Hard spl .. charging issue - XPERIA X1 ROM Development

Since i've had the hard spl done for my x1 , I've noticed the following :
- phone indicate thet it's charging while plugged to either usb or AC , but it doesn't actually charge. ( light's flash , and the icon in the top of screen shows it's plugged in )
-I've removed re- insterted the battery , but nothing changes
- i've checked/unchecked the USB charging , in the power options and nothing happens for both the usb and the AC . "ie. indicates charging while not"
- battery charges normally on an external charger , and changing the battery didn't fix the problem .
-tried to hard-spl again while the charger is on , but again didn't fix it
-tried multiple caples , and two different AC chargers
_____ to cut this short , i just wanted to ask , if the hard spl could have caused this ( i mean could it be a software thing) , and if it is a software thing would returning to the stock spl fix the problem ( i know that the hardspl is write protected thought ) .
and sorry but one more question, is there a way to indicate weither the problem is a software or a hardware problem ... Hope that you can help guys , as taking the battery in and out sucks , it is a small matter but you won't feel it unless you try it , it SUCKS

by the way the phone will not charge while turned off aswell

When you say external charger, do you mean a charger seperate from the X1 itself? Just needed clearification.
What Hard SPL did you use and do you have a X1a or X1i?

What i meant by an external charger is " a charger that charges the battery seperatlly , you remove the battery out of the phone and place it in the charger " ( hope you get what i mean )
my phone is X1i
I've used Olinex X1_HardSPL_v1
Hope that this helps , lemme know if you need to know anything else , my exams are too soon , and i'm so pissed off , the problem is that i've bought this phone somewhere in the middle east ( where i used to live ) , and i'm currently in ireland ( they didn't even start selling the phone here ) so if i can't fix it , no one can .

Could it be something to do with the battery driver ! .. but if that was the case " how do ppc charge while turned off !!"

1 try usb charge
2 get phone serviced

The usb charge didn't work .. and as i mentioned above i can't get the phone serviced here in ireland since the phone didn't arrive yet , I won't head back to the middle east untill may/june .. I willing to even donate to whoever get me through this thing .. I know that there is someone out there who's able to find a solution ... yet still waiting for that someone

seems that your recharge circuit is broken... maybe a coincidence with hardspl procedure, I never seen hardspl damaging a phone this way
just in case, did you tried to reflash your original spl?

nevered backed-up my orginal spl ... software wize, all that i've done , is doing the hard spl with the ruusigned_072stockspl fil .. in an attempt to get things back to normal ( doesn't make sence though ) . flashed with multiple roms ( UK, US , TW , Touch , jacks and others ) .. what do you recommend ?

I just noticed the same problem.
Wall charger works, but when connected to computer with usb, it won't charge. The charging icon blinks in the upper right corner, but no charging.
Just flash the hard-spl, and a cooked ROM.
Any idea?
Hardware or software problem?
X1a from Rogers.
Thanks

I had the Standby of Death SOD this is when the phone fails to come out of standby with a power button press. This issue only affects some people on some networks. I'm not sure if its a network problem or a software problem but as only a minority of people have it, I suspect its mainly a network problem there is a software solution.
The solution is to change the phone settings band option from auto 3G/2G to either 3G Only (WCDMA + UTMS 2100 in Europe) or 2G Only (GSM + AUTO) depending on your requirements.
Also read this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=540943&highlight=standby&page=2 where the resolution was to get a new SIM.
Obviously this only solves the problem when the crash is because of the sim and/or settings which impact the sim. To rule out a software cause its best to start with a hard reset.

I had the same thing..my phone would not charge in any way...but a few days later..it kinda fixed itself...

hmmm strange i had it too...
left phone charging over night and when i woke up phone was dead?
when i plugged it in it had the red led lit on the power button
luckily after 30 mins of charging via wall charger phone booted up again...
now i'm realising how slow USB charging is...
but phone has somehow fixed itself? havent had issues since...

rom update with dead battery: possible

I allmost died today of a heartattack...well...nah...but got a big scare...my battery died in the middle of a rom update...then started a cicle of restarts to the bootloader screen (BTW, is normal when the device enter a restarting cicle if the batery is to low or my battery or device have a problem?)...i was really worried and i had no access to the wall ac adapter for at least 4 hours...so...what i did? read on several sites...look at de device...the battery...and got an idea: i cut a usb cable and used the red and black cables on the red and black marked in the battery but in the contacts in the wizard...if u look ur battery it have a red + and a black -...it didnt worked (cutted cable connected to one usb for energy and other cable connected to another usb for the data)...so i had another idea! with the cables doing contact in their right places and being really carefull to dont touch other contact i put the battery in place...it worked like a charm...apparently the device "talks" with the battery to check if it is really there i guess...the thing is that i did the rom update with an empty battery...
I really dont know why in such a nice device they didnt thinked in a better way to manage the energy, i mean cmon, if the device is connected the battery has to be charging, no matter if the thing is on, off, loading, in bootload, etc...(the thing is...with a low battery and a broken rom u end in the bootloader in a device that is not charging the battery and restarting because the battery is down, a really really dumb way to manage energy) at least some stupìd engineer have to include the "charge the battery" code into the bootloader or at least some sort of "use external energy" or something like that...
My english is not so good, so please ask anything u dont understand...ill try using other words...
it's dangerous...
you might harm the batt with overcurrent
it needs to use a batt charger instead
The only danger is to touch the wrong contact in the battery connector, but overcurrent? nah, remember that u r taking energy from an usb port...the same port that feed the device with the standard cable...in any case is a workaround to be used in extreme cases...and never leave the device unattended or connected for hours!

What an excellent piece of problem solving! My Wizard had got stuck on a Bootloader screen with a bad battery during a ROM flash! The battery had suddenly given up and a got a communication error. I was stuck with a phone that had no ROM and no means of recharging. The battery will not charge if the Wizard is stuck in Bootloader. I took your advice and ten minutes later installed the new ROM using one USB lead for data and the other 'chopped' one to supply current directly to the + and - contacts inside the battery compartment. I had previously tried the same thing and couldn't understand why I had no luck. I then read your 4 year old post about also putting the battery in place (obviously the other contacts need to be there to complete internal circuits). Brilliant, good thinking and I'm sure this technique would work for other models. Many thanks.

Problem with startup 6515 - need advice

Chaps
Yesterday my 6515 stopped cooperate with me! Totally!
- I didn't dropped him or physically damaged,
- The battery was charged in 85% just before it was switched off itself
- Back cover closed with no gaps between cover and body
- Was fully functional when suddenly switched off
- I didn't upgraded anythihng before.
Symptoms:
- Ipaq is not reacting on start button
- Not reacting on reset
- Not reacting on hard reset
- The left diode blinking red during charging via usb cradle when I’m pressing power up button
- The same happens with regular charger
- During charging with regular charger when I’m opening the back panel the diode stop blink and become flash continuously in red.
I have already tried almost everything to start it up:
Changed the battery,
Open, close the back battery panel
With and without SD card
Appreciate any HELP!
small update
Ok I have made some progress..
Now I can see the bootloader screen and that's it.
What to do next ???
Im not sure what blinking red means but when you remove the backcover, the red led will lite up.
Try to do a hard reset, and see if it restarts without going to bootloader. Otherwise, you will probably need to upgrade the firmware from the bootloader screen. Download the latest rom updates from hp.

Indeed! When I opened back cover the led become flash continuously!
I have tried to apply the rom update from HP unfortunately all of the updates have to be done through Active sync!
It is impossible in current situation because of pressing Power+Joystick+Reset the ootloader screen appear but then nothing This is happens only when PDA is charging with regular charger. Using USB charge or battery power I can't even start the bootloader screen.
From where can I download the SD bootable image or how to make it?
And again small step ahead:
Hi
And again small step ahead:
In craddle there is another input for power so I managed to power it up and connect.
I had to switch of firewall (otherwise i have error 601 - unable to connect the device or something simmillar) and reinstall Active sync back to 3.8
Got bootloader screen USB and hp logo and v 021
by running romupdate utility downloaded from hp site ( whatever the version is ) I finally recognized my model version: it is 6515c
Next
Found valid version from HP site for 6515c ( i think 1.21) and successfully upgraded. No breaks, no other issues just successfully uploadede into finish.
Then hard reset and......
The system starts, screen flashes up, system start loading and the screen fading out. ... and again ..... and again ...... and again and the nothing!
I have tried again to pull out back cover, remove batery, put it back after some time, place back the cover and again.
Nothin' Nada Null %$#@%!$#ing piece of junk.
BTW it is happening only where PDA it is connected to AC power. On battery system is not booting, no booloader nothing!
Any suggestions? Pleeeeeeeease!
After you upgraded the firmware and it started up, was this done with the pda on AC or battery power? If its on battery and it starts fading, your battery is probably screwed. Did you also know there are 2 batteries in the IPaq?
Oh and if its a battery problem, you will need to leave the battery+pda connected to the AC for a while before it can startup and probably into booloader. Run your firmware upgrade again and power it on with the AC connected! If it boots up fine, then monitor the battery status bars in the Power settings and see if both the LiIon and NiMh batteries are holding charge. Hopefully from here you can find a dead battery.
Another thing you could try is to reset the battery when in bootloader mode once you are certain its the battery
http://blogs.unbolt.net/index.php/brinley/2006/08/02/howto_reset_discharged_battery_for_ipaq_6515
Battery reset? Could might be the issue?
Hi
I really appreciate your response.
The whole upgrade and the other stuff have been done with inserted battery and AC connected.
I plugged the PDA into the cradle which was connected to PC via USB and I plugged also AC into the cradle AC input.
It is fading just after reboot only when the iPAQ is connected to AC power (of course battery is inserted otherwise it will not startup anyway.)
On pure battery power it doesn’t giving any signs of living whatever button has been pressed.
The link you provided might contain very valuable directions to me. The man is learning within whole life and dying still being stupid.
I thought that I read the info from the site you suggested but I probably missed the meaning of the post regarding battery reset. That might be this. I will check and update you very soon.
I did the steps from above link. The iPAQ rebooted, started to load the os and again faded out….
Question to everybody:
During bootloader screen appear should I have any diode flashing blinking or whatever
I’m asking because of mine is blind!
Nothing is flashing, blinking, beaming or shining. Just two, completely dead diodes.
Hi, I've just found out what flashing red means
"green blinking means GSM coverage, yellow blinking - missed reminder or alarm clock signal, permanent yellow - recharging, green - the battery is full, red blinking means greatly discharged battery, pale blue blinking - Bluetooth is on"
I think one of your batteries is dead, and if you have already replaced to LiIon battery then you'll probably have to try to replace the NiMh one inside. I cant think of anything else to try
Battery????
Damn!
I think I have a hardware problem! I have 2 batteries: one brand new and the old one. Both not working! Moreover they're not charging! They suppose to charge when I put PDA into the craddle or directly plug to AC charger but they aren't.
No diode is flashing during charging. Damn.
I will try to borrow one battery from one of my friend just to check if this is it!
I will let you know later on.
If I recall correctly, the charging led does not light up in bootloader mode. I maybe wrong though. I think you should try to check the voltage in the LiIon battery to determine if they are being charged.
Also you never mentioned checking the backup NiMh battery. I believe that the NiMh battery is required to power up of the ipaq as well so it may be the cause of your ipaq dying after starting up.
NiMh backup battery
Fortunately I know someone who can charge the battery for me. There will be no problem with that.
From the other side I'm worry about the phone charging....
Why I can't charge the battery using iPAQ?
Next you mentioned about "NiMh battery". I'm sorry for my ignorance but what is that?
Is it secondary battery ?????
Is there any way to charge or replace it? Is it pluggable battery? Where is located?
Yes there is a secondary battery. However, I do not know where it is either.
Here is an example from a different PDA

If you want to open up your IPAQ do it at your OWN RISK!

Commadnnos,
Sound like your 6515 has battery charging problem. If the charging failed, even you have brand new battery, it won't be charged at all.
Since you have two batteries, you might want to buy a external battery charger to prove those two batteries are good.
I think the charge circuit is in the second PCB board which under the keyboard inside your 6515; if those batteries are good, you might want to buy a dead 6515 and replace it by yourself...
Cheers,

Well Well Well ..... it is getting wormer. Many thanks to everyone who are still trying to help me out. Thanks again.
Is that mean the secondary battery is located under the keyboard? I saw the photos from unassembled 6515 and it looks like the secondary battery. To replace it you have to first remove 3 screws, unplug the LCD and remove whole main board.
Is that means that the charging circuit has been built in the keyboard plate?
Thank You all. Patient died......
I would like to thank everyone for help. I think we can close this thread over here.
My beetle just went out into the "digital heaven".
The HP support specialist ensured me (without any tips or hints from my side) that mainly there is a problem with passing the power from the charger to the battery which means no more no less like ".... dude your motherboard is screwed. You have to get the new one or whatever...!"
So now it is a time for selling the rest of the parts on auctions......
R.I.P (Rust In Peace)
if the red light blinks
1 your battery has problem
or
2 your battery cover has problem. The plastic part on the back of your battery cover may have broken which touchs the microswith on the mainboard.
if that microswitch is not triggered , the hw65xx,hw69xx will not turn on.

MY HTC diamond does not switch on neither does it charge.....please help :(

Hi, I have been using my HTC diamond toch for nearly 2 1/2 months. a few days ago, i did a rom update using Dutty's rom update. All went fine duing the update. used the phone for about 5 days nonstop, no issues at all.
But yesterday all of a sudden the phone has swtiched off by itself, now it doesn't switch on. Thought the battery might be dead so i tried charging but the enter buttton area doesnt glow and there is no sign of charging.
I switched batteries with a friend to see whether it was faulty but it is in good condition.
What do u think the issue will be ?
Thanks
Buddhi.
I have the same problem. I've just got my phone back from being repaired as the touch screen got all messed up and now it won't charge. I plug it in and the touch pad does the charge animation twice then stops. It'll randomly try to turn on but it doesn't even get to the point where the red writing apears before it turns off again.
Help?!
same problem here
Dudes.... Chill!!!!
Here's what you can all try ....
First you guys need to know that de HTC does not charge if the rom is inconplete/damaged .
And.....
If your batery is realy dead there is no initial power on the internal battery to manage the chargement.
So ... resolution.
Fist way .
If you know any one that may have an other HTC Diamond you need to swamp batteries so the good Diamond that has the internal bat ok and charge it there.
Second way . this one i did it my self .
Go to a Local ChinaMan store and buy a multimeter and a regular Universal Adapter.
Heres how it hoes ...
Use the Multimeter do figure out the polarity pin's on the battery ex: + and - .
remove / cut one of the plug's from the Universal transformer and also tag the polarity.
set the voltage to be close to 5 V - 1 Amp .
Can be 4,5v or 5.5v no sweat
Conect the cuted wire from the Univ. Adapter to the Diamond Battery respecting the polarity.
Leave it for a wile..... ( Probably up to 1 hour but chec from time to time tme battery temperature and if possible a reading on the bat voltage levels.)
Done!
Put the battery bat and boot your diamond or turn on to boot loader.
**** Attention if you don't have more than 50% of the bat charge compleated you wont be able to flash your phone****
Any questions Just reply back.
same problem...
its just...my battery was full before the upgrading...i was Unlocking my Diamond..and the upgrade didnt move more than 0% just when i looked on my mobile...there was black screnn...pluged it out..tried to power on..nothing..tried to charge...nothing again..i tried hard reset(vol down+power+back+reset)..it just wont turn on..please help me..im in panic
Help, I have the same problem and my battery was fully charged before this happened. Voltage reading is 4.2V on the battery.
I also tested the power button and there is nothing wrong with it, it conducts when pushed.
Usually pluging in the charger should start it up, but it will not start.
Anyone have any solutions?
I couldn't fix mine so phones 4 u replaced it with a touch hd

I had the same exact problem two days ago.The phone was not charging while it was on,and when it was off it did that charging light animation twice and then third time the litght managed to get in the middle of the button and sudennly stopped. So here is my solution . I'v managed to charge the battery on another phone and turned my Diamond back on. While still attached to charger and power source i'v performed a soft reset (by pressing the reset button beneath the stilus) ...the phone reseted and now it's all ok.

[Q] tytn ii battery issue

hi guys,
when i power on my kaiser (with the stock rom) and the phone gets to the welcome screen i can hear a dead battery sound and the phone powers itself off. tried hard reset, flashing a new rom, changing radio, buying a new battery, charging battery using charger wires..nothing seems to work . If i flash a new rom like wm 6.5 the phone shows me radio version, protocol version and rom version ( R G D ), the light dim's and the phone shuts down.
when i connect the charger a yellow led turns on..i left the phone charging for one whole day but the light is still yellow
any solutions? thanx in advance
go look for the exe file called powerdetect.exe this is a small program listed in the TytN II service manual that is used to check the battrey health. I suspect the batt needs to be replaced.
the battery is ok. i've tried with several batteries and the result is the same
What charger are you using? Motorola v9 charger wont do. I had similar power off issue when starting up a unused unit. Only able to charge with original charger 5v 1000ma. OR try charging it through the PC USB port. If you have a notebook, just leave it in sleep mode for overnight charging
I've got a similar problem but usually when i make or accept calls the phone switches off
My phone is a Kaiser 130 which runs on 5 volts but the battery i got with it (bought it on ebay) is Kais 160 which runs at 3.7 volts???? Also the mains charger i got with phone is a 5v.
I just did a power test using the program below till the battery was dead and then plugged into my laptop to recharge and within 2 mins battery is up to 72%???
can anyone who has a Kaiser 130 from new tell me the original battery voltage and code please
power detect download is here if anyone wants to download

every kaiser has a 3.7 volts battery..are you sure the phone turns off when you make or receive a call? My guess is that only the screen turns off (sleep mode - same as pressing the red button) because your ear can touch the screen and acces random menus etc

are you sure? ..'cause i spent a lot of money on a new original battery later to find out that the problem isn't from my battery..don't want to do the same with the flex cable..i found one around 40 €
which flex cable are you talking about? Do you have a second unit that you can do a part swap to see if it is actually the cable issue?

I have the same issue... .-(
The phone just switches off completely with any hint of longer usage (phone call longer than 1 min or so, garmin mobile xt barely makes to searching of satellites). I use original stock ROM.
Unused (no phone calls) it can last for two days. I have tested it with brand new/unused prepaid sim.
I took it to authorized HTC service center, but unfortunately they do not support it any more due to lack of parts.
Anybody else have this issue? Or clue to what might be wrong. I really love this phone…

ok..so i disconnected the flex cable from the mainboard and I connected the speaker and the battery. I powered on the phone, waited for like 30 seconds and i heard the dead battery sound..could it be a short-circuit on the mainboard or this is normal?

Hi,
I have the same problem. Do you know how to fix it?
Tks,
Tonny
Same / Similar Problem
I have the same (or at least quite similar) problem here. Only with me, I think it's the micro USB port that needs changing. There is two visible cracks which maybe stopping the flow of electricity.
When I plug it into a charger, either wall or to my PC, it turns on fine, and can stay on aslong as it's plugged in. (sort of makes it like a desktop then, doesn't it ). The problem is that it doesn't charge.
I am using ahmed fikry's 6.5 Kaiser ROM but do not seem to have had any problem with it so far. I also run Ubuntu and Android through HaRet.
replacing the flex cable worked for me..i found one at about 30€. Hope this helps

[Q] Phone only boots when it is connected to a power source

A friend of mine accidently ran over the cable when I was charging my phone. For sure the phone fell on the floor and also the battery dropped out. Since then, the SGS only starts if it is connected to a power source. It's futile if the USB-Cable isn't connected to a PC or a socket (alternatively, I'm able to restart the phone out of the Power Menu). Without the connection, only the battery charge symbol appears for a second when I try to boot the phone or get into Recovery-/Downloadmode.
I've wiped the Battery Stats as well as tried it with another battery - bootless. I just hope it's not a hardware damage
I have this same problem, but i can go easy to download mode, i try everything and i dont know what i need to do, but i see one, On GB i dont have this problem I mean official GB kernel, bcz on Kernels based on froyo like cm7, i have the charing icon on boot i dont know what i have to do.. maybe someone know?
This question has from memory been asked before .
A search may provide the answer .
Probably worth taking to a service centre .

Try cleaning the battery contact points and re seat the battery correctly. It might work.
Problem solved
Apparently it actually was a software problem. I've upgraded my ROM with wipe, and after that I charged the phone completely when it was off. Now I can start the SGS without problems. So, I don't know what exactly solved the issue, but at least it functions again.
