[Q]3Q's: GSen; close apps; compose SMS - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV General

Hi folks,
I have gathered a few questions you might be able to help me with.
Using: O2 XDA Diamond, Olinex 2.4 unsigned, Radio 1.09.25.23, Panosha Simple 1.1, the usual tweaks
1)
GSen. It might be useful to some, but I just don't need this flipping anytime I move the device. I renamed the gsen.exe to prevent it from being loaded on startup. This works, but I get a nasty error message, of course. That doesn't bother me, but I'd still like to know if there's a more elegant solution to this, like a registry entry disabling GSen altogether.
2)
Is there a way to make pressing the little "cross" button (top right corner in most apps) close applications instead of minimizing it? To finally kill a program I have to use the task manager. Any idea how to add a little more power to this button?
3)
About composing messages: Entering a name in a new message used to make the corresponding contact entries popup in formerly used ROMs. That's no more. I now have to open the adress book, choose a contact and select "Send Text Message". How can I get the lost feature back?
Regards,
ziphi

Not sure about 1 & 3, but for 2 unless it's been altered in the ROM your using, goto Start>Settings>System>Task Manager>Button, you can change the action the small cross does.

Thanks,
but this seems to have been changed in Panoshas ROM, there's no "task manager" option in the settings.
Anyone else got an idea?

Managed to solve problem No. 1)
Deleted shortcut file for GSen in /windows/startup/
Problem No. 3 is what disturbs me the most, now. Any ideas?

Remap Soft Keys on the Kaiser

Hi folks,
Is there a way to remap the soft keys on the Kaiser?
I am sure there is; I would appreciate it if someone explained to me how.
I had to uninstall Pocket Informant and I can't access the original Calendar app on the left soft key!!!
Many thanks,
MAC

SoftKey Changer
There you go.. Install, soft reset, and its under Start -> Settings -> System
I gave it a try but my expectations were that would be what that soft key would be no matter what program I'm in, but that is not the case. I guess I'll use somethign else like AE Button to get teh keys I want.
Thanks for the post though.
[EDIT]
By the way, after uninstalling, the button assignments remain. Interesting.
Yep use AE Button. It's an amazing tool! Although be careful what you change as it can mess up your device used carelessly.

Thanks very much. I will give this a try.
In the meantime I had to restore a previous version from SPB Backup and this got sorted. I have decided not to re-install Pocket Informant 8 as it caused some isues with ringtones and performance.
I put this on my HTC Tilt and it works awesome, exactly what i was looking for to change the two soft keys.
Hi there, hope everyone is well.
I installed the softkey changer cab , and it seemed to install fine. I was able to find it under settings with no problem and set the left softket to 'new sms'. However when I try to actualy use this from the homescreen i get an error message saying:
"The file 'tnsms' cannot be opened. Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate, or one of its components could not be found. If the problem persists try reinstalling or restoring this file."
I have tried reinstalling, but got the same problem. I can still send an sms if I go through contacts, or messaging, but would love to have this as a working softkey as it tends to be the function I use the most.
Other than installing google maps and opera mini, there have been no changes made since I received the phone a few days ago. It is a standard HTC tytn II.
I'm completely new to this, and any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks, James.

This helped:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=357163
Essentially, change the value of the key to /Windows/(your SMS program)
Mine was tmail.exe.
Now I wonder... how do I not go to the messages screen and go directly to a new SMS?
I'm having the same problem on a Tilt.

Thanks for the advice, I will probably give that a go when I've stopped being so scared of changing registry stuff.
I did find another app that does the trick though. Just make sure you add a shortcut to 'new sms' first (bottom option of the config screen), you should then be able to assign this to either softkey.
Works for me, and I'm able to go straight to a new sms from the homescreen.
Hope it helps, all the best.

MyFaves application supressing MISSED CALLS!

After sleuthing through the forum archives I have finally found out why I have not been getting missed call notifications on my phone. The MyFaves collection of programs (I do not know which one) are recording the missed calls in their own log, not the one that the phone uses to give notifications. I am using ultimate launcher and the Myfaves Today-plugin is hidden.
The problem:
When contacts on the "myfaves list" call and get missed, there is ONLY a notification on the myfaves application. If the today plugin for myfaves is disabled you will only be able to see that you've missed a call by looking at your call history.
The suggested solutions:
1) Many have suggested removing "list" from HKLM/security/phones/nolog registry.
What happens to me is that the list file is regenerated every soft-reset!!
2) I have used the deletemy5messagecenter.cab.
The cab, they do nothing. All it did was make my5msgcenter unrecognizable.
3)Flash the wing with any ROM not containing myfaves
Maybe some other time
My own questions:
1) How do I permanently remove 'List'?
2)Is there a way to remove My5App.exe, My5MsgCenter.exe, My5Service.exe from my windows folder? They are always checked as "read only" and "system" files.
Thanks for your help!
Yeah, MyFaves can be managed through my-tmobile.com, and I'd really rather not having the app on my Wing. Many times when I press the Talk button twice (to dial the last person I called) it will dial the last Fave I called... not cool.
I'll prob end up flashing a custom ROM onto my Wing eventually, but if there's an easy way to get rid of MyFaves in the mean time, that would be great.
NS
I found this reg edit in a thread here of people who wanted to use for non-myfave plans.
HKLM > SOFTWARE > HTC > My5 > SMSC > CmdGet > StateRequest
Open value ClientService and change the value from 1 to 0
The above steps work for a while but then the same issue started up even with the myafve app disabled so I tried fooling around with the other settings within the myfave reg sections but they restored to the default setting after a reset & the same problems continued. I finally restored my phone from a back I had & disabled it again. After that everything was in place but I found at the start of my current bill cycle I got a ota that set the myfave display back on my phone. I had to enable it & turn the display off & disable it all over again. So far all my calls are being logged with the custom tones I have in place.
1. Install a custom ROM.
2. Install HTCHome if it's not in the ROM you chose.
3. Setup HTCHome to handle your "top 5".
4. Use tmobile's site or call in to change the top five when you have to.
Now you have your problem fixed and oodles of more free RAM, storage space and a much faster device.
Hmmmm... it does seem like the only way is to install a custom ROM on there. This is because the software is self regenerating. Too bad... I guess the reason I couldn't find an answer is because this problem doesn't exist because everyone has custom roms.

Well... under hklm/services disable the SMSC something or other...
Then under \windows\startup items, rename the my5 item. Powercycle then delete the item. That should disable it from turning itself on. A custom ROM will always be better, though.
If I had two phones, I'd make a video comparison of a stock ROM and a custom ROM...
As far as VGCats go, they do rock, and I haven't gone to his site in a while because I noticed he stopped updating it. What's up with him?
Thanks for the reply my friend. I'll try it out.
Scott from VG cats got busy with his personal life, but he promised regular updates a few weeks ago.
Update:
Okay, So I had already removed the my5 link from my \windows\startup folder. Then I Changed the registry entry at hklm\software\htc\my5\smsc\cmd get\staterequest. I changed value of 1 ==> 0 for "ClientUIOnOff".
After a soft reset The ClientUIOnOff was still set to 0. I no longer had a myfav icon in my today tray.
After calling my phone and initiating a missed call. My phone would still not notify me of a missed call from a fav of mine.
I'm going to try and delete the "list" registry value I mentioned earlier... stay tuned viewers of few.
update to my update:
"list" still returns! oh dear... I'll have to work on this tomorrow. Thanks for everyone's help!
So I went into the registry and went to HKLM > SOFTWARE > HTC > My5. I changed the name of the "My5" folder to "disabled My5" folder. soft-reseted and upon reset I deleted my "list" entry in the registry. Wahlah It worked. A missed call from a myfav was notified by my phone!
Did you remove the SMSC service from the registry? Oh and I forgot, also from the hklm/init

remove left softkey in messaging

Is their anyway to remove the left softkey in messaging? It is set for the "send" command and I am always hitting it instead of the "r" or "t" key and it prematurely sends the message. Please help prevent premature send...
I have often thought of this, but never have dug into it because I always forget how much it bugs me until I've done it again. Let's have a look at the tmail resources & registry, shal we???
I'll see what I can find!
I'm trying to see if I can alter the function w/ a vkey call first, but I think it may be coded into the tmail.exe & that may be beyond my coding abilities.
Edit #1: No dice! I'll have a look at the outres.dll.0409.mui resource.
Edit #2: Nope. Can't do it without some serious knowledge of the poutlook program. You have two options here. The first is to completely kill (Disable) the softkey, or the better idea:

Not the best option but it will have to do for now...I try to keep it tilted when typing and that helps some as the softkeys are hard to reach but somehow I still send it off sometimes. And when I do I usually do it several times in a row.
I reckon a good strong screwdriver should d it.

Duttythroy touch keyboard/HTC touch keyboard

Hi all,
I've finally narrowed down where all my sytem crashes are coming from, and it appears to be my installations of "duttythroy HTC Touch Keyboard" and "HTC Touch Keyboard + Keypad"
Both are installed (HTC one first, then duttythroy), and when I come to type something, the options are there in the pop-up menu ("Touch Keyboard" "Touch Keypad"), however if I select one, the normal keyboard appears and the selected entry jumps back to "Keyboard", so I'm guessing thats because it failed to access/load the touch keyboard?
So I then go to uninstall, and it cannot uninstall either of them, it sits forever with the little spinning icon as it tries to uninstall, eventually failing by either locking the device needing a reset, or by popping up saying it cannot remove the application at this time.
Can anyone provide me manual removal details for this application, I'll need registry, files, etc to remove it as cleanly as I can if possible.
Thanks in advance
I dont know about your system crashes, but the solution to the keyboard and keypad problem is found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=271008
Hiya,
Thanks for that but I don't believe thats the actual issue, as its not between resets that it won't permit me to select the touch keyboard, its actually when I manually select the touch keyboard it cancels that and reverts back.
So, I really need to manually clean/uninstall these applications that appear to have become corrupted somewhere along the way.
That is the actual issue with the keyboard, it wont let you select it at all - if you read back through the post linked above it's not aimed at setting a default selection, it's to make it work at all!
I had the same issue, clicked on either and it would just stay on keyboard and so have many others. Installation of SIPchange sorted it. Maybe then you can rule out this being the problem for your system crashes?
Good luck
Software Keyboard (seems fast)
Try FingertouchPRO, the layout is customizable and so is the keyboard height, I was able to make this as big as fullscreen and also little as I liked.
The cab resides on www.fingertouchpro.com , just click the big CAB button.
There is a movie showing this toy in action, the speed (if it's real) is incredible!

SMS Application Scroll

When I open the Messaging => SMS application on my 8925 tilt (running
WM6) and then i open a message (e.g. the last unread one), the scroll
bar is always WAY far down, such that I can not see the actual
message but only white space. So the first thing I always need to do
after opening a message is scroll up to actually see the message. Most if not all of my SMS are 1 to 4 sentences max, which should not require a scroll bar to begin with...
anyway i have been dealing with it for a while now, but its getting a lil annoying now especially if i try to use the phone in 1 hand..
Does any1 know why this is happening? is there a fix?
Thanks
i think the issue is caused when a certain setting is enabled using KaiserTweak (search for this application on xda and download it)...
i can't recall the exact name of the setting but it was something like "DPAD support in Internet Explorer"...disable that setting and do a soft reset for good measure and i think your sms view will return to normal.
good luck!
Ur da man...that sure seems to have fixed the problem for now...thanks man!
