Does Diamond has USB host? - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV General

Ok i read a few posts here that diamond has usb host. Depending on the information how you can flash your rom using card reader it must have. And one thing more i found usb host debuging program. So i think it must have.
The question here is - does someone managed to use it for hard drive or keyboard or something like that ?
Regards

IIRC, the USB host functionality is only available in the boot loader, and there is no driver included for when WM is actually running.

Ok but cant it be included somehow in the windows ?

Diamond does not have USB host functionality. AFAIK, currently only X75xx series offers it.

And the Toshiba G900 has it as well. And it was frickin awsome .....

Last call !!!!
I am trying to draw an attention of experts/cooks again.
Please could somebody elaborate problem of an USB host within Diamond. Is it really impossible to add/implement the USB host driver into Diamond ROM or somewhere else to have that feature in? I simply do not believe in that.

its possible....but the diamond lacks developer's support , sadly

That maybe true, I don't know, but I'm sure the Raphael doesn't, so perhaps look for a solution in that forum?

If i knew how to write one i would do it -.-

USB Host
any conclusions yet? does this mean that the diamond has hardware in it, but does not have the driver? have anyone tried this cable? http://www.nazo-fjt.com/ptcep/w-zero3/es_usb.html
it's in japanese though, but in seconds through babelfish, it is readable in english.
anybody?

for example: anyone can modify RescoExplorer. so when you connect a pendrive to diamond, by resco you can see the pendrive as a second storage......i think thath the logic is this...

any news about this?I'm very interested in it...

There are news! It's there! Now we'd need a host driver and then a lot of Windows Mobile drivers for a lot of devices (what about watching TV with DVB stick? *fg*).

so do what about our WinMo's... I think its only for androids

Reading USB Drives

I havent got a diamond yet, (on its way),
Just wondering if any one has tried to plug in a usb thumb drive into the usb port of the Diamond, and see if it detects it in the diamond as a drive.
This could be a good hack for someone to try if it doesnt detect it, as it could add extra storage.
Keep up the good work everyone

This will not work as the Diamond has no USB host interface!
The only device which I know of which has a USB host is Xda Flame.
thanks for the reply, actually i was thinking of the flame before i looked at the diamond, i guess theres no comparison...
its a cool idea... wouldn't mind seeing it on a device someday

Connect USB Stick

Would it be possible to connect a USB stick to the Diamond by using this adapter ?
Diamond has no USB Host, so no
It would look ridiculous anyway. The Diamond is so small you can afford to carry that AND an Archos anyway. That is what I will do.

I guess because the hardware doesn't support it??
I had this feature on my Flame, was cool but I didn't use it much. You could even connect KB/mouse!

I think so too, but as you can see in service manual, htc connects an memory card reader through an Y-USB cradle to read the service-test sd card.
Doesn't that mean that there must be a way to host a device?
(The second one is an ac-adaptor.)

yeah it looks like it works on the picture.
would be nice to be able to add usbstick to our Diamond, for backup and easy install
where did the pic come from? does the diamond recognize the flash drive?
The picture is from the HTC service manual - it shows how to attach the service test sd card to the device.
I think it should recognize the drive, otherwise they couldn't test the device...

Where can we download it?
xda-dev wiki... like all the other manuals too.
Ok, I must be mistaken here then. Diamond have USB host, at least hardware support for it (unless they have some crossover MC inside this "Y-cable").
Hovewer it seems that it have only limited support in bootloader to load ROM image from memory stick.
Question is if it have the host driver in the Windows Mobile to actually support USB accesses inside WM?
Even soldered myself an y-wire for testing.
Inside Windows Mobile nothing happens when the stick is plugged in. (used an 8GB USB-Stick)
Diamond research section is not so far in the moment, so I don't know how to test if it will work in bootloader mode.
I think they have some electronics switched between device and disk, for access without driver.
edit: removed stupid thoughts, now simple using cat command...

Hi
Is there any progress on this? Do you think we may have usb host for the Diamond at some point in the future?
So, let's push this thread.
I tried to connect an 8GB USB stick throught my self-soldered wire, I've put Diamond into "USB trigger mode" but without any success.
Now we have to figure out which devices can be connected in USB-mode...
I got a few exams in this week, so I'm gonna try at weekend to connect an simple sd card reader.

any luck with , would be tops
any progress?... I am looking forward..

RS 232 / Serial

Hi,
I allways believed there is no RS232 on HTC Devices. Today I found something that confuses me:
http://bestcelldist.com/htc_tytn_ii_serial_data_cable.html
and this:
http://www.ppc-phones.de/index.php?site=ppcphones/htc_p4550.htm
is this Real? - where can you buy such cables? anybody a Wiring diagramm?
As our Devices miss USB Hosts maybe this is a chance to attache some custom Hardware.

Daniel

I know it doesn't work? Or am I wrong?

Interesting. Anyone ever give it a try ?
They do have a free download available...
http://teksoftco.com/index.php?section=products&pid=18
I read the manual and they say: "To connect a USB device to your Pocket PC, your mobile device must have a USB Host connector. Not all Windows Mobile Devices have it."
Kaiser do not have USB host.
I also believe that you cannot draw power from USB. So this leaves BT mouse as only option.

Generic USB devices on HD2?

Assuming USB hub functionality is present on the HD2, does anyone know if standard USB devices (e.g.generic keyboards or standard USB memory sticks) could be used on HD2 without having to install special drivers?
I'd like to know this to!
And like the G02, can I use a gamepad on this baby?
Given that USB host isn't supported how do you expect the device to have the drivers for it?
According to various reviews I've seen, USB host is supported.
sent them a mail
hello, just a quick question regarding the new HTC HD2,
does is "support" USB host, i.e can I plug in ,say, a USB memory stick (Generic devices)?

lets see how fun the answer will be...
Well, there are no drivers for peripherals in the leaked ROMs, no official information, nothing that would really indicate USB host support. It may be enabled somehow via hacks, but that would certainly mean that drivers need to be installed separately.
got a reply from HTC today;
"It doesn't support"
thats a shame really, hoped it would have... no TV out and no usb host, that sucked
how would it work to extract the host drivers from another device?
Could they be used on the HD?
(I think not after what I have read, but it just might work)
may be you can try thoses drivers :

and some proper cabe because you may have to add a input power cable and see if it works and tell us

[Q] USB OTG aka USB Host on XPERIA X1?

Is it possible?
I have O2 XDA Flame working on USB OTG (I think O2 is supplied by HTC) but the device is the way too big. Since X1 is made by HTC too, is it possible?
Hi VSJ, I've read it somewhere, let me google for a momment...
http://russelleclaircorner.blogspot.com/2010/10/customize-x1-usb-flash-drive.html
It's clearly written that X1 won't be able to do so due to limited hardware. Just like TV Out. So far that I know, no matter what to do, X1 has no required hardware or those things.

I am able to use the PS3 controller using the USB OTG cable. It works perfectly and I can use it to totally navigate the phone. Does that mean OSB OTG is working on the Xperia Z1?
