benq monitor is better than the lg.
So buy the damn phone you will be happy with it.

I was very curious about it's ability to talk to an Iomega "Wireless Hard Drive" that I have. There is software that you install on the computer and it can detect the drive over Wifi. Do you think the phone can do such a thing? Same for my printer?
Anyone here use Slingbox with it? How are the new homebrew roms? Any in particular I should know about?
Is the battery life REALLY that bad?

well i like the keyboard, i just dont like sliding it.
i'd prefer the tmobile Dash , blackbeerry, moto Q, type where the keyboard is right there.
the thing with the sliding keyboard deal is, once u slide, the screen changes to landscape mode, and the resolution or something makes everything a bit unclear to read....
also another thing with this phone is, when i plug in my phone to the computer usb , the screen is always on, it doesnt turn off at all. iv changed the settings to turn off, and it doesnt.
also the keyboard mapping is a little messed up... when i select @, it gives me ! etc etc... as far as i understand this seems to be a common problem with the original dash... its amazing how HTC, and ATT released a phone with incorrect keyboard mappings.
i dont know if it is Dutty's 6.1 rom or is it affecting every ROM... these minor software issues are annoying... how could anyone not fix them before releasing them to the public. another bug i found is when u select the Missed Calls section and then u hit the End Call button, the whole screen gets messed up and u can only fix it by hard reboot.

1. (wireless hard drive) if it is bluetooth yes, you have a bluetooth explorer folder wich allows you to use it as a virtual drive. I have a old pc with a 80gig hd in it i use exclusive for this. All you need is a bluetooth dongle.
2. (slingbox) tried it on edge (sucks) if you use it on 3g (great)
3. (wifi printing) I bluetooth docs to my main pc then print. I.E. excell doc's and word doc's. Thats a good question i can pair to my wifi printer but wouldnt have a clue on how to print. I would really like to be able, but never really experemented with it. I can controll my pc from my tilt so in effect i can bluetooth docs to my main pc then my remote from my tilt print from my main pc. So i really dont have to touch my main pc. (if you catch my drift).
4. (battery life) I am a heavy user, and i mean heavy. Usually i get 2 1/2 days without having to charge.
5. (homebrew rom's) ive flashed a couple times. but im satisfied with my att stock munus bloatware rom(works good for me).

Well both the printer and the hard drive are over Wifi. Does Windows Mobile work well with Windows programs? I would just have to move the .exe's (and drivers for the printer) onto the phone, I guess. It would really save space on the SD Cards.

Tilt vs iPhone

I bought an iphone about 6 days ago and had nothing but 6 days worth of trouble with the phone. I only just got it working about 8 hours ago after 6 days of phone calls to at7t and apple. Each group whether it was the att store, apple store, att 800 techs or apple 800 techs would point to the other as the source of the problem and so on. What a joke. At any rate the phone is now working and I had a massive oh shiit moment just now. The iPhone does not support VOIP which is the primary reason why I started to look for smart phones. In all my confusion between the wing, the tilt and the iphone I somehow skipped over the fact that att doesnt offer voip. T-mobile does but it costs 20 dollars a month. If I take on a data plan its another 20 dollars a month. On top of that I have to get minutes but I'm affraid that even at the cheapest/lowest minutes plan, my final bill would be around 100 dollars for my phone alone. My wifes phone (non-data no wifi) would add another 50 dollars I'm sure.
The thing is, after all the newness wore off on the iphone and finally getting it working, I'm not all that impressed with it. It keeps switching off the wifi and going to EDGE which is way slower and there doesnt appear to be an easy way to switch it back. The latest firmwares for the iphone dont allow for third party applications which means I would have to pay through the nose to get apple authorized apps. I dont like the fact that you pretty much have to have an apple computer to do anything tricky with the phone. All the cool hacking tools and ring tone downloaders are built for use on apple computers. Windows for the iphone is an afterthought. On top off all of that, I am having to break my t-mobile contract. If I break it alone its 200 dollars but then my wife ends up with a large family plan thats twice more then she needs and yet the price stays the same. Our bill will pretty much double once the iphone bill starts to come in. If she changes her plan to a lower cost, she locks in another 2 year agreement with t-mobile. If we both break the contract its 400 bones and she isnt keen on that idea and wont do it. This leaves us to lie about us getting shipped off to IRAQ and hopefully we can get out of the contract for free. If not, then I may have to stay with t-mobile and ditch the iphone out of lack of options.
If I am able to ditch my t-mobile accounts then I have a choice to make. Do I stick with the iphone or go for the TILT? The Tilt looks like its just as powerfull if not more so then the iphone. The iphone storage might be more but I can get big memory cards for it. I really like the TILTS price, good through tomorrow. 250 to 300 depending on discounts which is the same as the iphone. I know I can do t-mobiles hot spot plan but maybe I can use other VOIP software for free? The iphone doesnt support flash so I cant run google talk and instead have to run meebo which although is nice, it isnt as nice as the full version. I hate having to leave the webpage up full time to run the program.
I like the Tilts windows os. It seems more open source to me then the iphone. So what phone would you go with given the choice?
Does the tilt support google talk? Iphone doest because it doesnt have support for java or flash. Does the tilt support flash and java applications?
In general, iPhone is good for its multimedia capabilities (music and video). On the other hand, if you seek for productivities and features, then you should go to Tilt I believe.
the tilt/kaiser/p4550/tytn ii has support for flash and java yes
i'm unfamiliar with the gtalk mobile application but i don't see any reason for it not to work as it supports other voip platforms
The Tilt simply needs another application to use google talk. I use either Palringo or Fring, both of which are free, and both will work with google talk, MSN Messenger, Yahoo messenger, etc.

Me and my wife bought new phones week ago - she got an iPhone I got Tilt:
If u r looking for something that seamlessly works out of the box and has no issues at all - then Iphone is clear choice. However all of us here know that if thing works flawlessly out of the box it is no fun .... I bought Tilt because GPS mostly - so far works like charm with TOMTOM 6. Considering that cheapest GPS navigator costs mere $200 and I got tilt with my company discount for $150 choice was clear for me. On the other hand iPhone looks and feels quite "feminine" (Just look at default wallpapers)
I thought long and hard about this choice and decided to take the iPhone back. It cost me a 10 percent restocking fee but i think in the end I will be happier with the tilt. I have had to call AT&T twice now since having the phone and everyone of the agents has said something like. "oh wow, nice phone. I really want one of those." So even At&t seems to think its pretty cool. Thanks for the advice.
One of my calls by the way was to see if they would give me the unlock code so that I could use it on T-mobile. They said no problem but it would take 5 to 7 days to get it since the phone was new and they didnt have it in their records yet. At any rate, they are going to email it to me so hopefully I can have it unlocked inside a week for free.
I've had about 5 hours with this phone now and for lack of better terminology I will just simply state that I have been half erect for the entire time. This phone rocks and so kicks the iphones ass. I've been able to get google talk going so I can chat with my wife at work, I have been able to make google talk calls using voip which is totally free (if you don't count the $50 fee for fios or the $80 voice and date charges for the phone, haha) and just now I have gotten the GPS going with google maps. I didn't even know it had GPS. I'm not a poster child for google or anything but their stuff works and it's all I know about right now. I'm sure I will find more apps eventually.
The thing I want to work on now is emulators and roms. I need to get some games going on here now.
For some reason the wifi was a tool in setting up. I couldn't understand why the applications wouldn't connect using wifi after I set the wifi connection up. I ended up having to tell the phone that my wifi was a work connection and then in the connection manager tell all applications to use my work isp. It was bizarre to say the least. I'm not sure how this is going to work though when I get on the road. Am I going to have to tell the phone that all wifi connections belong to my work isp? It seems odd to me that the connections manager wouldn't simply have an option to use wifi as the primary means of connecting to the internet and if thats not available then use G3 or whatever its called.
I'm much happier with this phone then I am with the iPhone. I'm just not into audio and video enough to think its a good phone. I already have a 60 gig ipod and although its nice to have in my car, I certainly dont live and breath all things apple, not by a long shot. Cool phone this Kaiser/Tilt to say the least.
If VoIP is what you are after, then I don't see how the Tilt will make it for you. In fact, as far as I know, all VoIP applications (including Fring, Skype and the WM6 VoIP client) are only able to transmit sound through the speakerphone, rather than the earpiece. Which is totally pointless to me! Isn't this your experience?
I have found that the only decent choice for VoIP usage are Nokia smartphones (E series phones), which have a great emebedded VoIP functionality that works with any SIP-based VoIP service, or they can work with Fring, and have access to SIP, Skype, Google Talk and MSN all at the same time, and all through the earpiece. And they can keep WiFi up and running for at least two days without discharging the battery. And will connect to 3G automatically when WiFi is not available any longer, and back. I have seen no Windows Mobile device being able to do these things, and this is why I am so struggling to go back to Windows Mobile after trying Symbian (Nokia).

If you google for a program called Octrotalk, install it, voila! Googletalk! Great program and it works well with every ROM that I've flashed.
about contracts
yeah the iphone isnt that great and if you wait a 3g iphone is coming, but on another note, DO NOT say you are being deported overseas, just have your wife call and say you died. or viseversa most of the time policy will ask for proof but if you put up a fight over it and the customer service rep has a heart they will cave in. its a pretty touchy subject that most people dont wanna walk around. worked for me more than once.

Still within my 30 Days....What should I do?

Should I return the TILT???
I was depending on this being an mp3 player/video player/phone/fun/office device. ALL IN ONE being key!!
This device has dissapointed me on the multimedia end for obvious reasons as I can't even drag and drop SD DIVX Shows!!
Is there a device that can do all this that I should get instead since I'm in my 30 days???? What would you do?
Thanks for any advice....

I am also in the same boat. I was expecting more from it when it came to playing movies and just overall performance. Don't know if I should return it to newegg and void the att contract. Or if it would be better to keep the contract, sell the phone on ebay, and use that money to buy a different phone.
return them
I would return them, and buy Iphones.
Iphones have by far the best web browsing available short of having a pc, which is what I was hoping for out of my tilt. Now that i know my web browsing issues are because htc didnt provide drivers, i feel like im missing a huge part of what this phone should have been and it is very disappointing.
Take It Back
return it...
RETURN IT
why? well the more HTC get returned etc the quicker they will pull their finger out and correct things and not allow such stupid mistakes
Just make damn sure that when you return it; you tell them WHY.
Hmm... The new 8gb Nokia N95 has just come out... Looks rather nice too...
All of you whom own a Tilt / Tytn II, T-mobile or other clone distributed by carriers should return this piece of ****ty hardware when not satisfied with the video performance.
Indeed, AT&T certainly would not have counted on such a return (and loss ) and will raise this towards HTC as loss of business.
Just return the ****ty thing and buy something that does what it's supposed to do.
And, for your own good, never buy anything coming from HTC. They're crooks, hypocrites and arrogant bastards who think that their customers are of a low enough IQ to be mocked in their face and still want to feed HTC money (this is exactly what comes out from their official response to the driver issue).

Yup. I bought my tilt last week so I still have two weeks to decide. I would return it today if i could figure out a replacement that does everything the Tilt does but better. I would personally rather have the Tilt than an Iphone even with the problems, and that nokia isn't doing it for me.
If you don't mind losing the internal GPS and the extra ram you could downgrade to the 8525 (Hermes). Nice thing is that there price has dropped considerably since the Tilt came out. For awhile there AT&T was selling them for $99...so you could probably find another site out there somewhere that would give it to you even better than this.
I'll trade someone my 8525 for their Kaiser
ha, I can't believe what im reading here! are u guys really that bitter. I honestly feel that even when (if) htc releases the fix, MOST of us will not notice a big difference in our daily use. I compare it to a bluetooth keyboard I purchased. before I bought it, I was going crazy, thinking I needed one, etc. once I got it, I don't think I've ever used it.
don't get me wrong, I would love the drivers, but other than that I love my phone. great internet, great gps, full keyboard, etc. there is honestly no other phone id rather have.
My Warranty ends tomorrow. I think im just going to keep the damn thing. Sure the video converting sucks. but, I got the Camera to work (thanks to Navadi), and I havnt watched a movie on my mobile in awhile. At least the reception is flawless. I have better reception than most of my friends and family. with the same provider, AT&T.
In my house NO ONE gets reception. and I can have a full conversation inside my house perfectly.
My brother who owns the Iphone. He has to walk outside in order to talk on his phone.
Oh and yeah the full keyboard is much better than the Iphone at Texting.
Oh and dont get me wrong I am disappointed with HTC with the way they are handling this situation. Atleast be helpful, rather than leaving us with a "F**k you, we got your money, you got what you paid for." what they did was false advertise.
The problem is, in the U.S. The phone is still better than majority of all the other phones out there. OBviously not in Europe. but here. Yeah.
I've had both the iPhone (Returned it) and now I have the TILT...i prefer the tilt.
I know the video situation sucks but I think the phone is still good overall

Hey guys. I'm really interested in this phone, but I have questions.

1. My contract expires in May. What are the odds by then the phone isn't crippled?
2. Even crippled, is the phone worth having? Are there better phones out there?
3. If I buy this phone through AT&T on an existing plan, how much trouble am I in if I flash it?
4. Since I am going to flash it, what are some good programs for it? Does the Slingbox's Slingplayer work well with it? What about games and stuff. Movie-viewing? Music playing? There's a billion conflicting reports. I'm planning on getting this phone, so I want to do it right.
5. Programs like AIM, do they really use texts and not Wifi, or is that only if you use the built-in texting version of AIM?
I have more but thats plenty for now. Thank you to anyone who opens this!
Nice try - April 1!
No bite here.

1. 50/50 as always
2. but of course
3. if you return it with a rom flashed on there the warranty is void (I think)
4. not sure about slingbox, I think it should work but don't have it. I don't think anyone has ever said movies and music don't work on the phone, so I don't know about these conflicting reports.
5. depends on the IM client you use.
All these things can be searched if you need more info.

1. I'd say 99% its not crippled.
2. No, not in the Windows department anyways. You can get a Nokia N96 sans Windows or an HTC X7501 but its huge cuz of its 5" screen.
3. No trouble.
4. Everything seems to run fine on mine.
5. If you get the hacked AIM 2.0, no charges for texts. Otherwise, you will be charged.
So you guys are giving me pretty good reviews on this phone. Where's a good place to look for software?
Also, when I say "crippled" I am talking about the graphics driver not being on it. And when I talk about things like movies, I mean I've heard they run slowly and look bad because of the graphics driver not being used.
Anything else you guys can tell me? I mean I want to be sold on this phone... I want backup on it hahaha.
For example, is it really 30 dollars a month for unlimited data access? Cause I kinda want to use Google Map's + GPS, but not pay or be near a hotspot. How is it with detecting hotspots?
ok don't listen to the driver bull**** man. The videos play fine. I watch movies on my phone with no problem. I stream my movies from my home pc through orb.com and the quality is perfect. I never get that lip-sync effect. Seriously people need to stop *****ing about video drivers already. Like I previosly stated unless you expect to watch live video feeds from Mars then you can complain. Most of the video lag issues can be soloved by going into the settings and tweaking them. (TCPMP player settings) I personally never had to do that. This phone is the best phone I've ever had and I've been in the phone game for a minute. As for your other question. If you want to find the most up to date software, this is the place. THey even have the files so you can download them directly on your omputer withougt having to go through a millions sites. Hope this helps.
How is your laptop with detecting hotspots? Same thing for the TILT. You can install a program called WiFiFoFum on your TILT when you get it. It sniffs out hotspots and tells your if they are secure or not. You can pay 19.99 unlimited internet on your phone. Add the feature through the website when you log into your acct. When you get the phone tell them YOU DO NOT WANT A DATA PLAN! I stress this because reps at the store will add unneccesary things you may not need. Like telenav promotion, mobitv promotion, push to talk promotion, etc. Make sure they show you a detail of whats on your account so they don't jerk you over. I personally never done it but working at a store I've seen everyone do it just to get that extra commission. You will love the phone I promise.
If your primary usage for a phone is as a multimedia device, then get an iPhone. The Tilt is absolute **** at playing movies and there is no miracle "fix" in sight.
The one benefit to owning an HTC product is this board. Aside from a handful of apologists who insist that their Kaisers/Tilts are perfect in every way, there are a ton of knowledgeable, helpful people who do some really cool stuff.

You can't fool me sir. I have seen the iPhone. I've used the iPhone. It's not good. It's a great novelty item, but for everyday use I can't imagine it being anything serviceable. I didn't have to go beyond typing on both to realize the iPhone and I would never get along. Plus I like surfing the real internet.
ANYWAY:
1. So I plan on flashing the ROM immediately. If something bad happens to the phone (Someone on this board is complaining about his battery and said it was the third time he had to return it), what do I do to cover this fact up? How do I protect my 250 investment?
2. I don't plan on adding those insane plans, and I am definitely not using TelNav or Push to Talk. 20 dollars unlimited internet sounds about 120 better than what I thought it was (30 dollars a month) and I think I might have to take them up on that eventually.
So this is the place to be, thats good I found it then. What are some other programs I can load on this phone? I mean I want it pimped out.
A. Micro-HDSD card for added room - necessary? (Those Micro Cards are so tiny. I have a 2 Gig Micro-SD Card atm.)
B. If I put a widescreen movie on the phone, would it display 16:9? What programs do I use to play movies and media and stuff?
C. How good is Opera Mobile? Worth going from the free Opera Mini up to it? (Unless there is... cough... another way.)
D. Touch screen on this phone - multi touch? Is it awesome? Is the screen good for watching stuff and all?
E. You use outlook for mail on this thing? Is it better to just use GMail? Is there a program that will notify you of mail on the front screen, like it does with outlook? That front screen notification area is awesome by the way.
F. Speaker on the phone - how is it? It's only mono? Is it worth investing in bluetooth headphones/stereo headset?
Thats enough for right now. I have a lot of questions and I am really glad I found this site - I've been in love with this phone for months and I'm getting close to my contract expiring. AND it just dropped in price by 50 bucks, online at least.
1. You are taking your chances - you cannot 'cover this fact up'. Read the battery threads - some have problems others do not - you will find out what yours does and work with it.
2. while you do NOT want a tethering plan you DO want the unlimited data plan.
3. What do you use to play GAMES? Honestly man - games play when you load them and run them.
4. You will have IE on your phone - if that is not good enough for you then load free opera and if you don't like it better then unload it.
5. is touch screen awesome - do you want a cheerleading section? It works and works well - yes you can actually look at things on it.
6. outlook works well and so does your internet mail - they are not mutually exclusive.
7. Speaker phone - is it MONO? Come on MAN!!! There is ONE SPEAKER and it is a tweater 3/8's of an inch big - no you get full surround sound on it. SHEESH!
8. Honestly - you need sto start reading - there is a wealth of information here and you need to start doing some work yourself.

I don't understand all the complaints. My Tilt plays movies just fine
1. I know there's an unbricker but Im not sure if it always works.
A. yes
B. yes. use TCPMP 0.81
C. Opera Mini > Opera Mobile
D. no multi-touch but the screen is good, hard to scratch, and easy to use
E. I use Pocket Outlook to manage two email accounts and yes there are onscreen notifications
F. Speaker is mono, yes. i use wired headphones, I dont trust BlueTooth stuff to work right ever on anything.
Hidavi you seem to love your phone just as much as I do. First off to the previous poster you are a jackass if you think the Iphone is a good phone.
Tilt has 3g internet, the REVOLUTIONARY iPHONE is running on EDGE..
Who wants to type an email by touching the screen. Most of us are ANAL when it comes to someone touching our screen.
iPhone just added EXCHANGE EMAIL support.
What company in their right mind would choose to give their employees Iphones over Blackberries... ummmm hmmmm NONE!
unless they come out with an Iphone that can read my thoughts and transcribe them in an email I won't get one.
Imagine how long it will take to write an email for a dude like me with Man hands. Enough Said
I'd like some more responses, if you guys don't mind.
I do love my phone. It owns the **** out of IPhones. My phone gets more attention then those do surprisingly. people like the tiltness and the chrome and stuff.
Is the Tilt known for being prone to breaking or something similar? Or is it a sturdy device? I plan on modding it on day 1, and I'd like some assurance it's not going to turn into a 300 dollar paperweight.
not really i've been modding it since day one...nothing wrong...dropped a few times and once on hard times...still nothing...no scratches or anything not sqeaking or sounds still really sturdy...but make sure when u mod read ALL the wiki's before doing so
Oh when I mod this thing, I will be glued to this board mashing the F5 key.
I mean I'm just going to put the Kaiser bios on it, and then put on Quake II and watch Lord of the Rings on it. Nothing special.
What should I turn the PTT button into?
By the way, as far as buying one of these goes for an existing plan - how do I do that the cheapest way possible? 300 dollars is not too appealing.

Is it worth it? FLV tweaking + other, or Return?

Hi, I am very new to the cellphone/ smartphone modding scene. My friend recently decided to buy a new phone so we had been looking for a good phone for him and me, so he decided either tilt or iphone. I personally think the iphone is neat, but the lack of 3rd party programs w/o jailbreak, and no keyboard (i must have a full qwerty keyboard) is a huge turn off. We both have att, so he went to the store one day and came back with the 16g iphone. He took it back the next day... so he traded it for the tilt. Well I played around with it and I bought mine the next day (this is like 4 days ago). Since then I have done quite a few things... such as find out that there is NO drivers for the gfx card... apparently none of the reviews actually came out and stated that... "sluggish at times" is not "NO VIDEO DRIVERS!!". I have also flashed about 15 times or so, tried all sorts of cabs and whatnot. Right now I am running the L26 Diamondv3 rom. Anyways since i know we don't have drivers we must make do with what we have. But if I am going to be paying an extra 30 a month for unlimited data, i might as well use it. I know that i won't be able to play any games other than very very simple 2d games. But I was hoping i would be able to at least watch youtube videos. Well, watch videos where i can actually see what is happening (not the low quality mobile youtube with horrible sound). I have tried flashvideobundle with the tcmp w/e it is plugin. It worked alright but not as well as I had hoped. I have also looked into coreplayer, but 1.) not freeware 2.) apparently dTV doesn't work anymore so you have to use DirectDraw which tears.
My dad has an iphone and i can compare his quality using edge to mine using hsdpa... of course the tilt loses...
Ok. Now onto the point. Since there isn't really any other nice phones out there (that i know of, please correct me if i'm wrong) that have a large qwerty keyboard, not one that my thumb presses 4 buttons at once.. I think I will have to stick with the tilt. But if I am, i want to be able to use $30 a month in internet. I am using opera mobile beta for my browser, but i'd also like to watch decent quality vids. So...
Does anyone know anything that I might have missed in my digging around. Any tweaks for coreplayer that you might have found that i could look into purchasing it. Or maybe something to do with flashvideobundle.
Another thing is, is that i paid $400 for this phone... and a two year contract. So... I really need this phone to work, very well.. even if it doesn't have drivers.
This brings me to the second part of my post. Since I have spent $450 w/ tax... Should i keep this phone, maybe hope HTC makes drivers/ gets sued / whatever (which probably wont happen)... Or should I take it back and invest in a different phone? My old phone is an lg Chocolate KG800 (not american version) It just has a numberpad. My phone before that was a bb with full qwerty keyboard which i fell in love with. Does anyone know a phone that my suffice either until something else comes out, (which i would need around a $100-150 ish phone) or something that i could just go ahead and buy, and be happy with. Two phones I saw earlier was the Black Jack II and the BB Curve These would probably work until something really nice comes out
I know this is an HTC site and the Kaiser subsection, but from what I read not very many people are happy with HTC... So if you could please give me an unbiased opinion on my situation i would greatly appreciate it.
Thanx , Especially to those who cooked all sorts of goodies for me to play with these past few days
I bought this phone thinking i would use gps, but i barely do!
point is, really really think about what u will actually use, vs what would be nice to have.
The tilt/kaiser will surpass, but even though its subpar at playing videos/games its still solid device.
I would love to play a game seamlessly, but then again, the only game id play is like bejeweled at the toilet. And kaiser/tilt plays it seamlessly too! FYI, With coreplayer, videos will play smoothly, and its currently being updated with flash support.(There talking to adobe and all that stuff, check out corecodec.com forums!)
A good phone w/ a slide out qwerty wont be out for a few months, and if ur planning on getting a deal with a carrier u can add a year to that.
So, if it was me and
-I want to get a good deal with a carrier
-I thought real hard and found out i really dont play doom on my phone that much.
Id get the kaiser
otherwise, if
-I have about a grand to spend on a phone
I would wait a couple months and purchase a nextgen phone.
Sony Xperia sounds nice!
Oh yeah, dont be a hater of htc because they messed up. They already do more than what other companies will do for their customers.(Offer a free Wm6.1 update, etc) To bad people dont realize that. Alot of people here expect to be spoonfed by a company thats not obligated too.
On, The GPS issue , i thought it would be nice, but I got a gps a few weeks ago so i haven't really used it. I am a college student so I need some sort of quick on the fly , yet simple note taking. So I was thinking the tilt would work. and for the most part it does. But anyways, Actually the original phone i was going to get would have been the xperia, then i saw the tilt. since they are both made by HTC I figured that it'd be probably the same device... but now i know it probably has drivers.
And I guess HTC has done some good for their customers, but what kind of company releases a $400 smartphone without drivers?...

Holy crap! One of the reasons I'm not too upset about the driver issue is because I paid ~175 for this phone. I dont know man. If you ask me, if you going to dish out that much, you might as well wait and see what HTC Diamond has to offer once/if it comes out in the US. I haven't been following the Diamond too well so I'm not even sure. Dont get me wrong, this phone is really good. When it comes to functionality and availability of support (XDA) and apps (XDA again), its really the way to go. GPS, 3g, qwerty, a dozen chefs making dozens of ROMs, a dev community taking the best of other devices to work with Tilts, and so on. These are the reasons I havent sold this phone. I say do more research and look into phones that are coming up, so I say wait. If you can find a tilt for cheaper than 450, maybe in the 200 range, then keep it, but 450....? Damn. If it helps, I got mine at BestBuy with a contract...good luck
Thats my 2¢.
the money is ome of my biggest concerns... if it did onlycost only a hundred or a a little more.. then it would be like thats sucks.. oh well... but since i dont curently have a job at the moment (this is usibg half of my graduation money) so i really dont have the money to blow awa. my friend got a 100 percebt refund so i can to. but the internet feature is really nice. in my opinion not as good for normal browsing as the iphone, but i dont think it is worthpaying 450 plus the extra 30 for something that is mediocre..
(this was typed on a tilt on my way to clas... the text was really lagy on the input, but that could be the browser)

Have you tried youtubeplay and opera mini?

Which phone should I get?

So, long story short, ATT screwed me over with my Fuze. I got a call from a VERY high up person from ATT, and they offered me any phone I want.
I had some problems with the Fuze: Lag, bad battery, touch screen issues, build quality issues... etc. I also hated how I always had to keep on looking for new radios, testing them, testing new ROMs. Don't get me wrong, I love to customize my phone, but it was a little over the top and a little ridiculous.
I was thinking about getting the Bold. I love the screen, I love the keyboard, never used the trackball before, and never used the BB OS. How's battery life and performance on it? I'll be using it mostly for texting, calling, and some word documents.
The iPhone is out of the question.
Thanks for the help!
Maybe get a fuze that works properly? I really have no suggestions other than that.
The best phone to get would obviously be the Fuze. However, if you want some money, then i suggest you get an iPhone (16gb), sell it on eBay and then you'll have a lot cash to buy a new phone (and even have some left over).
Good to know iphoney is out of the question!
If looking for something not too expensive I would recommend Universal because it´s great keyboard and screen!
If $ is not a problem check Touch Pro 2 or Diamond 2
Good luck,

Goes to show that WinMo is not for the weak, the noob, and the ones who don't have time. Get a Blackjack or something. that would suit you.
Btw, I think by any phone, the guy would've probably meant that any phone from at&t and I still find your story highly unlikely cause normal people do not get calls from anyone "VERY" high so to say even if you've been a customer of AT&T since it began. I highly doubt it. But sure, I suggest only 3 phones for you. BB Bold, BB Curve, Samsung BlackJack.
If you like HTC & WM, then go for Touch Pro 2 or Diamond 2.

AT&T is not selling those phones yet.
and yeah, that story is unlikely, not saying you made it up, but the person was probably a tech support supervisor, or manager.
get the iphone. if the X1 is sold through AT&T(which i dont think it is) then get that, other then that, if you dont like to customize your phone, dont get a HTC, get a LG incite or something of that nature.
the person who called me was the Vice-President of Customer Support, I found her email adress on AT&T's website and sent her an email. Got a call 3 days later I can post the link if you guys don't believe me
I do like tinkering with my phone, but only to an extent. I need a long battery for everyday trips, and I need a phone with great signal strength.
I have been with AT&T for 8 years, landline and cellular service. And my Dad's side of the line holds the entire companies phone systems, and theres around 1500 phones. AT&T would not want to lose business
Alright, so a little update, and this was great.....
I get....
A brand new Blackberry Bold
I get to keep my Fuze
And I get 200 dollars in credit
Sell the blackberry,
get a new Fuze thats not defective
Send me the credit for my bills!
