How to delete CABs in Windows Folder? - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

Even thought I did a bloatless install I found all of the bloatware cab files in my windows folder. Since I will never use any of this junk how do I delete them without WM6.1 telling me I can't?

They're a part of the ROM usually, which means that you can't deleted them.

The easiest way to delete them is to install ROMeOS Rom. Here's a link, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=421001.

im sorry, but i really do not see the point of this. i doubt that when he posted this question, he wanted a response like this one. is it so difficult to give someone a straightforward answer to a straightforward question? even though romeos is a very great rom
like kareem said, you usually cannot delete them

I dont know what is PKG.exe, but I can tell you its safe to remove it from statrup.
Found this strange file also in the startup folder of the HTC Touch Cruise. Might be safe to delete, but I don't think they put it in there just for fun
Anyone any idea?
google has all of 3 links about this, surely a chef will know?
So what is now the pkg.exe? I can't find anything with google, sorry...
thanks for the answer,
cj182
Google has way more than 3 links but none really answer the question. I am not a programmer but it appears that it is a generic executable to launch a package (pkg) of plugins\programs. "Pkg.exe" is used in several different applications and that is why I refer to it as "generic". It looks like it does similar function in different installs. Not much help, I know, but I tried.
I deleted PKG.lnk from the Startup folder on my Touch HD and then soft reset it. It doesn't seem to change anything as far as I can tell.
Wondering the same thing myself.
Found this in an old hyperdragon ROM thread:
pkg.lnk:
shortcut to pkg.exe. Psst don't tell anyone, it will run any application named "pkgautorun.exe" located in \Storage Card\2577 then the system will automatically delete pkg.lnk. Safe to delete.
Ok. that was a bit kryptic. No help at all really. lol.
I have it as well - you all dont have tomtom installed do you? I do remember Tomtom install executed files in \Storage Card\2577 but only the 1st time when installed

TomTom Problems

Ive searched the forum for a couple of hours and i cant find a solution to my questions so i thought id create a new thread.
i have downloaded TomTom, i have the .cab file and the .exe file but neither seem to work.
when executing the .exe file i get to the window where it says 'modify, repair, delete' and then the programs closes. if i pick modify it asks me to do a soft reset, which i do and then nothing happens again after that.
when trying to install the .cab it says i need to update my rom version.
i have just flashed duttys 6.1 rom so wondering what could be the problem?
i have been trying to install tomtom for some time now and i would appreciate any help.
cheers
Hi
What .exe file r u talking about? You only need to copy the .cab file to your phone first, then run it from your phone. As for maps use tomtom HOME software...go to tomtom web site to get it..& install on your comp then use it to install the maps. There's a freebie small map to try though with tomtom if it's your first time using it.

The posted thread doesn't relate to the original problem. He can't install the tomtom software. Make sure you have version 6.032.8351 tomtom .cab
My tomtom works just fine.
as stated above my question is not answered, and yes i have searched for hours.
i have the 'Installer_Kaiser_ttn_6_032_8351_HTC_WWE_20070716' .exe file that someone posted on another thread somewhere on here but i cant seem to find it anymore...and i also have the 'ttn_6_032_8351_HTCWWE_Kaiser' .cab file...i know these are just two different types of installation, im just explaining that i have both, and im having trouble with both.
i know that you just put the .cab on the phone and it installs but i get the error message saying a rom needs to be updated.
and with the .exe file do i need to download anything extra before executing it from my pc?
thanks

OK let me clarify this. YOu have flashed dutty 6.1 ROM on your phone successfully correct? If so...
the posted .exe you don't need it..to install tomtom software
and the .cab file posted the name of it doesn't look right..
if you have an email address I can try to email the one I use for you.

that link above is pretty interesting...never encountered that. Kill all apps that could be causing conflict. If that still doesn't work, try using another cab. I have WM 6.1 3.02 version and mine works totally fine.

Is ther Cabs installation tutorial????

I've searched and I've asked and no one wants to help...Could someone please point me in the direction that I need to be in
Purpose
Sliding sounds
Games
and other applications..
Thanks
LOL
Are you really asking how to install a CAB file????? No wonder no one wants to help you..............
First transfer the CAB file to your phone/storage card(remember where you put the file, you will need to know to locate it on the phone).
Go to Start, Programs, and File Explorer.....Navigate to the folder you put the CAB file into and OPEN it, once opened it will automatically start installing.
I am assuming based on your question that its probably gonna ask you if you really want to install because it might not be a trusted certificate just click YES
Now its going to ask you where to install to.....option 1 the DEVICE.........option 2...........Storage Card(if you don't have a storage card then obviously there will be no options and it will just install)
Last, If you can't perform any of the above steps PLEASE don't even try OR attempt anything on this forum. Thread should be closed.
lol..kobe u went in too much detail trying to explain that..
man you have some patience..nice
i would have just said run the cab file from your phone..lol
Smoka PM me i'll make a video and send it to you so you can see how it's done.
No offense, but I'm a Noob on this forum and I know how to install a cab. BTW, I'm a girl.
Redundant thread alert ***
Why would you start another thread asking the same question when you got more than an answer in your original thread....
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=388176
Send me your phone and I'll install it for you....
Lol chapman. Play nice. I was trying to help the super noob.

DotFreds

Hey guys, I am using Dutty's WM 6.1 19209 rom
What my problem is, i want to change the task manager that comes with this rom to the newer version so i can get my video to start recording. I dont know how to uninstall it and replace it because there is an icon in the programs folder.
I read somewhere that all i need to do is replace it and it will work but idk how to replace them in that folder.
So, you don't know how to uninstall it because there is an icon in programs. Interesting. I often get confused about uninstalling things because it's installed. Hmmm.. How about, this probley won't work but it could.
Start
settings
system
remove programs.
If it's there then you need to uninstall via the uninstall.
If not just install the new app, if it's a newer version of the same app it should uninstall automatically.
If this isn't what you ment then I suggest you write your problem out a bit better.
yeah its not there
the newer version wont work when i copy it since the old one is still here.
can i just remove it from the registry?
um is this a cab file or something?
yeah, got it from his website
You should request this in the tread of rom, bigger chance one of the people who is using it or helping out on support there sees it. If not wait couple of days and perhaps bumping it. I say this because if everyone making a new tread like this its going to be impossible to read this forum in the end.
Good luck mate
So you can't copy the cab file to an MicroSD ? Thats amazing.
omfg wow
you would think iv tried that by now.

to me, the reads as you tried to copy it to the phone but it no workie.... I am shocked that the phone won't allow the file to be copied.
Copy and Install are 2 dif things.
I just want to know how to uninstall the one that came with the rom.
copying the new crap isnt the issue.
you cant uninstall it cause its cooked into the rom, use total commander and then you can copy it over

Editing of cooked ROM?

I was wondering if I could extract the files from a cooked ROM (Duttys Extreme 2.5) and remove a couple of the extra apps [mainly flipit] and replace them [with Gyrator] or just remove them and install Gyrator after the flash?
I downloaded the Kitchen tools (BlackStoneKitchen_v07.rar) but it wont work on the blacimg.nbh - it wants RRU_Signed.nbh; I even tried renaming the Blacimg.nbh but it didnt work.
Is there a tool for this?
Its for personal use and I wouldnt be releasing the ROM after the edit and all credit goes to Dutty for the fantastic ROM.
You can't do that with Dutty's roms as they are protected. In fact renaming the image file to ruu_signed.nbh works, but only for unprotected roms .
You can try this thread for help maybe
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=470479
ervius ROM_Deprotector

Not sure if that helps.
Impossible

Duttys rom's are protected so its impossible mate. Unless someone can correct me!
If you don't like FlipIt, then disable it and just use Gyrator. No biggee!!
Fair enough, I can respect the guys wanting to protect their work. The ROM is protected.
Pretty heated debate going on over at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=470479 so I think I'll leave it alone until I find the time to start from scratch.
Thanks
[edit] Is there a way I can uninstall Flip It from the phone? Anyone know seeing as its not on the Remove Programs list?
Thanks again.

Sorry, I missed this. You must have been posting it while I was writing a response.
Would it not matter that its running all the time in the background even with no events/apps set up?
Cheers
