Finger Friendly Texting? - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

Hello
does anyone know of a cab (preferably free) that I can add so when I text someone from my contact list or just text in general, there is a more finger friendly keyboard that comes up? It sucks having to use a stylus all the time if I want to use the touch screen.
or better yet, has anyone heard of a speech recognition software that lets you speak your message and have it converted to text?
Thanks
Adam

The Diamond Keyboard is quite nice, has 2 QWERTY's and a regular numeric keypad.

lol, so true, cant get any easier.

Wow...as helpful as the last few posts were...
It sounds almost as if the OP wants a one-handed keyboard.
The Diamond keyboard is pretty nice, but my personal favorite is TouchPal.
http://www.cootek.com/
QWERTY and extended keyboard formats are included and it has a great amount of options and error correction. It even allows you to adjust the size on the screen.

Resco
Resco has a nice keyboard that is easy to use if you select the iphone keyboard. It's the easiest I have found anyway.

2 Skins for the PocketCM Keyboard with multilanguage layouts

I have made 1 new and thats the Carribean sea skin with both an qwerty and azerty multilanguage layout. The other skin i have edited the Iphone skin 2manyphones made (His orginal post) a little so it fits my layouts. I think he has done som great work on that skin . Iphone also got qwerty and azerty layouts.
For more info, pictures and downloading you can see on these two links.
Carribean sea skin
Iphone skin
At this there is no VGA skin of them. But i'm thinking of make them. I dont have any VGA phone so can be a little hard to test them so if some one could help me with that i would thankful for that
Seems like the multilanguage layout works out great for me. If there is any letters or symbols you miss tell me. Also write the symbol/letter both in caps and lower since it would be easyer for me to add them.
This is the letter associations these layouts have now:
aåáàäãą¥,eæéèêëę,iíîï,oøóôöõ,uúùüû,cçć,sšß,zžżź,yý,nñ,lł
Correct me if some of the symbols are on the wrong place. Symbol pads are added for every letter.
Hope you like them and would like to hear what you think about the color scheme on the Carribean sea skin.

I have uploaded the skins now. But you could download them the forum i linked to
You did a great job, especially with the heaps of symbol pads hidden everywhere. What I don't like is the very small "shift" key, since we germans need it quite often. Is there a way, to make it bigger?

Hey good you liked it . Could you tell me what skin you are using and maybe how mutch bigger you think the shift button should be. Cause have to make some other button smaller if the shift button should be bigger. So have to look at it.

Well, I'm using the really nice iphonegrey skin. I'd like to have the shift key about as big as the backspace or return keys. I could best live with a smaller return key, since I really don't use this one very often. So maybe the return key would be the right button to shrink a little in size. Keep up the good work!
Here is the English version with a bigger shift key. I didn't mess too much with the shift and symb screens, but it should be a little better.
Keep in mind you need to use both the skin AND the layout file for this to display right.
Tweak as you like!
Can this be used for VGA Devices?

Nice skin, but I have three questions:
1. Can you make a blue version (like the real iphone) using this new layout (Gray 3.5)?
2. Can you make a backspace a little bigger (version 3.5)?
3. There is a bug in "return" button. If you press and hold for 250ms, one menu it's appears (option - cut - copy - paste), but with your skin, you will see just a black "button".
Thanks a lot and as always, sorry my bad english..
Really like this app. Using Ialu layout ... with some modifications and replacing the graphics, here's what I have.
BTW, how can I use a different png graphics for shift/backspace/space/return when the key is pressed?

2. Try his original layout. The bigger shift key and smaller backspace were requested by me.
BTW thanks Ialu. I like the bigger shift key now.

Hi 2manyphones, would it be possible to move the backspace key(x) away from the right, it is a bit hard to get to it. This is only in lowercase letters, it uppercase letters it is correct. Otherwise loving this layout, much easier to type.
I also have the blank buttons when holding the Return button, until you slide over the buttons.
hope more themes for POCKETCM keyboard

You need to select both the skin file and the correct layout file for it to display correctly. From your screen shot it is clear the wrong layout file is selected. Sometimes you also need to do a soft reboot to get it to change.
I added = and + to the English layout 2.1 with number keys along the top of the symbol pad.
Use this layout file with the iPhone 3.3 skin.
layout file...
I love the gray Iphone skin. I have used it for a while now. I got it from tene pocketcm site. I was using underwatertub's iphone + smilies but the keys on this one are way larger.
Would it be possible to add a layout to the english edition so that when a user presses and holds the "." key a row pops up giving the options of punctuation? For example ?!,()etc and maybe a few smilies? Underwatertub did it on his and man it works great!!!
Also, on the "," could have a pop up on a press and hold function, that had a numeric row.
Only ideas, the skin is awesome!!!!
Curious George
Just noticed that holding down the ".?123" button does do some of this.
Another idea: What about predifined text with a press and hold on "Return"...ie Running late. yes. no. call me....etc

Thanks. I'm glad you like the skin. You can change what characters display on each page in the layout file. It can be opened and edited in wordpad. Just make sure you don't add or delete any spaces, so the skin still displays correctly. As for holding the return key to get quick replies, that is a good idea, but to my knowledge the return key pop up is set to options, cut, copy and paste. Meaning I don't think it can't be customized at this point. I made this skin primarily for my own use, so fogive me if my response to requests is not as fast as underwaterdub or others who have posted their own skins. I will keep making tweaks, taking into account forum feedback and personal usage and posting when I can.

Big Dialer Buttons?

I'm looking for larger dialpad buttons? I've seen a lot of crap all over the place which is more of a piece together and there is always SOMEONE posting with bad news... such as "can't uninstall it" or "smart dial doesn't work" etc...
Is there a fully functioning (even if I have to pay money) keypad (dial screen buttons) with big buttons on it?
Thanks in advance!
try netcom smart dialer 2.5 - not free
There is another called reTOUCHed_Dialer2. This has much bigger buttons and easier than the built-in layout.
I am hoping somebody will have one with a different skin, though. The straight black keys are not my thing.

The reTOUCHed Dialer can be "skinned" (and I've seen a few). If you look at Dutty's planned no. 7 rom that dialer will be in it, and it will have blue/green buttons. I think Schaps' has it with purple.
Basically the dialer mainly consists of graphics for the backgrounds and buttons. You just need to edit all of them in an grapics program and you can modify it to how you want it.
Here's the cab for the standard Touch looking one.

Looking for List of Keyboard Apps

Anyone know of a list of available keyboard apps? Haven't been able to find much on the forum.
Thanks and sorry for the noob question.
Here's a few I can really recommend...
1. Touchpal: http://www.cootek.com/intro.aspx
2. Resco Keyboard Pro: http://www.resco.net/pocketpc/keyboard/
3. PocketCM Keyboard: http://www.pocketcm.com/keyboard2.php
Hopefully people can add more to the list but these 3 are my favorites... Touchpal is the best imo and it's the one I use the most...
I'm really starting to like PocketCM Keyboard. It's quick and unobtrusive and has pretty good spelling correction.
What about Phone-pad T9 keyboards? Touchpal is seriously lacking when it comes to the phonepad layout; its so fiddly and buttons are way too small still. All my HTC SIPs are broken since installing the Softbank Keytouch (Japanese) SIP, and i am desparate to find another T9 solution.
Every T9 keyboard i have seen tries to fit too many buttons on the screen, and the space is always an afterthought (tiny little button next to something else). On a regular phone you ONLY need 12 keys to provide text input, maybe 13 to allow you to change input modes. The Keytouch layout is perfect, 12 biiig buttons and 4 tiny buttons down the side for options; but it doesnt have T9 predictive text
Anyone know decent options?
Finger Keyboard works wondefully, see this link, http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=163013&d=1236103349 or search here in xda.
thanks
Here are my findings (keep in mind this is just MY opinion)
- I'm using a HTC Touch Diamond
- I'm using the default orientation, NO LANDSCAPE
Rankings (best to worst):
---------
Touchpal
- largest learning curve
- FASTEST for typing (I'm using the 20 key layout)
- most features (smileys, arrows, macros for web, etc)
- full version costs 12$ (a little steap) but might be worth it, great product
2.) PocketCM and Finger Keyboard TIE
- both are great for FULL qwerty but can't match the speed of touchpal
- had to find skins for both to increase the button size to make it easier to type FAST with thumb(s).
Didn't try the Resco Keyboard Pro
Thanks for the links guys!

HELLO
I am not a devolper and mostly a free user, BUT IVE MANAGED TO get japanese input/output with iphone skin keyboard (without the gestures and loss of t9 and suggested words).
I use a wwe wm6 rom on a HTC TOUCH DIAMOND *s21ht emobile* I didnt necessairly change the regional setting, i used resco file explorer and registry editor. I DONT USE touchflo but spb mobile shell 3.5
IT ONLY WORKED FOR ME AFTER I RESTORED MY DIAMOND TO FACTORY SETTINGS. if you have any other keyboard, resco, spb keyboard, letsjapanno6, im sure it wont work as well, or wont work at all.

**for those unaware of happy tapping keyboard, it has an ime button which enables the device to switch from jap to eng. NO Need for ctrl shift, shift ctrl or having to deal with small ms keyboard or other keyboards that dont work appropiatetly with japanese input.
** The ugly side: The loss of t9 function and suggested words, requires more space on your device

I would like to thank flinx1 for the ime and sip name fix and A_C for his happytapping keyboard post.

Question concerning the HTC TD2 keyboard

Hey folks,
I'm very, very new to installing new software on my HTC TD2, but I've been browsing a bit around on the web. Looking for a keyboard that actually works with my fingers. I really dislike those QWERTY keyboards, I simply want a 0-9 keyboard with buttons filling up like 50%+ of the screen, like some samsungs have! I just wanna be able to type while I'm walking and such, not always having to depend on my stylus,
I hope you people get what I mean and that someone could help me out
yfrog.com/efnaamloosqp
I crappy image which I've made with paint + touchpad, so don't mind the quality. Just to give an example
Thanks in advance people!
When typing, press the little arrow next to the keyboard icon at the bottom of your screen. Press phonepad
Hi!
Is it possible to install and use the original WM6.5 keyboard and input methods in conjunction with the EzInput 2.1 keyboards from HTC? Now the SIP selector only shows the HTC keyboards.
BTW: I'm using a cooked 6.5 (21891) ROM with manila 2.5.20113626.

PK

Figured that one out already, but there are many 'useless' buttons like the: ' | " | and others which fill up way to much of the screen, I'm really looking for something that just mainly shows numbers in a size that makes it very easy to click them!
Just make the link as I posted it in my first post, as I made a little image to show what I mean ^^

[Q] Smaller onscreen keyboard?

Hi all,
I'd like to get an smaller onscreen keyboard that doesn't take up half of the screen. This would allow me see more at a glance. Currently I hide/unhide the keyboard when I want to see more, but that is annoying because half the time when you unhide the keyboard, it covers up the part of the document you want to edit.
I've found SlideIT keyboard which lets you resize the keyboard, which is pretty cool.
It has a Swype like function as well as normal tap. The swype like functions works pretty well, but it doesn't seem as good as Swype in terms of picking the correct word. I think this is partially an accuracy thing (you have to be more accurate with SlideIt) and also there are quite a few common words that haven't been in the dictionary (but I've been adding them as they occur, so this should reduce over time).
Does anyone know of any other keyboards that aren't as big as the stock keyboard?
I'm in the 15 day trial of Slide IT, so if I don't find another, I'll probably end up getting this one.
thanks,
Rich
Thumb keyboard lets you alter the height and width, but no swype function. I've been using TK for almost 2 years. Developer is very responsive.

Thanks guys very helpful. Neither of those keyboards say that you can resize them in their market descriptions, which is why I didn't try them before.
I liked Swiftkey the best out of the 2. The word prediction is pretty amazing in Swiftkey. I could be incredibly sloppy with my typing and it still picked the right word most of the time.
It does require thumb typing to be fast though, and I realised that most of the time I hold my phone cradled in one hand and then use the other to swype or tap out words with 1 or 2 fingers or the SPen.
I like the word prediction of Swiftkey, but the input method and smaller keyboard size of SlideIT... I'll keep trying both of those for a bit longer before deciding...
Cheers,
Rich
Smart Keyboard is also an option. You can customize it in various ways. Among others you have the possibility to adapt the size of the keys and therefore the entire keyboard.
Sent from my rooted Galaxy Note using XDA Premium App
Thanks. I like that you can get Smart Keyboard to take up less screen space than Swiftkey.
But I think I like the word prediction on Swift Key better.
And I still think swiping is quicker for me, although the SlideIT keyboard is not as good as the Samsung Swype for word prediction and being lenient on how accurate your swipe path needs to be.
