Simple question: disable that annoying USB sound? - G1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just looking around for a solution to that annoying notification sound that blasts whenever I plug in my phone via USB. I think I disabled it once but I recently wiped and can't find any options to disable it now.
I know when I plug my phone into USB, I don't need a notification sound to let all my co-workers know I'm plugging in
I guess a temporary fix is to just turn off the volume, but I would very much like to just be able to disable the notification.

Hmmm... it is unchecked already. But the sound still is there when I connect USB.
Might be a bug in CyanogenMod 4.1.9.2? I recently updated to it and I didn't notice it on earlier versions.

I don't know about that. I've been to lazy to update so I just know that works on his earlier version.

Good call. I'll submit a bug report and see if anyone else has the same problem.
If it's just on mine, well FML then.

What is the exact notification name? Is is "USB Connected" or "USB debugging connected"

I get both, actually... not sure which one is giving me that sound either.

Well there's another thing to do would be just to disable your notification sound all together, but then you wouldn't hear if you get a message unless you use an alternate messaging app.
Where you been fingerlickin, this day is just draggin.

sorry, work is busy today.
you are getting the sound from both of them. one can be disabled by supreme's suggestion the other is disabled by disabling usb debugging mode in the development menu

Yessir, I'll give him one more day. He told me this morning he prolly wouldn't be on again today, but thats no excuse. You hear that out there Grid thats no excuse. If not we will have to dedicate something to him.

Yup, that worked, thanks.
Wonder if it will prove problematic for adb...?

I would assume, I would think whenever you use adb just remember to check that.

good.
keep in mind that ADB will not work and the su app might timeout with usb debugging turned off.

Simple solution is to set the windows device connect to none.

Can no longer mount as disk. Doesn't even present the option...

I'm on Fresh Toast 2.1 (official eclair w/ fresh customizations)
When I plug in a USB cable to my phone from any computer, from any OS (OS X 10.5, 10.6 and Win XP/7) I don't get offered the option to mount as a drive.
I looked in the 'Connect to PC' settings and tried it with 'Ask Me' both checked and unchecked. I also tried to make Disk Drive mode the default and that didn't help either. The only way I can mount it the SD as a drive is by rebooting to Recovery and toggling MS.
What a pain! Any ideas?
Are you using the app. Autostarts? I had that exact same problem until I realized that I disabled PC Synchronization (using Autostarts) from starting up when the phone boots. Once I re-enabled it again it worked just fine.
check on the top left of the status bar, if you can see a triangle with charge only, then slide down the status bar and press on charge only... let us know if this works. Also make sure that debug is off, menu> settings> applications> Development
Yeah, I'll bet what you did, dude, is set it to "Always use this option" when you plugged it in one time, maybe on purpose, maybe on accident, but who cares, that's probably what it is. Is that option even existing on certain roms? I just checked, mine doesnt say that. Worth a shot lol.

Crap, I think you're right! Trying this now; i disabled everything. Will report back with results.
UPDATE: Nope, that wasn't it. PC Synchronization isn't even an option for me to enable/disable.

Not the issue here. I'm not a noob.
But why disable debugging? I've always been able to do both simultaneously without issue. Until Fresh Toast 2.1, that is.

Negative.
Is it possible that it is recognizing it as a charger instead of a computer? Have you tried other cables and/or computers?

Oh weird. The PC Synchronization shows up in the section called After Startup for me. Hope you get it figured out.

What software is responsible for this? (Grrr.)

Every time I plug my Bionic into the computer, it goes to a Verizon Media Manager website.
What software is responsible for this sh*t???
The phone drivers. If you look down in your system tray for an icon with the Motorola icon, right-click it, then go to "When Device Connects...", then click Do Nothing.
Right click on the blue Moto icon in the system tray, then find the option where it says "When this device connects" and change it to "Do Nothing"
Edit: 3 seconds too late.

I know on my old Fascinate, computers that I had not installed drivers on, would do the same thing. However on this phone, I installed the drivers before plugging the phone in for the first time and it hasn't done it. Guess it doesn't really answer your question but just something I had also noticed.

I have all the drivers installed but I don't seem to have that icon in my system tray?
it happens with all moto phones not just this one

Also, the phone needs to be in a USB connection mode, not just a charging mode.
That was easy enough...
Thanks!
Don't understand why they need to spam the user as soon as they get the phone.

[Q] Any way to mount mass storage without doing it through the settings?

I am getting tired of going into the settings every time I want to mount my phone. Any other way to do this? If not, to Tasker I go...

yea, drag the notification bar down after plugging in the USB cable, and you can turn it on directly from there.
- Frank
That option was never there when I would plug it in. This is what I always did on my old phone.
It only work if you ticked USB Debugging Mode in Setting/app.

[solved] moto?

How do i keep all the motocast bs from poping up on my computer everytime i connect the two? It install's itself everytime and it drives me nuts
I am afraid this is from the driver. It is a pain whenever I am using Windows. Thankfully, it does not happen on Linux.

If you're talking about what I think you're talking about try this, it worked for me.
Next time you plug in your phone you should see an icon down in your taskbar that looks like a phone with a red dot in the lower right corner of it.
If you right click on that icon you'll get a popup menu that says "when device connects >" that'll take you to a second menu letting you set what happens. I chose the bottom option of "do nothing"
See if that solves the problem.
Thanks. I actually found the answer to my question the day before this thread was answered

USB Debugging Wont Stay Off

No matter what I try, I can't seem to get USB debugging to turn off. I am using the stock ROM, rooted with SuperSU installed.
If I disable USB debugging and disable developer options, it turns itself back on anyway as soon as I plug the cable in. Do I need to start from scratch to fix this? Google found lots of other people with the same problem on different phones and no fix =/

Mine seems to be intermittent but I don't recall it happening after rebooting the phone. I also haven't bothered rooting yet, but I did have this issue when I first plugged into my computer. Try reboot?
