Problems with MS Exchange in Magic - myTouch 3G, Magic Apps and Games

I am using the native MS Exchange in Magic. However, after keying in all my details, it says authentication failed, please check username and/or password.
I'm pretty I keyed in those details correctly (i re-keyed in many times), but I kept getting the same error message. I have also enabled SSL. Anyone know why?
I have no problems in sync-ing using Roadsync and Touchdown. But these are trial versions only, and will expire soon.
Anyone can help here? Thanks!!

again, have you checked in the Exchange console that you tick the box to allow non-provisionable devices. as far as i know if that is not ticked it will only allow windows mobile devices. but could be wrong
Thanks

Hi brian,
How do you tick the box? Its my company's exchange server, so I need to get my system administrator to do it at his end? Thanks.

You need to ask the IT guys to make the change in Exchange management, under Microsoft Exchange, Organisation Configuration, Client Access then go properties on the default policy. On the Default (Tab) tick to allow non-provisionable devices
This should now work
Thanks

Hi thanks for your help. Unfortunately, my IT guys do not want to check that box for security reasons.

I had the same problem and I performed a couple of factory resets trying different ways of configuring the exchange activesync before figuring out what is going on. What finally worked for me is the following.
When I was entering the necessary fields in the configuration screen (email, server address, user name, password etc.) using the onscreen keyboard, at the end I was pressing the little key at the bottom left of the virtual keyboard to remove it from the screen and then I was pressing the button “next” and I was always getting the message ”authentication failed please check username and/or password”.
When I tried the same thing (filling the fields in the configuration screen) without pressing this little key that removes the virtual keyboard, everything worked perfectly. I did not believe in my eyes and I decided to make again a factory reset and try it again. It worked again….
Hope that this helps

Just tried, but still doesn't work for me.

I had an issue setting up my exchange as well. I previously used a Self-Signed Certificate with my Tytn II but I found no ability to add root certificates to Android.
So first I had to switch my exchange 2007 server to a trusted 3rd party UC Certificate (DomainsforExchange was cheapest and worked). Other oversite on my part (I think I am getting old) was after entering the account info I missed having to tick on (make checkmark red) "This server requires encrypted SSL connection". It is off by default.
I am still not used to the android style of showing a checkbox with tickmark in grey as being disabled.
Thats about it.
Here is a sample of the account information (Fake).
Email Address
[email protected]
Server Address
mail.acme.com (DNS name of my mail server)
Domain
ACME
Username
bboysinbush
Password
%)Migopop
SSL question ticked in RED.

just to add, it won't work with norwegian characters "æøå",
might also apply to other special characters, no idea really...

Push Email question

I just flashed Dutty's Rom and when I am trying to setup Push Email I am being prompted for a "Device Address" which is either a sms address or a "corporate service provider" I've never had to input this information before.
What do i need to input here?
Any help would be appreciated!
how are you setting up "push email ? what app?
I'm suing activesync and my companies OWA site.
What do you mean by setting it up through OWA? I also have push email and the only info I needed were the server address, my username, pass and port settings.
Can you tell me were exactly the question is asked? I also have Dutty's ROM running, and I want to test if I get the same question. That way I might be able to help you.
If you're trying to use OWA on the Kaiser, try OMA (Outlook Mobile Access). But I think I just misunderstood your question...
You get that question IF you set up your exchange server to also be able to send notifications on SMS.
Unless you need that feature - turn it off in exchange server.

I go to ActiveSync on the phone, then select Menu, and select configure server.
it asks for server address, which i input., Then I hit next,
then eneter my user name, password, and domain, then select next.
Then i chosoe the data i wanted synhronized.
Then hit finish.
I then go to "Schedule", i select the sync during peak times and off peak times settings. and then at teh bottom of the screen i get adjust peak times, and "when new items arrive" both underlined.
I select when new items arrive and this is where it then asks me for my service provider.
That's strange. I use push email and never ran into this problem (AT&T as well). I go through "Mail->Set up new account", but going through ActiveSync should be the same. Make sure your AT&T connection parameters are configured. For me it always happens automatically (with Dutty's and most other ROMs).
Just thinking here: What version of Exchange server are you using? Push Email wasn't introduced since the introduction of AKU2 service pack for Exchange 2003. Could it be that your company is using an older version of Exchange?

Its server side yes.
You should contact your IT-administrator and ask him to investigate this for you.
Its probably just a permission issue.
You could set your activesync manually to be 100% sure.
By unchecking the "look for settings automatically" in the beginning of the activesync wizzard.
That way you are sure you reach the correct mail server.

Problems with synching exchange mail - Kaiser and Wizard...

I have received a HTC TYTN II from my company, which currently is synching with our mailserver so that I can read my email wherever I am.
Since I'm curious, I tried to get my old Wizard to do the same. I did the same install as with the Kaiser, but I get the dreaded "0x85010004". I scanned thru the Kaisers registry and took all root-certificates under "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\Security\SystemCertificates" and imported them into the Wizard and rebooted, but no luck. I am assuming it's a certificate of some kind that is missing, but I can't find where else it could be? Does Exchange install a hidden certificate on the phone in order to identify it, and if so - why isn't it shown in the certificates menu?
Any help is appreciated.

activesync cert with exchange
hi fredrik,
activesync accessing exchange on a mobile device uses OWA (outlook web access) to access your email through SSL. the best way to get the cert you need is to log into your OWA (probably something like https://webmail.yourcompanyname.com) or whatever it is (it's the same address you use when you put in when confiigure exchange with activesync) from a desktop pc. than, right click on a blank portion of the page and go to properties. you should see a button that says certificates, click on that, than click on the details tab. than click on the "copy to file" button and the cert export wizard will start. click next, than select base64 as the type of cert, than hit next, name it, save it, put it on a memory card or bluetooth the file to your phone and install it. sometimes, during the install, your phone will error out when installing it, just soft reset, and then install it again. you should get a message that says it was installed successfully. than configure for activesync for exchange on your phone and you should be all good. let me know if that works for you.
Thanks for the help!
Tried that and got the same problem. The original phone has Pointsec installed in it, but I do not think that it gerenates any certificates (at least not any I have found in the registry). Is the ACU version important?
/F
Talked to my IT department and they told me that Pointsec decodes a certificate in order to communicate with our mailservers. Anyone any good at pointsec and knows if it puts a crypto on the Registry or if it is purly file based? If the file is decrypted each time I punch in my code, it should register the time when the file is being decrypted... What programs can search files in WM and search for the time stamp?

I have an AT&T Tilt. I had Direct Push from Exchange Server working perfectly with no effort - was working for months. Then, I had a hardware problem with that phone and was given a replacement from AT&T. After replacing it I am unable to configure the direct push any more. I wrote down all the settings and carefully reapplied them on the new phone.
What I am seeing now is when manually invoking a send/receive, ActiveSync reports the following:
------
Result:
The server you are synchronizing with is not an Exchange Server, or is running incompatible
software. Choose Configure Server on the ActiveSync menu to specify the correct server.
Support Code: 0x85030022
------
I've been on the line with the hosted exchange server folks and there's no change on their end...
I installed the certificate as suggested above - seemed like it was worth a shot. No difference.
Any ideas?
sorry for the late reply.
I'm not too sure about your pointsec fredrick, as we don't use it on our mobile devices at work, but we do use it on our computers. as far as i know, pointsec is supposedly suppose to be transparent encrypt/decrypt after you first turn on your device and enter a passcode, heck, windows mobile should operate like pointsec isn't even on the device, so it shouldn't be a cert issue, but who knows, i never liked pointsec anyway. sorry i can't be more helpful.
ubetchya,
that error message is pretty straight forward, either the OWA address is wrong or your certificate isn't installed correctly. i know this sounds lame, but if you can, borrow a friend's Windows Mobile phone and config it with activesync to verify your settings are correct. for the owa address, try adding "/exchange" without the quotes at the end, maybe their redirect isn't working correctly. so if your server address is "https://webmail.hostedexchange.com", make it look like "https://webmail.hostedexchange.com/exchange" (that should take you to directly to the exchange server without using their redirect). if you want, you can also try downloading the certificate directly from your hosted exchange guys, if they have the cert page up that is (most exchange admins leave it up, i know we do =P ) to get to the cert page, go to a desktop pc...
1. type in your webmail server address and add "/certsrv" at the end without the quotes (ie; "https://webmail.hostedguys.com/certsrv"
2. it will prompt you for a username, it should be in the following format "domain\username", so if my domain was microsoft, and my username was bill, than my username would be "microsoft\bill" without the quotes
3. enter your password.
4. click on the last link, "download a certificate, certificate chain, etc"
5. select the base 64 encoding method and than click download CA certificate.
6. save it to a memory card or bluetooth it over to your phone and install it.
hope that helps!
oh... and one more thing about your server address, it could be different than adding "/exchange" at the end, to verify, just to your webmail and see wear it redirects, when you get to your login page (if using forms based authentication), use that address, if not using forms based, (small popup window for login) just log in and than use that address.

I got it working. The error message was pretty close to telling me that it's an invalid server "name". My hosted exchange provider uses owa3.... I was missing the all-important 3.
No matter how hard they try, programmers can't make it completely idiot proof...
All is working now beautifully. Thanks much for the suggestsions.
Tytn II
Hi there,
I'm trying to connnect my Tytn II to my work's exchange server so I can use it instead of having to use a Crackberry however I'm getting the following message in ActiveSync:
Support code # 0x85030022
The server you are synchronizing with is not an exchange sever, or is running incompatible software. Choose Configure Server on the ActiveSync menu to specify the correct server.
Can anyone help ?
Hi Smooth,
Have you tried all the steps in this thread already? make sure you have installed the correct certificate, have the correct server address and ask your administrator if activesync is enabled on the exchange server. post back with your results to the tricks in this thread and we'll see what else you can try.

[Q] Syncing with Exchange issues??

Hi guys, I've tried countless times today to setup my university email on the phone to no success.
I've followed the instructions on "how to setup email" on the microsoft windows phone 7 site and get as far as "Step 9" and getting to the "advanced" screen but it wont let me continue without entering something in the "domain" box, which is weird since the email account doesn't require one.
I tried randomly typing something into the domain box just to be able to continue but in the end it still does not work.
Anyone else have this issue, or know how to solve it?
I've been able to set up both Live and Gmail accounts easily, and by looking on google everyone else seems to have been able to set up their exchange accounts successfully
Thanks!
The domain would be the last part of your email address.
ie [email protected]
whatever.com is the domain
my guess as to why they don't auto-populate based on the address would be that most companies use a different "internal" domain that is different than the public domain used for the email address.
since you should not be a member of the internal domain of your school, use the public domain.

Thanks for the reply teoami, I did as you said and it listed the email as one of the accounts on the phone, however when I tried accessing it it says " attention required, outlook information is incorrect" and consequently is not able to sync. Any other ideas?
Just tried contacting O2 technical team but they just didn't have a clue, I guess this is a problem being an early adopter, when you get a problem there's not many people out there that have a solution sigh...
ignore me failure reading...
I'm assuming the uni runs a windows network? Login to one of the uni PC's and open system information (right click my computer and select properties), click on Computer name, the domain behind the computer name will probably be the one you need, but you could just ask the IT admin about the domain / server settings or check the intranet as settings are usually provided there.
domain for activesync exchange
Well I found that when you leave the domain blank you click Sign in and you then get the option to click advanced
The Server field is then visible (it was not visible before)
so long as you know the server you are using for your e-mail provider you should get it to work fine.
ie. hotmail uses m.hotmail.com

I have the cure bud...most universities use an offsite outlook server. In the domain field enter m.outlook.com it should sync everything for you, including your contacts, tasks, emails, and calendar. Although you may not use all these functions, your university's mail should be able to use outlook online.
Let me know if this worked for you
oh...one more thing, if all else fails, when you are on a pc and viewing your email hover the mouse over your "inbox". look at the bottom of your browser, the server will pop up as you hover.
Hey guys I finally SOLVED IT!! turns out it was kind of a false alarm and that the details I entered for "server" and "domain" were simply incorrect . Just so that anyone else from a uk uni ever has the same problem.... Server was "webmail.(university name).ac.uk" and domain was "(university's intials)NET". Everything synced perfectly after that. If in doubt like frontieruk suggested contact your company/uni IT department as I did.
Thank you for everyone's input!

[Q] Q: Exchange server

Hi guys,
Shoot me if this particular issue has shown up somewhere... (couldnt find it)
I am having problems connecting to the exchange server at work. My company has a very high security standard.
They have you digitally agree to usage conditions, and then have to activate you somewhere on a firewall...
They are using WOSH (whatever that is) ?
Now officially they said it would be only for rotten Apple phones. However i was told in confidence by enterprise application support it would work on any phone having exchange capabilties.
I have tried several programs: k9, touchdown, and now that standard android one.
In the guide to set it up for apple the information to enter is almost the same:
I now try with settings/accounts/add acount
email adress:
[email protected]
password:
Abcd1234
Next it fails and continues with:
domain/username
servercorp/firstletterlastname (1st letter of your first name + 7 of your last name)
password:
Abcd1234
Server:
wosh.server.com
Then there are options for using SSL
Use secured SSL connection
Accept all SSL certificates
here it mentions some ID: androidc2398921038
Client Certificate
This is how far I get, the guide continues with having to set a PIN after succesfull connection.... ?
I tried many permentations, in all cases I get "could not connect to server", i checked the server (wosh.server.com) it does resolve but does not allow ping.
Particulars / questions:
In the guide from work it does not mention SSL settings (and I tried with and without). In the guide there is a seperate field for Domain. The domain/username field shows up like that but in the prefilled example it show the slash backward instead of forward (\ vs /) I tried both to no avail.
Is there something specific to how apple phones identify themselves ? Can I mimmick that ? Could it be that kind off ID ?
Since they are so security sensitive could it be i need a client certifcate (it is not mentioned in the guide) ?
Are there any tests (telnet ?) i can do to find out the correct settings/changes ?
It is alot, I know, hope someone has an idea ?

So which client are you using now? This one?
If so format under Manual setup is:
domain\loginid
account pw
server.domain.ext
Use SSL
Accept All SSL
The ASOP client linked above supports (and ignores) most Exchange Policies.
If that doesn't work it's server related, it may pay to check in one of these threads but I don't know if they'll help with server issues:

you post some code aswell, do i need to use that to install the email.apk ? i just copied to sd and installed from there...
For starters I would like the policies implemented, scary i know, but at least I will adhere to company policies
Is there a way to check the device ID ? seems like different apps send different device IDs

Yes, it needs to run from /system/app/ so you'll need to follow the instructions on that page or use Root Explorer to drop it in there.
If you want one with Exchange Policies implemented you'll need to get a stock Froyo one from a custom rom somewhere (my Nexus ROM has it, see sig but make sure you get the CM6/Froyo version).
Not sure about device ID.
well I put the app on system app, using the sdk, seems fine only still not possible to use the exchange server....

Has anyone managed to get Excange Server to work?
I get it to work the first ½ hour (mail appears quickly, but calender and contacts takes quite some time to load).
Now the issues:
- After about ½ hour it cannot sync anymore unless removing and reinstalling Exchange Server. What is the trick?
- I do not get to understand why all my contacts disapear if I remove Exchange Server. Any way to have them saved?
- I cannot edit my appointments, only add alarms. Perhaps another calender program?
- Can the different calenders (google, outlook and LG PC sync) be merged
Phone just hard reset and only Exchange Server activated. Without the Exchange Server I do not want to keep the phone. At the same time it works fine on my Wildfire (from where I comy the settings) and on my Touch Diamond.

Microsoft Exchange with LG Stock 10h Email

Hi All, Please if anyone else has problems adding an email account using the MS Exchange option in the stock Email app can you share a solution. I get prompted to add an Administrator access before the app searches for the server and it then always fails. The admin never shows up in settings security. I tried this for 3 Exchange servers, same issue.
Thanks...

I had the same problem, found it is due to it doesn`t prompt to set password. Go to setting and set the phone password before setup exchange account, then it will Work.

May be I have the same problem. If I want to setup an exchange account in Stock-Mail-App, there should be a dialog, in which I have to accept the creation of a "device admin" (i´m german, I hope thats the correct translation). But this dialog never appears anymore. At first time, the dialog was there and I could create my account. But later on, there is no entry visible in "Device Admins" for Stock-Mail and after a Restore of a Nandroid-Backup, I couldn´t create the exchange Account anymore, cause the dialog doesn´t appear.
So, may be ur solution could help me. But what do u mean with "phone password", where to set. Did u mean lock screen password or what else? Please give advice, where to set "phone password". Thanks in advance!
Yes, I mean the lock screen password.
On Samsung S2, after aceept the security setting of the Exchange server, it prompt to set the lock screen password, but doesn't seems to be happen on LG, so I go and set it manually and it works.
