Carrier? - Touch Diamond2, Pure Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

What carrier is TD2 going to in the US?
T-Moblie, AT&T, Verizon?

For some reason I'm thinking Sprint. For me it will be T-mobile though.... Thank god for unlocked phones.... No 3g for me though... edge works just fine and web browsing will be better with Opera Mobile 7.
I hope At&t and T-mobile get it though. T-mobile needs a nice phone and AT&T.... well they need phones that are better than the Iphone...lol

new and seeking advice

Hello,
I've been reading up on the kaiser for a little while now and think the specs are amazing.
I've been meaning to get a new phone for a while now, upgrade from my samsung e715. I'm thinking about getting the t-mobile wing as a replacement.
I was wondering if this is a feasible idea, I mean, with the possibility of at&t getting the kaiser, should I wait for that to unlock it?
Will T-mobile be getting a nicer/better version of the p4550 when/if there 3G network goes up?
Just seeking some input, and any would be much appreciated. Thank you
Yea... upgrade! WM will be a bit of a shock to you, it's quite different than what you're used to in terms of mobile telephony. The Kaiser would be a great piece of technology for anyone to own, however the price tag may not be everyone's cup of tea. Personally I plan to get an unlocked one for some 800 dollars. ATT may offer it for 500 with 2 year plan. As for unlocking, if you have international travel ahead of you in a near future then I believe there is a SIM unlock solution already. If not, I wouldn't worry about it until you need it unlocked.
oh well i was thinking of buying the at&t 8925 and unlocking and using on t-mobile. I don't know if it will be capable of syncing with T-mobile's 3G when they have it up and running, like what band they use and whatnot.

if i were you i wouldnt get the wing. its too slow, plus on a lot of them theres a memory problems. i used to have t-mobile but when i switched to cingular i found out they're much better and the signal is much better. also you get more minutes for the same price t-mobile offers.
so right now i have a t-mobile sda unlocked for cingular, just waiting for the kaiser. I dont know how long it will take before there is a Kaiser Sim unlock utility, so you can either get an unlocked htc kaiser or the AT&T Tilt (their calling the 8925 that now) and wait for a sim unlock utility.
think it would work on the t-mobile 3g network? on the 1700 band?

fast help please (may be buying a nexxus one)

Sorry for asking for fast help but I may be buying a (used, good shape) Nexxus One (via craigslist) and have an important question.
I have ATT wireless, the old, old "blue sim" ATT wireless (with a grandfathered plan I will not get rid of). Also added "unlimited mmode data plan in time before they cancelled unlimited plans (*this is not the iphone data plan).
I currently use a Nokia E51 (symbian s60v3, wifi, decent reception, works on 3G (and switches to Edge when 3G isn't avail).
I'm looking at a Nexxus One that is unlocked, currently on Tmobile.
Question is: will this nexus one work 100% (3g and edge) on my ATT account?
and/or - Is there anything I can do to make it work? (I'd like to buy it).
I'm just not sure a unlocked Tmobile nexus one is 100% compatible or will work on ATT (or can be made to work).
it's cost is making it risky so I came here in hopes of advice and help.
I hope this is the right forum section.
Any help here is appreciated and thank you very much
You will not get 3G. Only edge. T-Mobile and AT&T use different bands for 3G.
btw: here is a link to info on my Nokia E51 (GSM arena)
gsmarena.com/nokia_e51-2106.php
Am I correct in saying that nexus one has the same bands (3g/edge) as the E51 and should work well for an updated phone?
thanks
Like I said, it depends which Nexus one. The AT&T one will only give 3G on AT&T, and the TMobile one will only give 3G on Tmobile. You can't change it, no way to hack it. If you want 3G, you need the correct version for your network.
I see, and thanks for the reply. i was thinking there is a hack/workaround but there isn't apparently.
Now, is there a like phone which still would fullfill my ATT needs (blue sim plan, 3g/edge modes, wifi capable, etc that I should be looking at...essentially like the nexus one)?
What about the HTC Desire (or is this the sam scenario)?
* again, i just can't leave this grandfathered plan, and I'm not a big iphone fan (enough to make me switch plans that is).
thanks for any advice
I just received a reply from a user on the ATT forums (very well versed with my blue plan and mmode, GSM phones) who stated this...
The Nexus One would be your best choice if you want to use AT&T Mobility's 2G & 3G network (they use 850 & 1900 MHz for both).
Now in regard to this used, unlocked Tmobile nexus it may be unusable for me...
but based on his reply, he seems to be saying an (att) Nexus one should offer the 2g (edge) and 3g band features (which I need).
Are we sure about the 3g or edge but not both in regard to the nexus one?
* got my eye set on a att nexus one (really, first it was the HTC Desire - very similar, but the band support was the concern there with the Desire)
thanks
Yes, that is exactly what I am saying. You are not listening. The Tmobile Nexus One will NOT give you 3G on AT&T.
BUT the AT&T Nexus One WILL give you 3G.
You just need to get the right one. You just need to buy the AT&T compatible Nexus One. Not the Tmobile one.
You need a Nexus One with the AT&T bands. They exist. I have one. A friend of mine is selling his in the CT area.
No, no...i'm listening, but likely not asking the question right.
I understand to get att 3g I need to get the ATT nexus one. Got it.
* And no, I will not be buying this tmobile nexus one thanks to your replies.
What I'm asking is in regard to 2g/edge ability here. Are you saying that a att nexus one will ONLY offer 3G and not offer any 2G/edge capability?
Others are saying it will also offer the 2G/edge capability as well as att's 3G (like with my E51 currently).
* see there are times when att 3G is unavil/spotty and the phone (E51 in my case) switches to 2G/edge. I just wanted to make sure the att nexus one offers this ability.
thanks

Can I inquire about this phone for sale somehow?
I was looking at this tmobile nexus one for $350, decent condition.
I'm very interested in buying an att nexus one (provided it's 100% working and condition isnt too bad).
thanks for replying guys!

My Nexus One with AT&T bands works just like every other 3G AT&T phone. It works on both EDGE and 3G. If you look at the bands it has, there's no reason it wouldn't.
You need an AT&T banded N1 to get both 3G and EDGE.
If you get the T-Mobile version, you will ONLY GET EDGE on AT&T.
That's the difference: the 3G bands are different between the two, but the EDGE bands are the same.

You can email him at t4show at gmail dot com
It's only about a month old. He bought an iPhone 4. Yuck.
thank you, i sent him an email. hopefully it's still for sale.
btw: what about the HTC Desire? issues with this on my ATT network?
http://www.gsmarena.com/htc_desire-3077.php
The desire does not have ATT 3g bands, so you will be stuck on edge. Recently they announced a usa desire which might come with proper 3g, but that phone does not yet exist. So no the desire won't work unless you just want edge.
well, your friend selling his att nexus one stopped replying so I have to assume he's either kept it or selling for a bit more on ebay/etc.
I can bid on a few on ebay that will likely end up being $500+ for slightly used, but can anyone tell me if I can still buy the att 3g version ffor $529 straight from google (as in if I order by this friday)?
or I should also ask: does anyone have an att verision nexus one they're selling?

Sprint + Tmobile merger? What do you think of it?

http://gizmodo.com/5585983/sprint-ceo-sees-logic-in-a-t+mobile-merger
Seems like a great idea to me. I have / love Sprint presently, have had Tmobile in the past and they are my second favorite carrier.
I read that TMobile may go down next year

I've always thought Verizon would swallow Sprint, but I think they wouldn't allow it because Verizon would become a freakin giant.
While I love Tmobile + Sprint, I wonder if it would be the straw that breaks the Camel's back at Sprint. We all know how the Sprint + Nextel thing went... And I doubt Deutsche Telekom would really want to divest... But it does seem that Sprint and Tmobile are in a bad position. I dunno, should be interesting.

If you check the headlines they have been bleeding badly. T-mobile I haven't heard much about though.
sent from my telepathic neurotransmitter.
Would that be possible considering -Mobile is GSM and Sprint CDMA?
Nextel used IDEN, neither GSM OR CDMA. So my answer would be, it wouldn't matter.
(I'm from the UK, so not much real input.. but...)
Much the same as what is happening/happened with the OrangeUK and T-Mobile UK Merger here to make one big parent company, although they are operating still as 2 brands of the parent. Should be fine.

Which gTab? Carrrier thoughts please...

Getting my GF a tablet and have kinda ruled out the Ipad because we both don't like Apple and iTunes. I;m experienced with Android and thats what I want to get her. I bought the NookColor and rooted it and all that, but it's going back. It's just not a viable solution for someone not too technical and wants to just pick something up and use it. Mainly because of the lacking hard buttons and no 3g is really the deal breaker now. The gTab seems perfect because of 3g and simple to use. I thought they were all the same until I started reading and it seems as if Tmobile is a bad idea unless you want unlimited data without a contract. So let me get to the needs: minimal data on a month to month plan. I prefer to pay out front and not be under contract. So which carriers Gtab is for her? Or should I wait for something else? BTW I don't like playing the waiting game because you just end up waiting and waiting. She's perfectly fine using a device for years where as I need the latest, greatest.
Thanks in advance.

I guess any of ATT or tmobile will be good. Because if u want to resale it (after few month ) you can unlock it and sell it on nice price and also gsm is acceptable in other countries too. can be used to make calls and receive calls too(dont know about sprint and verizon cdma tabs).
I guess tmobile plans are cheaper than att.
I have tmobile but i dont have data plan because i dont need it. I bought my on local craiglist.
For light no contract 3G, I think AT&T is the cheapest easy option at $15/mo.
The AT&T GT also has the "option" of easy unlocking, then getting a Tmo prepaid SIM and using Tmo's DayPass for $1.50/day, EDGE only, but for very light, day by day, its a cheap alternative.
NB you cannot do that with a Tmo GT since Tmo has blocked its own GT's from using the prepaid DayPass.
Another fringe idea is Sprint's GT, hacked to run on Boost Mobile, $0.35/day for data, but far more complicated to do the hacking.
Do not get the Verizon tab under any circumstances.
At&t will let you have the complete tab and phone experience. And it travels overseas better.
While I have and love the AT&T Tab, I'll throw a wrench in here and say that Spacemoose is going to bat for the CDMA Tabs with HC! I'd give the edge to GSM, but not a big deal as I use mine with Wi-Fi only.

please amplify... why not?
- not GSM, no ROMs? no SIMs? no int'l usage?
- no 2.3.4 update unlike Sprint?
what else?

- No GB upgrade -- and knowing VZ, it will be practically never when we get it
- CDMA generally behind the GSM curve in terms of carrier upgrades
- More development on the GSM front

Sure GSM tab is getting more ROMs, but the only official GB upgrade in the US now is Sprint CDMA and that works on Verizon's tab.

[Q] Should an unlocked ATT S4 be as good as Tmobile S4 service?

I talked my wife into switching to Tmobile and gave her my S4 from ATT. Her service is not so good and I'm tired of hearing about it. I've tried different modems from ATT but no real improvement. Anyone have any experience on the subject? Aside from wifi calling, would a phone from Tmobile have the same service?

No, they use different bands. You can use a T-Mobile phone on AT&T just fine but an AT&T phone on T-Mobile will not get you the correct speed connections due to the limited bands AT&T uses. That is why I decided to go with the T-Mobile variant rather then any of the others.
I see. Its a tough one. Att is getting so locked down but tmobiles service is sketchy where I am. I would hate to pay for a new phone when the S4 is running great still. Damn. Thanks for the input.

You could sell the phone and purchase a T-Mobile variant of the same phone to run on AT&T or upgrade to a newer T-Mobile phone. The T-Mobile bands work great on AT&T network, just not the other way around. That's what I have done. I have tried the AT&T and the Verizon phones and they both work good on AT&T but if you want all around compatible phone, then T-Mobile phones are the way to go. Just get the unlock code and throw in any sim you want and set up the APN.
