Ordering From UK Clove - XPERIA X1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

ok can someone please tell me what kind of duties you pay when u order from clove from the uk to usa? i want to know should i order there or order from expansys usa. expansys usa is charging like 940 for the unit where as clove uk with the conversion rate is about 760

My shipment was delayed by 1-2 days since they required some additional confirmation of my shipping address in the US (another complication was I was shipping to WORK, different from my billing address!)
I emailed them asking about my order, at which point they said 'oh yea we require some additional infor since you're a "first time customer"', so I sent them a copy of a random bill, and a copy of the top of my paystub (since it had my work address on it -- they didn't ask for this). Said I was good to go and they shipped it later that day...
however I anticipated receiving (via DHL) this afternoon -- tracking now says its "on hold" -- I called DHL, and the phone did not clear customs. Apparently DHL did not add it to the cargo manifest so it was not cleared while in the air. Plane lands, they unload, have no record of customs clearance so they hold it. I had to send DHL a copy of my 1040, and apparently they do customs clearing late at night, which means my X1 is hanging out in Ohio right now (I'm in ATL); hopefully it gets moving, and FAST, once they clear it. But they said that could take 1-2 business days.
I am going to NYC on Wednesday, I REALLLLY want the X1 before then (you know, Google Maps n stuff )
But the Clove price was GREAT! Anticpated paying much more, especially considering other retailers are listing in the 8-900s+, where I thought I would have to be paying...

I ordered from Clove and they were awesome. Excellent communication, great price and delivered as promised. They notified me ahead of time about the credit card verification process (which is a good thing) so that didn't slow my order down. Other than that catch ordering through them, it was a smooth, easy transaction.
I ordered back at the beginning of October and didn't ship immediately so I can't comment on the processing time to ship for in stock items. However, I got an email on 10/20 saying my X1 would ship on 10/27 and they were right on. Also, my card was not charged until it was shipped.
Bottom line, I'd highly recommend them on price, service and quality. Not to mention super fast DHL 2 day shipping from the UK (for impatient people like me).

Clove was perfect. i had preorders on two other sites that were selling for $950-1000. 425 L + 37 L shipping = 462 L total. In USD, it translated to $739.77. $250+ cheaper than mobileplanet (expansys) or mobilecityonline.
ordered on oct 22nd. received an e-mail on friday the 24th regarding incoming inventory and authorization of credit card, shipped out monday morning the 27th, and received the 29th of wednesday in CT.
interestingly, the box is not sealed (i.e. didn't have the sticker that says nobody has opened it before). did anybody else's have one of those?

I noticed there was no seal too but completely forgot about it when I saw the X1, lol. It looked like they threw in a couple little fliers/ads for software and accessories so maybe that's why.

I ordered with Clove on the morning of the 24th (this monday), they stated that i would be getting the device on the 30th or 31th (they should be getting stock on the 29th), i just found out now that they're only getting stock on the 12th of November and i had to ask why my order wasn't shipped yet. They didn't warn me before hand that i wasn't getting my order on the date they stated...

I ordered from Clove, UK.
1. I ordered it last Sat online (before the stock dried up )
2. Called early Monday and had some trouble trying to get my Credit card company to give Clove the authorization number (Clove needs it to verify buyer but my CC company doesn't allow distribution to anyone. Finally, Clove just sent it out anyway). I got it WED!!!! No issues with Customs, etc.
3. I paid $712 for the phone (unbranded/unlocked) and 2 Day DHL shipping (which is almost $300 less than other competitors). It was a retail version and brand new.
4.. Their customer service was outstanding, really tried to help me get this phone. They shipped within hours of CC authorization and approval. I got Tracking Number within hours also. They if anything, are too cautious (thats a good thing) with their verification of orders.
HIGHLY RECOMMEND, VERY HONEST SELLER.

I ordered on the 27th of October (I think you meant 27th as well) and haven't gotten any email update yet. Which worries me because now I have to wait as well....uugggh.. Feel like ordering somewhere else then but they say patience is a virtue... T_T
EDIT: As far as a company I ordered from them my Touch Pro back in August and had no issues with the service. Just wish the x1 was more widely available.

I pre-ordered on October 8th thinking that I was assured a unit. Sadly I was mistaken. On Tuesday I had sent an email wondering what had happened to my unit. They replied asking me to send them a recent credit report or transaction number from my credit card company. I choose to send the transaction number since it seemed a safer solution. After checking my credit history I was amazed to see that I was yet to be charged. I sent an email telling them I could not send a transaction number since no transaction was placed, and decided to fax them a credit report stating my address. A day later they emailed me and offered their condolences as they had sold out of Black units and said that the people who confirmed the security check first would receive them first as there was a lot of demand. I told them they had only sent me a security check after requesting information as to the whereabouts of my order. They of course told me all security checks emails were sent out on the same day. This is absolutly absurred.
So to clarify:
-I ordered on the 8th of October
-First batch came in on the 24th
-They sold out on 27th
-Received email for security check on 28th
-Sent security check on 29th (early in the morning)
-Declined first batch on 30th
-Promised (?) a unit on the next shipment, November 12th.
My question is how they can advertize a product for pre-order if they sell the units on a first come first serve basis. Their clumpsyness is unactable.

Well I just got off the phone with Expansys. They tried to switch my order to a US order to "stop me from paying duties and customs taxes." The guy also told me that they always ship US orders from their UK store from the US and Expansys currently has 300 back orders right now.
The last part is the only bit of truth I got out of him. I've ordered from Expansys UK before and it came from the UK and I didn't have to pay any taxes. All he was trying to do was make me pay the higher price on the US website and wait longer. What a crock of #$%^
Long story short, I'm keeping my order with Clove even if I have to wait until Nov 12th for it to ship out. I might try eBay but I don't know if I'm going to risk it not to mention the prices are way too high.

So are you saying that if you ordered from the UK expansys you wouldn't get it anytime? Or are u saying that the US expansys has 300 back orders?

I ordered a TP back in August over a weekend, they processed the transaction on Monday (I sent them an email with the 6-digit transaction number for confirmation) and shipped it out same day. It missed the outbound DHL flight that night but was on its way the next day; had the TP in my hands by 11am Wednesday, west coast US.
For clarification, Clove needs you to confirm your CC only if you're a new customer. This is so that they don't end up exporting the phones to bad orders (black market, etc). As long as you've got your billing/shipping info all straight with your CC issuer (you might also call ahead to let them know to expect the charge in GB Pounds), there should be no major problems, except waiting for stock to arrive.

The guy was very vague and when I'd ask him to clarify he kept asking me how I wanted it shipped (Ground, 2 day, or Next Day)?!?! He made the statement that Expansys had 300 back orders (I would assume UK since the US store is still a preorder). He also said that they are supposed to get more next week but that the shipment wouldn't be enough to fill all the back orders. He was basically telling me that anyone in the US that ordered form the UK store really ordered from the US store (they would hand off the transaction to US). I should have hung up and called back when he said that because that is a lie.
Bottom line I don't know what the call really accomplished except that this guy was trying to scam me. I am inclined to believe the 300 back orders because of the demand for the phone. Take it with a grain of salt though.

I thought it was slightly strange that with all the demand for the silver one they had 100+ listed this morning. I'm going to call them and see if they actually have some in stock or if they are just lying.

xda store Kaiser shipping update?

Begining to lose all faith in XDA Store. Ordered 8 days ago as "in stock". Not shipped. Emailed Richard yesterday. He responded they were expecting shipment today to fill all backorders and have extras. The day is now over, no email of shipment notice. Furthermore the Kaiser model has apparently been removed from their site. I can only believe Richard lied in his email. That they do not know when any kaisers will be received. Any shipment they would be recieving would have its own tracking, delivery date should not be suspect. XDA store fraudulently took my money and does not care the in the least about its customers. Richard knows exactly who is waiting for their paid merchandise and does not have the decency to tell them they have problems. Is any one else waiting for a shipment from XDA? All of you that received yours apparently were simply lucky. The Kaiser is available from other vendors (yes, at higher price) and he has prevented me from ordering elsewhere. VERY Low class outfit.
The day is not over for them as I was notified at 9 or 10PM the day mine shipped. I would email Richard again and just ask if they came in and did yours ship. Pretty simple.

This sounds a bit harsh to me. I ordered from them just a few days ago. I haven’t received any info back from Richard yet but lets be realistic....this phone is a VERY hot item and I am sure he is inundated with requests like "I ordered 10 minutes ago....can you send me my tracking number..etc, etc,etc"
Getting items shipped to the U.S. like this is not just a piece of cake. It takes a bit of time and a bit more patience. I have no affiliation with store.xda in any way but just think that the assumption that someone lied to you because you haven’t received an email from them is a bit presumptuous. So is the assumption that other stores have them available to ship immediately.

My main business is a an investment advisor. I am held to very high service standards by government agencies (your investment results may vary oower). I can not tell people i have something, charge them for it and not give it to them and stay in business very long. Frankly the few dollars I saved was not worth it. Richard knew yesterday the shipment would not arrive in time to ship and should have said so. Frankly his lack of proactive damage control is very disappointing and it is very clear they simply do not care about customers. I do thank you for those last few posts with updates. At least I have been able to acquire all the immediate accessories while waiting (screen protectors, 6gb microSD etc.)

Yes, there is no certainty that Richard would know exactly when his stock would arrive. When I asked him this same question yesterday -- about the stock he is expecting...he was candid..here is his reply:

I ordered on Sep.30 (last sunday) so it's been 6 days since i ordered and i have yet to recieve news yet. When i asked him yesterday he told me what he told you guys, that a shipment was coming in on friday and that all the backorders will be fulfilled. Since i have not recieved a notice, im guessing that the shipment came late and they couldnt send out my kaiser, what sux more is that i live in canada so it'll take a week for me to get mine, so either next friday or the following monday

why would there be any lying going on? The next shipment was coming in on Friday, as per the messages, and it did indeed come in on Friday, just not on time to be processed into inventory, prepared for shipping and sent out again. Actually, they were ready, but as you can read in the messages, there was no more DHL pickups at that time.
I feel that even with the issue that it appeared to be in stock (which was corrected), the communication has been great with anyone that mailed and that honest answers where provided. It is a p.i.t.a. to work around the scheduling mishaps with some suppliers and that is what happened with XDA receiving stock on this item.
If you were not happy with the wait, why didn't you just Cancel your order and go elsewhere and pay more? I am sure someone else sitting in the queue would be happy to receive that phone.......
PS: I heard that this issue with the stock of the phone will be fixed with a good and reliable supplier they found and also that they will offer the Tilt with contract sometime next week or so.

Thank you for you input. I email twice, only one repsonse. The lying was when they sold a product they did not have and charged my card the day of order. Anyway we will never see eye to eye on the service issues. My standards are signifcanly higer across all three of my companies.

To be quite honest, i work in a very customer service driven enviroment, and i know how things work... I know that richard himself does not control the website, but is merely an employee of the company that does, richard has no control directly on the site, he may make requests to the people that do, but thats it... every company is that way..
Richard has provided by far the greatest customer service i have experienced in a long time, he is always prompt and polite when dealing with him, and also relays the information accurately as its given to him. As with any customer service representative we are all just merely puppets on a string...
As for you, you are a consumer, as a consumer you have the right to make a purchase with whomever you choose. If you feel that you have made an error in judgement then you do have the right to take your business elsewhere... Im sure that you could cancel your order and get your money back and perhaps buy one on ebay and have it shipped out right away..

yes i had to wait a bit but i was ok with that. cause i have a smile on my face today cause i got my phone. and richard did outstanding responding to all of my inquires as well as one of my co-workers.
same here -- mine arrived today, as promised...there were delays beyond Richard's control, but when the stock finally came on friday, he told me I would receive mine on tuesday and they came early this morning..

I think I posted before - there were probably 5 email that I sent to get 2 back. I went as far as to go to the website and use their form just in case something was going whacky.
And like the other poster - the purchase posted mins after I made the purchase. A week later - and it was still not sent. And I got two email giving me the "it's almost here". It wasn't until I sent a "Cancel my Order" that my phone was ready to ship... :-|

The other interesting part to this is that I bought a XDA-Membership to go with this to lower the price. That wasn't refunded. I decided not to ask for it to be refunded because I want to support this site.
Free $40 for leading me on for a week.
Mark that against my Premier order from AT&T: Ordered at 1:12AM on Friday night. 2 day fed-ex. Arrived on monday at 11:00 am (a day early).
You don't have to have great customer service when you do what you say you will... .......... ....

.. that is normal. When a credit is issued, it posts some when during the night and it doesn't appear on your account for at least 48 hours. I have seen cases where it even takes more, some warn on 30 days........
Glad you got all working now, with a deprecated Kaiser though
Yea I don't think they were doing any big time investments with your 700 bucks in those 48 hours. Hey they did you a favor you saved what 600 bucks and got the Barbie phone....Good luck with that. Came home to my phone today. YEAH, It is very nice. But XDA did not ship the car charger I ordered with it. Plenty of room in DHL box. Just emailed them to check on it. Now I will be up late playing with it.

[Q] Where to NOT buy white Note?

Why?
Trying to deal with them has been harder than performing brain surgery in the dark with one hand tied behind my back.
Ordered a white Note on January 25th. They needed extra identity verification (aka the documents they need to defraud me a month from now). I order from B&H all the time with orders exceeding $2,000 without having to verify my identity.
Fine, I played their game, January 28th rolls around and it can't ship till next week because they are backed up. I tell them forget it, to cancel it, and I will get it from someone else who can do business professionally.
Between January 28-30. I have FOUR comfirmation email cancelling my order from TWO diff reps and from the

email. Now today, February 2, I receive an email that my order has shipped and here is your tracking number...
Scammers folks. Terrible customer service. Been sitting on the phone for ONE HOUR trying to talk to someone live....no one will pick up. No one is returning my emails. I just filed for fraud on my credit card, I will refuse the package when it arrives, telling you guys here, and also prepping my attorney for anything.
SimplyElectronics.net is not professional, not prompt, sketchy, involved in fraud throughout Europe, and by far the worst company I've ever dealt with.

I ordered an HTC Flyer last August. It took about two weeks before they sent it out. The tracking code was emailed two days after shipping the parcel. And then DHL decided to f*ck up the delivery - returning the parcel to UK. After a month and a dozen emails I finally got my money back.
On November I noticed that they were selling the Flyer very cheap - around 330€ for the 3G model (here in Finland it's 700€) so I decided to order it again. A few days after the payment I was asked for identification which I sent immediately. Two days after this I was informed that ALL of the 3G Flyers were "damaged" during delivery and couldn't be sold. That's bull****. Another few weeks of waiting and I got my money back.
And then the Note. It took a week to send it, even though the web page says it will be shipped in 1-2 days. Eventually got my Note but it's an HK model and there was no pre-filled warranty card included. So no chance of a possible warranty service here then.
Simplyelectronics appears to have little to none physical stock - all they do is hunt cheap items, ship them to the UK and off to customers. If they advertise a price and run into problems and are unable to purchase the item for a cheap price, they come up with an excuse like the damaged boxes with the Flyer. Different camera forums have also reported similar behaviour.
I won't be purchasing anything from Simplyelectronics anymore.

Because at that time they were one of the very few offering the white Note, and since they ship from UK I was able to avoid VAT.
I got mine from Expansys uk. I did have to verify my address but I haven't ordered from them before. Next day delivery though and I was very pleased.

Costco Sprint Pre-Order

I just noticed that the expected processing date is May 3rd. Does anyone have prior experience with Costco pre-ordering? Any chance for an early shipment?

All these best buy,Costco will always delay...obviously the carries are the first to get stock and ship.

Lets hope some retail stores actually get the S4 on Saturday. Since this announcement my confidence of walking into a store on sat and buying a S4 has been taken down a peg.
Full disclosure: I "pre-ordered" at a sprint store in Chicago.
Costco Shipping Update
I just updated my shipping address and credit card info with Costco. I switched to American Express to get extra year's warranty in addition to the $99 one is my understanding. But more importantly while on the phone the very nice young lady I asked if she had any updated shipping information.
She asked me for which phone and I told her the Black S4. She said the earliest processing would be May 3rd and that shipping would be on May 6th. Now I can set my expectations appropriately.
Black S4 Is Not Available
I just looking on the website and it looks like the Black S4 is no longer available for order.
White Frost is now sold out also.
I ordered last Thursday night but still no change in order status.
I was told mine would be processed April 30th and arrive may 2nd

I hope this is the case. I sent an email yesterday seeing if I could get some kind of verification for when the orders will be processed. I got nothing. I have considered cancelling and seeing if I can get telesales to give me a better price. I'm sure I would no issue getting sprint to waive the $36 activation fee regardless of where I ordered. I've never had any trouble in the past.
But today is the 30th and haven't heard anything from costco....fingers crossed.

I called them yesterday after not receiving any replies to various emails and the girl that answered me seemed very disinterested in answering any of my questions. I got the cookie cutter answer of "it's being processed the 3rd or before" which is basically a screw you nothing's getting done until the 3rd and not shipping until the 6th at the minimum. I'm kinda regretting buying through Costco and it's probably the last time I order from them as well.

I'm with you. I work in the service industry and if we treated our customers like with the same sort of disinterest, we'd get our asses handed to us.
Here is their response to an inquiry I made to costco asking about availability and my response back. I don't think it's too much to ask of them to keep us in the loop on when the s4 will be available for shipping:

Is it possible to let me know if "the device has launched" to costco? "On or before 5/3" states that it is possible that the device could possibly "lauch" to costco and be available to ship prior to 5/3. I guess we are the only few that got suckered by Costco... the silent uninformed wait is dreadful.
I am very surprised by all of this. Costco typically prides itself on strong customer service. I realize that this is being handled by a third party (contracted out by Costco), but Costco still is involved with this as it has their brand name on it.
I feel pretty lame too. I thought I was one of the "lucky" ones to get an order in before they sold out and now I realize that maybe I wasn't so lucky after all.
I don't mind waiting a week at all...
The accessories were free. (While not the best and the screen protector looks like you have to trim it yourself)
And they didn't charge pre-discount tax.
So instead of paying $320 after tax, we paid $228. Saving $100 for 1 week of waiting? Yes. I will do that.

i couldn't get free activation from customer service, so tack on another $36 I'll be saving.
Came out to $209 instead of $316
I probably won't use the accessories either, except that 3-in-1 charger if it's >1.5 Amps. so that's a $10 bonus.

Slickwraps order hanging

Hasn't been shipped after two weeks. Not a preorder and not purchased during a sale. Anyonenelse with this problem?
I placed my order on 29th Aug which I received today (though I took advantage of sales promo).
A friend ordered skins for his airpods when they came out and didn't get his order for 4 weeks and no shipping email or anything. When he called them they had no customer service. So you'll just have to wait honestly.

i had a similar problem.
their customer support was ridiculous. they basically told me to kick rocks and that it was too late to refund cancel. i found that to be very odd.
i've ordered with them before and never had this kind of issue.
luckily, i opened a dispute with paypal and A FEW WEEKS LATER i got my refund.
they never even responded to paypal!
to anyone reading this, i recommend you OPEN A PAYPAL DISPUTE NOW on your unshipped slickwraps orders.

I placed an order with them on Monday using their 30% off coupon. It's already shipped from Wichita and I'll have it Friday. Crazy how some orders go through immediately and others don't. I agree, if their customer service sucks then avoid them completely. Had I known this I would have gotten a camo one from DBrand or a carbon fiber/dragon from Phantomskinz.
Order mine on the Aug 30th, I just sent a request to cancel. Makes no sense it takes this long to ship.
I will file a Paypal dispute if my order is not shipped this week. It seems it is not just me at all.
I can't imagine they're not having a sale around the release of the Note 8. I've only ordered from them once in the past (for my Note 5) and it took about two weeks for me to get my order because of how many orders they said they needed to process. Sounds like they just don't have enough manpower to keep up with things.
I ordered mine back in early September still no shipping, when I reached out to them they said they had a backlog of shipping due to large order numbers. My guess is they shifted resources to field iPhone 8 orders. Still no shipping from them or update on tracking.

I was wondering if anyone knew which retailers in the UK are taking pre-order for a sim free P20 Pro dual sim variant (as part of the free Bose Headphones deal)?
I have looked at the following retailers so far and none of them seem to have the dual sim variant,
Carphone Warehouse
John Lewis
Vodafone
Very
O2
EE
Three UK seems to have the dual sim variant, but they are only available on Pay monthly deals and I am looking for sim free deals.
Anyone who know about the availability in the UK, can you please share with others?

I am in exactly the same boat. Waiting on Amazon to see if they list as a pre order before launch date. Obviously running out of time.
I am toying with the idea of buying through three on a pay monthly and then cancelling the contract and paying it off. Need to do more digging on this but think you get a 20% discount to pay off early which makes it under £700 (I think)

I plan to call Three to get this clarified and see how much it comes up to after cancelling. I am hoping you can still keep the headphones and that it doesn't affect the credit ratings

Just finished speaking to Three about the contract and they say, it needs to be paid in full of the remaining contract period. So, I did the math and even for the cheapest plan they have, it comes up to £940 (£99 upfront + £35x24), which is £140 more than buying it sim free.
Can't decide if I want to pay that much extra money for a dual SIM variant...

I think you should get 20% discount to cancel. It's mentioned in their terms...
"Lump sum equivalent to the total of the Monthly
Charges remaining during the Minimum Term of your
agreement less a variable discount, currently 20%. We
reserve the right to vary the amount of the percentage
discount from time to time."

Hi daz_2000,
Yes, I did check the same terms and conditions on their site after speaking to the customer assistant, who clearly mislead me in the first place.
After checking the terms and conditions and having spoken to an another customer assistant, he confirmed that the lump sum is less 20% of the remaining contract.
So, I have now ordered a P20 Pro from Three, as I am losing patience and it seems the best deal to get a dual SIM in the UK with the free headphones
Looking forward to getting the phone on Friday

Got order confirmation straight away when ordered on Monday, assume I'll get the usual tracking info from the delivery company later tonight (thursday).

That's great. I haven't received any confirmation yet. I placed the order over the phone. Called them yesterday chasing for the confirmation and they said I shall get it all tomorrow morning. I hope they don't mess up with the confirmation on pre-order bit by sending it all tomorrow.

I ordered Tuesday from three and I'm still waiting for confirmation.
Three told me they haven't got stock from Huawei yet. But they still said I would get phone latest Monday.

Argh... Typical Pre-order frustrations!! Last time I experienced it was when I pre-ordered Nexus 6P (by Huawei).
It still says Estimated delivery to be the 6th April on their website, so I am going to keep hoping

Aaarggh... my order confirmation email states:
Estimated delivery date:* Friday, 6th April
If there are any changes to this date we'll let you know by email.
No email yet but after the above and someone commenting earlier that they hadn't received the stock from Huawei i'm not holding out much hope for tomorrow....

Problem is in my experience you don't hear anything till about 10pm the evening before delivery (when a dispatch/delivery notice comes through) no way of telling before then, even calling in gets mixed results!.
I'm just resigned to getting it whenever, problem is i'm super impatient as my s9 sucks (battery and call issues).

I believe a lot of us are in the same boat of being impatient Though I am still more than happy with my nearly 3 years old Nexus 6P (not rubbing in, promise!)

I called three again. They confirmed mine will be out for delivery tomorrow and I'll get a text in morning with delivery slot. Not holding my breath. But fingers crossed!
