HTC Clock location help - Hero CDMA Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
My HTC Clock always says current city instead of showing the name of the city
My buddy who also has a hero, his showed the city, and a few days after we flashed fresh1.1 rom his is now doing the same thing.
In the location settings I have everything enabled except GPS andI'm not sure what else it could be.
does any1 have any ideas?
Thanks.

Great Thanks,
I guess it brings back another bug though, if I'm having problems with the other bug is their a way to uninstall it, or do i have to reflash fresh?

You would just have to reflash fresh or do a nandroid restore.

how I fixed this was by simply dragging the clock widget off the screen then when you add it back just choose your city. seems to work ok unless you move around a lot.

actually it has been found that reinstalling the location services doesnot produce the bug again. no one can seem to figure out why this is but hey if it works it works. now do understand that if you do install the location services then it will drain the battery a little faster as it does look for your location periodicaly.

Open Overclocker (WTF >_>)

I find it strange that this App seems to try to open itself upon startup.....even after I have wiped twice switching ROMs. How is it even on there?
|Spike|
Probably stores information somewhere else on the phone than normal. adb shell your phone and look for it manually

Hmm odd.. I wrote that app and I made an activity that starts on startup the normal way... not sure why it would still be there after a wipe... *shrug*
I had a similar issue with another app. No matter how many times I wiped, there it was. I think the Market got "wonky" and was downloading it each time I started up for the first time after a wipe. Almost seemed the market website didn't get notified of the successful download/install and was trying to "finish" the download upon signing back on.
whats the problem? uninstall it if you don't like it. personally, I think its a great application and I use it daily.
What should you keep your settings on with this app, both high and low. Also after applying the numbers do you need to reboot?

Seems like a silly question, but do you use apps on SD card.
One of my favorite features of doing that is that I dont actually have to reinstall after wiping, just redo the simlink
Argh! Stupid browser double posting

That depends on personal preference. I keep mine at 528/528 'cause I like me some speed
EDIT: forgot the second half of your post, you don't need to reboot after applying.
ive never been able to get open over clocker to do ANYTHING, i put values in the box hit apply and nothing happens... reboot... cpu at same speed.... its like the button just does nothing, tried the standalone app and dudecake.9 with it integrated. it hasnt ever caused me any problems and removing it worked fine for me, it just never did much of anything at all for me
are you using the dude's build? he included the app in his builds until this last build

Well I answered it! Haha I might be able to help you out here too.
I recently encountered a problem with Super User not connecting to anything, and what I did was just re-flash the ROM right on top of what was already running. It won't wipe anything, besides a theme, and it also works by re-installing the stock apps. Data is never lost, but sometimes it resolves problems within apps.
What it sounds like is that your IM app isn't connecting to data services. Try all EDGE/3G/WiFi connections. If that's a no go, re-install the app with a re-flash of the ROM. If that STILL doesn't work, wipe and re-flash.
Let me know how that goes :]

Alright, cool. Personally, I would give up on the Stock app and switch to one of the other countless IM apps on the market, because they're constantly updated and quite frequently have more features to offer, but that's just my opinion :].

i like buddymob so far. only really have had it for a few days now since i became more concerned with my default IM app problem. ebuddy looked good but didnt provide a seamless way to use it as a im app that was constantly on and connected via the phone. like no taskbar icon or nothin

You won't be able to get it from the market, but you can unzip any build with it in it and drop the app on your SD card and install with an App manager program.
That's odd, you might want to try re-installing the app then :].

[Q] New market alarm service-why?-I want it gone...SCREENIE INCLUDED

Posted this on another forum and everybody started crying about it being in the wrong section rather than helping...rude.

I think this might be what you are lookig for:http://developer.android.com/reference/android/app/AlarmManager.html
SPECULATION on my part but from what I read looks like that is what it is.
I've checked my services periodically to see if this would ever popup for me, but it never did. :/
I'd say try uninstalling the updated market and wiping the cache/data for it via the applications menu under settings - same menu you went to to take that snap shot.
Well what's the disadvantage? Do you actually notice slowdown, battery draining, etc due to it? If not, why bother about it?

New Android Market V2.2.11

Just an FYI, I installed it and a bunch of stuff I couldn't find in the market before is there. ( I doubt it though )

Let me know what you think, I've had problems, so use at your own risk ( I should have put this earlier, I hope it didn't hurt anyone, as always back up first )
* I have been having wifi issues since this update. When it comes out of sleep the wifi wont connect automatically
might be jumping the gun trying market fix.

Cool.. Just loaded it on vegan beta 5.1. Seems to work just fine. Don't know if I see any more stuff, but never really had a problem finding things with the other ones.
I do notice that the appearance seems crisper. Like maybe they are using a higher quality. Or, maybe not.
Still the same for me. Stars still truncated. Missing apps still missing.
The new apk is about 600 MBA larger than earlier one.
Jim
Just for fun I went ahead and did the market fix again. Didn't need to but I saw the earlier post and was curious. I never could get it to open after the first reboot. Had to reboot again. Then once it started working I have noticed more of the "android.process.acore" errors, and server errors then with the older one. I will be rolling back to a previous version myself since this doesn't seem to really make anything better.
I wonder if there should be an updated GoogleServicesFramework with this?

Kind of wonder that myself. Did you notice any difference in the look? Like a higher res look for the fonts? Or was I just seeing things? That would sort of make sense for the size difference of the file I guess..
And I thought I was doing good. LoL dag nabbit

Works for me
I'm running vegan 5.1 with pershoots latest kernel and here are my findings thus far. I backed up market with titanium and installed the update, immediately opened market. Everything looks to be there, I searched for a few things and installed one or two. I looked for adw and couldn't find it, I did see its themes but not the app. Rebooted, loaded up market no fc's, until I tried to roll back to previous version to look for adw because I am almost certain it was there before. Interestingly I did see appbrain which I've never been able to get before. Never tried market fix, and did not notice any image improvement. Anyone know for certain what to look for to see if it actually improves previous market? I'm going to try and fix my market now and will report back if anyone's interested.
I installed via the apk (there is also an update.zip available) and all working well. No reboot or clearing Google Services Framework required.
I had previously preformed the well documented market fixes but could never quite get the entire market. Everything appears to show up now.
I'm not sure it is complete I can't find a few things. But then again I found a bunch of things I couldn't find before either. Catch 22 yet again.
anyone else having a problem with 'Media Volume' not working after this update? The rocker doesn't work, I tried to go in the settings (I had to unmute and turn the system sound back up - no dice), I even tried to play a video and turn up the sound using the software controls within that program....nothing works.
How do I revert back? Where is the old .apk located?
....also had to turn my wi-fi on with each reboot, which is new.
Running Vegan5.1
I think it would be most helpful if you guys actually listed the names of the titles of the apps that you either DO or DO NOT see once you have tried this. Just might help in the troubleshooting aspect. For what its worth.
ckelly,
search xda for market or vending.apk and you will find many versions to play with
Volume corrected on reboot #2.
Wi-Fi still needs to be manually connected..
@sixvolt
Since this appears to not improve things, you must have had even less apps show up than we did and this update brought you to par with the rest of us. Everything is relative

[Q] Go Launcher EX problem

I keep on changing launchers on my N1, recently found Go Launcher Ex and installed it. It's impressing me except one weird problem that whenever I select Settings>Preferences it' shows the preference screen for about half a second and disappears and I am back to home screen. Means I can't change any launcher settings.
I googled a lot but can't see anyone else having any such issue. Please help.
Thanks.

Well, you do have very little internal space. That normally causes me problems (with other applications)
I don't know if it could affect your launcher but try clearing up some room. I don't have the issue either but I'm on GB CM7. Even if you have time, try backing up your current rom/settings and then start fresh, see if that helps!
You can contast GO DEV Team OR message me!
The team Email is:[email protected]!
Guys, sorry for the very late reply, the problem was fixed after I did a factory reset
Thanks everyone!
I'm also facing the same problem as the OP is facing, I have Spice MI-410, So as it is posted I think Factory Reset is the only solution, too bad
