'Roam-only' mode in Android on Vogue? - Touch CDMA Android Development

How do I put my Vogue Android in 'Roam only' mode? (running RLS3 of myn's Warn Donut).
Thanks

Just wanted to chime in to say that this is a big deal to me, too, but for different reasons.
I live in an area with fringe Sprint (my carrier) reception, so when I'm at home I like to force roaming on my current phone (a Palm) to switch to the Verizon tower, which gives me much better signal. I just got a used Touch, however, for the purposes of flashing to Android, so hopefully this won't be a deal-breaker if no force roaming method exists under Android. I have heard you can force 1x RTT, which may result in a more reliable signal in fringe areas.

Now back to my point...where is the setting in android to do this? Is it the "2g only" network mode?

Some posts and content related to breaching ToS has been removed.
The original question is simple and legitimate. Do not stray into areas to do with breach of contract.
Thanks

"non-legit"??? you removed the part where I just stated what the actual Verizon rep told me. How is this not legit if a Verizon representative instructed me to do it?? I am confused. Also, there is nothing in the Verizon contract that says you are not allowed to put your phone into roam-only mode. I need to know why my post was moderated...the explanation given is not sufficient.

dude... where do you get this sense of entitlement? You're lucky he didn't delete the whole post. You're discussing breach of contract and fraud if you want to be technical. Just because a Verizon rep told you to do something doesn't make it legit... Learn to be more tactful

I worked in the wireless industry for years. Had I been caught telling a customer to do that I would have been kicked out the front door. That rep had some guts.
What you asked is a touchy subject though as roaming to breach contract is network fraud in the US.

Just to be clear on this, I read the whole Verion TOS...took me 2 hours - uggh. There is nothing in their contract about intentionally setting your phone to Raom only, or any other mode for that matter. It does talk about modifying the "hardware" but says nothing about software modifications other than warranties will not be supported if customizations are made outside of the standard updates released by Verizon.
So, this is obviously not the case with Verizon. It may be with other carries like ATT, etc...but according to the Verizon TOS (which is what I am bound to since I am a Verizon customer), there is nothing mentioned about this at all.

I don't see any [voice] roaming settings here.
I have the following in the Mobile Networks menu:
Data roaming
Use only 2G networks
Network operators
Access point names
Selecting "Network operators", I get a screen that says "Searching..." but never returns with any results.
BTW, this is with Myn's Warm Donut release 3.

Still wondering how to force roaming...
Anybody have any suggestions?

Me too, but I'm not interested in breaching my contract. I just want to use the Verizon tower when I'm at home.
Here's a method that's been reported to work on the Hero and Moment. I may try it on my Vogue.
Also, the general lack of roaming settings for CDMA Android has been flagged as an issue on Google code. I urge everyone to go to the issue page, scroll down to the bottom, and click the star to raise the priority level of this issue. Thanks in advance.

Update
Attempting the method posted by KERKEDAGAIN (quoted below), I cannot get my Vogue to show up as a port on my Vista box. I've tried installing various drivers, with no luck.
KERKEDAGAIN said:
Alright folks..I think i may have stumbled upon a workaround to force roaming!!
Procedure:
1. Download and install the diagnostics drivers for the Hero
2. Download the latest version of QPST (i'm using 2.7 build 323)
3. On your phone make sure USB debugging is turned on and push ##3424# in your phone keypad
4. Plug your phone in via USB and install the diagnostics drivers when prompted
5. If you've installed the drivers correctly, you should be able to go to Device Manager in control panel and see it registered as a COM port/USB diagnostic device
6. Next open QPST Service Programming>Connection>New. You should see your phone/COM port and you obviously choose that.
7. Choose "Read from phone" in the lower left hand of the window, after which you'll be prompted for your service programming code/MSL (Google your way to find it if you don't already have it)
8. Whence you have entered that code you'll see your phone info around
9. Go to the System tab (5th tab in my setup)
10. NOW..what worked for me was this setup: Preferred Mode: Digital Only (upon further investigation, apparently "Automatic" works as well) Band Preference: A Only (as a side note B Only worked for me as well) Roam Preference: Automatic
11. Press Write to Phone
12. Reboot your phone
That should do it!! If alls done right you should see the familiar Roam triangle over your service bars! Hope it works fer ya..to change back from roaming only change everything back to Automatic.
*DISCLAIMER*: I've been messing around with my phone's service programming quite a bit so this may only work for me cuz of some erroneous change I made to the internals. Also I've only tried this in an area that I know I can get signal at, so whether it is TRULY roaming, I don't know. All I do know is that it says Roaming in my phone's Status

What exactly are you trying to do? Maybe try to restart you G1 or reboot it. I have never had this problem at all.Maybe check with some other users.
You should change the thread title to something more informative pertaining to your proble. Most of the time, the pros on here will pass by a thread just says help because they don't feel like entering a thread just to see if they *can* help at all. Also, it might allow others who have had the same problem and fixed to easily see your problem and come to the rescue.
Back to the problem at hand. Can you use the mobile data for anything? updating weather etc? If you can't then its probably something to do with your APN settings. Who is your carrier? T-Mobile? AT&T? To check what APNs you have now, go to: Settings>Wireless Controls> Mobile Network>APNs
If it is blank, that's why you can't connect, the phone doesn't know where to connect to. Simply type your carrier into google along with G1 APN settings (ie AT&T G1 APN settings) and they should tell you the correct settings to input in order for you to access your mobile network. Good luck.
P.S. Also add more information about what's going on with your phone so that we can figure it out quicker without having to ask you for everything one-by-one. You can tell us the ROM you're using, whether this is a new problem, or something that's never worked, your wireless carrier, your SSN (just kidding), but come on, some background info could make this process infinitely faster...

[Q] Why Do I Have 2 Different IMEI Numbers?

While a new member, I've been following the community a bit and have flashed my Captivate successfully several times.
It started acting weird earlier this week (lagging and shutting itself off) so I decided to re-flash it and re-apply SRE with all the goodies it brings.
Since my last flash, the phone works fine (calls, messaging, and Internet) except for one problem - the Android Market.
I can access the market but am unable to download anything. I've tried many different solutions, ROM's (JF2, JH2, and JH3), 3G/WiFi, internal settings, clearing the Market cache, Dalvik cache, etc., using Market Access and going outside of AT&T's allowed applications, all to no avail. It's the same whether I attempt to download after a fresh flash or after applying SRE. I've also tried Unleash the Beast.
Finally I decided to call AT&T to find out if there was a problem somewhere on their end.
Here's the weird thing:
The IMEI I have on the sticker under my battery is that of a Captivate and matches what they have on record. The representative I spoke to told me that the IMEI I have in my phone's menu is an iPhone IMEI.
With all that being said, I have two questions:
1) How did this happen?
2) How can I fix it?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

also a quick google of the 0049 imei shows that there are several iphones with that imei
The rep who I've been working with is off today but she said she'd call me tomorrow. I'll ask her to update the number and hopefully she can.
Unfortunately, while I'm pretty much a noob to all this, I've found that I still know more than most of the people on the AT&T side and the rep I've been working with is the most knowledgeable of the group.
Did you go from an iphone to the samsung if so, it could be a translation issue on atts side which means the billing system never updated the imei to the switch because it errored out on the billing side happend all the time when i use to be a switch tech for att simple to fix just need to file a ticket with a certain department but can be a pain if the rep is new.

I thought the phone read its IMEI number from its own hardware. This thread implies that something on the network is telling the phone what its IMEI Number should be.
I know there are a lot of Ebay phones with bogus stickers - the stickers have one SN/EMEI number, but the phone internally says another.
Where did you get your phone?
I've never owned an iPhone and I purchased the Captivate from a corporate store, not from an authorized reseller or ebay.
wait cant this be useful if we can change the imei to a vibrant one we can get money off of data or would most of you feel bad for doing that (one good thing about that though for 10 dollars we get unlimited data)

You gotta pay to play. If you don't want to pay smartphone fees, don't get a smartphone. I'm sure we'd all like a break on price, but when it comes down to it, we can't get one, so we make do.
And unless the modmyi forum was wrong, that's illegal.

actually i was just looking at the library of congress's recent ruling on the DMCA and their new excemptions and read this
"
(3) Computer programs, in the form of firmware or software, that enable used wireless telephone handsets to connect to a wireless telecommunications network, when circumvention is initiated by the owner of the copy of the computer program solely in order to connect to a wireless telecommunications network and access to the network is authorized by the operator of the network.
"
sounds like to me that changing the imei is legal as long as the only reason you are doing it is to connect to a network that you are already authorized to use

You are confusing unlocking with changing your IMEI. It is legal to unlock and hack, it is not legal to change the phone's network id.

I can't point to you an exact law, but cloning phones has been considered fraudulent for years and people have been prosecuted. In changing the IMEI number, you are in essence cloning a phone - it may not exist yet, but it could. So once a new phone is made with the new EMEI number you created, you have created fraud.
After doing some research - this is the section of federal code that is used to prosecute cell phone cloners:
http://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/18/usc_sec_18_00001029----000-.html
U.S. Code: TITLE 18 > PART I > CHAPTER 47 > § 1029
§ 1029. Fraud and related activity in connection with access *devices
You may not get arrested for changing your IMEI (not one person anyway) but at some point the carrier will probably just black list your device or your account.
Changing the IMEI or ESN basically makes your device a counterfeit access device. Some debate that if they own 3 phones they should be able to let them all share one IMEI if only one is active at a time.
Personally, I can see no valid reason to change your IMEI - swapping sim cards is easy enough.

Do you have an exclamation mark next to the signal icon? Try forcing 3G or 2G to see, what happens.
It's been mentioned in a few threads that you could also go in and delete all the other APNs that aren't used (if any exist) and then do a reboot to see if that helps.

NOPE! No go. Same ol' same ol'.
Had a discussion with a law firm in Houston today about a class action suit against Lenovo. Yes, we all know it's Google, but the idea is Lenovo has ears AND a brain, whereas there are no ears at Google and some days, I am not so sure about any brains either.
I'll be posting back with a clean thread as this moves along. Best guess as to number of us who have reported it on the Internet passes 10,000. So do the math, it's a very high percentage of Nexus 6 owners.

Hotspot Mod no root needed. (WIP) 3/4/16

almost ready just have to confirm a few things before i give the instructions
I don't know if OP is returning to this thread, but here is the explanation he posted in the S7 Edge forum:
Just a quick how to on unlocking the Hotspot on any version of tw including our new s7 and s7 edge. Root is Not needed
First you must get your msl
There are numerous ways to get it the best way is call sprint tech support and tell them "band 41 is disabled and you need to enable it. Your friends s5 gets it and he has sprint spark. Mines disabled" "i can tell because the app lte discovery shows it disabled" they will send you to advanced tech support who will give you the msl and walk you through enabling band 41. {just go along with him and say goodbye you got the msl now} or however you can get it
Next type in ##data# (on the phone dialer pad)
Click edit
Type in yoUr MSL
Go to apn settings
Select the first apn EHRPD and go to type
Change it from (default, mms) to (default, mms, dun) no spaces
Click the menu up top right and hit save
{hitting save is mandatory}
Next got to the lte apn
Go to type
And make the same changes also remember HIT SAVE
Now reboot and turn on your Hotspot
Tadaaaa a.
Note Hotspot will not work on airrave. without adding this:
to get it to work on airrave got to the same APN area as above with MSL
click add apn and name it APN2 EVDO_A
next go to APN below name and type n.ispsn
next go down to type and enter default ,mms, dun
next go down to protocol and check ipv6 and ipv4 both do this on the roaming protocol below it also
next go down to bearer and uncheck unspecified and check EVDO_A
last again in the top right corner hit menu save (saving is mandatory) At least this method. But it works flawlessly otherwise. Hopes this helps
Works on All tw roms
Enjoy
if you update your prl or profile youll have to add dun back to the apns it only takes a minute though
profile and prl updates reset the dun setting
enjoy my fellow s7 edge owners
ADDITIONAL EDIT: If you activated your S7 via the Sprint site after you ordered it, your MSL is the "activation code" that they sent you in your activation email. You can find it on the left hand side, next to the photo of the phone. Look for where it says "Activation code: XXXXXX If your device does not activate automatically, you may need this code." That code is your MSL.

Why not just subscribe to the thread?
Depending on your plan, Hotspot is included if you have one of the gig bucket plans. Use to have to do Hotspot tweaks too,
I went from the 1500 unlimited data, to a 3gig plan and Hotspot is included.
My plan with 2 ezpay s7 phones and 3 gigs is much less than I was paying. Plus I never use more than 3 gigs, usually way less with wifi.
If you have your msl, just adding dun to a string in your data settings will work.
Hoping for the best with this. This was as big omission on my part when switching from my CM 12.1 S3 to the S7 today. Really miss that on the go.

Hopefully you have an old sprint phone lying around...
'Switch/activate' the old phone on your gs7 line via mysprint.com,
at completion of process,
You'll get the ACTIVATION(msl) code.
Wait a short time for account to settle (5-30min),
reactivate your gs7 and get the ACTIVATION(msl) code a6 completion of process.

I got mine in 3 minutes via chat when I told them I needed the MSL to reset my GPS.
I got mine via chat. Tell them you don't have LTE. They will walk you through some troubleshooting and it includes giving you your MSL
Struck out again went through 3 diffrent people in chat all they did was ##72786# and reset the phone then said to call tech support. Worst luck trying to get this code

After you enter the change, hit Menu -> Save before going to the next APN.

Seems my recollection is you have to 'dun' a couple spots in the '3282',
Be sure you got 'em all.

Issue wasn't with modification, it was location.
I changed location and peaked at about 60mbps

Activating VoLTE after verizon CDMA shutdown?

Not sure how much help there is for such an old phone but I have a Note 5 (SM-N920V) that I use with Pageplus. I had check and been told by numerous reps and websites that the phone would be fine to use and handled VoLTE. When Verizon shut the towers a few days ago my text and calls went down too. I still have data but that's it. According to Pageplus, they are aware of the issue but have no ETA (keep getting told 24 hours and that was 5 days ago) According to other techs there's a firmware issue but I can't seem to figure out what is needed to fix this. It seems like the phone is capable of VoLTE but it isn't activated and there isn't anywhere to do so. I found someone who was flashing Note 8s with the same issue but they only handle 8 and up so I'm hoping maybe someone here can help. Thanks in advance!
In settings under network configuration.
While this phone supports 4G VoLTE it may not be whitelisted by Verizon. Their side needs to be configured to accept it.

Thank you for getting back to me. How would that be handled? I can't do anything on my end as nothing is there or greyed out. Pageplus tech support is useless and there's no way to get Verizon on the line when you don't have an account with them so I'm not sure how to proceed. I can't afford to replace the phone at this time which is why I'm trying to find a way to get this to work.

I don't know. I have AT&T, they list their white listed devices. Couldn't find Verizon's whitelist.
Sim card may need to be updated and phone's hidden settings reconfigured.
