Is my Kaiser dead? - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

Hi, recently my extUSB broke down, so I was unable to coonect anything. My friend changed the connector in proffesional way with IR gun. But now Kaiser won´t even boot up, no vibration on startup, only green LED is lit up.
I bought D2, but I am curious if there is any way to fix it.
Thanks in advance

What does your friend say?
What happens if, while holding down the camera button (on the same side as the power button but further down), you press the power button to power it on - do you get a stripy screen? If you do, you can poke the stylus into the reset hole to reset the device out of the bootloader screen. What did the friend have to say about it - personally I'd much rather have a TyTN II which boots and works fine except for a broken USB port (I presume it was working fine before the 'repair'), than one with a shiny new port that won't work at all.

Nothing happens it looks like it is absoluttely dead.
The USB port was faulty, that was reason, why I let it change.
Well, it is strange, but actually I am very satisfied with with D2, even more than with Kaiser...

Well I suppose you could always get an expert to look at it but if its motherboard is damaged (or there's other hardware damage), it may be more expensive to repair than it's worth. You could see what your local HTC people have to say about it.

Or you could sell it in the market section, plenty of people that would like to get a crack at fixing it or use it for parts.

Hi, I just encountered the very same issue. I know I'm ressurecting a very old thread, but I rather do this than creating a new one
I flashed my Kaiser with Android about two months back. Everything was quite stable, no hardware issues. Suddenly, it won't turn on.
When I plug a charger in the extUSB, the orange LED won't show up. And if I try to turn on the phone, the green LED shows up and stays solid. However, the short familiar vibration isn't there and also the screen remains black. Nothing was wrong with the USB port. I tried multiple chargers...

Have you tried to reflash or hard reset?. Also maybe your battery is gone..try another one.

Some things to try

I realise you cant flash if it's not booting but if your battery has sufficient charge remaining (won't work if it's flat) it'd be worth trying a hard reset using the D pad key + stylus in the hole method (can be done at switch on time without needing a full boot).

How do you know that a fault hasn't now developed with it - I wouldn't rule that out at this stage. Have you tried a known good battery that is fully charged in the phone also is it the original charger you are trying (not all chargers with the same plug are compatible)? Are you able to get the bootloader screen to show and if so, what does it display?

No bootloader, no nothing - just black screen (there's not even a hint of backlight). I'll try a different battery today.
I tried using my old AC charger, my colleague's AC charger (for TouchPRO2), USB cable... the orange LED still doesn't come up.
What's the hardreset using Dpad key? I tried holding the power button + camera and also holding the two "context" keys (above explorer and messages buttons) and touching the reset button with the stylus.
I'll see whether a different battery will do the trick.
Thanks a lot for all your suggestions, guys! Much appreciated!

The context key one you mentioned is what I refer to as a D Pad hard reset. The one where you press the power button while already holding down the camera button is how to get into the boot loader - it's all explained in the Kaiser wiki. Sounds like another battery is definitely worth a shot - especially if you only have one (I have 3 for my Kaiser and on some days with heavy GPS use, I need all of them). What happened between it working and not working - what were you installing or doing with it?

I tried another (fully charged) battery from my gf's Kaiser today. No change. When I press the power button, the green LED shows up and stays solid (no blinking/flashing). Screen is black, no short vibration. I tried all sorts of hardresets and also tried to get into the bootloader. No luck.
Also, I took my multimeter and measured voltages on the charger, the battery and the pins in the phone where battery resides. Everything seemed to give a correct voltage. So it's really not a power issue
Thanks for all your help, but I'm afraid I have a total brick in my hand.

My Kaiser
Hi I have a HTC Kaiser I bought the first week it came out and it was f=ine for quite a while but 6 months ago it stopped working. It'll go to bootloader but won't flash. When trying to turn it on it'll go and just get stuck on the splash screen. I figured it was a battery because I'm very hard on my phones but I just got a replacement battery last week and all 3 of my batteries act the same way. I may have been trying to flsh went it went down it was a few months ago so I can't remember.
--- Other things to note
My Kaiser got wet and I had to have the usb port replaced and the dpad replaced. The usb acts fine but the middle dpad button does not work
The charging light will stay orange or green after I unplug the charger
After reading for the last week I think its either bricked or maybe has a bad hardspl on it?!?
Thanks in Advance for any help you guys may give.

Time for it to visit the same phone repair shop (or HTC) again for an assesment/possible repair if economically viable. If it's only recently got wet, you may be able to catch it before corrosion sets in and causes any damage but if it's not dryed out/cleaned quickly, the damage (from the resulting corrosion) will eventually show up (possibly in all the ways you've described).

[Q] Captivate screen won't turn on

Long story short, I've got a fairly new (~few months) totally stock Captivate that I can't get warrantied. So I dismantled it to clean the lock button out (I had done this to another Captivate maybe half an hour before and it now works just fine) because it wasn't working, but now the screen on this one won't turn on. I can hear the boot-up sounds (wooshing and whatnot from the Galaxy S screen), and the touch buttons at the bottom light up when touched, but the screen never comes on. When plugged into a computer, it isn't recognized. When plugged into the wall, there's no indication that it was charging at all, though I suppose it did since it now turns on and didn't before. I've tried holding the volume buttons and the power button to hard reset it, but that seemed to be totally ineffectual (screen didn't come on, no additional/different sounds).
Is there anything I can do to fix this phone for my mom before I leave the country for 5 months?
It sounds like one of the connectors isn't full engaged. Carefully take it back apart and ensure any cables coming from the screen are properly attached.
I hear this a lot. People dismantle their phones and when putting it all back together their ribbon wire to the screen isn't properly secured to its original state.

Thanks, that did the trick for the screen. Turns out the lock button still doesn't work, after cleaning it several times (I used CRC QD Electronic Cleaner). At least it's back to being mostly functional.

HTC one won't turn on, No LED, no flashing Home/Back button

I upgraded to an HTC One a month ago in T-Mobile and now randomly the phone won't turn on. The phone is rooted, unlocked, custom recovery, and has the Android Revolution ROM. I installed everything the first week I got it and it has been working perfectly fine (No freezes, battery discharging has a good rate) and everything works (Wifi, 4G LTE, Bluetooth). The phone has not been dropped, water damaged, or exposed to any excessive heat, so it should not be having problems.
Yesterday (9/14/13), I was using the phone just fine around 8PM with my friends in a restaurant and everything seemed fine. A few hours later when I was walking down the street, I take my phone out of my pocket and when I hit the power to wake up the phone nothing happened. I pressed the power button for 10-20 seconds and nothing.
When I got back to my room and plugged it in, the LED did not turn on or anything and when I pressed the power button again after being plugged in, nothing happened. I charged it all night and decided to work with it today, but nothing has helped. I have tried holding the power button and volume keys for minutes, holding power button and nothing. When I plug in the phone to the PC it detects it (Windows USB sound in) and when I press the power button for around 15 seconds it makes the sounds but then it makes the removed usb sound.
Since the phone is Rooted, unlocked and has custom recovery and rom, I'm not sure warranty would help, ALTHOUGH since it doesn't turn on and physically is not tampered with, they could get it to at least turn on.
Please help me out here as I am a college student and really need my phone for work and to stay in touch with my parents. Thank you, and I apologize if I didn't follow a posting guideline.
P.S. One of the causes could be a drained battery, but the charging all night should have helped.

Try holding the power button and volume down buttons down, while holding the proximity sensor directly under a very bright light...
This actually happened to me on my first HTC one I couldn't get it to do anything I ended up sending it to HTC I knew they would deny my warranty claim because of the bootloader and ROM but I knew they would have to turn it on yo figure it out. They called me to tell me that it was not covered and said it would cost 215 to put it back to regular I denied and paid the $35 diagnostic fee when I got it back I booted straight into fastboot and flashed my backup.problem solved

This actually sounds like a great, thanks , but before sending it out I think I would like to try other solutions since it would suck to not have my phone for 2-3 weeks. Also, how long did the whole process take for you? (Sending it out, "repair", and getting it back)
This happens to a guy in another thread. He fixed it by leaving it in the wall charge until the red LED turned on, it took 4 days on the charge.
Hey it actually only took about 1week take it back to your carrier have them send it for you. I also heard about leaving it on the charger for a long time I tried over night and it didn't work the next thing I did was send it to "repair" but if you have the patience leave it on change for a few days first

I have a Verizon HTC One exhibiting the exact same symptoms. The battery went dead after a long day and it will not turn on or charge. I have held the proximity sensor in bright light while powering on and while holding both vol up and power. Neither seemed to change the problem. How bright of a light are we talking? Thanks in advance. I am also curious why this works....

Its so that if the phone is in your pocket it won't start up as the proximity sensor detects the phone is in your pocket so tells it not to start up. Sometimes the sensor doesn't work as it should and needs a really intense light to overwhelm the sensor and let the phone start up.

Put it under a desk lamp!
I had the same exact problem. My phone couldn't turn on after it reached 0% and there was no orange light when charging. I put the phone right under my desk lamp and held the power button for 15 seconds and it turned on. Thought people were just trolling... The battery was at 1% when it turned on. I already left the phone in wall charge overnight. Guess it was not charging very well. Thanks for coming up with this solution!
It worked!!!
WOW The light over the sensor worked for me too!! I'm glad I came to this forum first!!:laugh:
Doesn't work for me
This REALLY sucks I just got this HTC One used and I was using it all yesterday and this morning with no problems. Then all of a sudden a couple hours ago it just shut down - I was just browsing the web, so it wouldn't have overheated.
Now, it won't charge (the LED doesn't come on) although it was at about 50% when it shut down. I can't get into the bootloader or recovery, and ADB doesn't recognize that it's plugged in (despite Windows playing the little jingle indicated it's been connected).
Ever since then I've been scrounging the web for answers, What exactly have you guys done for this light trick to work? Because I've held it under a bright LED and under a desk lamp with a 13W CFL bulb, while holding power + volume down, but haven't had any luck.
How long have you guys held them down for?
I haven't even seen the capactive buttons light up (although it's just kinda hard when you're holding it under a light, so maybe they are flashing I just can't see) and the only sign of life from this is the fact that Windows installed Qualcomm drivers and plays the jingle indicating that it's detected a device.
EDIT: Forgot to include, I've been trying to leave it sit charging (one person mentioned their friends' One worked after leaving it charging for 4 days - I'm not sure I can wait that long, but if I have no other option I will).
Also, should I leave the SIM in or would it not matter (personally, I don't see that making any difference whatsoever, but I really don't care at this point)? And should I alternate light/darkness while holding the buttons under a lamp, or just leave it under the light and hold them? (I've tried all of these things, but I'm willing to pursue whatever avenue had the greatest success rate).

Ya, I tried looking into that before, and there's nothing there. Now I'm trying to find out what/where that Qualcomm driver is that was installed.
EDIT: I DO see it in the Devices/Printers as Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008 (COM3).
I've also installed HTC Synce Manager, but I'm not sure if that just automatically installed the drivers or if there's something I should do to manually install those.

Sorry to hear that. You are hard bricked, send it to warranty.
Edit: The motherboard is fried and HTC would have to change it. The phone is used so contact the seller and ask him for warranty information.

Well, since you're under warranty, doing anything else just doesn't make sense. And using jtag would require you to open the phone, and trust me, you don't wanna do that to this phone.. Just out of curiosity, what are the first 5 digits of your serial no?

ok so i've been using it a bit but my battery was 70% last i checked. was playing around with throw and just opened youtube and the screen flickered a bit (black lines) then decided to go black completely.
nothing i do will make the screen do anything.
holding the power button for ages (usually the way to turn off/reboot a phone) doesnt do anything. the backlight is on as i can see that. but nothing is on the screen.
anyone got any ideas on how to force a shutdown/reboot on these?

IIRC the Xperia Z1 has a hard reset button under the sim flap, it's a small red button, give it a shot.
remove sim card and sd card and try again, if it's still not responding do an update repair using SUS or PCC
BTW there is a known fault with the XZU and it could also be on the Z1 as they use similar Firmware, what people have found is that the phone will start up eventually and then they go into the display setting and untick the auto backlight option and that fixes it
I also reboot my Z1in this way when it blackout.

Managed to hard reset using power and up volume .
Put it on charge overnight but it doesn't see,m to have taken any charge at all....just trying again using diff PSU and cables but it doesn't want to charge. It recognises that I've out a cable in as I played with the smart connect setting. When it is off completely I get a red light (presumably meaning its charging ) but not in android
Any ideas?
Got it charging again by pushing the red button near sim slot for a couple seconds.
Just had another issue with SD card not being recognised after I removed another (/safely) had to reboot again using power plus vol up as it stuck on the shutdown logo when I tried to power down'...
Wow I can't believe the amount of issues I've ran into within 24hours of having this thing. I really don't know what to do...return it because it sounds like a faulty device (but all the issues are seemingly unrelated) or return and get another phone (is anyone else getting problems like I am?)
Sometimes phones have issues. I got one once that had no speakers or Mic inside... it happens lol
Try to go exchange it, and see if the next device gives you issues.. if not then you're good, if it does pick a different phone..
Do it soon though, most carriers only have a 14 day exchange period, and then after that will charge you all sorts of fees and try to fix your phone rather than just giving you a new one....

Something happened to mine with Youtube too. I'd started a video and paused it on a frame for comparison with another screen. While I was setting the other phone up, the screen on Z1 timed out. I pressed power, the screen come on and flickered, then went black!
Power and both volume keys function the same as the red button under the flap. I wasn't able to reproduce the bug.

yeah i've been trying to reproduce it and failing to. very odd. maybe its something to do with the first time you use youtube and do something specific?
gunna phone o2 up tomorrow and see what they say about all my issues. seems to have been fine this last 24 hours though and in their eyes that is prob reason enough not to issue a replacement.
I've had mine since Monday and this happened to me yesterday. I was troubleshooting sending MMS with T-Mobile tech support (not a phone issue as it was happening on previous phones too) and had to restart the phone several times. I noticed upon restarting that the backlight seemed to be on but the phone was not booting up. Had to perform several hard resets (both with the red reset button as well as the power/volume up buttons) before it FINALLY rebooted and stayed on. While trying to figure this out I ran a Google search to see if others were having this problem. One solution was to make sure the backlight option is checked. I had been messing with settings the night before and must have unchecked it. Since I rechecked it I haven't had the same issue.

XPeria Z won't turn on and LED doing strange patterns

Hello !
My problem is a bit long to explain, but I'll try to make it short ^^
So, at the beginning, I think the problem is about water resistance, because I put it in water with all the covers closed but when I took it back, the jack's "white thing" turned red and so did the others as well (even if I don't know how it happened).
From that moment, I began to try a lot of things, like charging it, connecting it to the computer, put it in rice during one night, etc... In order to dry it and to see how it's reacting, and here is the differents "states" I noticed:
-when it was charging with the wall charger, the red LED was blinking regularly
-when I connected it to my computer, the red LED turned on, my computer made the connected sound, the LED turned off 2 seconds after, and 10seconds after it went on again with the disconnected sound and the connected sound again and repeating (disconnected - LED on - connected - 2sec - LED off - 10sec)
-it wasn't doing that usually but it did it one time; red LED blinking without any connection to anything ( blinking 2 times every 2 seconds)
-and nothing was happening with the dock
At the moment I'm writing, it's acting a bit different:
-nothing's happening whithout connection
-when charging to the wall charger or the dock, it vibrates 1 time, red LED turning on, waiting 4 seconds, vibrating 3 times pretty fast, then the LED is turning off and it repeats a dozen of seconds right after that. (a bit like that - --- - --- - --- - --- - ---)
-when it's connected to the computer, it's now doing the connected and disconnected sound without stopping just like somebody is playing with the USB
I tried to press any button at any state, but I did'nt noticed anything changing.
I think that's all.
So if you have any idea about what's happening to my phone, please tell me
Thank you !
...
It's water damaged and needs sending for repair. Red LED indicates a hardware error.
There is nothing you can do yourself to repair it.

So, yesterday, I brought it to a repairer but instantly when he saw that the "little squares" were red, he told me that there's nothing to do, end of discussion.
I came back home a bit sad because I knew I had to buy a new phone but then, this morning, I was in a mood like "I don't give a f***" so I put it in charge and I tried hard with the Power Button, and the Vol+/- when suddendly, I saw the screen blinking during one short moment. Then, I tried again and I finally saw the "Charging screen" but the screen was going on and off. I waited a bit and it turned on by itself, and it went until the PIN-code phase but there again, the screen was turning on and off repeatedly, and, trying hard again with the buttons, I managed to go until the homescreen, but seeing the screen turning on and off again with sometimes the menu to power off the phone/restart/etc... I realised that the real problem was about the buttons ! So I turned it off ( trying to press the button rapidly before the screen do it again) and now I finally understood evrything ! When it was doing the strange patterns with the LED and the vibrations, it was because there is some problem in the contact with the buttons (it was turning on and resetting by itself because of this).
Now that we finally know what the problem is, have you got an idea about how to solve it ? Do you think there is still some water around the buttons and that I should try to dry it again (and how in that case ? Rice ? Hair-dryer ?) ? Or will the buttons stay like that even without water remaining ? In that case, do you have any solution ?
Thanks again !
You can buy all the replacement buttons on ebay if you are confident enough, it seems that you're warranty has been voided by the water so that's out of the question. I would suggest buying a new battery at the same time.
replace the battery ..

I tried holding the power+vol down buttons for 15 secs but it still does'nt work.....
no good news, mine first t715 also died like this. i hope I was wrong but...
Take it in for warranty m8
Might be worth waiting for the battery to completely drain and then try and turn it on after getting some charge in it.
I've had problems recently, after using OTG, the tab's display will just turn off, and when I mean off, it's just the screen, the tab is actually still on, as you can feel the heptic feedback, the only way is to force reset using the power volume and home key.
Another problem, still recently, I had about 12% power, so I just connected the USB to charge the tab, the screen started to flicker and then nothing works, after 10 minutes reconnected the power, and it started to charge up from 0%, it seems like the tab has gone haywire, I had decided to trade it in the next few days for the xperia X performance.
Not even bothered to take it to samsung service center (still under warranty), I can't stand their customer service, my tab has been through a repair before, my home key died and it kept on grabbing the side of the hole and sticking down, they replaced the part, but left something inside causing a lump at the back, problem sorted out, but the buttom kept on grabbing the side of the hole and not coming out if you press it slightly on one side, I even showed them the problem, and they agreed, and they say that a normal person won't press the button like that, and it's normal, I did mention that I have tried a few units and does not have the same problems, they just said it's normal, so I said to them if this is normal what isn't normal, and do they tell all there customers if they have a problem that its normal.
So I am completely sick of there BS, trying to keep away from samsung stuff.

Got rid of it, it should be a problem internally, anyway I've traded it for a Sony Xperia X performance.
Mine also died few days ago. I tried to charge it with different chargers and cables but without any success. POWER +VOL DOWN is not rebooting the tablet.
Now I am planning to open the back cover and will try to disconnect the battery. I believe it will help.

I am sorry, I did not have enough time for that in the last days. I will do that probably later today and will share the result.

Unfortunately, no. It didn't work. I removed the back cover and managed to disconnect the battery. I left it disconnected for few hours, then I put everything back together. After, I tried to charge it and power it on again but without any success.
Any advice and suggestions would be highly appreciated.
