How can I use my phone's GPS with a program like Streets and Trips or Street Atlas?
I often use my laptop while on the road (the wife drives) and would prefer a better option than TT6 Navigator.

you need to expose your GPS to an external serial BT port. I think there is a tool called BlueGPS that does this. You can then use BT on your laptop to get the NMEA output. It makes your integrated GPS phone act like a BT GPS device for your laptop.

I use BlueGPS with my tilt over USB and it works well, except if I try to use Internet Sharing or WMWifiRouter it disconnects the com port. I haven't been able to get BlueGPS to work with Bluetooth of Wifi yet. So it only works with programs that have the maps on the computer and not ones like GooPS that get the maps from the Internet.

I downloaded the BlueGPS CAB, but cannot seem to get it to work.
Any specific instructions on how to get this BlueGPS work on the phone and have the laptop computer use the phones internal GPS receiver over bluetooth?

Old thread...but after much investigation, I have discovered what you need is gps2blue, not BlueGPS!
gps2blue is free, and will do what is desired here.

Is this program only for PDA or is there possibility for Andoid device...
I like to sync my Diamond with my Vista-computer and " Center for Windows Mobile devices" through Bluetooth.
I have a working connection with USB already, but want to skip the cable.
I can pair the computer with my Diamond but the only services I get on the Diamond is "wireless stereo" and "serial port".
Been trying to read every instruction on both the bluetooth connection in Vista and on the Diamond but it seems I cant get the service-choice I need to be able to sync my outlook and so on.
Any suggestions on how to get my bluetooth connection working?

It's specifically for the Toshiba bluetooth stack and it works if you follow the instructions carefully. If you're not using the Toshiba stack, I think it should still give you sufficient clues to configure the bluetooth ports to work with activesync.

Thanks for the link but when I get to page 11 step 16 in the pdf it says you should get wireless stereo and Active sync. I get wireless stereo and serial port as my choices.
Don´t know if that´s because I use Vista and Center for Windows Mobile Devices (The new version that has replaced Active sync in Vista and that should make it soooooo easy to connect mobile devices instead of Active Sync.
I'm guessing you're using the default Microsoft Bluetooth stack with Vista? If so, ActiveSync should be available when you pair your phone with your PC. If not, check the Services tab for the phone in Vista's BT manager applet, it may need to be ticked in there.
I use BlueTooth with WMDC all the time with my Diamond and it was as simple as pairing then going into ActiveSync on the phone and selecting Connect via Bluetooth.
I´m not sure what bluetooth stack I´m using. I think it´s Toshibas but how can I check that?
I had to install Toshibas application to get the drivers for my bluetooth device and I think a got the stack at the same time.
Is there a way to shift stack if I use Toshibas instead of Vistas default?
Please take a look at the attachement to see my gui for bluetooth, and the Center for MobileDevices (Instead of Active sync) on my Vista machine, and what happens when I connect my Diamond through Bluetooth. Sorry about the language but it tries to install the Diamond as a Bluetooth modem and that´s the only thing I seems to be able to install.

This is not free, but I guess you can try the trial version. In the windows mobile client you can use activesync as output and connect your phone to your computer. gpsgate should work on your computer after some configuration, I don't have full details but you can read at the above link.
I use gpsgate on my phone but I did not try on my computer.
I actually ordered a usb GPS 'dongle' and it's about the size of a USB flash drive or a BT dongle. I originally planned on taking it apart and hardwiring it into the motherboard of my laptop, but I think i'm going to hold off on it. Might make a good alternative to using the BT on your phone for GPS though.
There is a free app called GPS2BLUE (I think) that can send GPS data to your laptop through BT. I never test it, but as I remember, this was what it was made for.

I'm trying to get GPS2Blue to work and managed to get a connection between my Kaiser and my desktop (with a dongle using the Toshiba Bluetooth stack) by creating an outgoing port on the Kaiser (start-settings-connections-bluetooth-com ports-new outgoing port-DESKTOP-next).
I am successfully paired with a Lenovo T61 using the internal bluetooth with a broadcom stack (Vista Bunsiness x64), but while the Desktop advertises 'Serial Port' and 'ActiveSync' as bluetooth services, the T61 stack only advertises 'ActiveSync' 'Wireless Stereo' and 'Headset'. As a result, I can't add an outgoing port to the laptop and GPS2Blue doesn't work.
Does anyone know how to tell the broadcom stack to tell the kaiser that it has SPP (Serial Port Profile) available for it? Using GPS2Blue over TCP/IP is not an option because the virtual com port driver currently doesn't support Vista x64.
This has been bugging me for a loooong time, I'd really appreciate any help with this. Thanks!

OK, 2 things.
Firstly, GPS2Blue doesn't need an Outgoing port on the Kaiser, but an Incoming one. Then, you discover services on the phone, from the PC, and you'll have a serial port you should connect to. Not the other way around like you were saying. Now, WM6/6.1 don't let the user set an incoming port from the BT configuration page anymore, so a manual registry edit is necessary. Attached is a .reg file that will set an incoming port on COM6.
Apply this, soft reset. Then run GPS2Blue, set it to use COM6, discover services from the PC, connect to the serial port, and connect to whatever serial port the stack maps it on the PC with your GPS program.
Secondly (but now unrelated!), if from the phone you'd like to see a serial port on the PC, there are 2 solutions. Firstly look for an "add new seral port" option in your BT stack on the PC, some support multiple ones.
If there's none, you should open activesync connection page, disable serial connection. On the Phone the Arcivesync entry will now revert to serial port. To have AS again, reenable the COM port connection in AS.
Thanks a lot! That worked like a charm. After Vista with the Broadcom stack forced the use of COM9, I changed it manually to COM5 in the device manager (For reference of other people wanting to do this: Device Manager / Ports (COM & LPT) / Standard Serial over Bluetooth link (COMn) / Right Click / Properties / Port Settings / Advanced / COM Port Number), since some software (like MeHere) only supports up to COM8.
Now everything works like a charm on my laptop.
Note that this weirdly enough also works with an Outgoing port on the Kaiser if you have a stack (on your PC) which broadcasts the availability of an incoming serial port (in which case the Kaiser initiates the connection, not the PC, and the COM Port sends regardless of whether something is connected or not...). Not that I'm recommending this route to anyone, but I got this working on the Toshiba stack.
Anyway, thanks a lot again, it's finally working perfectly with OziExplorer, MeHere, Google Earth.... you name it.

Arrrrgggg! I am so close. The incoming BT port bit helped me to get connected but, although GPS2Blue is gettting a lock, and I appear to be connected to EarthBridge/PC, the GPS data doesn't appear to be transmitted to Earthbridge/PC. Google Earth keeps putting me off the coast of Africa instead of south Florida.
I'm about ready to go pickup a copy of Streets & Trips with GPS.

Loaded the appropriate reg values...nothing. Still doesn't work. I can't see the port on the PC or Handheld under "Bluetooth Services".

Did you get it to work with many apps? I remember one time I managed to get it set (don't know how, can't reproduce my semi-success) so I could share the ActiveSync port and in Windows I could open the COM port on PuTTY to see the NEMA output but only a couple apps recognized that there was a GPS there -- the main thing I wanted to work (inSSIDer) couldn't see any GPS.
I'd definately be interested if you came up with a reliable way to make it work.

I saw your post @ metageek forums, because I too am unable to make it work with either version of inSSIDer, although Netstumbler saw it nice and easy. Thing is: I have Vista, and Netstumbler doesn't like Vista like me
I'm gonna get a XP lappy tomorrow which battery only works for half an hour but hey, it's a start

Good luck, XP is out of the question for me because HP doesn't provide Bluetooth drivers back to before Vista. Maybe I can find a way to forward the COM port and a USB WiFi adapter through VirtualBox and use XP that way...though I've been unsuccessful with either of those so far.
Actually you can forward the USB device to Oracle's Virtualbox, I have my TP-Lnk USB WiFi forwarding into a linux virtual machine working perfectly in monitor mode with kismet and aircrack I don't think you can forward COM ports tho, but if you have an external USB bluetooth adapter you can also forward it into XP!! Will try that asap!
Thing is, I wanted to use the onboard wireless because it's way more sensitive than the external USB adapter, but it's not possible to forward it inside a virtualbox.

I got bad news and good news.

The USB forwarding of my wireless card works under Linux but FAILS under a XP VM!!! %$#*@#!"#
Good news:
Downloaded Franson GpsGate trial and now inSSIDer is working !!!!
In my old iPaq days I used an application called GPSGate that would allow me to use the GPS of my iPaq 6515 as an external GPS via USB or Bluetooth and connect to my laptop.
The NMEA data would then stream to the laptop and voila, GPS data on the lappie.
I have searched and hunted and cannot seem to find an equivalent app for the Android envionment, anyone seen one...?
I also searched for this one month's ago but also couldn't find anything. hope someone here knows.

SO far I have found two apps that MAYwith work be able to work.
BlueNMEA which is supposed to pass the NMEA GPS data via Bluetooth from N1 to the computer.
So far I get it running, seems to be pulling data, can set up a BT connection but I simply can't get the PC to "see" the COM 3 port and data.
Not sure if the issue is with the app or with the BT stack implementation on Android
GPS Tether
This one sets up a GPSD process running on the N1 and is supposedly useable via USB and ADB and port forwarding.
I have tried it a slightly different way which is tantalizingly close to working. I have set up the N1 with WiFi terhering on and associate the PC with it. Once up and running I can run a terminal session via IP and can connect to the port but it still has problems with passing data.
All these have been tried with a Win7 box so I am going to see if a Ubuntu box may have different results.......
