This a good deal? - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV General

Hey, my eternal search for a new phone has finally brought me here. Anyway, i've got an offer of a (used, unlocked) HTC Diamond for £115 delivered. Should i go for it? Seems in reasonably good nick:
http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll298/v88p/DSCF1089.jpg
http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll298/v88p/DSCF1092.jpg
http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll298/v88p/DSCF1094.jpg
and it comes with Tomtom Europe. Although a new T-Mobile Pulse (3.5" Android phone, a few 'corners cut' if you know what i mean) is only £150 and a TG01 (4.1" WinMo Snapdragon device) is £160. Then you start getting onto stuff like a used Magic or a new HTC Tattoo or Touch2 but they're not really the best value for money.
So what do you think, Diamond or other? Cheers.

help
there are a few things to be careful of with the diamond problems that you may not notice until you have used it for a while
1. camera often breaks just don't load sometimes
2. they develop battery problems drains way to fast
3. wifi connection problems
if you can use the phone for a day or 2 before buying it would help
ps. has it got the original charger???????

It's on Amazon marketplace so i can't really use it before hand... the actual product description is:
Unlocked, boxed, general wear and tear, phone in good working order. Comes with tomtom europe pre-installed, original charger, in car charger, car windscreen mount, 3.5 headphones adaptor, usb battery charger.

Orange SPV M1500 -- Question...

I just purchased an SPV M1500. Is this the same as the XDA IIi? I bought it already unlocked. Are there any differences in the ROM besides splash screens / logos? Is there a way to put the O2 XDA IIi ROM on this device?
Last question... I bought it from someone in the UK, and I live in the US, I currently subscribe to Cingular Wireless. Has anyone had issues with this?
Any reply would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Brock
Same device, slightly different looks.
All Alpine ROMs will work and the splash images etc can all be changed, at ROM upgrade or later. Find a ROM you want and follow instructions.
The device is tri-band so long as you live in an area where you don't need quad band you'll be OK.
Any more questions, there are plenty of people here to ask, just don't ask the dreaded WM5 question, the answer will be NO.
Good luck.
LOL!! I got that loud and clear. I thought people were supposed to be reading through the forum for their answer before posting stupid/redundant questions??? NO WM5, at least yet. I don't have a desire for that right now anyways. What would be the benefit?
The earth is so small. You know what, you have bought the phone from me on ebay, Brock Miller. Have you received the phone yet? I could give you help on upgrading the phone, if you needed it. At the moment, if you wanted the latest rom, then it is imate PDA2 ROM.
Nam? Oh my gosh!!! I can't believe you frequent this site as well? Wow... Thats cool. It is indeed a small world. No I haven't received the SPV-1500 yet, I was just asking a few questions about it before hand. I can't wait to get it though. I'll drop you an e-mail when it comes in. Have a good one!
It's nice to meet you here as well. The phone will arrive very soon. Keep the eyes on your work place, you will need to sign for it. Give me a sound when you need helps and have fun with the phone.
Yes! It was.
Will I personally have to sign for it? Or can my shipping department sign for it?
Also, what phone do you have now?
as long as you could arrange someone to sign for it, then that's fine. I think I just buy a cheap phone for now, untill the new HTC Muse comes out. This would be the best phone ever.
Except for the 4GB of storage, and the camera it looks like the HTC Universal has better specs. Why the muse? I really would have liked to have bought an HTC Universal, but I couldn't find any that were reasonably priced, .
Simply, because it is very compact, has everything that I wanted. I originally had the VPA compact which is HTC Magician, but it doesn't have wifi built in that why I sold it. I also did have HTC Universal ( SPV M5000 ) once and I do not advice you to get one. No only because of the price ( I got it for £250 ), it is also very very slow ( before buy it, I thought it would be very fast, but it's not, even slower than HTC wizard ) and bloody massive. I had it for one day and sold it the next day, you can imagine how dissapointed I was.
The only good thing about the HTC Universal is the infrared transfer speed ( 4mb/s ) and range ( 7 metres ) which is good for TV remote control softwares. However, that is not good enough for the price.
Wow, that would be very diappointing. What did you not like about the HTC Alpine? Too bulky also?
The HTC Alpine is not as big as the HTC Universal and HTC Blue Angle ( actually it is quite compact for such a powerful device ), has wifi built in, powerful processor ( don't be confused with the Intel PXA 270 520MHZ of HTC Universal, it is Intel PXA 272 520MHZ ) and better bluetooth than other HTC device ( support file transfer service and more ). The only thing that I do not like about it is that the infared range is too short ( 70 cm ) for Remote control programs which is the same on other HTC devices, except for the HTC Universal ( 7 metres ) and HTC magian ( 3 metres ) ( that's why I sold it ). But if you can live with it, then the HTC Alpine is the best Mobile Phone/Pocket PC to have at the moment in term of features and price.
I just received the SPV M1500!! Even though you tried, the power adapters that you sent were the wrong kind. The U.S. uses 110 V. Also, all looks ok, but it showed more wear than I thought it would. There was a scratch on the screen, a tiny crack just above the "joystick" hole, and the external antenna port hole cap is missing (not a huge deal, just doesn't look as good with out it). Do you know if TomTom has a US map available to buy?
As my description the phone is used. I am so sorry, if it dissapointed you. TOMTOM and USA map are already included on the DVD, just follow the installation guide that is also in the in the box. Let me know anything that I could help you with. I will try to find the cover at the back for you, if I could not find it, then I would refund you some money, so you could get a new silicon case for it. Really sorry.
No way!! No this is fine. Its still a very nice phone. If you can find the cover, that would be nice, but I don't expect a refund by any means. I still got a good price. I need to find an AC adapter for this cradle though. I imagine that won't be too hard to come by, I just hope it doesn't cost too terribly much. Thanks again for the phone. I am overall pleased. It is so much better than my Wallaby. Also, I can charge it in the wallaby cradle for now. I was lucky, it fits, not quite right, but good enough. Thanks again. Also, I see where there is indeed USA maps with TomTom included. Sorry about that.
Brock
Or can I just send you some softwares in return? Just name the softwares, I will find them for you. I am now selling some softwares for pocket pc on ebay, just take a look, if you like them, let me know I will send them to you. Also I just find out that if you installed Imate PDA2 ROM UPDATE, the infrared range will be incresed to about 3 metres. If you was not so sure how to install ROM UPDATE, let me know, I will give you the web link with installation guide.
Hello Coldwave
sorry to gatecrash on your post , i have the o2 flavour of this device, would i be able to flash it with the imate rom, also do you know if i could use an orange rom as well, as my work is now changing to orange from o2.

All HTC Alpine devices have the same hardwares. Therefore, it is possible to change ROM between different made like Imate, Qtek, Orange, etc. However, you must follow some steps to avoid Country ID error.

What would be your other choice for a phone if the Kaiser didn't exist?

What phone would you get or have gotten????
ATT 8525, but they ran out of stock right when i purchased my phone, i begged and haggled with my dad, so i ended up getting the 8925/Tilt
Nokia N95 - 3

ipaq if they ever release it, M800 just kinda meh 64mb ram???, N95 8gb if there was an expansion slot somewhere... I mean, its pretty expensive for something that will ALWAYS be limited to 8gb.
I'm trying to find a quad-band equivalent to the w960i, as the premium we're paying for a QWERTY keyboard is still in the "ridiculous" stage.
And I'd rather keep Exchange Activesync functionality so don't bother mentioning the jesus phone again.
I thought id be able to eliminate my ipaq after i bought the tytnii; however, i still have my ipaq as my tytnii just does not work to replace my ipaq because it such a poor device; in reality, it makes a poor cell phone and a poor ipaq replacemet; it does niether well.
After my experience with the tytnii, my next cell phone will be a regular cell
phone such as the razor and i am just going to keep using my ipaq.
In reality, if hp would just make an ipaq with the 3.5 inch touch screen to work as cell like the htc touch, i would buy as hp makes good products (i always like there ipaq products and always wished they had a phone option available for any model). Was looking at the newer hp cell phones coming out; but they either seem rather bulky due to the full blown keyboard or seem to have a small screen - i like the 3.5" screen models.
I know htc has some models that have a 3.5" screen; but i dont think htc has there act together and i no longer trust buying any smart phone from them; particularly, an expensive one.
i would have kept my sony ericsson p1i
N95 8GB or the N82, but they lack the moddabilt of WM phones which I love
Iphone 3G or one of the new I-Mate series.
I would still have my iPhone.
Is still have my T680.
And ill be $750 richer .
I would still have my hermes and be waiting for the imate 9502 (if it ever comes) or the next gen iphone.
Having gone symbian and palm before I'm not going there again!!

It's just too late...
iphone 3G + TomTom .... or i-mate 9052
Perhaps, we never satisfy with what we have on our hands until we've lost it. Some other devices seem to be better than ours at first, but they might not be what we expected them to be. We always greed for more, to satisfy our thirst. Indeed, our thirst is never satisfied enough.
It's another quiet morning in Washington, DC after the Shocking Tuesday =)

First, let me say i did not send my device back as i thought the software problems would be fixed; however, it is now looking like no software fix is coming given htc response.
I am complaining heavily because i thought the tytnii would replace my ipaq. I thought i would be able to take notes and do other things "while on a call" just like i do with my ipaq (with the use of seperate cell phone). I thought it would be great if this could be boiled down one device.
However, to use the tytnii as an ipaq "during a call" i need speaker phone to work so that i can see and use the screen so i can access and write data on the screen; however, the speaker phone is defective in most tytnii (if not all). i can hear the caller fine; but they cannot hear me or say i am garbled. Sending the phone in for warranty (which provides for repair or replacement of t does nothing the phone) does nothing to resolve the speaker problem as the replacement is also defective. I think this defect relates to sometype faulty softtware or registry setting; however, currently trying to fix this remains elusive.
The defective speaker is the reason i consider the tytnii a poor cell phone. The inability to use the screen during the call is why i consider it a poor ipaq as my ipaq recieves most of its use "during a call". I am not trying to nit pick; only saying that the tytnii cannot perform as an all in one device if you intend to use it "during a call" as the device is fundamentally flawed for this use.
I post this to help others not make the same mistake. If anyone has suggestions on all in one device that will actually also function as an ipaq "during a call" and that has a decent speaker phone i would like to hear. Ever since i have owned an ipaq, i always wished it had a built in cell phone. My "wish list" is that hp would make all of its ipaq models available with a cell phone option - i really like the 3.5" screen models (without the keyboard --- i find the ones with the full blown keybard are a little to bulky). But this is just a wish list.
my speaker phone works flawless.. i have a tilt
You are lucky with regard to having speaker phone that works. What radio rom you have; there is another person in the forum that is returning his tilt for the 5th time today in an attempt to resolve the speaker phone probelm; maybe if his works also; I might be able to exchange/get replacement phone to resolve speaker problem as so far it has been difficult for me to resolve.
N95 and my dusty StowAway keyboard while waiting for the SE P5. I couldn't go back to an 8525 as the Tilt has really spoiled me in terms of speed and, more importantly, stability.

4 in 1 cable for u1000

I might be visiting singapore sometime soon.
I am looking for the 4 in 1 cable to be used with my dopod u1000.
Anyone knows the best place in singapore where i can have the best chance of finding a used 4 in 1 cable for u1000?
I really love the dopod u1000 and i use it together with my k800 mobile.
I am quite satisfied using the pocket pc functions without the phone function at the moment. The big screen is simply excellent for ebook reading, surfing the net and writing notes or reflections.
I also realized that with the proper softwares, u1000 can become an even a better phone than my normal sony ericsson k800.
It can be used to automatically send sms replies to callers when i am busy. (with k800, i can't automatically send sms replies to callers)
It can be used to voice dial phone numbers through bluetooth headset (with k800, i cannot dial phone numbers. I can only create voice tags for an existing contact and dial that contact.)
Although i love the u1000 very much, i am having a hard time to let go of my old Dell axim x51v. The Axim was my favourite pocket pc for a long time and the u1000 is the only worthy replacement of my axim 51v.
Ask the guys in www.ppcsg.com. They should be able to tell you where to go. The most popular place has been the Funan centre and Sim Lim Square, but that may be only for the device. Not sure about the cable itself.
4 in 1 cable
Thanks eaglesteve, I will check with these 2 places. By the way, i am a great fan of everything you have written about the u1000. I have learned a lot by reading your reviews and i find it easy to agree with many things you said. Thanks for sharing your experiences about pocket pcs.
With the Axim, i was rather adventurous with unofficial roms. One of the best rom for the axim was in fact created by a russian programmer that goes by the name, "Football." His rom made wonders out of the axim.
I am sure there are also great unofficial roms for the u1000. Although i do not have the courage yet to try any yet but i am rather interested with your experiences and reviews on the few unofficial roms available. Which rom are you using or have used by the way?
no 4 in 1 cable in funan, singapore
Came back from singapore. walked the whole of funan it mall. a few shops carry the u1000 but no one has the 4 in 1 cable in their stocks. I may be wrong but i felt that the retailers there were not much in touch about what pocket pc lovers need. I am not just talking about the u1000 but other range of pocket pcs as well. maybe they need to read up articles on forums like this one a bit.
Why not just bite the bullet and order it from Expansys.
I ordered it on a Monday and had it Tuesday am.
4 in 1 cable
Yes, i was thinking of doing just that. i have also found some external chargers that might work with my dopod u1000.
hey, i noticed that you too like me have moved from the Dell axim x51v to the advantage htc. It seems that those who appreciate the Axim will also most likely be able to appreciate the Advantage (dopod u1000).
I am supposed to sell my axim to earn back some money. at least that was what i told my wife i would do when i bought my u1000. But until now i am kind of reluctant to do that. The axim was such a fabulous device especially with the unofficial wm6.1 rom update from a russian developer "football."
TV out from 4 in 1 lead
Hi all,
While on the subject of 4 in 1 leads, does anyone know if any of the outputs will play sound as well as video from these leads. I got video only working off the yellow av plug. not tried the others yet

as far as i know, it is meant for shwing slide presentations so you get only the pictures. If you want the sound, you will have to get a cable that connects to the ear phone socket at the side of the Advantage (u1000).
The Axim i had works this way.
Maybe a silly question but are there any alternatives to the 4 in 1 cable... I just want a simple direct htc to usb cable.
Thanks

Hi nor11wan,
Yes, dell axm is really a great pocketpc. I have been using football, lenny L11 and now Makuu A09 VOIP gold found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=439586
Unfortunately, I have not been following up on axim 50. I think it is possible that football might have produced something for the dell axim 50. Hope you can find it.

have any one experienced this !

you know the only us port in the kaiser where you charge and where you connect it to the pc. when you first buy the kaiser it would be wonderful then couple months later ..it becomeshappy and doesn't work as good. it starts either rocking or the "teeth" inside start to move that will cause problems with connections and charging.
same thing happened to me with my universal so I threw it away ..but I love this kaiser I have what would be another alternate solution ? please I would appreciate your help.
Yes this is fairly common with this phone. Normally service is suggested.
Warranty FTW!
Just be careful when your plugging and unplugging the device. i.e. take it out and put it in straight, not at any angles.
If you search broken miniusb you'll find several threads. One is of mine when it broke. It was charging in the car and dropped and the "male" part of the extusb on the phone cracked.
I went to an At&t service center, the guy looked at it, told me its frequent and handed me a new device.
that's the problem ...I bought it over ebay

oh wow..thanks man!

I never thought that at&t might have a technical support department..
but that's wonderful.
I know it's a little expensive but i't worth it when you can't live without your ppc.

PPC-Techs is not AT&T technical support, but I highly recommend them. I have used their screen protectors on my devices since my Ipaq 1900. Their customer serices is excellent.
I just had the mini usb replaced on my Tilt by PPCTechs. HTC wanted over $350 to repair. PPCTech was about $75. Excellent service and high speed.

[Q] I just bought a TyTN II

Greetings
I just bought a TyTN II from ebay.. I thought it would be a nice addition to my ever so small collection of PDA's, and it was relatively cheap.
Here's the link (remove spaces):
ht tp://c gi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260569169356#ht_3409wt_1276
Now, the seller claims it to be 100% oem, but I'm not completely sure.. In case it's a knockoff, I'll use Paypal to get my refund
So my question is, what do you guys think? is this the real deal, or just another fake TyTN II? I've heard about the knockoffs, but I havn't seen anyone.
You call that cheap? That's the real deal though.
yeah well, it's about 1/4 of retail price back in the days it's not too bad for nice little gadget like that
the auction doesn't display any photos of the actual phone, but I'm pretty confident that it's a legit OEM phone by the description, price and the claims made by the seller that it's "100% brand new & genuine or money return", even though it ships from HONG KONG
Anyway, what would a knockoff be like? and what's the price for one of those? What would one look for, in order to spot the knockoffs?
Cheers
Sorry for bumping this thread, but can anyone else confirm this is the real deal, so I can have some peace of mind?
Show us some real picks of it and we will tell you 100%
We know about this phone not the knock off's. If it doesn't look like the one in the pics then it's not what it says it is. It's a 3 year old phone, I wouldn't worry so much about knock off's.
Well, that would be like getting a picture from e.g t-mobile of the specific device you're gonna order. The seller is a powerseller with several (10+ in description) htc tytn II's.. When I ask him he keeps reassuring me that the phone is as described with official specs and pics from HTC and that it's 100 % brand new & genuine.
Would you feel good about this, or would you prepare for a full refund?
Well, I just got my Kaiser Eventhough it's a KAIS100, it has a front camera in addition to the rear-facing one. HTC could confirm it was the real deal, but... i think about the ONLY thing OEM in the package was the phone.... There were 3 chargers in the package (none of which fit !!!!) and i'm not too sure about the battery which said DynaPack on the outer side, and had å chrome-like inner side.
and btw, the battery is behaving weird. the phone takes a very long time to charge. lets say i have 50% battery, and i start charging for 30 min, and i end up with 55% battery.. then i reset my phone, and upon boot i all of a sudden have 82% (for instance)... i don't know if it's just old, or fake..

I have had three batteries so far for my Kaiser. One was the " chrome type " back, that was the original and the other two were cheap replacement batteries that were all black except for the terminals. They all worked the same.
I would just buy a new battery , seeing as the phone is new to you. Might as well start out with a new battery too.. If HTC ran the serial number and says the phone is legit, I wouldn't worry about wether it is real or not.
DENNCCOOOO
What he said.
Well, it seems its actually a modified AT&T Tilt with a added front camera. Void seals were broken, I think both front and backcover is fake, and the voicedialbutton doesn't show a image of a "speech bubble" but PTT (which seems to be used on AT&T phones)
An ATT Tilt is still a Kaiser..

Ok, a Kaiser has a front camera, does the Tilt?
That's pretty strange, they replaced everything but the insides? The Keyboard isn't from a tilt (as far as I could tell).

Yeah, very strange indeed. It seems as they took a tilt, put on a front camera, changed the housing and keyboard (it's not even a wwe keyboard - it has some chinese letters and other layout on the Fn-keys) and hspl'ed the phone with the first OliP0f hspl.... Either way, after confronting the seller, he did admit that it wasn't a unlocked HTC TyTN II, because they got the best prices on these phones from carriers... He also proposed to give me a 70 USD refund, and a HTC bluetooth headset as a compensation, after i expressed my dissapointment with the phone.
Well, i'm still not sure if the battery is OEM, and also if the housing and keyboard is OEM, but i guess i'll never know for sure
