Andriod / Sense UI port for Touch Pro 2 - Would you pay? - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Windows Mobile ROM Development

I've been looking at the HTC Hero - seen a couple of ports have come to the G1 etc..
Not sure how possible it's going to be able to port it to the HTC Touch Pro 2.
I've seen someone has already started a project to create a better WM ROM and is requesting donations towards the project.
I'd quite happily donate $50 to any reputable developer on here to port Android / Sense UI from the HTC Hero to the HTC Touch Pro 2.
So anyone who would also donate to a project like this, please vote (and specify how much you'd be willing to donate) so it may stimulate some interest in a developer picking up the project .
Also please only vote if you would seriously donate.

unless you havent heard, the htc sense interface will be coming to windows mobile in the future (straight from htc themselves). The real development will be required to flash it onto the tp2 then as it will likely only be for the new htc models to be released. As I type this in on my TP2 I would be willing to contribute towards that effort, but I think it would be too difficult to take from andriod.

It was confirmed in the press conference on the HTC meeting in London on the 24th when they announced the Hero

50 no problem if there was a guarantee the software would be ported over with no "quirks" as in, everything just worked the way it should.
maybe more then 50....

im down for $50 also

£20 here aswell NP

me 2 50$ is nothing if i 'll get Androit on my tp2

I'm down for 50$ bones! But it has to WORK that means WiFi Bluetooth everything.

I would pay €100 to get everything working on Android for sure.

Getting Androd to run and Porting Sense from Hero are two seperate things.
If you read back the whole story, you will see that Sense as as will not come to Windows Mobile in the Exact form untill maybe Toucflo3D V3.
With HTC still playing with a Beta TouchFlo 2.5 when would you exactly expect someone to port the non existing TouchFlo 3.0 that "might" have Customisable options.
Not trying to be an ass here, just unclear what is wanted here?
Android on the TP2? (Propable)
Or just Sense? (Improbaple, but probable if Android gets running)
Sense on WinMo? (No Way Hosé HTC said so)

I'd pay 50 for android on the tp2
dont even really care about sense UI ... ok maybe I care a little
but android itself should be number one, but since the hero is so similar why not?
Also I'd prefer blowing off WM completly and not messing with haret

thinking
I'm thinking to buy a TP2 or a Hero (not in a week, but within a couple off months), now using a kaiser.
If this projects will start sure i'll donate and my choice is made

Maybe this is a nice start?

Ditto... I'm deciding between the Hero and the Rhodium, and the only reason I'm leaning towards the Hero is because it comes with Android installed and therefore everything works. If Android worked better on the Rhodium than it currently does on the Kaiser (wifi, gps, etc. working without a hitch) then I'd not only buy a Rhodium, but I'd contribute to the porting effort with a donation.

I'd love to see Android coming to TP2, best with Sense UI, as a perfect match. Yes, if it works well (stable enough to do business with) I, too, will contribute $50.

I would love this port!

Well apparently it can be done. Already ported to the HTC Vouge, it's slow but the Vouge is and old and slow device so that is expected. The TP2 is probably ideal since it has the same processor and ram as the Htc Hero. We will have to wait and see.

would pay more than 50bucks

I don't know. $50 seems a bit much to pay for a new os, after just paying $350+ for a new phone. On the other hand, I love Android and TP2. I would be willing to pay some to help development of Android on TP2. But only for Android+SenseUI. I don't need senseUI on a windows build.

New Sense UI on HTC hero?

anyone seen this yet?
i have and it looks tasty
if u havent check it out here

any thoughts on this being ported to a winmo HD?
because it looks so much nicer than touch flo?
post your thoughts people.
My thought is that it will not be ported. It's running on android, and uses android interfaces to communicate with the device.
We could only dream that at some point our blackstones will be able to run android.. These new android phones are starting to make me regret ever getting the HD

According to the HTC press release, HTC Sense will appear on ALL future HTC phones. This should mean that we will see it on Windows Mobile phones soon. Maybe then we will see it ported to the Blackstone.
regret getting a blackstone! take a look at what u just said and re think it! lol
Yeah, I'm a sinner, sorry
bad bad bad abats!

Microsoft is so slow on moving with things
Android really looks like taking off. the only thing that prevented me from going android is that it seemed very bandwidth heavy. now seeing hero and android apps ahhh.. what are they doing at microsoft!! come on guys make it easy for me to develop apps!!! get your marketplace going !! come one balmer get onto a stage and do a crazy and get us excited about windows mobile again. wm6.5 is such a cop out.
but why do all android phones have a huge chin! thats another thing letting them down in my opinion, that and that so far they are only on t mobile and voda in the uk......No thanks!

yepp....windows mobile is dying slowly That why my Blackstone is my last WiMo device...iPhone and Android have a bright future...WiMo doesn't.
after more looking this new UI is so nice, widgets and everything, better contacts management and stuff. i want i want i want! please be on a winmo device so it can be ported
android porting to HD is being worked on.. lets keep our fingers crossed
HTC SENSE, looks interesting Let's wait for new cooked rom
lol, maybe chefs here can cook up something =)
Now THAT'S some serious ui!!
Can't wait till some xda-blackstone-chef gets his hands on this one...
it is coming to Windows Mobile accoring to this...http://wmpoweruser.com/?p=5239
crosses fingers for an HD port!
I have to say that this HTC Sense UI looks great and seems to be very user friendly. I believe that sooner or later we will have "Sense" on ours Blackstones Patience...
the htc hero version can't be portet...even if android is running on the blackstone....there's a resolution problem...cause specs are as follows:
Inside you'll find Qualcomm's MSM7200A proc running Android at 528MHz, 512MB/288MB ROM/RAM, 3.2-inch TFT-LCD with 320 x 480 pixel rez, 900/2100MHz HSPA and Quad-band GSM, trackball, GPS, 802.11b/g WiFi, 3.5mm audio jack, G-sensor, compass, and 5 megapixel auto-focus cam with microSD expansion. It's all there baby.
But this ui will be available for windows mobile too...so I guess we will get a working version by the end of this years (at latest!!!).
HTC First Look Video of whats to come.....
Full promotional video from HTC can be downloaded HERE
VERY Impressive!!!!!
Expected UK Release Date 3rd July
I think this will be my next "adventure" - the main constraint for me will be Blackberry support though.....
.
Looks like Point UI.
But it is smoothhhhhhhhh! Please port ass soon ass possible!!
the new ui is based on manila, the only difference is layout.
you have to think, the original android UI is used on all previous android devices.
this is the first UI built by HTC for the android OS.
so can be easily built for WM by HTC.
so glad i spotted this and posted it before everyone else did lol

Skeptical about getting the Hero b/c lack of themes/mods any ideas?

So I reserved my Hero from Sprint but going through the forums so far I'm a bit hesitant now. There doesn't appear to be that many mods (only a few really) so far for the Hero. Is that because the device is so new and I should just give it time or is it that the device really isn't that popular of an Android phone so I shouldn't hold my breath for more customizable features? Also of all the hacks/mods they are so far for the European version of the phone and there is no telling if any of them will work on the Sprint or American version so that even further lowers my chances of people releasing good Quality hacks/mods for it. The main reason I wanted an Android phone was because of the customizable interface and the theming and skinning possibilities; I just want to make sure I'm not shooting my self in the foot by making the Hero my Android phone of choice.... Any suggestions?
-Michael
The only real "issue" with regard to the European/Worldwide Hero at present is the lack of kernel source, which makes certain modifications difficult. I'd expect this to change very quickly when the source is finally released.
However, this doesn't really help you much at present as the Sprint Hero is very much an unknown quantity. Until such time as some US devs get their hands on one, we won't know what is or isn't possible to do with the Sprint Hero.
Given your concerns, I'd probably be inclined to wait at least a month before getting one so that you can see what the state of play is with regard to rooting and custom ROMs for the Sprint Hero.
Regards,
Dave
I feel the same except I did go out and upgrade from a customisable G1 to a stale Hero. However I playing the long game tbh, think about it.... the hero as shipped by the bucket load plus at the moment its very hard to cook for a fresh because of the lack of kernel source, once thats release its going to be open season! And remember the hero is a great phone in it own.
How do you like your Hero? I"m currently using an iPhone and while I'm not getting rid of the iPhone because I really do enjoy the phone, I'm really looking forward to the customizability of the Hero and Sense UI even without the hacks.

How long do you think it'll be before the source is released? What's the precedent with other Android phones? Do you think because it's Sprint's first Android phone that they would take a twice as much time or even longer before releasing the code?
I believe that HTC have to release kernel source at some point which will enable most of us to cook its all just a matter of time. Plus remember how many hero's there are out there, I would think theres alot more than say G1's?
short notice: the hero is one awesome phone even not rooted. i didn't play around with the stock rom (1.76 for t-mobile germany) for long, but even that wasn't bad. MCR2.3 makes it just more awesome. i would buy it again, even if it wasn't rootable at the moment.

Windows Mobile can't be ported on the Tattoo. And that's that. End of story.
Don't see why not.
WM on the Tattoo: The sequel..
Its an HTC device and uses mostly the same components as other models.
Porting isn't really what is needed here. Just need to get it to run.
That goes vice versa.
edit:
Ah, you are an Mac user. Then this will be hard
my 2 cents:
If you wanted WM, you should had bought a Touch2.
That's the WM Tattoo cousin, with same specs and all...

Why make Android run on other htc devices?
Why make linux run on other htc devices?
Why make WM run on the Tattoo?

wm on tattoo == a step backwards in technological advancement
that would be about the worthless thing that could happen to the tattoo
What technological advancement are you referring to..?
If you are referring to the fact that Android is Google,
then please enlighten us what so great that we need to
spare the Tattoo from Windows Mobile..
Developers are indiscriminate when it come to brand.
I have these devices because I love the hardware and we can
do stuff with it. We can develop, experiment, tool them and if done
right, make money on them.
Admire htc for developing these devices for us, not Google, MS or Apple.
Serioulsy, what the **** ?
You have an Open-source firmware on your phone, and you want to remplace it with a closed-source ?
You've a firmware totally independent of any firm, or society, and you want to remplace it with a totally-dependent-of-microsoft-firmware ?
You are root on your phone, and you want to change for a phone on wich you are just a user ?
Seriously !
I think I understand what ebsbow is trying to explain to us. IMO, as long as it is for development purpose only, then I can agree. But I don't feel that WM can be fully implemented on the Tattoo, and don't think it'll be suitable for day-to-day use.
I think ebsbow got a point here. This is a dev site, not a fanboy site which support the back of a specific os just because it is better (according to some). If there is a way to implement windows mobile on the tattoo, then why not? Where is the harm in that? You dont like it, then dont use it. Itll be just a break through.
If you happen to hate a specific os, it is just a personal opinion. Just hold back from clicking on the forum. Xda dev is about development, not about refraining development just because some dont like the direction in which it is pointing.
But for now I think that porting windows mobile to the tattoo is far away. We are still in a very undeveloped stage of getting root. And also, thanks to all the devs who invested their spare time in this, a huge work has been done. Lets just hope that we soon get a stable state of root which doesnt get lost on reboot and that give us true root capabilities.
I don't think the stock Tattoo having root has anything to do with installing a new OS. Then again, I ain't a developer, and I don't know **** about developing WM for an officially unsupported device.
Of course mate. I just meant that the devs have their plate full right now

Okay, I'll release my windows mobile curse and admit that I do have some thoughts into Windows Mobile on the tattoo:
To be honest, Windows Mobile could be ported to the Tattoo/Click. WM could live on a SD Card, and the bootloader (HardSPL?) bootstraps the code from the SDCard to boot the WM environment or have a boot menu saying "Press Left to boot Android 1.6/2.x or right to boot Windows Mobile 5/6/7"
However, you'll face these problems:
1. Driver Support, you'd have to hack WM extensively to get support for phone and related components unless the drivers could be ported from the Touch/Touch2.
2. Not a native WM device. This could lead to Windows Mobile crying it's eyes out when the device crashes. "Mummy, I want my device rebooted". (lol bad joke, but hey )
3. Apps. Would they support the Tattoo's screen res? Parts could be missing off the screen and whatnot.
4. SD Card wear and tear. Could WM burn that MicroSD card up if you use it extensively? Windows can really tear up a SSD HDD if you abuse it, but a MicroSD has a tiny chip that runs the show.
5. Who's gonna support you when your WM/Android hybrid phone blows up and you need a replacement, and HTC rejects it due to "unsupported mods"?
Anyway, that's my few cents. I hope this helps you WM fangirls/fanboys.

{q} can we get flashable android rom

?????????????????
The Devs are working on this at the moment on some other devices.
It's a Fake! NAND storage is not aviable at Topaz in this moment!
Damn it, I really wish it would be possible already.
As shavenyaknz posted, devs are working on a flashable ROM for Rhodium. Considering the huge similarities between Topaz and Rhod, their work should be easily ported to Topaz when the time comes.
However, right now the project relies on windows to initialize a good deal of stuff so that it would work on Android. So it'll take a lot of work to succeed in making the Kernel initialize everything properly.
HD2 can do it , we can too
Winmo is better
Windows mobile is better than android any day of the week, unless you are at least half retarded. just enjoy the fact that WinMo is built by a talented company and not an overnight internet fad corp and shut the hell up! Anything Android can do, WinMo can do better. ipso facto. end of story.
Uuuh no, that is all based on opinion. Sure, the windows mobile os is cleaner and has other benefits (including, if you have HTC) HTC sense UI, but nowadays, people want a phone that can do anything, and, even you would admit, windows mobile has far fewer apps then Android (official ones at least) and Android is becoming quite common among the smartphone croud. I like microsoft, but even I think they kinda dropped the ball on this one. However, I do think that Windows Phone 7 is a step in the right direction.

The problem on my topaz is, that the data.img gets too big to fit in the phone-storage. I cooked a WM6.1 ROM without any HTC-devices and the there was still not enough space on the device.
Maybe the developers of xdandroid try to change the internal links for data.img to the storage device. This could work

Just a Troll

How can I install wm6.5 to HD7

as titile,
if HD7 can runing wm6.5, this will be fast wm system, it's will be a good news!
The HD7 is almost identical hardware to the HTC HD2 which comes stock with WinMo 6.5. It would probably run slower on the HD7 if someone took the time to port it. But really, with the HD2 in existence and readily available on places like eBay and Craigslist (for under $200 I might add), why would you want this?
Not trying to say that someone won't attempt it, but it is probably very close to the bottom of their list. Windows Phone 7 was designed to run smoothly on the Snapdragon processor. That's why our phones fly. M$ strict control over specs has definitely paid off. Windows Mobile 6.5 would run the exact same on our phones as it does on the HD2.
I have just upgraded to the HD7 from the diamond 2. Even thou WP7 is faster. I would rather stick to WM6.5 if anyone can give me a link to a HD2 rom for the HD7 I would be very happy. I know the HD2 has 2 more face buttons, but all we need is [back] [windows] and [home/red] to work. either that or I’m going to have to see if someone wants to swap a brand new HD7 for a well looked after HD2 lol still using my diamond 2 at the mo cos HTC Sense rocks! hd2 can't do 720p video because 6.5 can't do 720p video. It is an OS limitation, proven by the fact they have 720p video working on the h2 running android.
I agree with the others, sell the hd7, and find a hd2. I don't think the hd7 will be running winmo anytime soon.

i agree, it would be act of great honor, if some one could make hd7 running wm6.5.
bcoz after my hd2 i feel dire need to get some new mobile with wm6.5 os.
and i think xda developers soon make it possible.
hope for the best
.... buy a HD2, it's exactly the same but RUNS WM6.5 JUST LIKE YOU WANT. And hey, it'll be cheaper to buy too
Does anyone know how I can get a Nokia 3210 rom running on HD7? This is will was be goodz timez newz!
Correct me if im wrong!
Isnt this a developer site?...Its called XDA Developers right? So why on god's earth are people flaming people for creativity questions?...If someone wants windows mobile 6.5 on a WP7 device what do you care? Just because you don't think its a good idea doesn't give you the right to flame, I know personally I like having options on a device that is not locked down from exploring those options the very reason I chose windows mobile over apple devices in the past because of the ability to customize, take that away and in my opinion the device kind of sucks....If that was the case though and we couldn't mod our devices and ROM's and stuff then why would we even come to XDA?....Phones come with operational manuals in the box with the device, but nobody knocks people over and over for asking questions that are printed in the manual, To the people wanting a different operating system on your WP7 device don't let closed minded people stop you from exploring the capabilities of your Device....That's my opinion on the subject, I would like a Windows Mobile 6.5 Duty ROM and a Stock WP7 ROM and Android all on my device if possible I think that would be bad a$$ but that's my opinion, so don't let the trolls discourage you is all I'm saying...Not everybody has $200 to throw around, and some of us have wives that don't allow blowing money on stuff every time a new device hits the market, so the ability to customize is what makes a phone so fun in my opinion cause you can turn something old into something new.
I still have my HD2, it's sitting right next to my computer. I'm using a *cringe* Cliq 2 atm for work. But love my HD2 to pieces. It has the ability, thanks to devs here, to run WM6.5, WP7, Android, and actually a couple other OS. I'm patiently waiting for my HD7 to come in the mail. I'm sure it's possible to get WM6.5 on the HD7, but as others have said, it's probably on the bottom of the list for devs. Getting WP7 onto the HD2 was more of an "I told you so" to MS that it's possible to get it onto an unsupported device.
got stuck with win7 phone on t mo....android port to hd7 is the way to go. i hate hd7 no customizations, and very bland....got stuck with the hd7 due to hd2 bein stolen recently and the hd7 is the only phone close to hd2.
The thing that *really* annoys me, is these people who hate WP7 (yet buy/own a WP7 device (wtf?)) come to what i would like to consider a respectable developers forum, and ***** and moan... "oh no i can't customise it!", "oh no i can't flash another OS to it!", "Oh no I got it becuase it looks like/has the same HW as the HD2 but it's not a HD2 at all!"
If you *really* dislike the phone/OS, then don't bother wasting time (and other's) by posting repetative threads on here. Trade your phone for one that you want. Right now here in the UK the HD7 is selling on the bay for about £250, whereas the HD2, about £200. So sell your phone, buy a HD2, and make £50 in the process. And leave us happy owners who enjoy the phone/OS, to do just that and enable it to progress instead of go backwards. Simplez.
i got money

i didnt get why people who write what they want annoy you. coz im one of them i got money so i buy what i like, and i preffer hf7 to hd2 coz hd7 looks more qualified. everyones like you says ''this phone is flying this phone is so smooth''. yes it is coz it has nothing. the different between nokia 3110 vs hd7 is wifi and 5mp camera. and nokia 3110 is faster as much as hdy while calling someone or sending sms.
so if i got professional phone being fast is not important, i must do whatever i want with my phone even washing dishes thats why i carry big cell phone which is 162gr

@djstujones why the hell would you buy a Wp7 Device and downgrade to a lower OS?!?! Why didn't you just get a cheaper bloody phone that ran wm6.5?!?! this forum is already full of spam where people keep on asking "Can i get wm6.5 on h7? duuuuurp". SEARCH THE FORUM and READ UP A PHONE BEFORE YOU BUY IT.

The truth...
Buy a newer version and want to downgrade to lower version...
I never do that.
Windows 7 => Kick Ass Windows XP
Windows Phone 7 => Kick Ass Windows Mobile 6.5 => Kick Ass iOS=> Kick ass Symbian , quite same and little bit lower than Android because WP7 is still new.
I have used both HTC HD2, iPhone 3G,and now HTC HD7.
HD2 on eBay ...
I am looking at getting the HD7 and putting WM6.5 on it because I have hundreds of $$ invested in software that will NOT work in WP7.
On eBay the HD2 phones are over $500 in Canada, and shipping for me from the US always includes heavy duty charges, so the $200-$300 HD2 available in the US are not really an option for me.
I can get a HD7 from Bell for $99.
Don't tell me to "just get a cheaper HD2" because the HD7 is far cheaper for me.
