HTC Magic Best Skins Ever Review! - myTouch 3G, Magic Accessories

Hey Everyone!
Anyway I posted this at another forum, and I decided that I should post it here to. This community has done so much for me, I have been lurking around here a bit and decided to give back. Here you go :

Installation Tips
Installation on this skin, like all skins, is fairly hard. Here are some great tips that really helped me move the proccess along.
1) Using an exacto-knife (or even better a model knife), cut the top piece near the earphone and the bezel piece into two. I guarantee you this will help GREATLY!
2) Do the same on the face buttons, and the bottom bezel. Here is an illustration :

3) Palm technique: This is a well-know technique among people who use skins often. On skins, corners often don't stick down. So what do you is wait a couple of minutes, usually 5, then using the palm of your hand press down on the corner and hold it for 30 seconds. The corner usually goes down, if not wait a bit more for the solution to dry then try it again. It is extremely useful for area's that just won't stick down.
4)Another thing that helped me, was get a deck of cards and tape them together. Put your phone on the top and apply the skin then. This helps to make sure your skin doesn't skin to the table.
5) The last thing is never, ever apply your skin over a paper towel, since the dust from it can stick to your skin. And make sure no dust gets under the protector because it is a huge pain to perfectionists like me.
Install
The back and sides are the easiest to do. The back went on in under 15 minutes, the only thing you need to do is make sure you do the palm technique (Tip 4) and the corners easily go down. What I did is I applied the back and waited for 5 minutes for the solution to dry up a bit, then put the corners down.
For the front, do the screen first. It will help you determine the lines where the top and bottom piece should go. Make sure the screen is on centre, because mine floated off and made an area where dust builds up, and it really ticks me off.
Make sure that everything is 100% on its right place. This skin is cut exactly for the phone, and a shift in a couple of mm can result in major problems (I learned the hard way).
Here is a picture of some lint and dust that gathered in the gap between the screen shield and chin shield pieces (Because I mis-aligned the screen protector):

Feel
Overall, the skins feel amazing. The screen part, has a slight orange field affect, but after some use it feels amazing to the touch. Your fingers slide around well. Many people complain about the orange people, the BSE has it ever so slightly. The truth is, at first it feels kind of sticky. After a bit of time and use, it smooths out. And also, the skin feels amazing, makes the screen much more tactile and feel great. It also prevents fingerprints a lot. I have been using it for a week and didn't have to wipe the phone, not once. And it doesn't distort the screen or anything.
I have a feeling they used a slightly less orange peel screen shield, because the back is more grippy. This is great, since I found the original plastic phone back very slippery, especially in hot weather and sweaty hands.
Here is the front :

Here Is the Back:

Coverage/Pieces
Many people want to know the coverage and how it compares to competitors. Well basically, the phone covers the entire front, excluding small spaces around the buttons.
The sides are fully covered except a small area around the volume controls.

They reach all the way around and meet at the top, and at the bottom where they leave an opening for the ExtUSB connector, and also a very exact cutout for the microphone :

The back is where the most exposed. The camera hole opening is quite a bit bigger than the camera itself, but its not an issue at all.

Also, the back has about a 3 mm gap between the side cover and back cover. I think while this is actually a good idea, because now there is no scare of accidentally overlapping the two pieces, and not being able to take off the back cover.
Overall I highly recommend the BestSkinsEver. They are high quality, and have an incredibly low price. I just recommend taking advantage of the deal and get 3 skins at once and get free shipping, because it is very likely you will mess up the first time. And if you don't, then you will have back ups in case the skin gets damaged.
Note 2 : To make the solution, I used a quarter of a spoon of orange Dawn dish soap, mixed with 300ml of water.

I wish i had seen this prior to buying the shieldzone shield. The coverage is way better on best skins. Thier are many areas of my mytouch/magic that are not covered as well as with the best skins ever. Great review!!!

where can i buy this skin?

www.bestskinsever.com - this is a great skin and covers almost the whole phone - i didnt cut the top piece and it came out great...

You don't HAVE to cut the top, I am just saying it helped me greatly in application, and because of the quick application I got no dust under the skin as well.

what would you say about the durability of these skins?
Also, does it attract fingerprints just as badly as the original finish, or does it have some fingerprint resistant finish?

Best Skins Ever Rock!
The name says it all! I have been using these little beauties for about a year now and nothing has ever worked better. I was using a rubber cover before and I couldn't ever get the darn thing out of my pocket, or in the charging cradle. Best Skins Ever allow me to use the phone as intended without compromising the new look. Luv It!

I looked on the site and can't find one for the Magic. Did a search for all HTC and there are 7 models listed but not the one I need.

its here http://www.bestskinsever.com/servlet/the-151/T-dsh-Mobile-myTouch-3G-Skin/Detail

By any chance do you have an issue with dirt getting on the edges? I have a Bodyguardz skin on mine and for some reason it gets dirty around the edges of the whole skin.
***EDIT: I meant dirt around the edges of the screen.

Go to www.cnn.cn. They have a good selection of spare parts. the entire slide mechanism is $39.95 USD. Whole new case is $79.99 USD. They are based in Hong Kong and ship all over the world. Parts show to be in stock on their website.

that pic gives you a bit of an idea - looks worse in real life, the metal front plate is buckled at the bottom of the screen and the buttons are all scraped - the side plastic housing has the silver paint ripped off it and the sliding mechanism is really loose now - i can push one side of it and itll move about 2-3mm up without the other side moving at all - i recall this being rather tight before i dropped it
im so kicking myself :'(
Yeah!! The TyTnII (and it is one you can tell by the front cam position) side thumbnail shows a COMM Manager button
It would mean the power button was in the wrong place?
It looks like pre-production parts? Kaiser's rear was glossy up to production release. Power button looks OK, but that's a different 2nd button for sure.
Not that this helps, but I had my big camera case on my shoulder and it somehow spun and unclipped my Kaiser in it's PDair flip case, off my hip and onto asphalt! I hear the mind-bending clatter of a $850 plastic toy bouncing.... magnet catch released..... front flap opened.... came to rest, face down..... Not a freaking mark!!!
I went to church.

OH so good
Anyone know of a supplier of silicone cases for Kaisers? That would have limited damage and I am really nervous with mine as I have experienced a drop or two previously with my SP5 but come out unscathed due to a good silicone skin.

tbh im quite amased the damage tomine literally is only the casing - i did properly step on it with all my weight and it did slide along the tarmac *CRINGE* under my full weight (bit like a skateboard - it was really rough oldy knobly tarmac too)- lord knows how i missed cracking or scratching the screen - i reckon there was some divine intervention going on somewhere - god works in mysterious ways etc - maybe this phone is blessed
mind-bneding really is appropriate - i think i nearly lost conciousness lol

yea thats a good idea - i really need to invest in a decent case - im only using this utterly _CRAP_ belt pouch that came with my vario3 at the moment (which is significantly crappier than the htc beltpouch)
my mini usb connection is in shambles I found ppc techs online and the part is only 25 can anyone point me to a guide or step by step (im hoping its not too hard)
Is a bit of play in the keyboard slider normal?
I recently dropped my MDA Vario III from a height of the seat of a chair onto a wooden floor. Everything works fine and there are no scratches or anything but I'm not sure if the keyboard is now a bit looser than it was. If I press on the top or bottom right hand corners of the screen it slides in a little. Is this normal or is it fairly tight unless you push both top and bottom at once? There's about a 1mm gap on the left hand side between screen and base and if I press the X button on the screen to close an app, the screen moves down under the pressure a bit. Can anyone with a pristine Tytn II tell me if that's normal or not? I have an accidental damage policy on the phone.
Cheers,
Ashley Emery

Nothing to worry about, this is normal. If you try to slide it by pushing at the very top or bottom (one corner only) it slides in a little. You can slide it out that way, but it feels less smooth than normal. To slide it properly you'll need to push a bit closer to the centre, like you'd normally do with your thumb. This way you get a nice smooth sliding action.

I think 1mm is a bit too much. Your screen may have been dislocated because of the drop... If you look closely at the surface of the touch screen you'll notice that every time you push on it with the stylus the screen surface "bends" slightly. This is normal. But if the entire screen assembly/frame moves and goes in as you push it, then it may have been damaged and become loose. Perhaps you can try another Kaiser in a local shop and compare.

Best Screen Protector for HD2: Vikuiti (TM) DQC-160

Okay, I am going to be super honest here.
I've tried several screen protector for my HD2 since I gotten it. Possibly 7 total different ones now. Bought from ebay, HTC official, etc. They are all crap!
Today has been the day that I am settling for the best screen protector I've found - and would HIGHLY (with 100%) recommend this screen protector to anyone in a heart beat.
The Vikuiti (TM) DQC-160
http://www.protectionfilms24.com/article/vikuiti-dqc-160-screen-protector-htc-hd2-28087.html
I am from the US, I bought the protector on Sunday and I received them in the mail today, Thursday. Super fast shipping overseas!
1) Very easy to apply. Easy clean up!
2) No need to apply after a hot steamy bath. It really resists dusts during application.
3) Highly cut to precision! I love this! It also cover the entire glass in front! Even the bottom glass under the buttons!
4) The feel of it is just amazing! It feels like its not even there! I feels like I am touching glass! No friction whatsoever. *Note that I am not exaggerating here.
5) Very transparent. I can not tell its even on. And my Front sensors are not affected by this protector in any way.
I am posting pictures. See below. Ask questions away.

thank you for sharing this information.
Maybe you could briefly outline what the advantages of a screen protector for a hd2 are. I'm not too familiar with the device yet, but i thought the display is glass. I saw videos where people tried to scratch the surface with keys and knifes but didn't succeed.
Thank you!
I'll help... just google for capacitive screen and notice, that top coat is not glass. it can be scratched, just not as easy as resistive one.
Martin Fields... awesome...
wow it looks good...
it even has that part that protects the part under the buttons unlike mine...
nice keyboard.
I should be receiving mine today!
I originally ordered some cheaper ones, which are awful! It's like you have to apply them in an air tight room, and the edges never stay stuck.
I heard good things about the mentioned protector so I ordered one.
Thanks for posting the photos and positive review!
Ordered mine as well.
Hope no dust or loose edges this time.
Thanks for the tip.
Definitely will order this, thanks
Installing ?
Hi,
I'm having some trouble installing - any hints ?
I agree though - The Vikuiti (TM) DQC-160 is by far the best screenprotecor.

Fit on flush screen?
lemonspeakers- Just wanted to know how the DQC-160 fits on the flush screen of the HD2? I was a little concerned that the 160 was a "ridgid" type of SP and thus a little thicker. I just installed a protectionfilms24 SP on my Canon A590 and was worried it may be to high for the HD2 flush screen. I will be getting my HD2 from TMobile US March 24th. Thanks
Greaaaaaaaat, thank you very much for sharing! I have been looking for a good protector for very long, but there are so much different opinions about it, but this sounds really great!
Although I have one question, it covers the " sensor " next to the " speaker " of the phone (you know when you talk with somebody and I mean the speaker of which you hear the person talking to you), and I have read somewhere on this forum, it shouldn't do that!
Could anybody confirm/disconfirm this?

Read my first post. This SP is highly transparent but smooth as glass. It won't interfere with the proximity and lighting sensors. Already tested under different conditions. It works as if it was never there.
I also forgot to mention, the SP is a little thick. That just goes to show that this is not some cheap material they are using- mind you.

Again, read first post. This was highly cut to precision. The only hard part I had was getting the bottom and sides to line up perfectly (I am a bit anal) because its highly precised cut. *You don't want your screen protector running off the side of your device now do you?
i just ordered mine not too long ago, for the North Americans like me its around $12.00 USD.
so as of now im just patiently waiting for the screen protector to come in. i will try to post up a video on youtube regarding said protector, most likely it will be posted in this thread after i made the video. till then.. Adios!!
Got mine today. Soooo much better than the cheap ones you buy on eBay
I have a doubt: can you take it off, wash it an put it back on again, or is it a one time application?
Thanks
I have the opportunity to get this for "free."
How is it WRT:
1. Fingerprints and skin oil smudges
2. Sunlight and glare
If it came with a rear camera protector as well, like my Martin Fields kit for the n95, I would buy it.
For now, I'll stick with the screen protector that came with my maximum protection invisible shield.

I agree, it can give you lots and lots of fingerprint oil. much more than the glass alone.
Are there any FULLLLLL screen protector that solves this issue?

Yes you can reapply. I've done it and it works. Just make sure to air dry it b4 you put it back on.
I would h ave to agree with you. I got the invisible shield thinking it was the best possible product and in ways it is great. It does not seem as if the edges will start to come up and I think it provides preimum protection but it does ruin the feel of the device plus I had a terrible time applying it since it was my first time using this product on a device. Once it tried I have some horrible streaks underneath and I am afraid to pull it up and try again. So I might give this one a shot.

Final fix for Nexus 7 screen lift/seperation derived from other fix

Hi,
First of all my sincere apologies if this is dupe (Please delete this thread mods if dupe). I guess I found the 101% fix for screen separation, so I decided to share it with others
1. Empty your phone battery to 1-2 % , switch it off, once done go to the next step
2. Follow this thread (NEW FIX for screen separation issue) and do what @dilldoe said. (Note: This alone might fix but some guyz reporting screen lift comes back, same as in mine case, screen lift came back at first )
3. Now wrap your nexus 7 in some cloth (not very thick), apply clips where the screen lift is , then put it in charging. Leave it for 12-14 hours.
Now you can check your screen lift problem is gone I'd say . Above method fixed mine also and it's been more than 3 days it didn't come back.

Just wanted to ask if it ever came back.. please get back to me. All what specific "tools" did you use?
Another Fix for the Nexus 7 screen lift issue
I've found a new fix for the screen lift issue that worked for me; I never post on these things, but this has been bugging me so much that I though I should share this with others who have had to contend with this issue. Please do not hold me responsible if you take these somewhat "drastic" measures and they don't work for you in the same way they did for me. Also note that this procedure will certainly void your warranty, so proceed at your own risk.
I am on my third N7, so I simply examined the device myself and went through with what I thought was necessary to fix it. My first two N7s had the screen flicker issue and all of them had the screen lift. This third device didn't have the flicker issue, but the screen lift was the worst on this one than my previous two; it was the only one that not only had a perceptible lift above the bezel, but was also very squishy and made a clicking or shifting sound when I pressed it. This became particularly annoying every time I tapped the home button in portrait.
I have also tried a lot of the common fixes online: tightened all the screws, loosened the ones on the left side a bit, made the washers as suggested on this thread, etc. What I found when I took the back off, however, was that I could easily run my guitar pick (which I used to pry off the back) along the groove on the *right* side, but could not do the same on the left problem side. Aside from the four-pin connector and a part in the middle, each screw appears to have a three ridged "grate" as part of the inside mould which doesn't allow a deep groove along the entire left side like it does on the right side. Also, the back cover has a number of ridges sticking out (likely to block out dust, etc.) in addition to the clips that hold the back cover in place. In my thinking, then, I thought that perhaps those ridges on the back cover were pushing down on the elevated portions inside the N7, thereby pushing out the screen on the left side along with it. It would make sense, since there is such a deep groove on the right side to accommodate the right-side ridges on the back cover, which isn't the case for the left side. It seemed, therefore, that there was a flaw in the design of the shape of the mould for the back cover.
So, since this was my third device, and I simply didn't care what the results would be out of frustration, I ever-so-carefully trimmed or scraped off any ridge that wasn't a clip along the left side with a jack knife. Then, (and I don't know if this was necessary), I watched a video to heat up the N7 and placed a stack of books on it over night (ensuring that the bottom book was aligned with the screen inside the bezel).
Now, I have tried many adjustments, and after each of the probably 50-ish times I've carried out these various methods, the screen popped back up after only about 15 minutes of use. It's now been about a week of fairly heavy use, and the screen is still below the bezel where it belongs.
There are three additional points: first, this methods was implemented in conjunction with the aforementioned book-stacking and the washer method. I don't know how much the book-stacking played a part, but the washers by themselves did nothing for me (I just haven't removed them b/c I didn't want to risk messing with a good thing). Second, because I removed all those ridges on the back cover, there is a barely perceptible gap between the silver bezel and back cover. In my opinion, it is not enough to let dust in, and it is certainly much, much, MUCH more preferable to the screen lift. Third, this method isn't perfect; there is still the slightest of slightest lift in one place (more near the bottom, in portrait), but it is enormously better than it was before.
I've included a few images that show the "grates" by the screws and elevated portions that the ridges on the back cover were pushing down on, the trimmed or scraped-off sections on the back cover where the ridges used to be and used to push down on these elevated portions inside the N7, the end results that show the screen below the bezel from two perspectives, and the size of the "gap" between the silver bezel and back cover after the procedure.
I truly hope this helps everyone relieve some frustration.

your pictures arent working but i believe you are right. when i have the back cover off there is no screen lift whatsoever...you might have solved it yo
i want to see your pictures before i do it to my nexus though.
So I've been considering the N7 for a few months now because of the awesome price point it's at and I was wondering how common an issue this is. Is screen lift present in most of these devices or is it just the luck of the draw? Also, do the devices start that way or after some use does the issue rear its ugly head? Any advice before my purchase would be helpful! Thanks
It's present on every nexus 7 I've seen....so about 5 of them including my local Sam's club display model. That doesn't mean it's common but that is my experience.
I'm on my 8th N7 and its has a small amount of lift (0.5mm), its a C90. It used to be worse (1.5-2.5mm) until I slackened all the screws quarter turn on the raised side.
I just live with it now. If you don't look at it it's not there! Its going on eBay soon ready for the 32GB model.

I don't think my device has any screen lift, I did the squeeze test and didnt notice any movement or squeeking.
How can I tell if I have screen lift?
If you have it, it is hard to miss, the glass goes above the silver bezel on the left side. Mine was okay in he first few weeks, then the lift appeared. Nothing but glue worked for me and glue worked very well.

Transform nexus 7 into white tablet. Looks very nice!

Hi guys, I bought a decal skin sticker for my nexus 7 a few days ago from Stickerboy, and installed it. At first, it looked kind of weird but I think it's because I was so used to the black nexus 7. Now after a few days, it looks really nice. It feels like the tablet actually came in white.
You should also get the extreme version because that one will cover the back entirely, so it looks nice. I didn't get the centre screen protector. Not only it costs much more after that, I didn't know how it would work, like if it's a separate centre protector or if it's connected to the white front as one piece. If it's the latter, I think it will be better though as the sticker is actually thicker than I thought, so you can definitely feel it when you glide your finger from the sticker to the screen.
Anyway, I still like it a lot.
Ask me if you guys have any question!

Hey,
http://www.stickerboy.net/pages/nexus-7-1st-gen-skin-series this is the link for all the types of skin for nexus 7 1st gen.
What I have is this. http://www.stickerboy.net/collectio...lth-matte-antibacterial-nexus-7-1st-gen-skins
This is the super smooth finish version, but there is also the antibacterial one with grainy textured version for white as you'll find. I'm not sure how that one would look though. There is also this. http://www.stickerboy.net/collectio.../products/white-leather-nexus-7-1st-gen-skins Leather white. I personally think it would look a little bit weird with the texture, but not 100% sure.
I like the one I got for the most part. It's very smooth and feels nice, but when the tablet is warm, and your hands are also sticky, fingerprints stick to the back, and it kind of gets sticky from your hand, but after a short time, it just comes back to normal, smooth. and not really noticeable fingerprint. Just when the tablet is warm and you hand is sweaty.
Hope it helps!

Nice!
On the white one that you have, what's it like when it comes to general dirt? Does it wipe well, or does it easily retain dark marks and become dirty-looking quickly?
As for the link to the other skins, some actually look pretty darn cool!
Does it scratch easy? How about the corners? did it require using a hair dryer to soften it up? Im always worried that the corners will start peeling

Hey, I'm very sorry for late reply! I was expecting a notification from Tapatalk or something but there was nothing.
This one I have is very very smooth feel. Wipes super easily. Anything that gets on it, dirt, grease, they gets wiped very easily. But because of that, maybe it's not as grippy. But I don't mind personally.
Hope it helps!

As with my previous comment a few seconds ago, sorry for late reply! I haven't had any scratches yet. It seems pretty durable. Yea, I had to use hair dryer to soften it up the corners, then apply the corners. It's actually pretty simple. Just like you, I was worried because of the fact that I need to use hair dryer, so I first didn't buy this, but I was so temped, and decided to try. And there is a very helpful tutorial video on youtube, specifically for nexus 7 2012 version. It shows you regular fit and extreme fit, and for extreme fit, it will show you how to use hair dryer to get the corners. I followed that and it was pretty easy. Also, the video said, if you got it wrong, you should intentionally damage the skin and straighten it to reapply the corner. But I didn't do this as I was worried, I just peeled off the mistaken corner, and blow dried it and it softened up, and I just re applied and it worked fine.
One important tip, was that when you apply the corner as it was shown in video, you do the center of the corner first, then do the sides of the corner (you'll get it when you watch the video). You have to KEEP applying the blow dryer until you finish applying the corner. What I mean is..you should NOT stop the blow dryer after it seemed softened up. Keep applying the blow dryer until it softened up AND you have finished applying that one corner. Because when you stop the dryer, and apply with your finger, it will harden very quickly, and it will have wrinkles after you apply. I had this problem, and I peeled off again in the corner, and tried again, and it worked perfectly.
Hope if helps!
I had a skin on one of my older phones before. There is one thing people should think about. It didn't cross my mind until after I got the skin. Screen Protectors. The screen protector would have to go first, but you won't be able to take off the skin since the screen protector would come with it. LoL!!
This looks nice, but I replace my screen protector a bit often since it scratches. Guess I won't be getting this. =.[

S6 active glass cracked on the button on the edge

I've used it for 3 days. I'm too busy to buy a cover and a glass protector and wait to next week. But today it's broken on the corner near the button. No drop at all, it's still on my pocket when bicycling.
I think this is the flaw design, because when I press the button the broken glass piece move along with the button. The bottom of the S6 Active is very weak and easy to broken. I've used the Casio G'zOne Commando 4G LTE for 2 years and this is lasting for 2 years until I think it's not fast enough for me and want a replacement, 2 options kyocera brigadier or S6 active. I think it will give best performance. I'm correct, but it's just not tough enough.
It's still usable and I can't replace another one because I'm living outside the US. Anyone want to get this one should consider this fact.

Updated video show how soft the screen is.
Looks like you might have hit something with your leg while it was in your pocket? Don't think glass breaks this way if it's because of heating and the glass is pushed inside(or atleast it looks that way on the picture), which leads me think you did hit something. If it's true that's why you have flip covers and stuff for the phone that covers the whole screen, makes things like this almost impossible to happen

Yes, I put it in my jean pocket when ride a bicycle, so the pressure on screen might cause problem, but I don't thing I might make the screen cracked, anyway, I can't still use it as a usual S6 with a broken corner and without waterproof ). It's completely not rugged compare with my Casio.
The bottom of the screen phone is very soft that you might push and feel like empty inside. My opinion that the button design cause the problem.

Uhm to be honest, I don't think this was caused by pressure, if it was caused by pressure it wouldn't have just happened in the corner and be all over the screen. The image you show a burst not a crack(I mean the way the glass is broken makes it imossible to be cause of pressure of being in your pocket, providing the phone was put straight in) Also it's almost impossible to crack the glass by pressure of the S6 without bending the device itself(which is nearly impossible without brute force). This definitely looks like the device hit a corner of a table(for example).
Same issue
My Galaxy S6 Active cracked in the same spot, but on the opposite side. I was carrying a plate carrier while the phone was in the front pocket of my jeans. But I really feel that no impact was made. I also had a Gorilla Glass screen protector on the phone.

So that I'm not the only one who have this problem.
After a few days of using, the broken glass come out, I can clearly see there is an empty gap between the glass and panel. I don't know how much pressure could break it, but at the right angel, right place in a right time, I would be cracked. This is a design flaw .
My workaround is using a glass protector and have some sticker a round this place, then it will not notice me any more . And my next phone (hoping this one lasting 2 years) is some kind as http://www.kyoceramobile.com/durascout/
