Alternate home screen clock applet / theme - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III Themes and Apps

I've just been looking at a Wikipedia article on Windows Mobile, and saw the following screen shot of a 'standard' windows mobile 6.1. Does anyone know where to find this theme/applet/plugin or whatever it is - I really like the look of it.

Thanks.

why yes, on any non-touch screen WM 6.x device... in other words, a smartphone, not a Pocket PC. In a way, you answered yourself: this is WM Standard, and Kaiser is WM Professional.

Ah, that explains it then. It's a shame it's not also available on touch screen devices, as I think it looks really clean - nicer than the usual HTC Home app I think. I've tried other home screen clocks and styles, but havent found one yet that I really like (other than this one unfortunately...!!)
Thanks anyway

I use SPB Mobile Shell as it looks slightly more usable than HTC Home which was not bundled with phone initially.

I use SPB mobile shell too,it´s more better than HTC home. And for big clock on today I´m using Pocket digital clock.

HTC home or SPB mobile shell?

Hi all, i wanna ask if i should install mobile shell onto my kaiser? really luv the page of mobile shell but heard it drain out the battery and slow down the ram...is that true?
i want something to display my battery % without clicking in as well a clena calender on interface...pls let me know which software provide it.
thks alot!
p.s. the Kaiser really smooth runnign so far + the radio rom really much improved comapre to my previous Trinty.
Yes it's true!
From my experiences, everything you've heard about the SPB shell and other apps (Diary, Weather, etc.) do in fact drain the battery! There is also a noticeable slowdown in performance with these running.
With these installed and enabled on my Task Window, I go from 100% charge down to 60% in about 3 hours. I was obviously tethered to a power plug or car adapter.
I've opted to go with the native HTC Home plugin and will work this weekend to customize the weather, the CUBE, icons, and all the other goodies.

I am in the same boat as you and I was just debating myself on the same thing.......
I had used many SPB software and had SPB MS/Backup/PhoneSuite on my P3600i prior to the Kaiser. But HTC Home gave me substantially similar functionality (except for SBP Backup which I installed on my Kaiser), I am very hesitant in installing SPB software if they are not needed, especially when the Kaiser is so stable without MS/PhoneSuite.......
I use HTC home plugin and the battery life is good.
For battery indicator, I suggest "batti"
http://pda.jasnapaka.com/batti/
It is very light, very small, works well, customizeable
For calendar, you may look Calendar+ or TodayAgenda.
Btw, do you use SPB GPRS Monitor as well?
I am considering of using it, but thinking of memory drain.
hey all,
thks for all da infos~~~i think i will keep my HTC instead. Since it's really smooth runnin dun wanna slow down by any softwares.
Kaiser is soooo much improved on speed .......previous i hv problem with mapking R12 (the speed , the reaction.....just so dead slow) now really kickin off!
i m luvin it!~~
ps. For the Batti software....seems it's similar to the preinstall one...anyone?
No, it is not the same
Batti gives you "line" indicator at the very top of your sceen.

but i got the line indicator now as well.....hmm.......
I immediately switched back to Mobile Shell. Don't get me wrong; the default design of WM6 is fine but the clock is way to large and some tabs really bug me (like quick-choice for the sound profiles).
My phones need to have a clean interface so now I'm only running the default install of Mobile Shell, Owner and Calendar. Loads of room on screen to spare for new/cool apps.
SPB Shell is the way for me.
My experience is that with HTC Home plug-in battery drained faster than with SBP Shell. I also find Shell easier to use with fingers. An more configurable.
I have cLaunch with large iPhone icones attached to one of the Shell's tabs - works very nice.
Quick question for you Mobile Shell user
I like the PHOTO tab in the HTC Home where you can put 9 pictures for speed dial.
And I saw SpB shell can have that too.
But from the screenshot in the website, it displays about 5 pictures ...
Actually, how much can you have with Mobile Shell?
Thanks

Yea...I didn't find this to be true at all in my case. The native HTC plugins don't drain my battery at all.
I've now removed all SPB apps and am running just the HTC Home plugin. I now got the CUBE to animate so I'm really excited! I'll work on more CUBE and Home plugin customizations.

I love SPB Mobile Shell, I was using it with my original TyTN. However, for some reason, it kept freezing my TyTN II device whenever I key locked it. I also noticed my device was sluggish with it. I am NOT a fan of the HTC Shell one bit. It takes up the whole screen. So, now I use iLauncher for my shortcuts to programs or as my shortcut phone calls to contacts.
I hope SPB Mobile Shell comes out with a new release which corrects many of these issues.

I cant seem to get it to install. Are you using HTC Home - stock, out of the box? I have Home Customizer on mine and keep getting the black screen.
Thanks.

Use Batti for Battery Display ALL THE WAY! (Since Blue Angel...)
I got my TyTN(Hell it is hard to type it right) yesterday and i find the HTC Home application very neat. Compared to SPB Shell, I think i will use the HTC Home and forget about installing the resource exhaustive SPB applications(not too bad but still)
SPB Shell needs some refining before i will consider it again.
I used Mobile shell on my 8125. Loved it. but i find that everything i used it for is now built in to my TyTN II. Weather, photo speed dial, program shortcuts, time, phone ringer settings switching.. There is no need for the now screen with the HTC home plugin.. I did use spb menu but now that my new device actually has a start menu button this really isn't needed any more either. So i saved myself a ton of ram and skipped on Mobile shell.
I did install diary though. It is still the best calendar today plugin for me. I disabled all the tabs except the calendar tab and have it setting just bellow HTC home.. works well. And you know what? it is actaully very fast and doesn't use very much ram if you disable all the tabs

If you read the thing it says
The built in plug-in names are:
1) CClock – The big clock
2) CAppointments - The calendar plugin
3) CHome – The notifications plugin
4) CMyPhotos – The photos plugin
5) CMessage – The message center (this is off by default on all sliding panel built in layouts.
6) CMusic – The music plugin
7) Settings – The settings plug-in
8) Custom Plugins – Users can specify custom plug-ins with static content that can be displayed on the home screen.
Just search and download those plugins and you can get it

Your Kaiser is running WM6.1 Professional.
What you see there is WM6.1 Standard (non-touchscreen)

He should still be able to run the plugins though . Just obviously no touchscreen support.
@ OP here is a good place to find them
So are there any ROMS that use the new interface?

No. As stated above, this interface is for Windows Mobile 6.1 Standard, for non-touchscreen smartphones only. Since you would only see a pretty picture with no touch response, cooks will not bother to include it in their ROMs (not a bad thing).
Ah I see, I read that backward in my head. Damn dyslexia!
That interface would be very nice if it was finger friendly
I have tried throttle launcher and pointui, both of which were lacking. Does anyone know of other UIs?

There's a difference between Home plugins and Today plugins.
Frankly, I'm a little disappointed with WM6.1 Pro. WM6.1 Std is the best thing since sliced bread. Totally revitalises the crippled smartphone interface.
What did 6.1 do for Pro?
Yea I agree. 6.1 Pro looks and acts much the same as 6.0. After seeing all the screenshots and videos of 6.1 Standard that my expectations were relatively high for Pro. To make matter worse my brother-in-law just showed off his iPhone 3G today. Its interface is so much smoother and user friendly than what I can get for my Tilt. I guess MS still thinks a stylus is better than a finger; I disagree.
Oh well, I guess we can't have our cake and eat it too!

I think I'd rather have a useful, goodlooking today screen that I use with the hardware buttons than a bunch of plugins that dont really do exactly what you want them to anyways. Dont you think so? I'm starting to get fed up with HTC Home...

I already gave up on HTC Home. I haven't even installed it on the last 5+ flashes. I agree with the sentiment in several other threads that Microsoft really screwed-the-pooch on 6.1 Professional with regards to interface upgrades (read: none), but I also wouldn't want my Today screen to be filled up with icons I cannot tap for a response.

What other today screen have you been using? I tried HTC, Winterface, Point UI( both version). I was thinking about the Touch Xperience(?).

I don't use anything. Just the default WM Home Screen.

Alternative OS Frontends

Can anyone point me to other frontents for Windows Mobile like for example
http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/products/mobileshel
PointUI Home was another one that I tried on my previous WinMob phone, it's very responsive and smooth but it's not the most attractive front end in the world. Also, not being able to see the clock and upcoming appointments at the same time got right on my tits. To be honest I've yet to come across a front end with a Today style screen that shows everything the default WinMob one does (i.e. date/time, tasks, appointments and count of unread emails/messages) which annoys the hell out of me, I don't understand how these various companies have spent time writing front ends intended to replace WinMob yet can't give us a Today screen that even has the functionality of the default one. Is it really that hard to do?
thanks, i tried and installes 1.51a of it, but nothing happens, still standard winmob frontend... how must i intall it properly?

If it's installed properly you should now have an entry for it in your Programs list, you can just launch it from there like any other application and I think it then remains resident.
On a related note I found this Wizbar app that seems to allow the customisation of WinMob though I haven't tried this one out. There are some themes for it here.
I'm very happy with SPB software though obviously it's quite expensive to buy. I think it has a free trial.
SPB pocket plus is a genius bit of software because it allows you to quickly select from up to 7 today screens each containing various today plugins and shortcuts. You get up to 6 tabs plus your regular today screen (when the tabs are set to auto-hide).
Other today plugins I'm using are Pocket Player, DevState 1.5 (as a task manager) and SPB Time, Diary, Weather and Mobile Suite (another great program). (Not cheap )
Here are some screens - the photo is a holiday shot from Turkey:
there is also vito winterface which is iphone clone...quite nice but nothing new. i still with manila

Today plugin for messaging/email/calls which isn't HTCHome

I want to get rid of the HTCHome today plugin simply because the clock is too big and takes up too much room.
I am using PDC for the clock and want to find a messaging/email/calls plugin replacement.
I've trawled these forums and searched 'til I'm blue in the face.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Try SPB Mobile Shell (latest version). See www.spbsoftwarehouse.com and install the OMNIA add-on and OMNIA Windows Mobile theme.
See post below:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=424479
You want be dissapointed. A good, simple en very functional replacement of HTC Home.
Succes!
Thanks. I've already looked at Mobile Shell though and that again has a clock that takes up too much of the screen.
What I'm looking for is basically a one line plugin (like the bottom row of HTC Home) that displays messaging/email/calls.
check out phoneAlarm http://www.pocketmax.net/phoneAlarm.html i'm using the phatfinger skin.
think this may be what your looking for.
i've tried other today screen plugins/apps but keep coming back to this
what else are you trying to fit on the screen that you are worried about the clock being big?

SPB Mobile Shell 3.5

hey all
is there a solution yet to get this as a working panel? I dont want it over my today screen. I rather have it replace the free mobile shell that comes as a panel. Any ideas if and how this can be done?
thanks
theres a spb mobile shell 3.5 panel on this forum.... few pages back somewhere. i think its the korean one but its in english..
*edit actually i just had a look and think its 3.01 not 3.5
theres a program called panellizer. its meant to be able to turn anythin into a panel..
http://xperiancer.blogspot.com/
if you can get hold of mobileshell 3.5 then you might be able to turn it into a panel using that
any news here? Because I'd like to have MS 3.5.2 as a panel. Well, I have a look if I can do it!
hey yep, I know about the Korean thingy but thats as you said only for the older version. I tried using the panellizer but had no luck with it. I think the problem is that the new mobile shell gives u the option to switch back to your home screen which kind of means that it needs to be over the windows screen.
If somebody could figure out a way to use one of the xperia panels and put spb mobile shell over it, that could work. But just guessing here, so far, the few things I tried didnt work so I m back to using the regular 3.0 version which can be used as a panel.
I will try my luck with the panelizer. I just like the new SPB MS so much better than the old one. What do you mean with using the se panel and put spb ms over it? I do know whats the se panel but I don't know how I possibly put ms over it..
Btw. there is this thing called switcher. What about that one? I will post a link later.
panellizer seems much more complicated than i expected. i think we're going to have to hope they release 3.5.2 as a panel.
