WinMo 6.5 - Touch 3G ROM Development

So, now 6.5 is officially released, when are we going to get a proper base 6.5 ROM for our Jades? Come on, there's got to be a genius out there.

I guess all the chefs are waiting for an official HTC 6.5 final ROM dump. I mean that's what i would do, if i were a chef.

Really excited about it.Hope something will come up soon.

When is HTC likely to release an official 6.5 rom for this device?

hi
to my knowledge not now we need to wait for one of ur cooks to use one of the released Roms and cook a good bug free one for us

I asked HTC support a few weeks ago and they replied to me that they won't release a official 6.5 ROM for the Touch 3G. I guess they prefer to sell the Touch2 instead.

Apparently, the Touch 2 will be quite cheap in SEAsia, somewhere between the Opal and Jade. This with increased memory but same processor and same camera as Jade.

yeah i looked at a touch2 ...however the battery is only 1000amh....compared to our Touch 3G's 1100amh

Asked in HTC
I too asked in HTC support.
They told it would take some time for them to release the upgrade for our wonderful jade.
They told to visit HTC site regularly to know about the release.
Waiting for the upgrade.

Means that WinMo 6.5 will be officialy released for our Jade !?
OMG, can't believe it !

I very much doubt there will be an official 6.5 update. Look at it from HTC's point of view, there's just no financial reason to do it.

hi
u nailed it buddy im 100% with u but then we have great cooks so im sure well get a good clean bug free ROM soon

It's hard to figure out HTC's marketing strategy. They introduce a newer version of a product with the same or sometimes inferior features. Take the Touch cruise 2, for instance. The older one had a better camera. The screen of the Opal is lowered and that makes it hard to reach the close button. As for the official upgrade, the word out is it will only be for the diamond 2 and touch pro 2. But when it comes to hotfixes, jade comes in first with practically none= no major issues to fix.

I too have asked HTC support about WM6.5 and have gotten the same answer - no WM6.5 for the Jade. But i asked them some 3 weeks ago, or more. Things may have changed in the mean time.

I thought 21854 is the official release. My future release features 21859 so is a bit newer than the official . I solved a problem it had with office, my mistake after all. So the in the new megade wm 6.5 will have as much bugs as the official release. (maybe a bit less/more)

If u look at the specs of the Touch2, it's very clear it's just an upgrade on Jade. Apart from the improbable stuff like RAM and ROM. the rest are nearly a match. some of the features that jade lacks, just a couple of registry tweaks and shortcut assigned keys..and you're on the GO! Save $$$...and a prettier phone. LOL

More than a long shot I would say, since allowing Jade owners to update 6.5 would mean they would not have an incentive to upgrade to Touch 2. Phones like ours requires a lot of thought at the beginning and more user friendly phones like Nokia are hard to beat. Believe me, I've tried to convert quite a few people!

When will we be seeing an upgraded ROM From HTC support ?

I'm new to HTC and I have now had the Diamond for around 3 weeks, I do understand that no device is perfect when it is first released, actually no device is perfect . Later down the track I'm hopefull updates will be released to rectify some of these bugs we are experiencing! (especially the RAM leak, it's just plain nasty)
Now what is HTC like with there support, what is there timeframe with updates and new firmwares etc. ?
If you look to the kaiser then it will be a year from the release date.
I have no idea but have you checked HTCs website for any rom updates??. A forum member mentioned that there is a new rom out 1.35 i think. Best thing to do is head over to HTC and see if they have any updated roms or check in the rom section of this forum.

Yeh, i checked the site, HTC e-club Hong Kong, no ROM love there.
I hope that HTC will release updates on a more frequently basis, since HTC tried to make the Touch Diamond a real iPhone killer. Weather or not they succeeded in this goal, is open to discussion, but they will loose the battle for sure, if they don't manage to keep the customers happy.
One of the ways to keep the customers happy is to make sure they don't have to wait for almost a year on new updates. The phone was only recently released, so I'm not surprised that is has some minor issues here and there. I would be surprised if it would take months for the first update to appear, since there is more than enough feedback.
Yo HTC guys! Are you reading this? I'm afraid not...
I have insider info that the TFLO3D is being revised for better performance due to lag. We should see a ROM soon, either from me or HTC.
Hi guys, bought mine last week and my ROM ver is 1.35.
What do u guys have?
I have ROM 1.35 - seem to have many fewer issues than some others on here - e.g. TF3d reasonably respnsive without tweak, no excesive heat, very good voice qulity (inbound and outbound) on the phone, wife works fine etc.
The latest ROM is 1.37 but still not available at e-club for download, if your country do have a HTC service center then you can give them a visit to upgrade.

"Sorry, no 6.5 For You!"

...you really thought that HTC would do that!? If you thought that you were a dreamer! They like to sell new phones and not an old phone like the Kaiser
Windows Mobile 6.5 works on QVGA?
Out of interest, are any of the devices that will 'officially' be running Windows Mobile 6.5 QVGA? From what I see, the versions of 6.5 cooked into ROMS here are tweaked to fit on the smaller 320x240 screen - but the Touch Diamond 2 and Pro 2 are both WVGA devices with an 800x460 screen resolution aren't they?
If the 'proper' version of 6.5 is designed to work on VGA devices or better only, it's not surprising that HTC aren't planning on offering upgrades to older devices that don't support the higher resolutions. Sure, it can be made to work on older handsets - but not in the way Microsoft probably envisioned for their new release...
I might be wrong and I have my asbestos "flame-proof" jacket on, so I'm ready for the backlash
Actually, Microsoft has said that it will allow official upgrades on current 6.1 devices as long as they have a 400mhz processor and 128mb ram (plus the windows start key). The Kaiser meets all of those requirements, so it is eligible for an upgrade, but that would be at the discretion of HTC/carriers. I doubt that we will ever see an official upgrade due to the age of the Kaiser, but you never know.
More importantly, though, is whether it even matters. Do we even need an official 6.5 for the Kaiser to build off of, or can we do an equal/better job with the dumped 6.5 roms already being ported to our phone? I guess that would be a question I would put to our chefs out there.
Would it really be an 'upgrade' though if HTC provided it?
If the HTC Official WWE WM 6.1 'upgrade' for the TyTN II is anything to go by, I'd run a mile from any HTC provided WM 6.5 release for the TyTN II anyway. Apart from the fact there were so many bugs in the official WM 6.1 upgrade when compared to the relatively stable WM 6.0, it's clear from HTCs continual refusal to provide full (not partial) graphics driver support for even much newer devices, that they don't learn lessons from the past (or if they do, they don't act on them).
Given the TyTN IIs age now, I suspect if there was a further upgrade to come even the apprentice programmers' time would be considered to valuable for such a task and GPS, graphics performance and things like screen flashes when coming out of standby (all things still not fixed after nearly a year since the first WM 6.1 upgrade was released) would take a very low priority. I could be proven wrong but I don't have much faith that the HTC leopard would change its spots

I hope people don't misinterpret what I wrote, I believe the TyTN II was groundbreaking in its day and it certainly offered the right combination of features that other devices didn't have together in the one package. The problem is that there are a number of inexactitudes when comparing the actual device with all the advertising that was out for the device when first released (what I relied on for my purchase decision). Both advertiising from HTC and from Qualcomm the chip maker. Since then I've seen no indication that HTC is interested in maximising all the potential in this device to try and live up to those advertising claims and if anything their UK released ROM upgrade for my device actualy makes it worse. It's a sad state of affairs where a buggy 'upgrade' still hasn't been fixed nearly a year later and I'm fed up with sending letters to HTC which aren't listened to (not to mention the thousands of online petition signatories requesting full driver support for the embedded hardware actually on the device).
As someone who has worked as a computer technician I can tell you it is truely scandalous to release a product complete with an OS that doesn't have full driver support for embedded graphics acceleration and any full sized PC provider would not get away with it. Not only then but also the fact they haven't since come along with an update to address these concerns - hence my lack of faith in this company.
I would assume HTC's refusal to release system drivers would have to do with NDA's they signed with the various component manufacturers. I'm also relatively new to the world of XDA (but not winmo), so I would assume that this topic has been discussed to death on this site before.
@Flying Kiwi: I only had the Hermes for three weeks before I found a kickin deal on a Kaiser, but I have to agree it was a good phone. However, the upgrade to the Kaiser from the Hermes was worth the little extra I paid, if only for the gps and increased ram.
Not to get off topic, but does anyone else find Age of Empires to be incredibly addictive on a PDA?

No update to 6.5?

"We picked up on a couple of rumours from yesterday that an official X1 Windows Mobile 6.5 rom had surfaced on XDA developers. Just wanted to be clear that this isn’t true.
There is no official X1 6.5 rom and it’s not in the X1’s product roadmap. There are hackers out there who can do pretty much anything, but unless you’re getting it from the SE update service it isn’t an official Sony Ericsson product."
Source:
http://xperiancers.com/2009/09/10/x1-upgrade-not-in-the-roadmap/
Wait and see...
But even if they work on it, they will try to keep it secret as long as possible
But if they keep us waiting and it never does come.....
SE dont want to advertise that 6.5 is coming to x1 because they want people to get the x2 with 6.5 - after the x2 has been out for a while then they might release a 6.5 update to x1 i guess
hm... smells fishy. I wonder if Itje cares to comment on this.
No love for the X1 -- anyway...it looks like SE is ditching WM platform...
http://mobilitysite.com/2009/09/will-the-xperia-x2-be-the-last-winmo-device-from-sony-ericsson/
I was skeptical to begin with when itje announced his new ROM was being based on an official Xperia 6.5 leak.
Could be an X2 beta ROM.
Will it be possible to purchase 6.5 direct from MS and install on X1?
jhendra they said the same thing as well about the x1 sooooo...
"Will it be possible to purchase 6.5 direct from MS and install on X1?"
no ms never sold wm or windows CE to end users as it's without any drivers
so end users would never be able to make it work unless they had the platform builder
and all the drivers 100% matching the device they owned

Well, I don't feel sooooo screwed...
My phone works fine, I'm not dying for upgr.
But anyway - we'll see when WM6.5 is out,
too early to speak.
well i feel screwed, they managed to give the x2 drivers for a smooth panel interface and look at us idiots with a choppy panel manager, btw did i say the hardware is the same?
if they dont update our x1, u bet i wont be buying another SE device, i should have learned my lesson from the P series
Actually nobody said that there is an official X1-ROM with WM6.5 avaliable until now, itje didn't as well...
Itje just announced that he's got an official X1-WM6.5-kernel and some new OEM drivers. That makes the chance for a real official WM6.5-ROM via SEUS for X1 much more likely then before, we think.
as much as we all would love 6.5 upgrade, i think the most important upgrade the x1 could get is a smoother panel interface and new panels, even if its on wm 6.1
why is it that korea got spb mobile shell 3 and xtrakt?
what is so special about the korean xperia market than everyone else in the world?
i wont be surprised either if korea got the update we are looking for either lol
anyway, u have to admit, SE support is very very poor...i will wait and see what the next few months will bring...i dont intend to buy a new device just for a service pack upgrade which wm 6.5 really should be...
as i said, we dont have to get the 6.5, but damn, fix our damn 6.1 panel interface and give us more panels
if they dont upgrade the x1 to 6.5 then theres no way i am getting a x2 because it just shows how poor their after sale support is...

I'd like to get the 6.5 upgrade to utilize Marketplace.

Xperia X1 and WM 6.5 official ?

Hi Gents,
I just arrived in this wonderfull place. I browse it several time and find a lot of usefull information on so many topics (ROM and others).
But I was not able to find an answer to this question:
- Do you know if SonyEricsson will release an official ROM for wm6.5 on Xperia X1?
- If no, will it be possible to access to the market place using the ROM that we find here?
Thanks in advance
1. no there not
2. there is the marketplace cab on this website (do a search) and it works fine on 6.1.
I wouldn't be that sure to say no they will not, it is still to early to rule out completely an official wm 6.5 upgrade for the X1, though i would leave it at 50-50 chance of release at this time, and yes the marketplace is already in action on both the leaked 6.5 and the official 6.1
it would be bad for business for SE if they did
as benchmarks x1 vs. x2 show x2 is not faster
and it don't really pack that much extra features vs. x1
not a good way to make money if one kill the sale of a current device by
giving customers freebies so they will not buy a new phone

I'm going to stick with my super fast build of 6.5.3 that our wonderful cooks have provided. In my experience with past phones with T-Mobile and software updates then this new 6.5 from TMO will be very slow.... like a snail. I think the cooks here put together a much faster, more practical ROM. I agree that the news is terriffic for everyone not able to flash to a new ROM but I am excited to see what our cooks come up with next!
