I'm using Outlook 2007 on my desktop with 3 POP email accounts, calendar, tasks, etc.
Is there a fairly simple way to sync and push email to my Tilt without having exchange server available ?

Direct push is for exchange 2003 & 2007 only, it has nothing to do with the outlook client. Why don't you setup the pop3 on your phone? On my phone I have 1 exchange account, and 2 pop3 accounts, and it works great.
You could always try Emoze - http://www.emoze.com/ - some people love it, some people hate it. Not tried it myself.
Other options include using Live Mail - which supports push in WM6, or setting up a Mail2Web account. You could then create a rule in Outlook to forward any received mail to your new address. You might be able to configure Live Mail to pull from other Pop3 mailboxes (I know Gmail does this, but I don't know about Live Mail). That way all three Pop accounts end up in your Live Mail bucket, and you sync just that one account with your phone.

I could do that, but then I'd have to manually check for mail.
It would just be nice to have blackberry-like mail arrival.

you can tell the phone to check every 5 mins for emails? that's just as regular as blackberry. battery sapping tho. its in the advanced section of the messaging setup. you can do it on symbian nokias too.

I like the concept of XpressMail (using SMS notification, therefore good for battery life), though I've had little luck getting push to work. It rarely, if ever, worked on my MPX220. I eventually accepted the fact that I'd simply have to do a send/receive when I was interested in seeing if there was new mail. Now that I have the Tilt, I'm having the same reliability issues. It HAS worked... I've had a couple messages show up all on their own, but for the most part, they don't. I've gone into the online configuration @ https://xpressmail.cingular.com/, and found that I had not only one, but two devices set up (my MPX220 set up twice). I deleted both of those, but for some reason can't seem to get the Tilt added. I can go through the process, but once I select it, it just never gets added to the list. The list of emails online is correct, so obviously the xpress mail app is properly getting the emails from my mail provider (comcast), but it's either not sending out the SMS messages, or they aren't being interpreted correctly by the phone.
I had a situation where i needed to syn with 2 exchange servers, and i didnt' want to run a desktop app.
Google for "seven beta" and get the OWA Out of office. You can set it up to sync only email and it works like push off of the OWA of exchange. If you don't have exchange they have a desktop version. Seven is the same people who develop the xpress mail for cingular.

I have a Kaiser and I want to setup it up to receive my office email on it. Only problem is that my company didn't buy microsoft license for an exchange server, which means I cannot setup my phone with exchange server to receive emails automatically,
Is there any other service which will let me push emails from outlook to the phone through internet?
Please suggest if there is a way to receive emails on phone without the exchange server?

Not sure, All I have is the outlook setup for office emails on my laptop, and I only get emails if I'm connected to the office intranet or log in through the VPN on outside network,What can I use to get the outlook emails on the phone (either directly or through push services)

For push/pull you (your company) needs to install the services from microsoft.
Can you ask if they have any external services installed? Keep in mind VPN is like if you are in the inside network, just through a secure channel through the internet.
I didn't read yet but if you look in the forums "General" section or use <search> you'll find tons of things regarding VPN access using WM5/6 or WM6.1
IF your company has SMTP (Simple Mail Transport Protocol) services installed you may be able to access company email like you receive gmail or yahoo (though I doubt that they have it installed).

Is it true that when we send or receive a POP message on our PDA that there's no way we can synchronize that message back to Outlook on the desktop?

I don't think that's true. I haven't used Outlook/Pop Mail since my Dell Axim Days, but to worked then.
What's true is POP is a one shot deal. If you download the message from your email server using POP to your Mobile, you can't download it from your email server to your Desktop Outlook.
Yes, I understand that with POP, you have the option of either keeping the messages on the server, or having them deleted after download.
Here's a scenario. This is what I'd like to happen. Please let me know if it's possible with a standard POP/SMTP server (NOT an Exchange server, and IMAP isn't an option for me at this time).
1) I synchronize my device with my pc and emails are updated to their respective folders on the PDA while physically connected to my desktop. I then disconnect and leave my office.
2) While on the road, I download an email to the device using one of my POP accounts via either 3G or WiFi. I respond to that message and send it back. Now, I have one new message in the In Box on the PDA, and a response in my Sent Items folder on the PDA.
3) When I return home, I want both those new messages - one in the In Box and on in the Sent Items folder to be synchronized back from the PDA to the desktop.
I've been told it's not possible. Can someone confirm, and if it's true, please explain to me (in layman's terms) how messages manage to go into the machine, but messages downloaded using the PDA just don't want to come out?

AFAIK, it is not possible in the way you want to do it. Out the box WM will only do this with Exchange Server email. You have to go with a third party service like Xpress Fail that pushes email off your desktop Outlook to your phone.
Maybe someone could suggest a service that actually works, because Xpress Fail sucked for me.
You have probably been told this, but I set up Outlook on the desktop to leave an email on the server for 10 days. This way the phone and desktop get the same email. But thats as good as it gets with a POP account.
One more thing, the "Outlook" account you see on the phone is used for Exchange Server email. You can select it to sync with your desktop, but all it does is load up the email from your desktop.

Incredible. I'm speechless. So, the phone really is like the D-Con roach motel.
I'm incredulous that we have a system that gets Email from the desktop to the machine, and a machine that can send and receive emails while away from the desktop, but can't manage to get the messages back to the desktop when you return.
I just fail to understand how something seemingly so simple can be so complex. After all, POP email is just more or less a text file.
Ok, I've been thinking about this.
Of all the Email addresses I have, the majority of them are in my control. There is only one email address (att.net) that I have no control over and offers only POP.
If I migrate my domains from GoDaddy (which does NOT offer IMAP) to another IHV, can I have my att.net POP email automatically forwarded to a 'ghost' IMAP account at a new host, and accomplish what I want?
I still get back to being amazed that Microsoft hasn't had the forethought to supporting synchronization of POP messages from the phone back to desktop Outook. How F'n stupid is that???

I think in Windows Pocket PC 2003 it did sync with POP. But the Windows Mobile Line assumes everyone is using exchange servers. Microsoft makes a lot of assumptions like that.
To answer your question, You will get two benefits out of your solution.
1: You will be able to use IMAP.
2: You won't be using GoDaddy anymore.

I'm currently in quite a similar situation - I use Outlook 2007 on my desktop to download ALL my email, 95% of which comes from my Yahoo account. As it stands right now, I POP download my emails to my Outlook (Yahoo doesnt support desktop IMAP unless you pay), and I IMAP it to my Tilt (Yahoo does, however, support IMAP to mobiles, i guess? ). Currently I'll BCC a copy of any email I send to myself, and then once it's POPed back to Outlook, I just move it to the Sent Mail. It's a hassle but it's the best I can do.
The one annoyance is that if you don't close Outlook before leaving home, the POP automatically marks the messages as "read" once downloaded, and so when the Tilt IMAPs them in, they're already marked as read and so I don't get notified.
If you figure anything out (that doesn't require access to my own server!) please let us know lol

LOL! Yeah, I'm thinkin' yer on to somethin' there. Looking at Dreamhost as an IHV. At least they support full shell access for more than one administrator so I can separate my domains that are serviced by another party.
Ok, but here's a problem. With IMAP, do I have a local copy on my machine, or must everything be stored on the server?

I prefer DreamHost myself.
In IMAP they are stored on the server, but most desktop email client give you the option to save a local copy. As to how, it depends on the client though.

Ok, so bear with me, because I'm still getting my head around how this all works.
Let's say I migrate my hosting and set up IMAP accounts for my various email addresses. Then I set both the PDA and my Desktop respectively to download and delete messages from the server. Will messages sent and received on the PDA (therefore stored on the phone) be replicated to the desktop using ActiveSync when I reconnect for a synchronization? Or will I find myself back with the same situation I have with POP where ActiveSynch won't 'see' the PDA's IMAP folders and refuse to copy messages to my Desktop Outlook?
Basically an IMAP server the Email stays on the server. Then with your desktop of PDA downloads the message it is a "Shadow copy." IMAP allows multiple client to access the same Mailbox and the same time if needed. POP hates that.
Active Sync won't have any role in this.
If you download on your PDA, you will get a "shadow" on your PDA and the original message will be on the server. You can then go to your Desktop machine it will look what's on the server that it doesn't have as a shadow copy and then download a shoadw copy of that. Meaning at that point, both Devices will have the message in it possesion.

Basically, yeah.
Maybe use a GMAIL account via Imap and seee what happens when you check it from two locations.

Microsoft FINALLY opened up the POP3 ports for Hotmail, Live, MSN, etc. accounts. That means that we can get our email on our devices again without installing that stupid Live program.
This is especially great for me because the newer version of the Live Mobile program was crashing my Manila and freezing my email tab so I had to uninstall it.
I just set up my hotmail account and it worked immediately.
Here's what you need to do:
1. Create a new mail account
2. Don't put the real domain. For example, for hotmail, I put "hormail" because the device will automatically tell you to go to live.com to set it up. You can change your email address after you put in the server settings.
Here are the settings:
POP server: pop3.live.com (Port 995)
POP SSL required? Yes
User name: Your Windows Live ID, for example [email protected]
Password: The password you usually use to sign in to Hotmail or Windows Live
SMTP server: smtp.live.com (Port 25)
Authentication required? Yes (this matches your POP username and password)
TLS/SSL required? Yes

Do all of this and click "Finish" then go back in and change your email server back to what it should be.
Click Send/Receive and you will get your mail.

This is great! Thanks for posting this, now I can free up a few megabytes on my device. I have always hated that I couldn't check my email on older devices that didn't support the live application, like my Mobilepro 900C. I was never a fan of the live app anyway, as I could never choose what happened to my mail on the servers if I deleted it on my device. Thanks,

How to get *all* sent emails to show up
Thanks for the heads-up regarding this. I'd heard Hotmail were going to offer a more standard form of POP/SMTP access one of these days. I've configured my Kaiser accordingly and it shows all my received emails fine and emails I've sent from my Kaiser fine but emails I've sent from my desktop PC do not show up in sent emails on the Kaiser. Is this what others are getting as well? How do I get all of my sent emails to show up as well?
Yea, only emails sent from the device will show up.

Synchronizing folders
I'm can setup my MSN e-mail accounts using the method mentioned earlier.
However, none of the my personal MSN e-mail folders show up for me.
They do if I set up the MSN e-mail using HTTP protocol (and use Adrian HTTPMail Provider) instead of POP3 protocol.
Does anyone know how to get the personal e-mail folders to show up and synchronize using POP3?

Ok, so I don't know if anyone else is having a problem setting up their HD7 with corporate email (Exchange 2003) but I think I need some help on this one. I have tried some other forums in regards to troublesooting this issue but I still get one error or the other concerning not being able to connect.
Can someone just please tell me what the actual settings on the phone should be?
Username: ??
Password: (obvious)
Domain: ??
Server: ??
Server requires encrypted (SSL) connection (Check or uncheck)
Please I need the actual structure of how these fields should be entered.
Any help would be much appreciated.
What do you mean.. It's pretty straight forward. Did you configure your Exchange server on the Win 6.5 or any other Smart Phone Exchange account?
I personally use the OWA (Outlook Web Access) settings.
For my settings (this is how I log into my OWA)
Username: just my username NOT my entire email (this could be different as per your company's policies).
Password: You should know that
Domain: I have a domain for my work, but I know that it's not always required that you need a domain. I did have to enter a domain at my previous employer.
Server: This is always required. In my case, its the web address that comes after the https:// when I sign into my OWA account.

I have tried that and this is the error I get along with troubleshooting tips that I tried.
"There is a problem with the certificate for mail.mydomain.com. Error Code: 80072F06
I was told to try and retrieve the cert from my IIS and I emailed that to my hotmail and then installed the cert. The problem still persists. I also tried getting a third party root cert as well from www.cacert.org. Same issue.
What do you think the problem can be? And I don't think am the only one with this issue.

I have configured exchange on Win. MO 6.5 on my HTC Touch HD back then and it was a breeze. All I entered was incoming and outgoing set to mail.mydomain.com and that was it.
Apparently its a different ball game with Windows Phone 7.

I'm not sure if that was an exchange account you configured if you had options for incoming and outgoing mail servers. They are usually configured for POP mail accounts.

It's not really a different game with WP7. The same settings you would use on an iphone/WM6.5/Android is what you would use on a WP7.
As for the cert issue, if you are able to use exchange with any other smartphone OS, you should be able to with WP7.
My problem with exchange/WP7 is that I have to let it fail upon entering username/pw to get it to prompt for the domain. Then I have to let it fail so I can hit the advanced button to enter the servername (typically mail.servername.com).
I would like to be able to enter all 4 fields from the get go.
mail the .cert to your Live account that you use on your phone and open it on the phone click the .cert and it get downloaded , click it again . (it will install the .cert)
then try to setup your exchange again .
after i mail the cert, do I have to delete the account and reenter it or just try to resync or should it matter?
Honestly, this is really kicking my butt. I actually went on our exchange server, went to iis and got the cert off of the EAS and I rebooted my HD7 but no luck. I am going to try and setup the email again and see what happens.

I don't know , but I think it doesn't matter.
Still doesn't work....I am about to start pulling out my hair literally.
If you want a quick and easy solution, buy an actual digitally signed cert from a legit CoA like godaddy and install it on your exchange server. It will help with so many things, and your phone wont ask you for a cert anymore.
But my concern is why we have to go through that because we want to sync a "SMART" phone with corporate email. Really, is it worth buying a cert for that. I mean if Android, BB and Iphone can pull it off without any hassle, why should Microsoft make us go through all that and apparently no one complains much about this which makes it more annoying.
Yes, it is worth buying a cert for it. We're talking 30 bucks or so, and you won't have to rely on your servers self-signed cert. Things like mail.server.com/exchange will work flawlessly on any machine, never asking you to add an exception, etc.
Even if you had NO smartphones, it's a worthy investment, if only to have your mailserver more legit to the interwebs.
So yes, 30 dollars and an hour of your time are most certainly worth it.

It's a total hassle. You have to get a cert to the phone somehow and install it. Put a real cert on your server and you never ever have to do that crap again.
I am having similar problem. I tried the solution and saved the .cer file to HD7, however Exchange server is still not working with the same error

Where the hell do you get exchange cert for 30 bucks? The cheapest i´ve seen was like 200.
OP: you HAVE to import your servers self-issued cert, it won´t work without it, import it, and then do the settings, also make sure that you have activesync enabled on the server´s side.
