mssmison's Eclair V8 April 7th - Touch CDMA Android Development

I've done everything I can to audio. I'm sorry guys but I can't figure out bluetooth audio. Someone start a bounty and we'll see if we can get DZO to fix it I'm going to be slowing down on releases for a while, I'll still help people out, but don't expect much new from me for a while. If you're working on a build and have a question pm me and I'll help you out
V8
We're going QVGA only on this one.
Now based on my own source tree build.
Updated messaging app, check settings within app to change settings, now full screen.
Full screen AOSP apps.
Updated Helix Launcher, (app drawer is 5x5 and transparent)
New 'Car Home' Launcher from the droid 2.1 update. Nicer square launcher. much more car friendly I think.
Optimize on first boot. It will take a little longer..
Spare Parts now in Settings
No more swap or compache
Instructions;
I recommend you wipe, it may work if you don't but you may have issues
Boot, when launcher first opens, do menu ->confirgure to set to full screen.
The notifications pull down is accessible by doing menu->notifications while on the launcher.
Known Issues
Possible landscape issues with Launcher
No BT audio
No camera
V7 Changes;
- Optimize on first boot. It will take a little longer..
- Random Boot animation, Create a folder on your sdcard called bootanimation and put them in there (get some from here; http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=624480)- you MUST remove the spaces in the names.
- minor cleanups to fs.
- removed corpcal, (it really slows things down) install via update file
- Removed Bruts maps, latest maps is way better,
- Fixed VogueParts issue for converting to hvga
- Proper Vending.apk for all res (thanks to polyrhythmic)
- Removed AlarmClock.apk (donut) and replaced with Vogueified (new word) DeskClock
- updated news and weather widget to work with deskclock
- Adjusted prop for market.
- Added Nav Launcher
- Added Dialer One. More like htc dialer, auto contacts lookup etc.
- Some more speed tweaks
PREVIOUS CHANGES;
V .6a
Changes.
Nothing changed with the system, only the config app.
Vogue Parts app changes;
- Removed the swappiness option for compache, (it wasn;t working properly) I set swappiness to be static at 60
-Changed the way optional apps are installed (now installed to /data/app for update purposes)
What's not working?
Bluetooth audio, (regular bluetooth connections work fine, just not audio)
Camera, (it's on the list I promise)
Recommended paritions on sd card
2 ext2 paritions, 1 linux swap parition

mssmison,
Glad you are back with your builds!
Questions...
Q-1: You mentioned "Flash".Does this mean this won't run on an SD card?
Q-2: You mentioned this is a "320x480 only right now".
So, this won't work on my Vogue?
Thank you!

You can use 320x480 on the Vogue. Hero builds use 320x480 and they look great

Not sure about haret. 320 x 480 just means you need to flash the 320 x 480 nbh for it to work.
mssmison - Do you got any screenies? Did you get the nexus launcher in this build?

I'm getting launcher force closes and restarts but not to the boot screen just the splash screen. I've never experienced this on any build. I did a fresh install and flashed the nbh that was included. It was real laggy but after a couple restarts and waits on launcher force closes it did speed up a bit.

hmmm, try another fresh erase and install, after setup wizard let it sit till it's fully loaded before you do anything.

Great work!
Sorry if Kaiser folk annoy you but was wondering if anything was done to the .nbh (changing the size of system/data partitions, etc.) to make this work on the vogue? I'd like to try it on my kaiser but was wondering if I need to tweak anything before i flash.
Don't worry, I don't plan to change a couple things and release it as my own
If there is something to change in the nbh I might upload a couple for Kaiser users with your permission.

Drewden - How's this work for you? how's the speed for you compare to the original eclair build? I couldn't get this build working quite right but I'm going to attempt it again later today. The first norootfs build worked pretty good for me and was pretty fast for an eclair build.

I tried to add my own apps into the system image but I am getting an issue with the installation of the .tar file. Its telling me I don't have enough space... Should I make a bigger partition on my sd card for the system image?

I'm in the same boat. version 1 + the update worked awesome. it was fast and never really gave any problems beside the hw3d stuff not working properly.
This build is pretty slow, and the launcher is constantly force closing or hanging the phone when trying to open the launcher.
I did get the launcher to open once, and it looked sweet. if this build could get tweaked to run as fast as the first build and be more stable it would great.
Lots of potential here, but for now i'm going back to 1.0 as the os is more stable.

My bad wrong thread

I got this one running pretty alright, I am using Home++ app so no FC issue for me. It's faster and much stable compared to 1.0, Dialer/Phone app is tad bit faster. Compcache/Swap setting is cool.
But I am use to 240 build, so I am not getting any love. I am looking forward for QVGA build that Craig talked about...
EDIT: It gets even more responsive when Compcache is reduced to 16 (did after drewden said). Even dialer comes in less than a second. Now just want 240 version...

It's running pretty well for eclair. it has its moments but I set the homescreen to stay in memory and enabled compcache @ 16 meg. The launcher fc's stopped after that. I'm not too sure on the compcache/swap thing so if somebody could fill me in that'd be great, as id like to know the optimal setting.

Thanks - changed description to "Themed dialer" instead of "Hero dialer".
great job!!
Nice!
Thanks Plemen. Nice, clean setup. Its great to go back to native res for a bit.
I like the theme, especially the app slider. I do have two suggestions though. One is doing something to blend the different color box around the time better, it looks like an awkward block. Then also, change the color of the date on the top when you pull down the notification shade. Its currently black on black.

Good suggestions - both are high on the list. I almost didn't release because of the clock but I wanted to have a native Res donut with themed dialer out there... I should have an update in a few days.
plemen, I added your ROM to my theme thread. 3rd post will be the running list. Hope we can keep them coming. I can help you with the notification text color if you want. Or you can grab the services.jar from mine which is already hex edited for white text.
what should my lcd density be set to?
Edit: also, in spare parts when I set the end keys function to"home then sleep" it doesn't work. anyway to fix that?
DOUBLE Edit: turns out it does work, just takes a whole 7 seconds to do so.

lcd.density=120 works well. To be honest I've left this out while testing and the default looks pretty good too.
The new button mapping is long-hold camera to return home. Leave the end key at default.
thanks for the help.

The time looks a lot better now. I really like this build, its my new everyday one. The one complaint I still have is the date is impossible to read when the notification shade is pulled down.
EDIT: attempting now to make it work with mssmision's method.

Fixed the date - keep the input coming.
I was using mssmision's method for a while - had some mysterious reboots using that and will have to test more - now I'm back to sqsh. If anyone is interested in an .ext2 file let me know. You can use ext2 instead of the sqsh if you want to modify any system files while the phone is live.
plemen, this is awesome... works great with mssmison's new partitioning technique, runs fast, looks fantastic. Great work on this build. It's not my everyday build... till Bell gets the Samsung Galaxy next month

Is the new download with the fixed date compatible with the mssmision method? I want to use that and yours. Have had no restarts and it definitely runs faster.

Installation was easy. Will try this build on a different SD card so my current perfect working version will stay .. except GPS not working.
Things i have found:
1) Flip of screen not correct (on Kaiser) When you want use Keyboard the screen is up side down..haha
- After Reboot it seems that is working... so the up side down problem is solved. Only when you close the phone it turns not to the potrait screen
2) GPS not working, after first creation of Data. But i use the Fat32/EXT2/EXT2 setup.
3) When phone is in standby (screen is off) he has problems to wake up when you press power. Press sometimes and the screen come up.
Have test it also with mddi.width=320 mddi.height=480 lcd.density=160 with no problem.
excellent build, it works without any errors.
Some observations + lock screen doesn't work,.is it supposed to be statIc or can I click on icons to unlock?
Thanks,
sshark

I wonder if the change in functionality for you was caused by a change in basefiles? The only thing that will enable GPS for all builds is some new developments in rootfs by some of the talented devs on this board.

Yes the themes are compatible - you should be able to push them on the image without any issues. My port is of 2.2.1 - I had to add the navigation myself; of course, the day after I release my port enomther releases a new one with navigation included...
I'll look at porting the latest...

[Theme] CM-Hero 4.2.12.2 [MetaMorph.apk]

Hello everyone,
Back in the CM-4.0.2 days, I briefly used the HTC Hero 1.5.0 theme from tehseano.
I have now taken bits and pieces of it, and updated it for CM-4.2.12.2.
Please note that this replaces the classes.dex file in services.jar. This theme may cause problems with any other version of CM, and may not work with any other ROM. If in doubt DO NOT apply the services.jar subtheme.
If you would like the Power Control Widget theme in the screenshots, it is located here.

Thanks to tehseano for the initial theme.
EDIT:
I forgot to make it clear that this theme can only be applied with MetaMorph.apk
Edit: Increased version for 4.2.12.2
In the future, themed music widget, themed calendar widget, and some fixed icons are coming. Please bear with me, it is near the end of the semester, and I am working full time, and going to school full time.
4.2.11.1 has re-vamped dialer icons.
The Power Control widget theme is now included.
Music Widget is now included also.
I have not forgotten about those that want a Dwang's ROM port, I am looking into it.
I am also going to work on a version to be flashed over Stericson's Lock.
Hopefully the next release will also include themed music/calendar/search widgets.
Sorry about the gap in updates... The holidays are a hectic time.
Dang it.
Apparently 4.2.6 made some changes to the Phone.apk images... it will look a little off until I can rework the images. You could just skip that sub-theme until then.
m0zes,
are the highlights green or orange selecting icons or in search and browser?
i love the power widget, hope that you addressed music and search widget accordingly.

It sounds as if you did not apply the services.jar sub-theme. I probably should have mentioned this earlier, but the reason I have to use that piece is because those colors (for date and time) are hardcoded in the classes.dex file. I wish there were a better work around, but this is the best I can do for the moment.

Hilights are supposed to be green with this theme.
I will fix the music widget in my next release, and update a couple of the browser icons. (Browser highlights correctly, but the colors are off on two of the icons)

I will fix the music widget in my next release, and update a couple of the browser icons. (Browser highlights correctly, but the colors are off on two of the icons)

Thank You And Keep Up The Great Work

That is the "Power Control Widget" (Part of Donut, themed with this.)
Sorry I don't have an update for 4.2.7.1 yet, guys. Full time work and School hasn't left me with much time as finals are coming up. I am going to try and have an update this weekend.
I'll also look into posting a theme for Dwang's ROM.
Great work, it makes me love my G1 all the more.
Even with the small issues with clock and dialer, this is a fantastic Morph!
School > Making our G1's pretty. Finals week incoming.
Edit:Failed at reading whole thread first.
4.2.7.1 is posted. I am hard at work attempting to theme the music/search/calendar widgets and fixing a couple of images that aren't of the quality I would like.
I have fixed the dialer bug in this release.
Thanks for the update. I've been patiently waiting on it....
ive never used metamorph before but is it supposed to take forever on "framework"
it was taking to long and it kinda of killed home to the point where I had to unlock my sim card.So i exited out of the program and everything seems to be running fine except all my widgets were not loaded.
should I try again and let it finish?

framework-res should take 30-45 seconds (maybe more with the latest MetaMorph update)
Widgets are notorious for needing to be re-added after theming. You should delete them and re-add them.
I am also replacing a decent number of icons in the Home screen, so Home will generally need to be reloaded afterward.
Not to mention the fact that any changes to framework-res should be followed by a reboot .

yea I ended up doing that
I "morphed" framework and the other last one separate and rebooted.I dont know what it does but everything is working so Im happy.
I was looking for a hero theme for the longest on 4.2.7.1 so thanks
Everything worked out fine with the install. I started to leave my job last night and turned on my bluetooth headset. It would not connect at all. I was thinking to myself, "This guy is taken this hero s*** too far. No working bluetooth!!!" I just rebooted my phone and the bt connected again, LOL! Other then that BT prob, everything is working just fine. Thanks again for your work.

Heheh, maybe I could try that for the next version
I may be able to get it to nuke a driver somewhere...
I have a question, can I delete the files the theme creates?
I have 700 images now on my phone and going into gallery to look at my pics and wallpapers is like going through a jungle.
@m0zes:
You should put a .nomedia file in your morphs, that would solve the issue with the images showing up in the gallery.
You can take the file from other morphs cause it's universal and contains no data.

Summary:
A Highly optimized Eclair providing an accelerated experience. Heavily themed for your viewing pleasure .
I've spent the last month tweaking and making things *faster* and although my todo list is still large for this build I didn't want to delay this any further.
The Cream Filling:
Some of the features in RLS 1 (06-17-2010) include:
More performance enhancements and tweaks.
Added HUGE APN list!
Bluetooth audio fixed (thanks kallt_kaffe)
Updated LauncherPro
Option to choose the number of icons per row in both portrait and landscape mode within launcher
Added backgrounds to Wallpaper gallery
New app drawer opening speed option: Here you can tweak the speed of the opening/closing effect for the app drawer. Zero is the slowest, 10 makes it appear/disappear instantly. (Advanced settings)
Selectable backgrounds for shortcut dock
New sense like home screen indicator
15 shortcuts available in dock now. Swipe the dock to the left (down in landscape) to reveal 5 additional shortcut spaces. Now swipe it again for 5 more!
Added native Alarm Clock (by request from a few users)
Full Changelog / feature list can be found at bottom of this post.
What doesn't work
Camera
Known Issues
Voice Search wait/force close messages on start. As this is a pre-release beta, I am working on fixing this issue.
Installation:
*** On first boot a lot of optimizations are running. For the best experience, it is advised to wait 10 - 15 mins after you see the initial Android setup screen and during the first google syncronization process. After which the speed dramatically improves. You should see an even greater performance jump after first reboot. ***

Congrats man!!! Looks awesome. I cant wait to get my new device going to try this out. Great work once again
first to install so far very nice once i find an issue i will report
Edit
I have noticed a few things.
1. there are graphic issues with some of the overlays (in other words some items are cut off) I am trying to find where i saw that at
2. no facebook intergration
3. Google voice does not work
4. when calls come in they will vibrate but not play the tone you have set or show picture you have set for them
5. using the default messaging app it does not pull your contact names via letters you have to type out their numbers for it to find the person.
Can't download
Anyone else having issues downloading? Can't get to site from link.
Ok, after about 10 trys it is downloading. Can't wait.
THANKS Myn!
Has anyone using this build used in the past Incubus's Super Eclair Lite Build and can compare the two (performance wise or other differences)?
EDIT: Will this build fit entirely on NAND and is it smaller or bigger then the Super Eclair Lite Build.
no offense to Incubus but this build blows his out of the water. So smooth even when it was not over clocked. with the over-clock it is even faster. Incubus I enjoy your hard work so dont let this discourage you in continuing your hard work.
i was thinking that it was time that best one moder finally come to eclair
Thank you, i'll test it asap

wow myn this by far the sexiest build i have seen!
can wait to try it out!!
this needs the eclair nbh right?
hey, myn - i assume we still have exchange mail, how about contacts and calendar? those have been keeping me on tattoo atm... some of the other eclair builds have synced contacts with exchange, so i'm hoping...?
looking forward to running it either way, nice work.
i just got a CRC error when extracting the 320x480nand version
i'm going to redownload to see if it was just a corrupt download
edit: a second download of the zip produced the same CRC error
anyone else seeing the same error?
Thanks for the new build....very cool
But i can not start wifi with my polaris and sdcard nomorootfs (use your zimage you suggest)
Any idea or fix
Thanks for answers...with kind regards...Alex
3G / WiFi not working
Hi myn,
Just installed it on my Kaiser, and can't access 3G and WiFi. Do they work for anybody else? (the Mobile Networks check is grey, and if I push it, it thinks for a while and still remains grey).
Any help, anybody? My network is Vodafone Romania.
I have also tried Incubus's eclair, your Warm Donut, and now this, with the haret from your original package.
Thanks,
Ovi

240 on SD using 29-5 zImage, sys and data on Ext2, is running smooth as silk. Looking forward to running this through the gauntlet on it's way to becoming my primary build.
As usual, great work Myn. Thanks!
lol i'm just talking about the setup at the beginning but its scary fast compared to the other builds I've used. Waited about 30 minutes before using and the performance is simply a-mazing. Everything was installed on NAND, and there is 100mb free for apps.
Will let post again after I have filled up the phone again or encounter an error.
Thanks so much for the build Myn!

Thoughtlesskyle's Not So Super Froyo [RLS 17][10/20/2010] Kid Tested Mother Approved!

so here we go 17 or as a i like to call it not so super froyo
Original
- Based off Dzo's 10/1 fresh froyo release
- stock theme with the andro green elements thrown in
- newest google apps except maps which can be downloaded from the market
- gmail, and voice search are both now in data which will make for an easy uninstall if they ever need to be updated again
- google maps {brut} is also in data for easy removal
- faux flip clock
- default wallpaper from Myns Warm Builds
- live wallpapers and everything related to them are removed along with the latinIME tutorial to free up some space
- Adwlaucher is present instead of launcher2 (also stored in data for easy replacement with the launcher of your choice)
- l1q1d's shut down script
- android scribble boot animation
- cyanogenmod wallpaper gallery
- put original vending.apk back in to attempt to cure some market hang
- doesnt seem to have the phone call hang issue
- zip align on first boot so give it 5 minutes before use
10/10/2010 update
- removed wirelesstether.apk (can be downloaded from the market) to free even more space since the vogue doesn't use it
- also deleted Quicksearchbox.apk since there is no need for it as there is the themed search box both do the same thing so their is no need to use double the space
- Changed network connection icons so that 2G, G, 3G, and H all have the same look and match the theme
- added new roaming icons and there was a graphical hiccup when it went to roaming
- added transparent Youtube widget
10/15 update
-Finally Have A Wallpaper Gallery of my own Thanks to LostEden over in the G1 Forums
-added The Latest Gmail app instead of needing to be updated from the market
-Added Wireless tether back in to the /system by popular demand
-Added Transparent Calendar widget now all of the widgets except the market are themed
-added newest Version of Car Home
-Removed Protips.apk (the tips to using android widget), it was just a waste of space
- changed the boot animation from the android scribble to one that is easier to tell if its still loading (its a secret to everyone)
-Instead of having a White and Black Full build to download there will now be just the black with an update.tar for the white this is just simply for space savings on the hosting site
10/17
-added back the old vending.apk so all apps show in the market
-themed the dialer
RLS 17 10/20
-now based off the 16-10-2010 fresh froyo from n2rjt
-NEW battery indicator now shows a 1% interval for charging thanks Vellowax
- i will post a new white status bar theme when i get some free time, the current one will work but you will lose the battery %
i think that's about it if there is anything else i will update it, give it a whirl
again all credit goes to the real devs im just a guy who can read and work 7zip
few personal thank you's
- first Jeff (incubus) i cant thank you enough and you are always helpful and without your themeing guide and advice i would be nowhere
- and also all the Dev's who have invested so much time making android work and keeping me happy with my vogue till i got my hero
- cnigro1279 for testing the black theme after i fixed the hang issue
- -Arturo- for finding some graphical hiccups and being an early adopter
- and for everyone who has given me feedback and used my build in general, after being on here and always taking from the community its nice to give something back.
thanks for trying it out in advance
Known Issues:
- on first boot ADW will give problem loading widgets errors, just simply delete them and put whatever widgets you would like they will all work
- usb doesn't always show disconnected from the computer when unplugged (common in other AOSP builds i have used too)
Screenies are fun

nope it is based off DZO's 10/1 release of fresh froyo
most awesome note i can say is rouge tools works again
hmm i like the thought process behind this build... might give it a try if i hold out a bit longer on the evo. sounds like you're going for rolling back to some more stability and user control. can't argue with that, esp if some of the devs are focusing elsewhere now.
i really like the user having the option to customize their build, that's why i keep alot of stuff in data. I always liked adw launcher a little better than launcher pro's free version just because launcher pro free is pretty barebones compared to its full version.
so i leave stuff in data so its easy to uninstall so its not taking up space if the user has no intent on ever using it
what kernel do you recommend using?
i have been using l1q1ds off the old kernel branch but its built off fresh froyo so whatever has been working for you in the past should work fine now
Making Calls
Hi , I have just installed your "not so froyo" , its nice and fast , but seems a bit laggy when I use wireless for downloads in market app. When I end a call the android startup gif comes up as if its logging in again , can u please assist me.
BUILD REALLY AWESOME!!!
Do you have any task managers on your phone? I haven't been able to test any of this stuff since my touch is not active

My experience... using a test phone for this build right now, my main is running Donut 1.6
Yea, I don't have ability to make calls on that one, so can't test the calling bug
everything else seems smooth & functional though!
hey just giving you guys an update i got to work on it a little last night i will try to get it working today, apparently .tar files like to be a little temperamental so i had a whole load of issues last night trying to fix it
edit: appears it was the services.jar causing the problem still trying to fix the problem
flashed last night- so far so good. seems stable and quick.
one issue- voice commands functions about 50% of the time.
keep it up
thanks
