connect XDAII to my dsl using usb... - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 Windows Mobile 6 Upgrading

please help me...
i want to use internet on my himalaya....
and i dont want to use gprs(its expensive here in philppines)
i dont have bluetooth on my pc
i dont have wifi also
but i have my desktop pc connected to dsl
my only option is via usb....
please tell me how can i do it...

its very easy, connect your Himalaya via USB to your Pc, right click on the small Active Sync icon in ur taskbar (in Pc) and goto Options or maybe its Connection Settings, after that select Allow... (tick both of the options in the end) and click ok..reconnect and ur done

still it doesnt work...
sir ather have already tried it?

should i put any settingson xda II?
what should be there settings?

nope no settings, just connect your himalaya and ur done, ok try this..right click on your "Network Places" icon on your XP and click Properties, you'll see the list of available LAN Cards, check to see if there is a Network card named "Windows Mobile.." if u can see that, then it means ur connected

yes... there is windows mobile on my network

is it your home pc you are trying to connect USB to? or is it an office pc?
if it is your home PC, you should not have any problems once your XDA is connected by cable and activesync to your PC. However, if it is your office computer, it will be another story, yes you can connect to your office computer via activesync, but the internet connection in your office may be domain-controlled, meaning, for none members of domain, internet access is restricted.
i have a very nice setup at home which you could follow:
1. buy a cheap wifi card for your XDA (i have a spectec wifi card bought at 2,250 pesos)
2. buy a cheap wifi router (i bought one from CDR king at 1350 pesos only)
3. Connect your wireless router to your DSL modem/router, setup your router.
4. Install the drivers for your wifi card in your XDA and insert the card.
5. Look for your WIFI router from connections-network cards then connect.
6. You can now SURF the internet using your XDA in any portion of your house and even outside.

Download the file below then unzip it. Right click on the file (it's a file with the name LSPvalue.reg) and pick "merge" from the list. This should fix it.

Comm Manager Internet Sharing instead of Wireless Modem?

I have an AT&T Tilt running its original ROM. Is there a way to change the Comm Manager to have a shortcut to Internet Sharing instead of Wireless Modem? I replaced the Comm Manager with a nice touch style one, but it still shows Wireless Modem, so I assume there is somewhere in the registry which tells Windows which one to use by default for this type of task. Does anyone know how to change it?
Bump...It's been awhile since this question was asked and I'm looking for the same thing. Anyone have any ideas yet?
Has anyone found a way?
where is Internet Sharing?
I'd like to give ICS a try instead of using wireless modem.
I have the original ROM. Where should I find Internet Connection Sharing?
I've looked in Start > Programs, and it's not there. If it is not on my phone, can I add it?
Thanks, Bren

If its not there, its hidden in your My Device/Windows directory. Its there, you just gotta look. On mine its called Internet Sharing. You can then create a shortcut to it and place it in your programs or start menu.

download both AdvancedConfig_v1.1.CAB and AdvancedConfig_v1.0.CAB from http://xda.scan4.us/index.php?sort=date&order=desc&path=Cabs/ and change it from there
Internet Connection Sharing
Thanks for your responses to my post. I did find the app in my Windows folder. It's called IntShrUI.exe. I pasted a shortcut of it into my Start Menu > Programs folder. I haven't been able to figure out how to configure my PC to make it work.
I've been researching in the forums how to configure a PC to use the internet connection of my phone. My PC doesn't have Bluetooth, so I would like to use the USB connection. Most of the postings are how to configure for Bluetooth.
If you know where to find a good explanation, please post the link for me. I'm running Windows XP Pro. I want to use the phone as a back up connection if my cable connection goes down.
I have been successful using my phone with AT&T connection manager on my computer, but I have a problem with that. I have Virtual PC installed on my computer, and the network configuration of Virtual PC doesn't recognize the AT&T Connection Manager as a network card, so my VPC doesn't have access to the internet through my phone.
I'm hoping that with Internet Connection Sharing, the network adapter on my PC will still be used, and access the Internet through the gateway on my phone.
Thanks, Bren

There are 2 ways to get it working over USB. Either get the USB modem drivers working, (Which I have never been able to do) or use windows dial up networking. I have connected my Tilt to the AT&T 3G data network with the Windows xp Professional DUN interface. When I get home I'll copy my DUN settings and post them here. Its the same settings I used to use to teather my Motorola V551 for data. I accidentally clicked on DUN a few weeks ago while the Tilt was connected and it worked with the same settings.
Of course, I do have a USB Bluetooth dongle, and getting ICS working is easiest with BT. All you have to do for that is set up a pairing between the 2 devices, and create a BT Personal Area Network.
-Jay
I got it working
Thanks, Jay.
I pieced together information I found about ICS, and I got it working. It works with my Virtual PC because Windows XP puts a Network Connection in the Network Connections folder that I can use to create a Virtual Network in the VPC configurations.
When my phone is connected to my computer via USB, and I open Internet Connection Sharing app on the phone, and then connect to the phone's data network, the Network Connection is automatically created in XP.
I'm not sure what was missing, but when I tried this earlier on my laptop, it didn't successfully automatically install the Generic RDNIS driver that my desktop did successfully install. I'm going to try it again on my laptop. On my laptop, I do have bluetooth, and I will try to get that working instead of USB.
I'm wondering, is there any advantage to using AT&Ts Communication Manager instead of Internet Connection Sharing?
Thanks again for your response.

I would think that the advantage is that they then know for a fact you are teathering, and can be exxxxtra sure you are being "properly billed" on an "appropriate" data plan that probably costs at least $60/mo

Ok, I found the Cingular / AT&T DUN settings on my computer.
Username: [email protected]
Password: CINGULAR1 (This is case sensitive!!!)
Number to Dial: *99***3#
I also always max out the port speed in the modem configuration so the port doesn't restrict a nice fast HSDPA connection.
This will work for Bluetooth or USB modem connections.

HTC USB Modem Driver for XP or 2000

I have been working on setting up Internet Sharing on my laptop(s) for a few days now and have searched and read through the forums to no avail. I need the USB Modem Driver for Win2K and XP (SP2 if it matters). I put the set up CD in and searched it, but it list drivers only for Vista (32 and 64 bit).
Does anyone know a solution for this or know how to get hold of these drivers?
Thanks for your help.
Bobby
Can you not use Internet Connection Sharing?
If I knew how....
I could most likely use ICS if I knew how. When I plug the phone into the laptop it displays the found new hardware wizard, but no compatible driver for it to use. I have done a search on google, here on the forums and the MS website and am not able to locate the HTC USB Driver that is called for in the wireless modem section of the users guide.
I have seen some information about using ICS, but nothing to tell me how it works or what I need to do to get it to work. Is it a matter of installing Active Sync onto the laptops I want to use, then kick off ICS to access the web from the laptop?
Thanks,
Bobby
i too have been desperately searching for this. I can't seem to find anything. This laptop is my primary computer so it already has ActiveSync and the Tilt setup, but it won't recognize it once I switch the phone into "wireless modem" mode (where it deactivates the activesync functions)
Is this what your looking for?

I'm sure this has already been covered somewhere... but, did you search for the standard Internet Sharing app that was supposed to be on WM6 ROMS by default? I bought my Tilt 2 weeks ago, am on the stock ROM, and found the app hidden in \Windows and it works fine here. If you find it there just create a shortcut and place it in \Start\Programs or wherever you want.

i tried to use the internet connection share - but it wouldn't work either. it kept showing me the bubble (starting GPRS, Edge, 3G connection) and then eventually said "the remote party has ended the connection"
EDIT: never mind, got it to work! Had to change "Network Connection:" from "AT&T ISP" to "MEdia Net".
what am I missing
So to get this to work all that needs to be done.
connect phone to laptop (regardless of O/S Version) via USB cable
start ICS and you are off and running?
No driver install is needed on the laptop (including no activesync install needed), is that correct?
Thanks,
Bobby

10.9 Using Your Device as a Modem
(Internet Sharing)
Internet Sharing connects your PC or notebook computer to the Internet by using your device’s data connection (GPRS or EDGE, for instance). You can choose to connect via USB or Bluetooth.
Follow the procedure in this section to set up your device as a USB modem. To learn how to set up your device as a Bluetooth modem, see “Use the device as a Bluetooth modem” in this chapter.
Notes • Make sure your device has a SIM card installed, and your device has a GPRS or phone dial-up modem connection. If your device has not been set up with a data connection yet, tap Menu > Connection Settings on the Internet Sharing screen.
• If you want to use a USB cable connection, you must first install Windows Mobile Device Center or Microsoft ActiveSync version 4.5 or later on the computer.
• Before using Internet Sharing, disconnect from Windows Mobile Device Center or ActiveSync on your computer.
• On your computer, run 3gnetopt.exe from the Application Disc to optimize the connection speed between your device and computer.
To set up your device as a USB modem
1. On your device, tap Start > Programs > Internet Sharing.
2. In the PC Connection list, select USB.
3. In the Network Connection list, select the name of the connection that your device uses to connect to the Internet.
4. Plug in the USB cable between your device and the computer.
5. Tap Connect.
To end the Internet connection
On the Internet Sharing screen, tap Disconnect.
hope this helps someone
Hey guys, I usually try and post whenever I finally figure something out...I was getting the error message: Cannot Connect "the remote party has ended the connection" and from some of what I was reading it was because I was trying to use internet sharing with a mediamax $20 plan and I wouldn't be able to do that any longer because of something embedded in WM6 which told AT&T that I was tethering. Well my laptop is connected right now via usb through internet sharing on WM6 on my 8925/tilt and I have the $20 plan. I just checked my speeds and I am at 1485kb/s upload and 339kb/s (is that good?) seems much faster that wireless modem connection I used to use on 8525 w/ wm5. Internet sharing is the way to go. I am not exactly sure what fixed my problem--I did a few things and finally stopped getting the cannot connect: remote party...error. I first erased the user name and password under the connection settings ([email protected]) and left both fields blank. That didn't fix it like it did for some others that I read about so I did a power down and power back up (not sure if this is different than a reset with the stylus in the hole). Still wasn't fixed...On the internet sharing screen the second box under network connection I changed from "AT&T isp GPPRS" to "media net" and then connected and it worked. I don't think I need the username and password for anything because I can still browse on the phone without them--not sure why they were there. I haven't checked to see if I can internet share with the password and username reinserted...Hope that helps someone else out...don't give up it is possible to internet share through mediamax $20 with WM6...
Quick Fix For Those who couldn't figure it out
On your AT&T Tilt or (Possibly any Windows Mobile 6 Device)
Navigate to your "file explorer"
Step 1 (Locate the File Explorer) Not Internet Explorer
Start > Programs > Tools > File Explorer
(Possibly) Start > Programs > File Explorer
(Possibly) Start > File Explorer
Step 2 (Using File Explorer navigate to "My Device")
Then Locate the "Windows" Folder
Scroll all the way down to InternetSharing (Press the letter "I" to get you there faster)
Have your the device plugged into your computer and run that application and make sure these 2 options are selected:
PC Connection: USB
Network Connection: Media Net
Hit Connect
If it doesn't connect for you right away or gives an error message try this:
Unplug your phone from the computer
On the internet sharing application press Connect and immediately connect the USB cable.
Hope this works for others.
Have a data plan with at&t or you might be seeing some rather large charges on your internet bill.

Is that a USB RNDIS driver? As in no need for activesync?
I know it is possible, as I used usb-rndis-lite to use my kaiser as a modem on linux, but I never found anything that allowed me to share the conn via usb without activesync.
FYI, for those who do not have activesync for whatever reason, WMWiFiRouter will let you do it via WiFi.
The easiest way.
Just install the latest activesync.
If you don't want it syncing, no problem. Just right click on the activesync icon in your task bar, go to connection settings and uncheck allow USB connections. You'll still be able to use Internet Sharing but it won't try to sync every time.
After you have activesync on your computer you'll be able to use the Internet Sharing all you want. Just be sure you press connect on your device before you plug the usb cable in. Otherwise sometimes it won't connect.
Don't abuse it, or most likely your provider will slam you with tethering charges if it's very obvious you're using it. Assuming you don't have a tethering plan, of course.
Sometimes (eg on a corp laptop) you are not allowed to install activesync for example, but a driver would be OK - so it's always good to have alternatives.
Not so much of an issue now as WMWifiRouter is a more universal solution, but not all machines have wifi, so an RNDIS driver for USB would still be nice to have handy.
Been on T-Mobile web'n'walk (the basic one, not the tethered one) for over 6 months now, I use tethered mode on a daily basis, not had any complaints or charges yet. Mind you, I don't really hammer it, just web pages, ppc app downloads, a bit of youtube maybe. They could probably tell by looking at the browser IDs, but I doubt I am top of their list.
Even if they do hit me with the charge for the "Pro" version that allows tethering, it's only another £5 a month and I am on the lowest voice tariff anyway as I have an HTC original and not a subsidised phone.
WOW!!!! I can't believe this thread went as long as it did. Grats to DuMnUt101 and Evilc.. I wish I had my usb cable here with me so I could test the active sync part. Did this guy ever get it working?
The driver attached previously is not a ICS driver but a modem driver - you need to supply APN, username and password. Could possibly work, but when I run the EXE, it does not detect the phone as a modem.

Hi,
If you want to use internet sharing from HTC Modem via USB you just have to activate that functionality on the phone and then connect the USB cable to your PC.
Your windows will ask for drivers if you dont have ActiveSync4.5 installed (XP/NT2000/NT2003).
If you have ActiveSync already installed (this will install usb modem drivers you need) then you should have no problem with drivers and will be ready to use your mobile's shared internet.

Hi,
If you just want to use internet shared by your phone on your PC, you just have to install ActiveSync4.5 (this will install the usb modem drivers required).
This will set you ready to use the mobile's internet on your PC.
After this you can always get the drivers using "Device Manager".
Hope this is the answer you wanted!

S730-Notebook with Vista-No internet

I have a notebook, with MS Vista, and with mobile internet (pcmcia card). A tried to connect internet via s730 through mobile device center, but i can't.
I tried with WI-FI: connect to my notebook (ad hoc connection) but i can't use internet.
I tried it with free hotspot and it works.
I don't understand. What can i do?
How are you trying to get online?
You want the s730 do connect to your data network and share that? Or do you want to dial it into the internet (someone got that working on here) or are you connected through your notebook already and want to share that to your s730?

I've never been able to get this to work, I don't even know if you can or not.
I am confused.
Do you want your s730 to get on the Internet by connecting to your laptop? Can you just use a usb cable then you can use internet connection through laptop onto phone.
If I understand you correctly your laptop is what is online and you want it to pass the connection onto your phone through the wifi?
If thats the case that you just need to enable ICS on your laptop. It will be under your menu settings, I havnt messed around with vista's network settings so I cannot tell you quite what it looks like. Possibly a check box or a protocol to install. But once you install Internet Connection Sharing your computer should pass the connection out.

I have this working on my machine with my 730. Often you might need to repair the network connection to your phone from the network connection control panel as it sometimes loses it's IP address.
I also found that I needed to do some work in OneCare which I use as an AntiVirus and Firewall as this was blocking access to the Mobile Device Center.
hope this helps

use Diamond as a modem

I read somewhere you can use the diamond as a modem for a laptop, but i cant seem to get it working. Also i cant find any setting for this.
Has anybody experience with this?? please advice
Well, I don't know about a modem per se, but if you want to use your phone's internet connection to connect to the Internet from your PC, do the following:
Before connecting the Diamond to your PC, start the "Internet Sharing" app (located in Start - Programs). You can select Bluetooth for your PC connection, but it will drain the battery on your phone in NO TIME. Select USB, and then select the network connection you use to connect to the Internet on the phone itself (the default will usually suffice), and then click Connect. This will start the app, at which point you can plug it into your PC and your PC should do the rest.
I use as a modem regularly. I have not found the need to start Internet Sharing before connection....just connect in the normal way, letting ActiveSync do its thing as you have told it to. Just watch after you have finished that the link drops...I forgot once and it cost me! I use MoDaCo Nodata to prevent any unwanted connections. You can also set long-prees-end-key to kill the connection.

On my ROM what I´m usin right now there are three options after connecting with pc - the 3rd is internet sharing And it connects without any probs
You have to launch the internet sharinf manually in program list or in the connection tab of the setting of Windows Mobile
In my first ROM I had the 3 options when I connect the USB, with the actual I only have the two (active sync and hard drive)
Do someone know the way to activate the choice when I connect the USB ?
thats my problem, and it havent been solved till now..
i just dont have the internet sharing option, i only have 2 options!!
I was thinking that you don't have the internet sharing program too...
Use active sync and then open internet sharing.
