How to replace the Digitizer/Touch Panel? any body? - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV General

I have looked everywhere but no luck! Can someone please give clear instruction how to replace the digitizer/touch panel?
I have only found instructions how to disassemble the diamond up to the LCD stage only! But after that it does not show how to take the LCD out of the housing to expose the Digitizer.
Hope someone knows how to do it.
Thanks.

The instructions you looked at, where they from the Service Manual or another source?

one from the service manual at XDA-WiKi page and other post from http://www.pdacenter.ru/razborka/razbor-htc-touch-diamond
but both goes up to the same stage and stop.

Yeh I've got the same service manual and it doesn't really go into any detail about how to replace the digitizer. Maybe there's another 'level' of the Service Manual for that. Only question is, where does one obtain it? Good luck replacing it - how come you're replacing it btw? Your touch screen not responding?

Digitizers (touch screen) usually are not being replaced at all. The LCD screen (with digitizer) is the one block. And it is being changed completely in service centers.
But: If you can find just digitizer, then you may cut off with office knife the digitizer from the lcd-screen itself (on borders only, do not cut your screen) and then place the new digitizer on the screen firmly (it will stick to it on borders).
I've done it with my treo 750 yesterday.

Thanks for your input. Digitizers for Diamond are available for sale separately.
just to make sure i got this right, if it is only fixed on LCD by sticking to it without any screws can i pry it out from the front side without disassembling the diamond?

Scratched screen
Ok, So I finnaly scratched the screen. Quite badly, must add !!
I was wondering the costs to replace the screen. Do I need a whole case / digitizer or lcd ?
Also what would the costs be roughly, as I am unable to contact my local repair shop....

digitizer arround 29 USD + shipping.
not sure if LCD is available yet.
if you scratched the screen you will only need to replace the digitizer which is the actual screen you press on.
the only thing is no clear instruction how to replace it!

Without disassembling - no, for sure.
And seeing the video - I would not suggest you to, it's quite hard, cuz it's all packed very tight.
I heard that there's glass in front of screen on diamond that sends the pressures to the real touch screen. But that maybe not true. I guess you'll have to disassemble the diamond to see what the touchscreen is on it.
Or you shoudl find the video, where you can clearly see if the touch diamond' screen have any protective glass..

Kortez,
thanks for your help, do you have link to the said video?
thanks

can't remember where I've seen. But it exists.

We need the instruction on the replacement step, not the part.

I've just replaced the digitizer now on my Diamond...having issues getting it back together though, will go into it in a minute.
Originally I ordered only a digitizer, then dismantled the phone and hit a brick wall when I tried getting the screen from the metal fascia, the adesive is really strong, I actually ended up cracking the screen under the digitizer and so ended up having to buy a screen with a digitizer for £10 more - to be honest I recommend this is what you do - if you order just a digitizer then you have to mess about soldering the cable onto the cable of the screen (as well as getting the broken digitizer off the screen and probably cracking it in the process)
Anyway, my new one came today, managed to put it onto the fascia fine and have started putting the thing back together, but I cant connect the 2 cables to the mainboard part! cos for a start theyre underneath and not long at all! anyone have any ideas?

I thought the digitizer cable can be just slot into the connector type, no? Did your digitizer come with soft ply tools? which to help on plying out the screen and digitizer i heard. I'm gathering info before placing my purchase on the digitizer... Coz its badly scratches, felt and kicked!

No unfortunately not - you have to solder it on theres some contacts for it.
I managed to get all mine back together you just have to take your time and be really careful - it works perfectly now. I'm really chuffed as its a really good spare to have
If I was you i'd order a screan and a digiziser together cause then it will just be a case of pulling the screen off the adesive on the fascia (it's stuck really well you might even crack your broken one like I did) and then stick the replacement on and reassemble!

Hi, could anyone of you make some pictures or a small video about how to get the display out of the body, or where exactly i need to pull the display out.
i have already dismantled my diamond, but still didnt get the display and digitizer out. When i pulled the display i think i broke it somehow, because now my display shows me only stripes...
anyway, my ordered display still didnt arrive....
if you could make a vid or some pictures, it would be very helpful.

how was the soldering part? difficult? as i heard it might melt the plastic cable, no?
If i do cracked the existing digitizer, no harm i see since its already borken though.

Well, i managed to get the lcd and tocuh sceen apart, and now am stuck with the soldering part either.
the sceen has to be pushed out from the inside....the glue they used is pretty strong. and the display breaks pretty fast....
isnt there a way to connect the lcd and ts without soldering?

Tocuh screen doesn't work

First of all, HI to every one, this forum is excellent and u are doing excellent job.
I have one problem, yesturday my htc tytn Ii felt down from half meter and from that time my touch screen is not working . screen is working fine but touch no ...what can i do? to open a case and see if conector is maybe disconected or ? is there need buying new lcd screen?
You can try opening it up and disconnect/reconnect the touch digitizer ribbon cable, if that doesn't work buy a new touch screen digitizer. They're fairly cheap.
so correct me if i'm wrong, there are two parts on the display? lcd screen and that touch screen digitizer??and digitizer is on top?
Yes, there's the LCD screen, then on top the digitizer.
the digitizer costs about 15 bux on ebay, and the lcd with the digitizer costs about 50. my touchscreen stopped responding awhile back, so i had to replace it. word of advice though. the digitizer is kinda build into the lcd, and it is a huge pain (atleast 4 me) to replace it. i ended up cracking my screen doing it, and had to but the whole lcd.
so your suggesting to buy entire lcd screen with digitizer on it?
You can get the lcd+ digitizer from yallstore for 35$ http://www.yallstore.com/htc-tilt-tytn-ii-att-8925-lcd-touch-screen-replacementt56-p-874.html
Which is exactly what i ordered on thursday after my screen cracked.
Replacing JUST the digitizer is quite tricky, i don't know if any of you guys have done it (i have) and it was pretty darn tricky if youve never taken fiddley things apart beware! the digitizer glass is glued on (around the edges) to the LCD, a sharp knife around the edge (the glass WILL crack) and a careful replacedment (i had to solder the ribbon cable on) should help there is a guide somewhere where someone has documented their attempt!
so can i be sure that my problem will be solved with new lcd screen?
please guys i need anwsers fast

Can you be certain this will fix it? No. It's about 99% likely, however. I don't know about you, but I pay alot more than $35/month just for my service. I haven't done the screen on my Kaiser, but I did on my Excalibur, which my son then inherited. To be honest, the Kaiser looks easier from what I've read.
it most probably isn't a software problem, so yes buy a new LCD+digitizer and replace both.

Replace Digitizer only?

My touch screen stopped working on my phone, but the screen is still visible. I'm assuming it's the digitizer. I was wondering if anybody has done or tried replacing only the digitizer. Does this work, is it better just to replace both? Any suggestions? Thanks.
Save yourself the headache
Just replace the complete screen unit (lcd + digitizer).
The digitizer is held on the screen with some super strong adhesive that is nearly impossible to get off cleanly. Also, there are three (4?) thin ribbon tabs that have to be soldered to the board on the rear of the lcd. Unless you are really confident with a soldering iron, it is extremely hard to do.
I replaced my screen unit in about a half hour. Make sure you go to the wiki and find one of the excellent disassembly guides before you start.
Thanks
Thanks, that's exactly the information i needed to know. I found the fon logix video. Is it only a t6 tool i need, or do i also need a t5. I have seen conflicting info on this? Thanks again.
I got my scren unit from ebay, and it included a torx driver and a plastic case tool. I honestly can't remember what size came in the kit, because I used my own torx set. Im pretty sure its just the one size, though.
Good luck!
You might find this information interesting.

Disregard ............
i always replace only the touch screen. okay i've done it aprox 30 times. But i never broke one.
if you decide to replace only the touchscreen, there are 2 types. thus check which on you have, and i found out that sometimes reassamble, and cleaning can help.
good luck.
torx is 5 and 6, 6 for opening the back of the phone, 5 for the screen part removal of the body and opening it. you need an opening tool!!
adhesive
is there a terrible adhesive between the screen and digitizer, as the second poster mentioned? how difficult is it to deal with?
just cut away with snapoff knives. It wil break in more pieses. (the glas that is) just be carefull, and take your time
Thanks
Thanks for all of the info, i went ahead and purchased the screen with the digitizer and tools. One thing i have noticed though is the d-pad has stopped working also, i'm using a custom rom so i'm not sure if it's just that or it's something else. i will prob re-image after i replace screen.

Well, guess I was a smarty pants and bought my stuff before consulting XDA...as such, I ONLY bought the touchscreen rather than the entire new unit. Cheaper, yes, but I had no idea about the adhesive until just now. My only question is, once I remove the old screen from the LCD with a razor blade, how do I affix the new one?
Anyone?
i would love to know this too because i have to also replace my digitizer!

I used rtv gasket maker the transparent blue one worked well.
you can find it in automotive section. Actually any silcone will work.
also can use double sided tape but needs to be very thin
I've already changing my digitizer, but it doesn't seem to work. So I've change the whole part. cost me $20 more on ebay.
my advice is to change the whole package with the lcd too.

Damaged Digitizer or LCD Screen? Help please :(

Hi,
Last night I knocked a small table and my girlfriends phone and a remote for the TV fell off.
We noticed that her phone now has a ring of black dots on the screen, mostly visible with a white background (E.G websites) but also from the home screen and the like.
We think she's cancelled her phone insurance, as she's never had a payment out to the company.
Can anyone tell me if its a Digitizer (What is one of these? Is it just the touch screen sensitive part of the phone?) Or the actual LCD Screen itself?
If you click on the photo it will load a larger image
Thanks for any assistance, kinda annoyed about this and wondering if I can repair myself with the parts on ebay. Or does anyone know how much HTC Charge to repair similar? Either in $USD, £GBP or €Eur, I can convert and get a ball park figure.
Hi
First of all is the phone still in warranty? If so take it back to an HTC dealer they should repair it for you for free. TD2 screens are not very good and it's a common fault. ( i had to have mine repaired after just only 3 weeks! )
The TD2 screen is made out of 2 parts, The touch screen or the 'digitizer' as you call it and a normal LCD screen underneath. You need to establish which has gone faulty.
If the touch screen still operates normally i.e the screen does not lock up or freeze and allows you to navigate normally then its the lcd screen below. If the touch screen is faulty one good way of checking is to put a piece of tape over the damaged area and try to lift it up a little to see if the marks / dots disappear and functionality can temporarily be restored.
Its hard to tell from your picture which it is..... sorry
I'm not sure how much a replacement by a dealer would cost, but i'm sure you can replace either yourself. ebay is a good place to look
Hope this helps.
I've had a reply from HTC UK who said the following:
That looks like there are a bunch of very small cracks in the screen. the black stuff is likely the Liquid Crystal from inside the display that has leaked out. If the dots get larger then it would definitely seem that the screen has got some cracks in it.
if this is the case, the standard charge for replacing the LCD is around £180 as sadly it is all one complete unit on the diamond 2, so it is not just the LCD underneath that needs to be replaced, but the whole screen assembly including the touchscreen layer and the actual LCD.
I hope this information helps you to make up your mind.
best regards,
Pete W

Hi mate,
had the same problem...
the item you psetd from ebay is not the one you need to change.
you need a digitizer, not an lcd screen.
i got one from ebay (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItemVersion&item=290376721935&view=all&tid=393718237019), it includes both the lcd and the digitizer, you can check ebay to find other auctions offering the digitizer only.
you can change the digitizer on your own if you don't mind loosing the waranty of your phone.
cheers
Hi,
I had already found this: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Touch-Screen-...UK_Mobiles_Accessories_RL?hash=item5882e7ef74
Will buy in a bit, funds are a bit short today.
The Touch Screen's functionality hasn't changed at all though, no sticking buttons or anything. So I suspect that its the LCD Screen thats damaged but will follow you're advise as you're going to have more experiance than me (and its the cheaper part to begin with!)
Scrap the above post.. my g/f has just told me that the dots on her phone are bigger/worse. Looks like its the LCD Screen afterall
i still believe it is not the LCD.
the digitizer is actually sitted on a glass, and the LCD is below that. it is very difficult to harm the LCD. i also though it was the LCD (at least i wasn't sure which was broken) so i ordered both of them.
if you disasseble the phone you will be sure if it is the LCD or not.
i vote for the digitizer
good luck, if you need any help, i'll be pleased to help you..
Just to update, A few days after I posted and got helpful advice on here.. she called me up to say the dots have disappeared, and they have still gone now a few days after.
She said she put it in the office where she works, under a printer paper tray, and the office was warm. Something has (maybe only temporarily) fixed it.
I´m having the same exact problem my nephew dropped my phone, i already dissemble it because i was not sure of the lcd type, but when i looked at the digitizer i didn´t see any dots, so i´m not sure what to repair, TS or Digitizer, i allready tried with the tape to pull the digitizer, when it was apart i couldn´t see anything on the lcd no marks at all, opinions please.

Well F**K me! just bought a second hand diamond 2 to replace my xperia...
...seemed to work great checking it out... went home with the phone in my pocket... and as soon as I turn it on the touch screen doesn't work
dissected the whole phone only to discover the digitizer is glued to the bezel!
I ordered this from Ebay, will update if I got it working with the brand new housing + digitizer: http://cgi.ebay.it/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=380166349182&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT

If you can make some photos of the digitizer and the lcd dissasembled maybe, but It seems unlikely to break the lcd when you didn't completely trashed your digitizer.

Also the LCD didn´t had any marks at all, but i´m going to buy the TS+LCD and replaced by parts first the lcd because it´s a lot easier to replace then if the problem persists the TS.
I will post the result later when i get the parts to replace.

Can anyone confirm the above link as being both Lcd and Digitizer? I'm sure it doesn't mention it in the listing but the picture looks like it's showing both connectors.
Most likely only the LCD that's my conclusion if you look at the sellers store.
But to be sure e-mail the seller and ask.
http://stores.shop.ebay.co.uk/Elect...QQ_sidZ195653022?_nkw=diamond+2&submit=Search
Soooooo, as I've already posted here, My digitizer was busted on the phone I just bought... what I didn't tell was that I ordered a digitizer, then checked if I could remove it easily...came to the conclusion that I couldn't... and ordered a digitizer+housing so I could easily fit it on.
the mail brought me the digitizer today, and while knowing a better solution was on it's way I couldn't resist and try if I could make it work.
Turns out it super easy to seperate the digitizer from the bezel using a hairdryer (softening the glue) and a knife:
Take your phone apart, just the 4 screws, click the plastic center off it. Remove the digitizer cable, the touchscreen cable and the speaker cable.
now you are able to remove the green plate which holds all chips and stuff.
underneath that is the screen, lift it up gently going under it from the gap the removal of volume buttons leaves, put it away safely.
Now remove the speaker, the buttons under the zoom bar, and the power button(don't forget the the power button, and rubbery thingy that falls out of the bottom, the hole needs to be at the bottom when putting it back in).
your phone should be completely empty by now... just the front and the digitize glued together.
make the front of the phone reaaaaaaaaaallllly hot, put the knive between the metal and the digitizer (I started at the part where the zoombar is) and gently push it between the two parts... (from the inside of the phone to the oudside). Now just keep the whole thing above the dryer to keep it warm and slowly slice your way around the phone (no secret wires are there that you can cut through).
I used some random glue I had lying around to glue the front back to the new digitizer... perfect!
so the screen is like new now
ps bought this digitizer: http://cgi.ebay.nl/Touch-Screen-Dig...wItemQQptZPDA_Accessories?hash=item45eed6effc
Thanks for that jodeltje.
It sounds exactly the same as when i replaced the digitizer on an Omnia. Really not as hard as one might imagine. Taking your time and being careful are the most important things.
Hey guys,
I came into same boat last night.
Dropped my T-Mobile MDA Compact V from 2.5ft table, Backwards (Not towards LCD) and now it has black dots on screen. I guess the LCD has pressed backwards by chip sets.
Here is a screenshot.
I think its LCD damaged but I don't have cash to replace nor device warranty.
Do you think the problem solves eventually? Coz once I had dropped sony mobile and it too had same issue but solved after many days.
Hopefully it solves.
BTW; does LCD affixed to Digitizer? by seeing service manual, it doesn't look like it is. And I afraid to get cheap hongkong LCD screens for about 30$ since they won't be true quality display. i.e blueish.
Thanks...
Best Regards
hello CRACING,
sorry about what happened to you...
from the picture i can say that you have a problem with the digitizer...
your LCD is ok.
i tend to have this problem over and over again the last 1,5 years... i replace the digitizer (or the glass on which the digitizer is attached to) every 3-4 months..
yes the ones you get from ebay are not that good quiality, but well it keeps the phone working...
if you need assistance on replacing the digitizer, i can help you, by providing pictures and istructions...

[URGENTLY] How to replace digitizer on lcd

hi, i have my phone opened, and i dont know how to replace digitizer on my LCD screen which i take from phone
Please Urgently.. Thx. Mike
P.S. Must i open LCD scr.?
I'd advise replacing the whole screen as digitizer is glued to screen, there is guides to how to replace the screen which can be found via search one of them is very easy as just remove the four screws from behind the screen.
Good luck
If your only replacing the digitizer, which isn't easy I have done a few.
You will need to carefully remove old digitizer, I heat up the digitizer where it's glued and remove it, it will come off in pieces (glass).
then clean residue glue off lcd frame.
then glue the new digitzer.
last part is soldering the connector on the digitzer to the connector on the lcd it's not easy, it can be done with solder iron but I use a rework station makes it 100 times easier.
good luck
now it isnt urgently.. on night i closed phone.. but it is strange.. my slide effect is strange.. whn i put phone on table, so UP part (LCD,action buttons) is little moved right than DOWN part.. for ex. i think this slide after closing has opposite direction !BUT ONLY LITTLE (1mm)!
thanks for advice..
and i think this thread can could be good tread for everyone who dont know what to do with LCD. As me
I would also advise to replace the entire screen. They are easily sourced from a well known auction site and most will supply the opening tools and a screen protector.
A simple web search will find the service manual to open your pda. There are tuts for replacing the screen by removing the 4 screws behind the screen and pulling the housing apart to slide the screen out. Bewarned that if you are too forceful you will damage the mic and other parts that are still screwed to the board.
I bought two Xda stellars some time back. Both needed a lil TLC. One a scratched screen the other the housing was badly scuffed. Having repaired a few PDAs, I thought I would ask an independant store to see what they would charge (labour only as i would supply parts). He quoted £20 for each phone, have a look at the service manual see the steps to take it apart and reassemble ask yourself for the sake of £20 is it worth the aggro.
Good luck with your replacement, I hope this helps and any others who encounter similar issues.

Simple answer, No !
ok, on kaiser i can use only kaiser LCD? (no vogue,no tytn 1.....)
Correct, the Kaiser motherboard is ONLY compatible with the type of screen it originally came with.
I heard the t-mobile wing digitizer would work on the tilt.
I have not try it, maybe on next one needs new digitizer.
My son has just broke the screen on his tytn2, reading through there seems to be the screen itself and the digitiser behind, if I order both of these, are they a simple fit, someone referred to soldering, I do not want to go down that route................
Just found how to video on you tube, looks fiddly, but I will give it a go.

Replacing broken screen/digitizer

Guys,
I broke my screen, the LCD is good but the digitizer doesn't work. Aparently, this phone works differently from olders phones in which you can replace only the digitizer, but not this one since are fused together.
My question are:
Where can I buy one that WILL work? (i bought one in ebay and was faulty)
Will any LG G2 screen fit the VS980 (D805, D802, etc)?
Any help will be appreciated.
thanks!

If you haven't already got one, you can get it at repairsuniverse - http://www.repairsuniverse.com/lg-g2-lcd-touch-screen-digitizer-replacement-black-verizon.html
The repair is a little delicate in that you have to completely disassemble the phone and pry the screen out. You don't need a proper heat gun, a hair dryer will work just fine. One problem to be aware of: the screen really needs to fit flush against things otherwise the proximity sensor (top left of screen) will think that something is near it all the time and will make the screen turn off and you'll struggle to get it on again. They supply you with double-sided tape and it sorta-kinda works if you're careful. Pro tip: don't do what I did and unseat the newly-installed screen without heating it - you'll damage the screen. Also, superglue seems to do bad things to the screen. I now have a fully functioning digitizer with a screen that looks like hell. YMMV.
I am also in the same boat, having dropped it this past weekend. LCD works, not digitizer.
Any thoughts on replacing just the digitizer/glass vs. getting the whole assembly with the LCD? Seems significantly more dificult, considering the heat gun/glue assembly and only about a $30 difference between the two methods based on ebay prices.

Any suggestions on getting this LCD vs. one from ebay that is also pre-attached to the frame and comes with tools? They seem identical otherwise.
Hi,
I have some experience since I replaced twice mine lol xD
There're no good quality screens (they are all copies, no OEM screens) and all 3 that I got from 3 differentes vendors suffers from yellowish spot on the lower left corner (its not my phone that has an issue, one screen actually was a phone that I bought on ebay and had the screen replaced and still suffered from that) and others from misalignment. Here's a pic that I had to send to an ebay seller to prove them that their screens were ****:

And got the money back at least.
The digitizer and the lcd are fused, so if you try with digitizer/glass and screen apart, you'll have to buy optical glue in order to fuse them, if not you'll end up with two things glued together that looks awful.
If you go with the whole assembly, its luck to have one that works, so you'll have to be patient and asume that you may receive an awful screen. Luckly, ebay protect you, so if you're not in a hurry you can test until you grab the working one.
Any question if I can help, just le met know.
