a newbie with some questions about sprint hero. - Hero CDMA Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Happy new year guys.
I'll get my hero on 6th Jan. I am so exciting to get the phone.
However I have some some questions.
1 Does hero support Chinese? I know I can root it to make it transfer to Chinese. But I only want it show my contracts and Chinese websites.
2 You guys use the phone with any case? I don't know should I get a case for it?
Thanks in advanced.

I use the rubberized case out of preferance... when I got the phone it felt slippery, like it didnt fit snug in my hands... I will link you here a little later to the one I have.

Looking for a HTC universal

I do not know if you guys do not like this sort of post but if you do just say so and I will delete it.
Anyway, I am looking for a HTC universal. I am looking at ebay but I thought I would ask here first if anyone has one they are willing or want to sell.
Keep up the great work on it all. I can't wait to have a mini-linux laptop for my pocket

I have one that I bought on ebay last summer. I fell hard for the Polaris so that's what I'm using now. Anyway, I've been meaning to put it on ebay since I got my new toy but time doesn't allow. As much as I love my UNI, it's too huge for me!!! Just PM and let me know...
By the way, I'm willing to part with all of the units listed in my signature except my two lastest, Nike and Polaris.
Yes, HTC has made me become an addict for their phones... I mean computers that can make calls
Talkin' about Universal, does any one of you know, if i can get the outer panel/cover of my O2 XDA Exec replaced. Is there any such accessory available in market ?

New or Used?

Ok guys, I need a bunch of good opinions real fast like. I'm shopping for a new tilt online. Yea, I'd love to buy a REAL TYTN II but I don't have that kind of money to throw around right now. I figure that you are paying more for a name, some different paint, a camera and that's about it. So an att tilt will just have to do. I can always flash the firmware to the latest htc spec. So, with all that in mind I need to know what I should do. I've been looking on ebay and they have used tilts for around 250-350 dollars. They are all in good condition... they say, and come with everything. I'm thinking about buying one of these "slightly used" ones, assuming they really are just that. OR I can buy a brand new tilt, fresh out of the box for around 400-450 dollars and know that no one else has touched it. Money is kinda tight, but I don't want this breaking on me either, it's got to last a long while. New or used? Appreciate it. SPACE
1) Line breaks are your friend.
2) If you are going to buy used, just make sure you get some kind of warranty to cover you in the event of hardware failure. Squaretrade sells warranty that cover everything short of losing your device, and AT&T offers insurance for $5/mo that will replace lost/stolen devices. Of course you need to be an AT&T customer for that last option.
AT&T is also selling refurb Tilts for $149 right now, but that requires a 2 year contract.
I just love these threads. Why should I buy "x"? The UTLIMATE reason to buy ANYTHING is because "YOU WANT TO!"
If you look at the price, specs, and reviews and it doesn't give you a boner, then you probably will not be satisfied with it. But if looking at the information gets you excited, then you should buy it.
Anything Treo, Myself, or anyone else says is secondary. Only you can look at something and know that is what you want.
jimmy is that post stuck on your clipboard right now? SPDT(same post different thread) the only difference is the name on the last line.
btw i think that is the greatest quote ever
"If you look at the price, specs, and reviews and it doesn't give you a boner, then you probably will not be satisfied with it."
to the op, don't do a refurbished phone with att, my original stopped working and they have sent 5 to me, 3 with broken USB ports, 1 broken screen, and one without a working radio, plus that last one wasn't recognized by my comp if it was in bootloader
I think you should buy both...used and new... and then see which one you like better. Which ever one you do not like, put in in a blender and make a video of it being shreaded and then upload it to YouTube and then we can all watch it. FANTASTIC! THANKS FOR THE THREAD!

dude, I've wanted a phone like this before they even existed, ever since I was a kid watching star trek (old and new), I've had a boner for this phone for ages! My question really is should I buy used and save some money? I don't know because I don't know how reliable the phones can be... so, I thought I'd ask. This is my uber phone fcol! For now anyways...

If that's the case you do not want sloppy seconds. When it comes to my Device Addiction I must have New.

Same here, with only a few exceptions. Phones however, must be new and free of anyone else's "cooties" before I stick it up to my ear.
NEW NEW NEW, the one year warranty is priceless to me.
alright well I'm probably going to buy a new one but I'm not going to buy it from the att store. 500+ is too much for something that is going to drop in price asap. I'll buy a new one in the box off ebay unless you guys know where I can get one cheaper.

Short video clip of touch pro..

I came along this and thought some people would like to see it...

No idea if its been posted before =\
Neways..
Njoy
Nice find, I was looking for a video of this phone for a while now. thanx
*drool*
It is looking so nice... and you can very well see how think it is
Since it is not thinker than my current SE 810i I have no problem with the size and I am very much looking forward for its release
im using a nokia n73..so its a bit slimmer. Still im questioning the keyboard...it looks great, but ill need to see both the diamond and touch pro to decide =\
Thx for that. That is the one for me...
I have a Vario II/Tytn/Hermes and to be honest I never used the keyboard. Then I discovered one day in work I lost my stylus. So I decided to use the keyboard... and I'm like "why didnt I do this two years ago!" I would really miss the keyboard now, and entering numbers looks to be so much easier on that one.
Just hope the UK carriers release it....
It's definitely on T-Mobile isn't it?
It know it's got a keyboard but it's a damn thick thing though compared to the Diamond. That will never fit in my shirt pocket.
Its coming on t-mobile as the Vario 4 i beleive.
t-mobile actually announced it before HTC..so its definitely coming there.

Upgrade Advice

I currently have a Kaiser (HTC TyTnII on UK Orange) but have only just looked into the HTC Touch Diamond... and wow, does it look nice!
On the Orange website it's saying I can't upgrade my phone until May next year. eBay has the Diamond at around £350.
So, I guess I'm wondering if anyone can advise me. Are Orange likely to cut me a deal if I call them up? I guess I'm bound to a contract with them at present so I can't say I'm leaving them. Will it be easiest just to buy one from eBay?
Is it worth it? Is the Touch Pro out or coming out soon? Should I wait for that?

If you can't upgrade until May then you'll get little joy out of Orange I'm afraid. You have to be in the last three months of your contract before they'll let you upgrade. However, saying that you've got nothing to lose by calling them and you may be able to get a deal if you change your package to a more expensive one.
Cal them first before going the eBay route - as I said you've got nothing to lose.
Is it worth it? Hell, yeah! I was torn between the Diamond and waiting for the Pro, but impatience got the better of me and I plumped for the Diamond.
Even though I've only had it a day I can definitely say that it is fantastic! It's up to you if you want to wait for the Pro. I've come from a TyTN II myself and I sat back and really thought about it before going for the Diamond, and basically asked myself two questions:
1. How often did I use the keypad? Very rarely, maybe three times in the eight months that I owned the phone.
2. How much free space did I have on my 4Gb SD card? 2.5Gb, so for me having 4Gb of non-upgradable storage wasn't an issue.
The final thing that swung it for me was the size of the thing. It's good to have a PDA that's "phone sized", rather than being a huge brick.
Thats a good idea Have a word with Orange and twist there arms, see what you can do. I think my missus is due an Upgrade in August and im sure she will go for the Diamond (but as shes skint, I think shes gonna put it on eBay!!!!!!!)
I love my diamond and have used phones with hardware keyboards and like the post above says, how often do you really use it?
Software professionals and IT gurus would probably miss it as im sure using a hardware keyboard and using the Remote Desktop software is a great combination, but the VGA screen is excellent on the Diamond, its the best phone ive ever owned (and ive had quite a few...see my signature!)
Diamond = Thumbs up. Theres sooo much software and tweaks out at the moment with more software coming out just around the corner!
The futures bright, the futures...errr...Diamond? hehe!

Wow, how did you cope without the keypad? I think I probably use it 10-20 times a day and this is the main reason I'm holding back on upgrading I guess.
It looks a fantastic piece of kit... but I don't think I'd like using an onscreen keyboard
How long have you been with Orange?
If it's over a couple of years remind them how much money they have had off you and if that doesn't work tell them you will consider cancelling the contract. Generally they want to keep customers so will eventually give in.
Also, it's always good to ask to speak to their line manager if they can't help.

Free full body guards (like invisibleshield)

Get them while they are still free. Just pay shipping. $2.85 each.
Since I'm a Magic owner, thought I'd share. Dun feel like posting this in every single forum for the phones that they have.
I also submitted the news to the XDA Portal in hopes of attempting to let everyone else know aswell.
[edited] they include 2 full guards per order, incase you mess up putting it on. If you don't you've got a backup. Pretty cool of them. Plus they offer lifetime replacements.
Thanks
Just placed my order, thank you.
Issue
When I place my order, the final step, I get this: Transaction cannot complete:
The transaction cannot complete successfully. Instruct the customer to use an alternative payment method.
Any Help?
Thanks for the info btw!
EDIT: Got it fixed and made my order DDD
i just placed my order. thank you very much
placed an order on thursday but has not shipped yet, has yours OP?
I placed an order on the 11th (wed) and it didn't ship until the 16th (mon). Not super quick but I can't complain for $2.85. I'll try to remember to post what I think of it when it arrives, but I'm not getting my hopes up too much.
I already ordered 2. Thanks for the info.
I cant find bodyguard for the htc magic on the site...
Sent from my HTC Magic using XDA App
Thanks for the info! I didnt know that my touch and magic are the same.

well I'm disappointed. Thr skins themselves are of very good quality however some off the skins I received were perfect while others were not.
The Magic and Evo skins were perfect.
Some off them were cut so close to perfect but ever so slightly to large which made it impossible to set it correctly without trimming it back after install else it would lift when touched. Thr arias was this way.
The nexus one skin however, wasn't cut properly. You can see were it was supposed to be cut, but it wasnt cut all the way thru so there is just an outline were the cut should be.
I guess it's hit out miss with these skins. Hows everyone elses?
Still haven't got mine, whats the shipping time on these?
I ordered 2 about an hour ago. I can't wait for them to arrive. I am hoping they are somewhat as good as invisibleshields. I will post a review when I get it and then again after I have had it for a while.
A lot of people on other forums are saying the shields are complete crap.
Google "stealthguards scam"
thanks a bunch, i just got one. that was a great deal.
I got mine yesterday, and i love it! the back part of my phone hasnt competely cured yet, so there are a couple of small air bubbles, but if thode dont't go away, i'll just poke a hole and squeeze the air out.
i got them in 5 business days.
where to order?
How did these covers hold up?
